1 May 2012

Thanks to Daniel Alvarez for the heads up.

I hear that ABC is in talks to pick up Private Practice for a 13-episode sixth and final season. I hear a final renewal decision on the bubble series has not been made yet but the series’ chances have been helped by its strong ratings performance last week

  1. I don't want the show to end, but a 13 episode final season is good I guess. At least they wouldn't be just cancelling it out of the blue this year.

  2. Does this open the chance for Kate Walsh to return on Grey's Anatomy or is that a long shot?

  3. Does GA really need any more cast members, even old ones, back, though? There's already enough people on the show.

  4. Better having a 13 episode final season than nothing :) i wonder if grey's goes for a 10 season addison would be brought back to seattle :P

  5. Well one won't be returning so I guess that's up in the air. It doesn't have to be full time, maybe guest more often. Besides Addison, I really want Izzie to come back for a while just to have a wrap up.

  6. She could go back midseason of Season 9 but then again, why would she move to back to Seattle?

  7.  ditto!
i was really hoping they could bring Izzie back this season, but i understand why it didn't happen!

  8.  haha maybe cuz Arizona dies and they need someone to fill her position and Addie is the closest thing to a Pediatric surgeon

  9. 13 is better than nothing, but it's  thinking small.

PP has proven to be a valuable player in filling difficult slots. All shows that ABC put in the 10pm slot on Thursdays failed until PP took over the slot, Men In Trees, Car Poolers, Life on Mars, and the list goes on.  The slot was called ABC's slot of death. Even now, it's replacement still can't beat PP's numbers in that slot.

PP seems to be able to grow on a slot that the fans of previous occupant also called the slot of death, and even beat a show on ABC with better lead-in and more promotion. Tuesday is no place to premiere a show, and PP probably would keep the slot decently occupied until Castle was ready to move there in the following year to also for a final season.

  10. I agree with you, they'll probaly lost more than one this season, that would be nice if Addison return in the middlle of the season, maybe...she's a great character to be lost...she, Amelia and Charlote(with cooper..)

  11. Yeah I agree, the cast of GA is so crowded... However there's potentially quite a lot of people leaving after season 8 is up! I personally think bringing Izzie back would be better for ratings though.

  12. I wonder what that means for Scandal, which gets relatively similar ratings/demos, I guess it's stable for now with a good lead-in.

  13. I don't watch this show, but I do think the trend of giving shows that are going to be cancelled a 13 epiosde final run to tie up storylines is a good idea.  It shows that the execs are thinking of the fans and letting the programme makeser have a chance to wrap everything up in (hopefully) a satisfying way.  So for fans of the show, I hope that this is the case.

  14. I dont watch this show but I did predict it would have a final season, I was expecting the full 22 to be announced but 13 isnt a bad idea. It means a show like Scandal or GCB could be back for a half season or they could premier another show mid season like they did this year.

  15. aw :( I love this so so much - more than Grey's :(

  16. I'm good with that. If it hasn't been performing like they want it to, I suppose that's what they need to do. And I'd much prefer this over a cancellation, of course.

  17. Why are they cancelling it? Private Practice is so much better. It feels like a family. Grey's just is procedural, even though there is drama there's nothing to string it together like Private Practice does. And what Private Practice does best is anchor it to feel like a family.

  18. I think Scandal will get second season it's GCB that is in danger of getting cut

  19. The real problem these days is the way these shows are rated.  The Neilson system is not representative of the true audience of any show on any network.  I suggest that we all petition for the demise of the Neilson rating system or a serious revamp.  With all of the technology available today it shouldn't be so exclusive and difficult.
