Thanks to DarthLocke for the heads up.
Billy Burke discusses "Revolution"
NBC's new drama "Revolution" sounds like it could be very confusing to understand -- especially since it comes from the mind of all-around TV genius J.J. Abrams -- but star Billy Burke tells Zap2it that it's actually easy to follow.
"I don't think people will be confused in the slightest watching it," he says. "For some reason, all forms of energy and power go out. Fifteen years later, people are trying to get along and trying to figure out how to reconnect and how to form new societies without any of those benefits. We cut back and forth a little bit in time, but it's all pretty linear and very easy to follow and highly entertaining."
Burke, who says "'Revolution' is my favorite thing I've done in a very very long time," explains that his character is a former member of the military "forced into coming back to fight for the cause."
And yes, he's definitely a J.J. Abrams fan and totally loved the early days of "Lost." "The first season, I was bending over backwards," he says, but admits he doesn't have an opinion on the divisive finale. "I didn't see it -- I don't know! Sorry J.J., I didn't see it!"

Jon Favreau discusses "Revolution"
"Jon Favreau has shared new details about NBC series Revolution.
Iron Man director Favreau has helmed the pilot for the sci-fi drama devised by JJ Abrams (Lost) and Eric Kripke (Supernatural).
"It definitely shares some DNA with Lost and [JJ's other] shows," Favreau told The Hollywood Reporter.
"But I think when Eric came up with the idea for this, I think he was looking at things like Game of Thrones [and] Lord of the Rings - how to set a fantasy with swords and lo-tech societies butting [heads] and set it on an American backdrop."
Set in the near future, Revolution takes place in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.
"Even though America's overgrown, [the series] has a personality that you don't see in... European-based shows," insisted Favreau. "

I can't wait for this show to start!
ReplyDeletelet's hope it woon't share the same fate as terranova
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this show
ReplyDeleteI also found this article about how a shot of Wes Ball's short film, "Ruin" was put into "Revolution" Trailer/Pilot...

If it does, it will be for different reasons. IMO the worst thing about Terra Nova was the dialogue, occasional over acting, followed by too light of plot devices.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to ever watch Supernatural, but from Bad Robot's end, I can't imagine that they will speak to the audience like we are all five, or that as time goes on their won't be interesting political and mythological plots that will continuously build. So far looking at the like of D. Lyions' character, "General Monroe", there seems to be an emphasis on American History, as Monroe may relate to the fifth Presiden, James Monroe, who fought in "The Revolutionary War" for 'The New Republic' and later "Fort Monroe" named after this president used much during the time of the "American Civil War" (Contraband). In "Revolution" part of the U.S. is renamed "The Monroe Republic".
The dialogue in the trailer was rather terse in my opinion. "IT'S GONNA TURN OFF AND IT'S NOT TURNING BACK ON!" lol
ReplyDeleteI've been super upset with JJ forever, he's on the path to redemption with PoI but that show is mostly J. Nolan's baby. Eric Kripke I can get behind whole heartedly. I feel like it's going to be Jericho 2.0 more than anything (I loved that show).
ReplyDeleteDarth, did you get the link i left for you.Its an 8 minute film of Ruin by the person who actually did it?
ReplyDeleteWell, ya, --he was in a panic so he's not going to be like, "Hi brother, you know in physics how every living being runs on electricity and how "we" have expanded on being able to use it with our every day modern tools, ya this guy who was once "so and so" is going to find a way, nanotechnology I think, because you know I am a tech guy, to absolve all the outer living being electricity, and well, it's happening right now. Call me later, oh wait you can't"
ReplyDeleteAnd not everyone can be like Walter Bishop, William Bell, Daniel Faraday, or Marshall Flankman. :p
I think because it's the pilot and they're trying to make it easier to follow the dialogue may be 'watered down' a bit, but I think as we go on conversation will become more complex. They have to be careful not to give everything away right on the spot.
Can't wait for this..
ReplyDeleteNo, sorry I didn't, but thanks! It's niffty that they were able to use [buy?] this shot....People always think Bad Robot steals ideas, when in fact they just intentionally reference other people's works to tie it into their shows, because these are things that we all individually relate to and bring us together as viewers, while also then expanding on the themes by having such references....Many people have commented the similarity of this plot of the novel, "Dies the Fire" (which is also similar to Jerecho)...I wouldn't be surprised to see the novel some where or some kind of blatant reference to it...
ReplyDeleteIMO Bad Robot has great ideas, but for me, it comes down to loving the dynamics of the characters and discovering whom they are in conjunction to what-ever bigger event(s) that sucks me in. A giant mystery is only as good and interesting as the people who are in wake of it....which is the point. Theses shows are about humanity and "our" choices above all else.
Everyone thought Abrams was trying ti imitate Speilberg in "Super 8", they didn't get that wasn't imitating him, but rather using his own style while"referencing" Speilberg's works.

ReplyDeleteOf course it will be easy to follow because, JJ might be producing but, Kripke actually write it and he doesn't subscribe to the intricate overly complicated storytelling the usual JJ stuff do. Eric is an answer guy.
This is why I think the show will work because it will combine the best elements from both those guys.
