Zap2it has confirmed that The CW has finally given "Supernatural" cast and crew the official word that the show has been renewed for Season 8 -- and it's a good thing, too, because we're hearing that Season 7 will end with an impressive cliffhanger.
Press release to hopefully follow soon!#supernatural season 8!!It's official.Announcement will be released shortly but it's happening

Flailing!
ReplyDeleteI read also Vampire Diaries (obviously), Gossip Girl & 90210
ReplyDeleteSO MANY FEELINGS!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYea !!! And hopefully NO MORE Castiel but much more Bobby !!
ReplyDeleteHow Dare you! I tried to make a much different comment before, but unfortunately the site didn't let me publish it because it had so many f****** words in it that it was classed as too abused! But seriously man! Shut up!
DeleteOMG YAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay FINALLY
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
ReplyDeleteNot surprised. Crappy CW ratings + supportive CW president = easy renewal.
ReplyDeletedid he delete the tweet?
ReplyDeletelooks like
ReplyDeleteShocked!Didn't see that coming 15 episodes ago...
ReplyDeleteNO!? Really!? I was not expecting that at all....
ReplyDeleteAs always: YAY!!!!
I mean sure it's not the brilliant show it used to be but it's still SPN....
OMFG AAAAAAAAAAAAH AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEE but not surprise. =DDDDD
ReplyDeleteWhoa thats weird.lol
ReplyDeleteIm going to check TVbythenumbers later.
Everything is a sucess on CW enough to stay another season, expect mmmmmmm riiiinggggggerr mmmm ringeeeeer. Ringer!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't really that worried this year, but I'm so happy it's official:)
ReplyDeleteYAY for Season 8!
but now this tweet is gone? Did he jump the gun? or is someone trolling?
ReplyDeleteTHEY BETTER RENEW NIKITA NOW
ReplyDeleteSweet merciful freakin' awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI think he probably talked about it too soon, most likely.
ReplyDeleteRinger, Nikita, and Secret Circle could all easily be on the chopping block.
ReplyDeleteYEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTVD and 90210 I suspect too. I'd be surprised if anything else is though.
ReplyDeleteMyself, I am glad but also want the show to end. I want it to end because it can't go on forever and they need to wrap things up and have a proper series finale. I partly want it to continue because it's such a great show.
ReplyDeletehappy brithday sam
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOO NOT NIKITA!
ReplyDeleteI like Nikita too but it won't be an easy renewal.
ReplyDeleteIt's not what it used to be (seasons 1-3 maybe 4 and 5) but it's a great show on television nonetheless. In a sea of literal crap shows, Supernatural is a something different. Not surprised it was renewed although I'm super not happy that these brilliant untapped actors must remain on SPN longer. Jared and Jensen both are A-list movie stars waiting to happen.
ReplyDeleteSomeone else connected with the show Tweeted about the renewal!
ReplyDeletecan you post links please?
ReplyDeleteHere it is: https://twitter.com/#!/taraslarsen/status/198121581053095936
ReplyDeleteRenewed on Sammy's birthday? What a present!
ReplyDeleteDay after Sam's birthday!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!
ReplyDeleteha! I'm a day behind really gotta change the date on my computer
ReplyDeletecheers
ReplyDeleteYAY! I had a feeling today was going to be the day to receive this awesome news! I am sure season 8 will bring us plenty of surprises!
ReplyDeleteWell Tara Larsen also tweeted it's official YAY! Made my night. :D
ReplyDeleteThe Tweet is not on Twitter. So we have probably been fooled again.
ReplyDeleteTwo people connected to the show have Tweeted about it. It's official - I'm guessing the CW wants to announce it themselves.
ReplyDeletezap2it have announced it so must be true
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing on Aronauer's page about Supernatural being renewed.
ReplyDeletethe best song for this announcement celebration (everybody has fun tonight) by wang chung or celebration by kool and the gang.
ReplyDeleteThere was on earlier this year on Jim Michael's. People are hacking and posting. I can't find anything anywhere on there, but everyone dealing with the show thinks there will be.
ReplyDeleteIn honor of Sam's birthday, the show has been renewed. How great is that?!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunatelly you're right. I'm not gonna cry over TSC (because I don't watch that one) but I do think that Nikita and Ringer are quite good shows and deserve to at least wrap up their stories so that they are in peril is quite saddening....
ReplyDeletehttp://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/supernatural-season-8-officially-picked-up-by-the-cw-for-fall-2012.html
ReplyDeleteThis tweet has been deleted, but here's hoping it is true.
ReplyDeleteThat link has also been taken down, :(( but someone on another board saw this renewal announcement, too. Carina (Zap2it) is also reporting SPN's renewal but doesn't list the source. Chances are good that we could get an Official Statement From The CW announcing all the early renewals shortly.
ReplyDeleteTHIS!!! Amen!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so great! I`m so happy right now! ;)
ReplyDeletegreat news!
ReplyDeleteSomething is wrong... The tweet don't exist anymore. And I don't see anything on Zap2it about it
ReplyDeleteOh totally :) I think that at this point SPN will be renewed until either the ratings completely go down below the 1 mil or one or both of the Js don't want to sign for S9 onwards. Last I heard they had signed for S7-S8.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised...oddly enough SPN has been on my 'safe' list for a few years...that is how sure I was that it would be renewed :P I wasn't worried about it.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised at all but really glad we get another season!!! What am i going to do when it's over?
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!! I'm so so happy that S8 would be....Yayyy all SPN fans
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Hopefully Supernatural will find it's way back to being a good show!
ReplyDeleteI am so so so so happy right now it's unreal! Best show on television! So different and has some of the best actors on TV right now! Best guest stars and amazing plots! I want this show to carry on forever! My request! More CASTIEL and more BOBBY! Aaarrhhhmmmmuyyygoooddddd!!!
ReplyDeletesorry to burst your bubble but cas will be in season 8 SUCK IT XD
ReplyDeleteYeah that's what I said! Lol I want more castiel and bobby! So yeah totally agree with ya there buddy;)
Deletei just read the same thing that both tweets got deleted wtf is going on im confused :/
ReplyDeleteabout time we heard about our renewal :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's been renewed. They were probably told to remove the tweets to wait for the official confirmation that came out later.
ReplyDeleteNow that Ausiello has confirmed it, I believe it! Congrats to the boys, as well as all the cast, crew, writers, and producers... I never really doubted it, but it's great to hear it anyway! Here's hoping they can get back to what made the show great in the first place, even if I'll always be a loyal viewer. Seasons 6 and 7 have been rough!
ReplyDeleteGreat news, and about freakin' time.
ReplyDeleteI hope the fans will tune in for the last episodes though. These last few years, the season finales' ratings have always been disappointing.
Yeah, I agree spread the word people this show needs more viewers again! To carry on to even a 9th season!!! Tune in for the final episodes guys! Back up J2!!!
DeleteThank frigging God :)
ReplyDeleteNOW I can believe it... http://tvline.com/2012/05/03/cw-renews-supernatural-vampire-diaries-90210/
ReplyDeleteWe're official!
ReplyDeletehttp://tvline.com/2012/05/03/cw-renews-supernatural-vampire-diaries-90210/
That's not official and considering his last hyped return created its lowest ratings I would think his appeal is not captivating enough anymore for keeping viewers LOL !!
ReplyDeleteAgreed no Castiel!
ReplyDeleteGo away! U no NOTHING you w***k**!!! castiel is an amazing actor and brings so much to this show! Half of the viewers are F***k*** castiel fans so you can f**** right off!
DeleteYes, TVBTN has recently added the "official statement from The CW" about three shows being renewed early.
ReplyDeleteNo mention of GG, though, my guess is that The CW is weighing one of the several things - how many episodes to give the show if it's renewed, or whether to renew it at all as the show hasn't announced a replacement showrunner yet; I know nothing about GG beyond what's posted on IMDB or wiki.
I usually tune in, and it's been incredibly disappointing the last two years or so. I can see the CW giving them a 13-episode swan song instead of cancelling it outright, since it was a pretty good performer when it began.
ReplyDeleteTriple agree. But I wouldn't count on it. JC likes writing for Cas and there's no barriers (on MC's part) to prevent Cas from being in S8. (***Heavy Sigh***)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I love Nikita, too, and I'd far rather all the freshman shows to cancelled (even though I've watched all three from the start and all three have something good to recommend about them) and Nikita renewed.
ReplyDeleteYay! for Supernatural! It lost over half its fandom from Seasons 4 thru 6 from the lack of the brotherhood and it has been really struggling in later Season 6 and 7 to recapture that special bond between the boys What gives me a lot of hope for this show even with the two big wrongs of Castiel alive and Bobby dead .Is what I saw in Party On Garth and last weeks episode "Of Grave Importance" and re-enforced again in this one (The Girl With The Dungeons and Dragons Tatto)and that is Sam and Dean are a solid team in every way and they together take the lead.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt the episodes leading up to the finale and the finale itself will be made better because of their united leadership and the bond they share as brothers, which seems to be growing stronger with each episode. It's when they are the most effective against evil. Its when Supernatural is at its best. Hoping Season 8 finds Supernatural at its best and then some by returning it to being the story of Sam and Dean
That's my guess, too, but when will the CW air "The Final Season" and also does it *need* to be 13 episodes? (I think I read, yes, it does, that's the minimum "order" in the US). My thinking if it were only 10 or 11 episode, "the final season" could be aired "complete" in the fall 2012 without carrying at least 2 eps over the winter hiatus. That way the show could more be seamlessly replaced by a new mid-season drama, especially if paired with another drama, and not an ANTM "cycle".
ReplyDeleteAs ANTM and several CW shows often start in early September and with GG's "Final Season" there's no need for a mid-season cliffee and so GG *could* get 13 eps aired in the fall 2012.
I wasn't really worried but the official confirmation is good to have.:)
ReplyDeleteAlright this is really great & good new's we have another year with Supernatural & hopefully more to come because me & my family & all my friend's love supernatural another good year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
ReplyDeleteVery expected but very happy to get confirmation. The fact that they did not mention it as the final season means things are good for season 9 too, providing Jensen and Jared want to continue and they can come to an agreement in contract negotiations.
ReplyDeleteThe official release mentions VD, Supernatural and 90210. No official word on Gossip Girl.
ReplyDeleteThey could toss Hart of Dixie too if they want to be extremely bold in picking up pilots or if they give GG a full final season.
ReplyDeleteI watched all of Nikita a few months ago and I truly enjoy it. However, with those ratings there is no way the CW can renew it and still look their shareholders in the eye. Such a shame more Nielsen viewers don't know how much fun it is.
ReplyDeleteNot a surprise but still nice to get confirmation!
ReplyDeleteNetworks can order however many episodes they want but 13 is the typical number. If they do pick up 13, I see them airing straight through so there is no winter hiatus even if that means a less than ideal day for the finale. I can't see them carrying a dead show over a hiatus.
ReplyDeleteOr the CW folds as a network. Not getting a final season announcement here makes it far more likely that SPN will get at least a season 9 pickup.
ReplyDeleteI'd say this year because of those awful ratings, the CW will cancel more than it usually does. They have to make a big gamble because they won't be able to stay on the air with the numbers most shows are posting.
ReplyDeleteActually, it has to be Carry On Wayward Son. Not only is it SPN's theme song, but we do indeed get to carry on next year.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame because the season finales are always some of the best in the season.
ReplyDeleteWith GG's ratings being what they are, I think 13 eps. is the most they'll get from The CW. As for Dixie, I no longer think the renewal will hinge on how many pilots are picked up because The CW wants to add more scripted programming to the schedule than they had for the 2011-2012 season.
ReplyDelete"
ReplyDeleteIt lost over half its fandom from Seasons 4 thru 6 from the lack of the brotherhood"
Or it was from the natural attrition that ALL shows (except apparently NCIS) face on a yearly basis. Or the fact that it was moved to a Friday night. Or the fact that it gets higher DVR numbers now. Or.... There are a lot of factors that go into ratings. Saying it is from a lack of brotherhood is just fan guessing. The brother relationship drives my feelings for Supernatural so I don't disagree with some of your points, but I don't think you can make the claim that one thing lead to a ratings freefall.
As for "true" numbers of #SPN viewers, this explains a whole lot better than I ever could. SPN ratings - the math: http://www.thewinchesterfamilybusiness.com/archive-articles/23-general/17064-what-are-supernaturals-true-ratings-.html#.T58HSuN1LUN.twitter
I also agree GG gets no more than 13 episodes, although if it weren't for the patented CW final season memorial I don't think it would get any. I will grin and bear the idea of GG renewed again simply because it increases the chances that SPN will get a final season memorial too in the future.
ReplyDeleteAs for packing the schedule, I love that idea. However I think they are more likely to use game shows and reality TV as Schedule Spackle than dramas. It looks like Cut will be a 13 episode drama. If GG is also 13 episodes, I'm not sure they will pick up any other drama as filler.
"As for packing the schedule, I love that idea. However I think they are
ReplyDeletemore likely to use game shows and reality TV as Schedule Spackle than
dramas"
Normally I'd agree with you but the CW president specifically said scripted programming. Most of CW's reality offerings will be broadcast during the summer and the plan is to have more scripted drama spread out across the fall and spring TV seasons with less repeats.
He also talked about 2 comedies they are hot on right now. I kind of expect to hear something about them, especially if some of the pilots tank, although they might not be ready even at midseason.
ReplyDeleteAccording to THR, CW's comedy projects are on hold until the network's schedule is more stable.
ReplyDeleteVery true. And the Friday night time slot should be a death trap for the age demo that make up the bulk of the fans. And then you have dinosaurs like me, laying around recovering from another back surgery watching two episodes a day on TNT and settling in for Friday night also.
ReplyDeleteThe viewership is strong and loyal though last year and the a bad big bad this year are testing the mettle.
A good question for fandom should be how far would they accept the writers straying from the heart of the show. (Time travel, mortal enemies, teaming up with the bad guys, etc)
Good to hear! No longer worried about that cliffhanger.
ReplyDeleteHopefully and most probably Cas will be back.
ReplyDeleteHope they find a trick to bring back human Bobby Ghost Bobby is great for a storytelling POV but I do not wish Bobby to stay a ghost..
sammy birthday is a magical day ;)
ReplyDeleteDisqus generic email templatemy friend is there theme song that never will change if somebody create video collage to celebrate this renewal will be very cool
ReplyDeleteTension between the brothers was the main emotional storyline. I can understand you didn't like it, but it was good storytelling and very moving to see the boys struggle with what defines them at heart.
ReplyDeleteI think that partly because of that crisis, their bond is even stronger and healthier now.
You may consider Cas as a wrong, but I consider him as a strong addition. Castiel introduction definitively renewed and strenghtened my interest for the show.
IMO, Fully fledged characters others than the brothers are an asset.
As a forum admin since season 2, I tend to agree with Shimmerinstars77. That certainly has been my experience. Everyone was perfectly happy with the show until season 4. Then a lot of people left because they grew tired of the brothers fighting constantly. Others didn't like what became of the mythology.Thankfully, the undeniable epicness of season 4 brought in new fans.Of course, the fan turnover is normal for every show, but I don't think it's a coïncidence it started there.Hum, now I realise you guys were talking about ratings. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind tension between the brothers. What bothered me is that most of the time it felt forced and unnatural. The writers were trying way too hard to separate Sam from Dean and vice versa, and it showed. Badly.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about Bobby and I absolutely believe if JB continues some presence on the show it is as resurrected human. IIRC Robert Singer or Sera Gamble say after "Cas" was "killed" that on a show like SPN sometimes in order for a character to "evolve" you have to kill them first (and secondtime for Bobby and third for Cas but who's counting ;) ).
ReplyDeleteCas (or another angel or even Death) could resurrect Ghost!Bobby to further his (Cas's) "Road to Redemption" and I wouldn't regret seeing and "living through "Death's Door" anymore than than "Hello Cruel World" as both were amazing episodes, In other words, I wouldn't feel cheated for mourning for Bobby, and then having Bobby return to life as some fans would.
Me neither. Sam death in AHBL still break my heart.
ReplyDeleteI would add that this season showed that the boys still need him.
Bobby encyclopedic knowledge to face new opponents and singer salvage as a safe house to lick their wounds.
And frankly, in my heart, "grumpy no-nonsense Bobby" beat "conspiracy freak frank" anytime ;)
Yep. SPN survived the slot of death. Fandom can be proud :-)
ReplyDeleteTo answer your last question:
Writers can stray as much as they want but:
-Dean and Sam must stay on the same (good) side.
-Writers have to keep the rich thematic: family, what made us a human or a monster; free will and duty ...
-The show must keep it's angsty tone. Funny or meta episodes are great but must be kept in check.
- maybe keep bringing handsome male guest stars? ;-)
Otherwise, I think I would be good with almost anything. Even *gasp* drop the "on the road with baby" format and have the boys move in Singer salvage for example.
Boys have already made temporary alliance with vilains. I like those shade of grey in the show.
They time-traveled too. As long as they don't dress in star trek spandex outfit, I'm ok with that.
They have met all sort of monsters and gods. the more, the merrier.
The only thing I have in mind that would have me run away would be that one of the boy would be bitten or transformed in a monster but still be good at heart and teaming with his bro. They have to stay humans.
*nod*
ReplyDeleteI get what you mean. I remember feeling that way at some point during season five.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that possibility. I think that the new president needs to come up with some hits in the next year or two to prevent that from happening. I agree it is very likely that a season 9 is a possible go as well UNLESS mid season 8 we get news that there are stuff going behind the scenes a la House for example.
ReplyDeleteAt this rate- Jensen's "prediction" way back at the Paley panel in S1 is coming true--we are likely to watch the boys hunting with "walking canes"...:P I am curious not only to watch another couple of seasons but rather to see how the future showrunner would chose to end it. Would it be an testament to the overall body of work that the show has produced or would it be a mix of a season cliffhanger/ending for the last 2-3 seasons? My hunch says the latter...
Very well said :) I guess it is left up to us to wonder what new supernatural bad the boys will be up against. Will it still be the Levitians?
ReplyDeleteWell it is steady pay for them and who knows maybe they are looking to branch out to movies, etc. I know that they're signed up to S8 so S9 is much more up in the air mainly due to them wanting to continue and sign on for more.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. contract disputes seem to be the only thing besides the actors not wanting to continue that could keep the show from getting season 9 at this point. Even horrible ratings can't stop a show on the CW these days.
ReplyDeleteAs for the ending, I thought at least when Sera was in charge that they were going to have Kripke write any future finale with his vision. It seems fitting that he get to chose how the Winchesters go out. And if he does, it will be a blood bath of death.
YAY!
ReplyDeleteYep. And the CW had so much potential in it. I wonder how the new president will run things. It should be interesting to see what he does come upfronts in two weeks.
ReplyDeleteI see your point and I agree. Hopefully, whoever will be showrunner at the time will still let Kripke write it which would be awesome for the fans and yes I agree it will be a blood bath of death :) if Kripke does write it.
UHULL, YAY, *screams like a crazy person* SOOOOO HAPPY!!!!
ReplyDeleteI read some comments that said no more Castiel, just wanna say: I disagree, MORE CASTIEL PLEASE!!! And I want Adam back to...
ReplyDelete
