Supernatural - Season 8 - Jensen to direct premiere

18 May 2012

"We don't get a very long break -- it's about two and a half months," Ackles explained. "I actually have to go back early because I'm going to direct the first episode [of Supernatural]. My break is even a littler shorter, but we try to make the most of it. It's not optimal, but as I always say, it's a good problem to have!"

  1. Aw, yay! I was wondering if he was going to direct again, and it's the 150th episode at that!

And awww at him and Danneel going to Europe.

  2. That's AWESOME! But I hope it doesn't mean less Dean in the premiere! Congratulations, Jensen! You're gonna be great! Again;)

  3. Wow. Good for him, good for us!

  4. I think that, as in previous seasons, he's gonna direct the first production episode, but not the first one that airs.

  5. Congrats, Jensen! The season premiere will be just great and definitely something we will be looking forward to after a very long summer wait! I know the boys vacation will be cut short, but that is good for us fans! I am so very happy for him-the chance to direct once again must be such a thrill!

  6. That is awesome can't wait to see it.

  7. That's good that he gets to direct again.  I'm really hoping the episode is more like "Weekend at Bobby's" than "The Girl Next Door."  I really didn't like "The Girl Next Door" and I didn't agree with Jensen's take on the Amy's death.  He said it was suppose to be a mercy killing, but I found it to be a cold-blooded killing.  I didn't like that.  But there was so much in the episode, I don't think it was Jensen's fault the episode didn't work out that well. (And it was so disappointing that the episode was suppose to be Sam-centric and we didn't have any Sam insight.)

Good luck to him!  And it sucks that he doesn't get much of a summer.  I know how that is!  I only have two weeks left of a break before summer classes begin, but I don't have to work fourteen-hour days! Hahah!! I hope he gets to spend plenty of time resting with his family. He's got a big episode to direct!! The 150th episode filmed!!!!

  10. That's what I think also. :) It'll be the first ep filmed, but not necessarily the season premiere. I think he's a great director, but they'd probably want a seasoned director to handle the premiere considering it's their first ep on Wednesday and after the premiere of a brand new show that will probably get a pretty decent audience. But hey, some fans may watch simply because Jensen directs, so who knows? Either way, I'm totally excited by all the changes for season 8 and am actually looking forward to next year with a lot of high hopes!

  11.  *He said it was suppose to be a mercy killing*

In what reality was what Dean did to Amy a MERCY killing?  That was a murder, point blank and period.

  12. I agree with both of you in objecting to JA's  calling killing Amy "a mercy killing" - in Dean's mind it may have necessary but it was definitely not mercy, especially when he knew Amy had a child.

  13. What I don't get is the hypocrisy of the showrunners Since Dean killed Amy because as he told Sam she was a monster who needed to be put down and she couldn't be trusted.

So if Amy killing  4 people to save her kid is Deans description of a monster that needs to be put down. That she can't be trusted. Then why doesn't Deans description of a monster fit  Castiel?

Who killed as many people as Amy did before he ingested a single soul  and not that ingesting the souls takes away from Castiels being responsible for  the thousands of humans and Angels that he murdered. Castiel committed mass murder took down Sams wall intentionally  just to stop Dean and is responsible for Bobbys death too  How is he not a monster going by Dean description?

  15. I know that it's impossible, but how cool would it be if the Winchesters were to show up in TVD, in mystic falls as supernatural hunters. :D :D :D

  16. Sure, he is. But I have watched only 6 episodes, I think I maybe able to answer ur question properly after watching the entire season.

  17. They'll most likely be filming out of order again, so he wont direct the premier but say episode 3 or 4.

I'm really excited that he's directing another episode! I loved "Weekend at Bobby's" and I really liked "The Girl Next Door" too. But I think it'll be like the last few years too where he directs the first episode shot but not the premiere episode, but that would be really cool too =]

  19. I think we're suppose to believe that Castiel gets a pass because he started out with "good intentions."  That's why Sam isn't upset with Castiel.  Because Sam has messed up because of good intentions. Castiel had good intentions while Amy is a monster who would only ever be a monster.  Castiel might not kill again while Amy would most definitely kill again. See the difference? Castiel gets a pass, because he isn't a monster monster. The show has gone back to if it's a monster, it is evil. Dean hasn't forgiven Castiel, but he still wants to Castiel to fix everything and work with him.Honestly, I don't know what we're suppose to make of Castiel. I have no idea and the Amy storyline complicates everything. While Castiel is one of my favorite characters, I can't ignore what he has done or just get over it like nothing happened.  I don't understand the show take on the grey area anymore. Amy is suppose to die, but Castiel and Meg are still trustworthy and the Winchesters can work with them? We're suppose to believe it's balance because Castiel took on Sam's Hell.  However, they kept it in the background and only showed it on random small occasions.  Sam never slowed down, was truly impaired, or in real danger because of it.  The only episodes that make it seem bad was "Hello Cruel World" and "Repo Man."  But Sam never discussed it or  what Hell was like.  Then finally in the episode of "The Born-Again Identity" Sam was still helping others out.  No real danger. They could have created some real danger.  However, they didn't.  They kept Sam's Hell in the background which in turn doesn't make Castiel's redemption look like help repay for some of the evils done. The writers dug a hole with both Amy and Castiel and the characters look bad because of it.  If they were going to make Castiel evil, then they needed to take the time to address it and deal with it. All those episodes and problems dealing with Amy should have been episodes with Sam and Dean dealing with Castiel.  They could of had all that drama over Castiel just as easily.

if jensen direct the first episode the opening scene has to be SAM where he will go, (?????) who call for help  ,(?????) ..PERIOD ..how the writer began to develop his story line that will make sense  for us the fans to believe & be agree with it is not a easy task, because the brothers are in different dimension in dean case he got a ambivalent, sidekick, crazy, wing man castiel for H.E.L.P  (?????????) and surrounded by unknown monsters thats is more dangerous and creapy that sam ,dean is in live or death situation fr sam the only know enemy is crowley for the moment be ok i forgot the alpha vampire the worth case scenario for me D.E.A.N
