Supernatural - Favorite Season 7 Episode, Round 2 - Poll

25 May 2012

We're starting out strong in our quest to crown the best season 7 episode of Supernatural. Winners of round 1 are Survival of the Fittest, Time After Time, The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo, and The Born-Again Identity. These episodes will move on to the next level. Today we have the preliminaries for the other side of the bracket. This round includes some of the most favorably reviewed of season 7 including the first 2 episodes and the critically praised Death's Door. Death's Door beat both of them in our midseason poll. Will it hang on to the lead to be crowned winner over all or will subsequent plot lines color the voting? Should be an interesting 24-hours of voting.

Don't forget to nominate your favorite episode quotes too. Nominations are open for a week so you can still nominate quotes for any episode from the Pilot to Asylum.

  1. OK - I give up.  I tried to find a gif of the PPMM title card that would work but nothing did.  If anyone has a suggestion, I'd appreciate it.

Home and Asylum are opposite episodes for me.  I hate Home, mostly because I loathe
Missouri.  Nothing that crossed her lips
will get a nomination from me including "whack you with a
spoon."  Mostly that episode is best
in the first 18 minutes so most of my quotes come from them.  However, Asylum is my vote for scariest
episode.  Add in all the snark and you
have a winner.  In fact there are so many
great lines in Asylum that I couldn't narrow it to 5.  Instead I included my top 12 lines, and still
not one quote about Jack Nicholson made it in.
Shame because those were classics too.

    Home Quotes:

    Honorable Mentions:
Flaming Mom Ghost:   "You get out of my house and let go of my
    son."

    Dean:  "Dad, I
know I've left you messages before.  I
don't even know if you get them.  But I'm
with Sam and we're in Lawrence and there's something in our old house.  I don't know if it's the thing that killed
mom or not, but I don't know what to do so whatever you're doing, if you could
get here.  Please, I need your help
    dad."

    5.  Dean:  "I mean first you tell me that you got
the Shining and then you tell me that I've got to go back home especially
when.."  Sam:  "When what?"  Dean:  "When
I swore to myself that I would never go back there."  Sam:
"Look, Dean we have to check this out just to make sure."  Dean:
    "I know we do."

    4.  Flaming Mom
    Ghost:  "Sam, I'm sorry."

    3.  Dean:  "Hey, am I boring you with this hunting
    evil thing?"

    2.  Dean:  "Well one thing's for damn sure.  No body's dying in this house ever
    again."

    1.  Sam:  "I have these nightmares."  Dean:
    "I've noticed."
    Sam:  "And sometimes they
    come true."  Dean:  "Come again?"

    Asylum Quotes:

    12.  Sam:  "Do we need to talk about
    this?"  Dean:  "No.
I'm not really in the sharing and caring kind of mood.  I just want to get some sleep."

    11.  Dean:  "Sam, put the gun down."  Sam:
    "Is that an order?"
Dean:  "No it's more of a
    friendly request."

    10.  Gavin:  "So what the hell are we going to
do?"  Sam:  "For starters, we're not going to
panic."  Gavin:  "Why the hell not?"

    9.  Sam:  You think dad was texting us?  The man can barely work a toaster."

    8.  Dean:  "I love the guy but I swear he writes
    like freaking Yoda."

    7.  Dean:  "You're not going to try to kill me are
    you?"  Sam:  "No."  Dean:
"Good cuz that would be awkward."

    6.  Kat:  "Hey Gavin….if we make it out of here
alive, we are so breaking up."

    5.  Gavin:  "Dude, she kissed me.  I'm scarred for life."

    4.  Dean:  "Hey Sam, who do you think is the hotter
psychic - Patricia Arquette, Jennifer Love Hewitt, or you?"

    3.  Sam:  "It doesn't matter what he
wants."  Dean:  "See, that attitude right there, that is
why I always got the extra cookie."

    2.  Dean:  "Just be careful though.  The only thing that makes more nervous than a
p** off spirit is the P*** off spirit of a psycho killer."

    1.  Kat:  "So how do you guys know about all of this
ghost stuff?"  Sam:  "It's kind of our job."  Kat:
"Why would anyone want a job like that?"  Sam:
"I had a cr** guidance counselor."

    Slash fiction

  4. 1. Meet the New Boss - awesome start to the season and really astounded me with the quality of the show bouncing off of Season 6
    2. Slash Fiction - one of the 4 episodes in the first half of the season I enjoyed
    3. Death's Door - easily the best episode of the season, tugged at so many heart strings, one of my favorites of the shows run
    4. Hello Cruel World - amazing follow up to the premiere, continued my renewed hope in the show (before that was diminished after this episode)

  5. Meet the New Boss - Insane season premiere,my favorite after Lazarus Rising.Of Grave Importance was good too,but there's no contest.

Reading is Fundamental - It's 50/50,both were amazing episodes. In these cases,I vote for the one I think will lose.

Death's Door - One of the best episodes this season,if not the best.Such a shame that How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters had to face it.Amazing episode as well.

Hello,Cruel World - Picked up after the premiere brilliantly. Some great moments in it!Party On,Garth was fun too.Maybe it was a little too soon to have a character we've seen only once before so heavily involved in an episode, but Garth is fun.But I'm not really objective, cause I adore the actor!

I wanted to pick the quotes as well, but the ones for Asylum require a lot of thinking(maybe a rewatch) and I have a class for which I'm already late for.I'll sort them out when I come back...

  6. Meet the New Boss - Cas was awesome as God, and it was a great introduction to Sam's hallucinations - really scary.  I'm not sure what I think about Dean in that one.  He rubbed me the wrong way initially, but his asian cartoon porn is growing on me.  Of Grave Importance was a decent ghost and Bobby story, but I was annoyed at how passive they wrote Sam.  Dean was leading him around through the whole episode, and Sam's limited dialogue was mostly constrained to asking questions.

Reading is Fundamental - I don't expect this one to be as popular because it didn't have much of an emotional punch, but I found it very well done and it's one of the smarter ones of the season (had to watch it twice to get even begin to interpret a lot of the comments).  My one criticism with this was that it was out of character for Sam to make the Transformers joke and to have not scooped up the bag with the tablets when running after Meg, but Sam's IQ has been battered much worse this season, so I'll let it slide.  With Slash Fiction, I loved the scenes of the LeviSam and LeviDean opening fire the bankers and the diners, and I really liked the Bobby/Jody scene, but the rest was meh.  This was during the time when the writers were dumbing down Sam and Dean to build up their dependence on Bobby, and I felt like I was watching a wise father with his two teenage sons.  I was yelling at my television when Sam and Dean announced they were going to go after the Leviathans without any way of killing them.  They were like the teenagers in the earlier seasons who used to walk into haunted houses and need to be rescued, whom Dean used to lecture.  There was also Frank telling them a lot of what Sam would have known in earlier seasons and the gap in logic in not trying to change their physical appearances.

Death's Door - Really touching look at Bobby's life, and Rufus scenes were great.  It was a fitting goodbye to the character.  I tend to forget parts of the show or characters I don't like, so I'm guessing that soon I will have forgotten all about the ghost Bobby arc and will only remember Death's Door as the send off.  How to Win Friends was also very good.  It got a little slow when the Leviathans were yapping away, but the episode had some great scenes, including the glampers and the oozing sandwich.  Also, there was the big cliffhanger at the end.

Hello Cruel World - Loved the Leviathan introduction and the creepy girl, and loved the warehouse scene between Sam and Dean.  I've already forgotten Party on Garth (see passage above where I say I forget characters I don't like much).

  7. Asylum is one of my favorite episodes.  Partly because of the constant humor, partly because of the fright factor, and partly because it's a brilliant episode made more so because of the sucky 3 episodes before it.

  8. Okay,quotes:

    Home
    - Dean: "Am I boring you with this hunting-evil stuff?"

    - Missouri: "Don't worry about a thing,your wife's crazy about you.Oh,poor bastard.His woman is cold-banging the gardener."

    Asylum
    - Sam: "Do you think Dad's sending us coordinates?"
      Dean: "He's done it before."
Sam: "The man can barely use a toaster,Dean."

    - Sam: "What Dad "wants" doesn't matter."
Dean: "You see that? That attitude there? That's why I always got the extra cookie."

Honorable mention, because the whole exchange is priceless:

Sam: "Kat,it's not trying to hurt you!Listen to me,you have to face it,you gotta calm down!
    Dean: "She's gotta what?!"
    Kat: "I have to what?!"
Sam: "These spirits, they're not trying to hurt us,they're trying to communicate! You gotta listen to it,you gotta face it."
    Kat: "YOU FACE IT!"

Kat was awesome!Definitely gonna rewatch it tonight!

  9. I voted for Of Grave Importance - because at the time I voted, it had no votes and I felt sorry for it going up against Meet the New Boss.

Slash Fiction - because it had the awesome LeviaChesters and the even more awesome diner scene.  This one makes it on my favorite SPN episodes of all time list.

How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters - man do I hate that this one is going up against Death's Door.  I thought this episode was a 42 minute work of brilliance hearkening back to earlier seasons.  I also loved Death's Door by the way.  Well once I got over Bobby dying.

Hello, Cruel World - because of the awesomeness of the first two episodes, I like this one better.  Also because I vaguely remember in Party On Garth that they were drunk and Dean was using a sword Bobby  scooted to him but that's about it.  Garth is not on my list of characters I need to have back.

  10. Yeah, someone else who voted for How To Win.....  It's a real shame this one had to face a behemoth like Death's Door in the first round.

  11. Asylum is always worth rewatching.  If I have time for an episode or two and I'm not going in order, Asylum, Scarecrow, and Faith are 3 I watch over and over again.  Good luck in class.

  13. Sarah from Provenance, Michael from Something Wicked, and Kat were 3 of the strongest PiP's in season 1.  I would love for any of them to return.

  14. Of Grave Importance, Slash Fiction, Death's Door, Hello, Cruel World.

    Quotes:

    Home:
Dean:  "Hey, am I boring you with this hunting evil thing?"

Sam:  "I have these nightmares."  Dean:  "I've noticed."  Sam:  "And sometimes they come true."  Dean:  "Come again?"

Asylum (too much good quotes, hard choose):Dean: "Hey, I got a question for ya. You seen a lot of horror movies, yeah?"
    Katherine: "Yeah, I guess so."
Dean: "Do me a favor, next time you see one, pay attention. When someone says a place is haunted, don't go in."

Katherine:  "So how do you guys know about all of this ghost stuff?"
Sam:  "It's kind of our job."
Katherine: "Why would anyone want a job like that?"
Sam:  "I had a crappy guidance counselor."

  15. Meet the New Boss - One of my favorites.  I'd vote for it over the majority of eps. this season.
Reading is Fundamental - It's probably the best episode of the entire seventh season, so of course it will lose.
Win Friends/Influence Monsters - I'm with Dahne on this one.
Party On Garth - I'm long over Lucifer and his intrusive appearances.  So, I reluctantly vote for Garth.

  16. Besides "low sodium freaks"  the guidance counselor comment is my favorite Sam quote in season 1.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Meet the New Boss - I really enjoyed Of Grave Importance, but Meet the New Boss is a better episode.

Slash Fiction - Much more enjoyable than Reading is Fundamental. Good humor, some fun brother-moments. Just too bad the Amy crap had to exist...

How To Win Friends... - I loved Death's Door so much, but if given the option of watching that versus How To Win Friends, I'll choose How To Win Friends every time simply because Death's Door is too much heartache. Plus, I really don't think Death's Door will lose, so I'm giving How To Win Friends some love.

Hello, Cruel World - I think this is the best episode of season 7, hands down. So I'll vote it always against everything else.
