I hate Emily and Jack, they have no chemistry. I prefer Daniel, even if he's like his family now. I think if they were really in love, it could be interesting. Revenge vs Love, not caring as she did the first half of the season, but love. And I hate Ashely!
I honestly don't feel she chemistry with either of them. I just can't find anything to be interested about in that "triangle".
Emily VanCamp in general has difficulty connecting with other actors. When Tom Armandes, Chris Pratt and Madeline Stowe can't regularly draw an organic feeling scene out of you, you know your iffy.
She's distant and can't connect because character demands so. Consider everything that happened to her and what's driving her to do all she is doing. That requires quite a reservation and lack of connecting. On the other hand, observe how she did connect with Jack when their dog was dying.
omigodomigod... can't take it, I burst into tears on the last episode so much, Emily is so much different when she's with Jack. Poor Sammy, poor Jack! I love them.
I think she works on this show because her character is a bit of a sociopath, but when I talk about her being very hard to connect to other actors, I mean it's obvious in everything I've ever seen her in.
Everwood had a tremendous cast with tremendous chemistry and she was absolutely the weak link. Luckily, the one person she needed to work with (Gregory Smith), she did work with, but I think he carried the mail on that one. Not all that unlike how Gabriel Mann adds a kind of devious charisma to the scheming and revenging.
She's just a very limited actress, and it shows with her scenes with those two. It all feels very wrote with both of them. No heat, not pop.
i havent watched the last episode yet but my thoughts on the connection between Jack and Emily is very 'junior' the love they feel for each other is based on their lives shared as children and not adults. i think thats why the sexual chemistry is relatively low. with time and not so many secrets i think they would be perfect together.
as for Daniel, my opinion changes every week, mostly leaning towards not liking him. he is quite a 'weak' personality. I prefer my male lead characters to be bolder, stronger. I think the finale and season 2 will be a big test for his character since he has stepped up as being like the rest of his family.
You know, I could agree that VanCamp is rather wooden in her interactions, like she helds back (although I find her acting rather good, it's the connecting that is kinda distant). But that is EXACTLY what the Emily character needs, so it works incredible well in my opinion.
That said, I think she did a great job in the scene of Sammy dying, it was like the first time I saw real emotion from her, which made it even more especial.
But at the end of the day, this role fits her like a glove, and I can't imagine another actress playing Emily; VanCamp is like the primordial Ice Queen.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Can't wait!!

ReplyDeleteI am the complete opposite of you.

ReplyDelete"If I don't make it out of this, tell Jack that I love him." *tears*
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be great! Wednesday, hurry up, please.
I have to disagree, I don't dislike Daniel or anything, but the rare times that you see REAL emotions from Emily are in her scenes with Jack.

I would be much happier if there wasn't any romance in the show at all. Emily has no chemistry with Daniel OR Jack.
ReplyDeleteI'm really worried! Have no idea, what's going on!
ReplyDeleteOkay I'm torn over Seven Devils being used.... on the one hand it fits with the promo, on the other hand I've identified it with GoT too much!
ReplyDeleteOther than that, great intense Promo! Can't wait for the finale....
OMG! Freaking out!!!
ReplyDeleteIs Nolan ok?? I'm freaking out here!!!
ReplyDeleteAHHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHA!
ReplyDeleteOh, that was good!
