ABC's Private Practice will return for a sixth season but it will be without one of its original cast members.
Co-star Tim Daly will not be returning to the Shonda Rhimes medical drama, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

This sucks! He was one of my fave characters, makes me sad!:( I must say I wasn't happy on how they wrote him last Season, but I think they could've done more with his character....
ReplyDeleteNo!! I like him, this must mean the end of Pete and Violet!!
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of Pete at all, or of Tim "I'll pretend I'm not in PP for the first two seasons" Daly, but now? Too late and pointless.
ReplyDeleteThe time to get rid of Pete was when he had the heart attack as a end of season cliffhanger and nobody cared at the ABC official boards. Not one comment about that cliffhanger during the hiatus. When a character is in a life and death situation, and nobody cared, was the time to kill him. Giving him an arc, and the episode's A-story, when the show was fighting for ratings was a huge mistake. Ratings went down, but getting rid of him now is just clunky.
They either are going to do a lot of exposition in 6.01 to explain why he is gone, which is bad TV. Or they are going to pretend nothing happen and get the issue out of the way in the first 5 minutes of the episode before shoving Pete down the elevator shaft to keep company with Sam's dog and Milo, the cat, which is also bad TV.
Pete was always a miscast. Tim Daly was to old to play Addison's principal love interest when he was cast, and consequently demoted to Violet's love interests, and I would be ecstatic had he died at the end of season 4. Now it's just to little to late, and means that the show will have to waste time with Violet, going through a grieving process, for the third time. Yuck.
Wow. Shonda Rhimes is such a class act. Not.
ReplyDeleteTHANK GOD!!!
ReplyDeleteA shame considering it's the final season and it's shortened, but I don't like him so not overly fussed. I hope he comes back for at least the first episode to explain why he's gone (i.e. he's in prison)
ReplyDeleteFor a long time I wasn't happy with the character - nothing against the actor, but Pete was just boring - and then Violet/Pete happened. Even though his characterization in s5 was awful, I am going to miss my second favourite couple. I just hope they find some good reason for him to go; Shonda-like ridiculous death that somehow makes sense would be good.
ReplyDeleteWhat, noooooooooooooooo. I love Tim!
ReplyDeleteShonda I hate you so much after this season, I hope someday your shows will be cancel and you will be sad unemployed!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how they plan on writing him out... I hope they don't just plan on leaving him in jail lol...
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I'm a little surprised by this since Pete does have a kid with Violet and that's a pretty significant tie but I guess if he's in jail. Pete has been an annoying jerk for a while though so I don't think I'll miss him.
ReplyDeleteCan't say that I am sad about this news... Pete has seriously become one of the most annoying characters this season..
ReplyDeleteHowever, it is kind of weird that Shonda Rhimes told Tim Daly through his manager that he would not be returning to PP next season... after so many years, at least a personal phonecall would have been appropriate, right?
Not bothered about this. I did like Pete at the beginning but HATED Pete/Violet.
ReplyDeleteAs long as Amelia, Charlotte(and Cooper) and Sheldon are in the next season I don't mind who leaves - the rest of them bore now.
I can honestly say I'm okay with this. Pete used to be one of my favorite characters, and while he seemed to add a darker edge to the show recently, I don't know that I'll miss him. I couldn't care less about the Violet/Pete story line, and haven't for a while, so I'm not bothered on that front, either. I just wonder how they'll write him off? Is he going to be shut up in prison? Or will he move away?
ReplyDeleteI really wonder why? Tim's tweet made it sound like he wasn't expecting it.
ReplyDelete"Wonderful fans of PPP. Shonda informed my agent today that Pete wont be
returning for season 6. It was a great 5 yrs. R.I.P. Pete Wilder."
Normally Shonda kinda talks about these kinda things with the actors, right? Like she did with Kim Raver and Chyler Leigh from Grey's. Kinda weird.
That being said, I don't think I will actually miss Pete on the show. But still, it's weird.
Didn't see this coming, I thought he would be back next season to follow up on his jail time but I guess I was wrong. I have disliked Pete all season but was a fan of Pete and Violet but I won't be sad because I have had enough of his whining so I guess i'll be okay with him leaving.
ReplyDeleteI guess that Pete is going to return for the first episodes of the season and will find his death in the show's 100th episode.
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly what i was thinking! It is weird, maybe we'll get some kind of statement from shonda later in the summer , but it sounds like it was more shonda's desition than tim's ...
ReplyDeleteYeah, I really hope either Tim or Shonda will explain it...
ReplyDeleteBlatantly will return in the last episode or 2 so he can be reunited with Violet for a happy ending.
ReplyDeletewell hopefully Amy B follow's him out the door can't stand her character and to watch a depressed violet again errr no thanks.
ReplyDeleteAgree 100%. They're the only characters I give a damn about. The rest have all been ruined.
ReplyDeleteMakes no sense with one season left.
