Alongside Castle and Nikita that was the best finale this year. I wished all along Victoria wouldn't die; she's a far better adversary than Conrad. But so disappointed with pregnant Amanda coming back did not expect that. But apart from Emily Nolan was so amazing especially at the end with that back.
Can't imagine what next season will bring with potentially three characters dead (Charlotte?). I do see Daniel and Ashley hooking up.
I just believe there will be some way for Victoria to survive.
Calling It now Daniel will be hooking up with Ashley.
Next season's main arc will be Emily against her mother I bet.
jack Is In a bind.He knocked up Amanda but you can tell his heart Is for Emily.Of course he might not be happy when he learns how much he was lied to.Still I think emily and Jack will be like couple you will have to wait for them to get together.
BEST SEAOSON FINALE EVER!patriotfall !!!!!! OMG!!! I LOVE NOLAN.. I wish I had a friend like him.. I can't believe Amanda came back pregnant..WOW!!! I am so impatient for next season ..
DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA. DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA. DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA. DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA. DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA. DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA. DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA. DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA. DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA. DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA. DO NOT KILL OFF VICTORIA.
The good: - Emily and Nolan's one-liners - Emily and Nolan's ever-growing bond - The fight with WHM - Breaking off the engagement
The bad: - the surviving Grayson's continue to become even more despicable. * Charlotte is full-on self-centered, self-sabotaging, drug-addled mess. She's very close to being completely irredeemable. * Conrad is a total bastard. He knew that plane would never reach DC and said nothing. * Daniel is turning into his father as quickly as Charlotte is turning into her mother. - That completely contrived, out of the blue sexual tension between Daniel and Ashley was stupid. - Speaking of contrived, Amanda is back and pregnant in the finale!? Kiss my ass, Revenge writers. - Declan. Nothing specific here. It's just that Declan has always sucked. Why couldn't he have been on that plane too. While we're at it, put Amanda and Ashley on there with him. The only reason why I wouldn't put Charlotte on the plane too is because she's Emily's sister so her character still has potential in spite of what a mess she is.
Okay, so...
The premise of season two is basically going to be a highly intelligent, highly trained young woman seeks to take down a shady organization with ties to the government in retribution for destroying her life.
Revenge is slowly turning into "Nikita: Corporate Edition."
Definitely the best finale this year but am I the only one who thought the build up in the last scene was kind of a bit over done? I mean I pretty much assumed from the first time they brought up the fact that her mother was dead that she was alive and tied into this.
Also seems pretty obvious Victoria faked her own death possibly no? If so I REALLY hope they don't stretch that out all of season 2 and leave us with that as a cliff hanger :-/
I don't believe the out of the blue sexual tension between Daniel and Ashely is stupid, mostly because I didn't see any sexual tension. I saw sexual attraction, yes, but no tension. Daniel was upset, Ashley is beautiful, and she always seems to be near him.
Amanda being back and pregnant is a little contrived, I agree on that, but its perfectly well within the realm of possibility. Plus, I actually like that she's back. If Emily had gone through all of that with Daniel, making Jack a very unhappy guy in the process, then I think it's fair she should pine for a little while. I REALLY hate it how much shows have the guy pining for the girl, that girl makes him miserable by dating someone else, then when things finally fall into place he gets the girl. That's pathetic, and far worse writing than this.
As for Declan, I don't know why so many people dislike him. Sure, he can be a little self-centered at times, but when he came down to it he pretty much gave up the girl he loved to help out his brother. I've read some articles where people formed a lower opinion because of that, but how is what he did at all a bad thing? He stood behind his family, even though he knew what it would cost him. I don't see why people are complaining about that.
As for Charlotte, she was en emotionally unstable girl right from the beginning, who had a much brighter spot when she was with Declan, then when things went bad they went bad ALL AT ONCE. Declan lied for his brother, making her look like a liar and druggie, which she basically was, her brother was on trial for murder, and her parents were in an extremely ugly divorce where she was constantly put between them.
Considering how poisonous her entire family is, I can understand her not exactly being the best person to be around. I can also understand why she downed a bunch of pills when, on top of all that, she thinks her mother just died. Then immediately after that, she calls the one person she knows for support, and is told that he never wants to speak to her ever again. I'd like to see anyone go through all of THAT and not react the way she did.
I think this finale was a lot more than decent, the things on your bad list, most of them are indispesable for a good drama and so are the characters you want to kill. I definitley didn't saw amanda pregnant comming but you can't expect for Jack and Emily being really together in the first season already. I also think Revenge's plot has a lot more depth than Nikita, even if there is a Nikita-like part comming, this show has so much more
- I didn't expect Emily and Jack to get together but I did expect something more creative to keep them apart than Amanda showing up pregnant. - I don't like Declan because he's a superfluous character who takes up screen time that could be used better elsewhere. I feel the same way about Ashley. Her character has outlived any usefulness she once had. - I'm not ragging on Charlotte because of what she does but rather that the writers have seen fit to make sure that it's all she has been doing for the entire back half of the season.
I swear I was mostly kidding when I posited that Emily's Mom was alive. I didn't really think they'd do that! BWHAHAHAHA
From the moment the government dude mentioned that their flight left at 8pm I started thinking....after these people brought down that flight those many years ago...I would NOT get on a plane!
That was pretty much the only thing I really expected...we all knew that in order for a second season something was going to happen to that evidence.
FAUXAmanda is preggers!?!??! I did NOT expect that!
I don't think Victoria is dead? Not quite sure how it'll work but I don't think they're getting rid of that character. My *hope* is that she really hear what Conrad said and got off the plane. No way I'd have gotten on a plane with anything to do with that case.
I mostly agree. I see some of your points...and I disagree with others.
I have to point out that your contempt and dislike of the Graysons...might be considered a point for the writers. These are characters they intend for you to hate. In that sense, would you consider that they're doing their job and doing it well?
Amelia showing up pregnant? I didn't expect that...after it happened I just felt like...Duh! I am watching a trashy soap after all. :-D (can't argue with you too hard on that one. It just didn't bug me.)
I didn't see any sexual tension in that scene between Daniel and Ashley. For me, that scene played as Ashley setting Daniel up. I didn't see any sexual attraction between them at all. or maybe it's cause I've categorized Daniel as weak minded and stupid. Just Ashley's kind of target.
I don't have that much of a problem with Charlotte...I think she's one of the better drawn teen characters. The cliche is the little rich girl that pulls these moves simply because they can. Charlotte is one of the view characters for whom we know why she acts out the way she does and where she gets it from. I find that refreshing and it keeps me rooting for her.
Declan....I can't get past the fact that the actor seems way out of his league. The character has proven to be a standup guy who, once he fell for this girl, has done nothing but be in his corner. When Charlotte discovered the truth about her father and was flipping out he tried her to get help. When she started doing drugs he tried to get her help. When she wouldn't go on her own he tried to force it to happen (the locker search.) When her mother discovered she was doing drugs she attacked Charlotte and accused her of hurting her brother's case. His reaction to what Charlotte did to the new girl was completely justified.
I have to agree with you on the corporate espionage thing. I'm having trouble seeing how they can expand the scope like that and stay with the Hamptons family shenanigans.
OMG!!! SO GOOD!!! I love this show!!! So Amanda coming back didn't surprise me too much, but I wasn't expecting her to be pregnant. I think it'll end up not being Jacks, or maybe that's just me hoping. I don't think Victoria was on the plane. I think she got off for some reason, or maybe that's me hoping again because I so LOVE to HATE her! haha. Poor Emily at the end but I really like her's and Nolan's friendship, and Nolan backing up the drive, AWESOME!!! I totally did not see her mother being alive coming. I'm really excited to see where this goes next season! =]
My random thoughts of the episode: I feel that this show is generally quite predictable but yet it's still addictive, that's what's amazing about it. The way things play out is actually what we're interested in seeing :) I agree with what most people have said; you could so tell that Emily's mother was somehow involved in all of this and still alive, since they barely mention her.Did anyone else find it silly of Emily to just simply let the white haired man go? I mean sure you didn't want to kill him, but at least tie him up or intimidate him or something so he won't further bother your plans, just don't let him go.... But because of that it's got me thinking.... Is it possible that he has ulterior motives and in some way helping Emily but she doesn't know it. I wonder who his employer is. Why do I get the feeling that Victoria's death was faked? Surely it's not that easy to get rid of her.I never really liked Daniel's character right from the beginning, and this episode just made me hate him even more, he truly has become a Grayson. I supposed he is now more interesting to watch, but can't say I really care what happens to him or to Ashley.Fake Amanda coming back pregnant was so out of nowhere. I thought the Japanese guy was dealing with her. Why would he let her go? Maybe he's reminding Emily to stay on track? So I guess Emily and Jack really are the endgame since they needed something to keep them apart. So sad that Charlotte resorted to pills. Here's hoping she doesn't die. Declan would feel so much guilt if she doesn't make it.Can't wait for the next season; "Let it play". Perfect words to end the season, loved the double meaning.
Ashley was the one who saw Jack and Emily. That's for the usefulness. Declan is the foil for Charlotte's pill addiction, and perhaps ultimately suicide. If he picked up, she would not be doing that with pills at the end. That's for his usefulness. Amanda and Jack were together. She ran away. She found out she was pregnant, she came back. What's contrived about that? Timeline fits, motivations fit. And you can see Jack isn't too glad either, but premise of any tragedy is that you have unexpected unavoidable consequences of past actions. The title of the show is 'Revenge'. And it was inspired by Count of Monte Cristo, one of the best straightforward revenge stories. A man was wronged he comes back 14 years later with no one recognizing him and conceives a plot to take down his adversaries, one by one. His former love has moved on with a marriage. She still loves him, and he at least partly loves her, but it doesn't work out. In that sense, Revenge mirrors the story it was inspired by. Nikita is a remake of a show that was remake of a movie that also had revenge in its heart. So, if you want to rename the show, both Revenge and Nikita would be called, respectively, Monte Cristo: Corporate Edition and Monte Cristo: Black Ops Edition.
I liked the finale. It was really good. As always Nolan-Emily duo didn't disappoint us. I love these two it feels like they're family. As to other things in the finale I was expecting Amanda to come back but preggers?
I really hope they make some way for Victoria to be alive because the show wouldn't be the same without her. Besides she's not that stupid to not see something like that coming so maybe she found a way to disappear so "Those" people would think she's dead. Please Victoria be alive!
And Ashley. She's a real opportunist. I bet she couldn't wait to find a way to tell Daniel about Jack and Emily. And now seeing Daniel and Emily are over I bet she has a plan to benefit from it. I think Ashley is the worst character on that show (on par with Lidia and Conrad).
I don't know why but I actualy like Charlote's character. I know that many people dislikes her but I sympathized with her in this episode.
Emily's mom connected to this case. Well that's a clifhanger I'm curious about.
See you next season Revenge. I can't wait till fall.
Oh and Florence, it was nice to hear you in another show I watch.
I was so glad to see Amanda when Emily went to Jack. I so dont want them together. Although I would like to see him reject her after knowing the truth.
I WANT M.STOWE NEXT SEASON! Lydia and all the others can die, but let Victoria live!
I was trying to see chemistry between Daniel and Ashley, but I didnt. I dont care about them hooking up.
I know theres still a couple finales out there I havent seen yet (Game Of Thrones, The Killing mostly) but I think when all the dust settles, this will be the BEST finale of the season.
As I said on twitter, long as the writers dont completely eff it up next season, the show should start strong. I really cant see any way they possibly cant have Emily AND Charlotte both looking for Revenge next year..... perhaps Em will finally tell her that shes her sister & they can wreak havoc together.Also.on the topic of Victoria. If you have watched this show with any attention span, you KNOW she isnt dead. Shes just too clever. She lived with Conrad long enough to know hes a scheming survivalist who will sell anyone out to stay on top. She knows he is in bed with known terrorists who are capable of taking down an aircraft. Conrad made the threat that if she got on the plane, it would be the last thing she does. Victoria wouldnt have left on that plane, shes too clever. She just let him THINK she was leaving on it.
The whole season I was so focused on David Clarke being alive (I hoped) that it didn't even occur to me that it may be his wife who was alive. It caught me off guard. And Victoria? I'm pretty sure she is alive. They would've probably made some sad scenes if she was really dead. And she can't die before finding out about Emily. Amanda? No suprises here. Even the pregnancy didn't shock me much. They needed something to devastate Emily. That did the job. I wonder if she still would have broke up with Daniel if she knew about it. And Daniel. I wonder if he slept with Ashley. It sure seemed that way. Charlotte? I'm not so sure about her being live. Her death would somehow make sense. But I hope not for the same reason as Victoria. She should meet her sister. (And it would make some awesome scenes next season when she tries to be sisters with Amanda next season who of course doesn't want it. It may go as far as revealing her identity. (I am not your sister!!)
Did this remind anyone else of Prison Break? Dead mum who's not actually dead & is really a part of some evil government conspiracy/coverup called "The Company"/"The Initiative".
Anyway, was an amazing end to an amazing season.
I'm thinking Vicki isn't really dead either but they'll hide her from us for a couple episodes so we think she is then BAM!! she'll start being awesomely bitch again. She's too smart to be tricked by Connie so easily.
I want to break something... and it's Amanda's neck. But still I believe in the end it's gonna be Emily/Jack, true love and stuff. Amanda is either faking or got knocked up a little too fast. With someone else. It has to be that wayyy.
I'm still waiting for Declan to make his purpose but havig a social climber like ashley arround for the Greyson family is actually very probable, and this kind of characters, like victoria, allways need pets, at least thist pets is good for complicating the storyline a little bit more. And for the sudden sexual atraction between Daniel and her, it's only fitting for someone like Ashley to move on to the next Grayson so she doesn't loose her place in that world
Nolan's Aunt Carol = Emily's mother? Nolan's Aunt Carol really Nolan's mother? 'cause Nolan and Emily have more than a passing resembalence...Nolan the father of Amanda's baby? or was stripper Amanda already preggers when she showed up in the Hamptons?Victoria lives, she took Conrad's warning seriously, but got rid of rival Lydia by not passing the warning along... Does Conrad have any feeling for Victoria? Why warn her? Or was he knowingly goading her to her death? What is Ashley's origin story? Is she part of the larger plot to bring down the Graysons?Charlotte lives, comatose so we can have some good Declan self-blame scenes? This sets up more Grayson revenge against Jack and Declan?
"Ashley was the one who saw Jack and Emily. That's for the usefulness"
That's NOT usefulness. That's finding a way to shoehorn a character into the story. They could have used just about anyone to see Jack and Emily kiss.
"She ran away. She found out she was pregnant, she came back. What's contrived about that?"
She was shot in the abdomen and was taken out of town by Takeda. For those two reasons alone, there's no way it makes any sense for the character to show up out of the blue with no fear whatsoever. It's contrived.
If Revenge is aiming to make Ashley into the remorseless social-climbing lackey in the Grayson's camp, I wish the show would play it up more. At least that would give the character a unique voice on the show. They started to go that way with Ashley when Tyler was around but they backed off quite a bit.
"I have to point out that your contempt and dislike of the Graysons...might be considered a point for the writers."
- Daniel is the least of the Grayson problem for me because this is a gradual evolution of the character. - My problem with Charlotte isn't what she's doing or what she's going through, it's that the writers have been banging the same drum with her for the entire second half of the season. - Conrad is a one-note, amoral scumbag. There's nothing more to him than that and the writers have never attempted to show otherwise. There's no character depth at all.
Since we're going into season two with Emily having a big, shiny, new target to go after (The Initiative) it seems unnecessary to make the entire Grayson family so uniformly awful.
"Just Ashley's kind of target."
If they're trying to make Ashley into that kind of shady opportunist, I wish Revenge would just pull the trigger on it. It would make her character much more interesting.
I see your reasoning. I'll reserve my final judgement until season 2, and wait to see if they explain Amanda's return in a plausible fashion, and to see what becomes of Ashley (essentially a female and more rational version of Tyler)
I agree, they at least planted a seed of that way back when Ashley told Tyler (I am paraphrasing) that she has more in mind than planning weddings. She is stable, calculated, seems to know what she is doing and everyone is underestimating her (which could prove to be a big advantage).
IT WAS SO LAME...IT NEEDS CRUTCHES...I WASTED 22 HOURS OF MY LIFE, JUST TO GO BACK TO SQUARE ONE...ALMOST AS BAD AS THE FIRST SEASON FINALE OF THE KILLING!
"- My problem with Charlotte isn't what she's doing or what she's going through, it's that the writers have been banging the same drum with her for the entire second half of the season."
Ah. Okay, I can completely see your point.
Hopefully, you're be proven right and they'll expand on the Grayson family and balance them out a little more. I think the bigger villain strategy was necessary at the beginning of season one, but I think you're right that its time to even it out more.
I don't think Ashley was a real character until Daniel got arrested. Before then she seemed to me to be more of a plot device than a character. I get the impression that the plan is to pull that trigger.
Altough they went with the classic "mum's alive" cliffhanger, I really liked the episode. It was a pleasure to watch and I hope the 2nd season will be as good as or even better than the 1st one, And as much as I love Madeleine Stowe's work on the show and the character of Victoria, I hope the writers have enough guts and won't make a "she's alive" twist next season.
Subtle things are good too you know, not everything needs to be so obvious all the time, things that grow or transform slowly usually make shows a lot better
About Ashely, the sexual tension was very out of the blue, agreed with that. But overall I have liked her characterization, she does everything for power, and I want to see how her alliance with Conrad and Daniel plays out; I really want to see them as some sorts of unholy trinity now that Victoria is like a third corner or dead.
Subtle would be fine but that's not what they did with Ashley. As soon as Tyler was gone the show dropped any sort of character development that Ashley had built.
Between the time Tyler was killed and the finale, any characterization that Ashley had was dropped and she was relegated to being a nondescript space-filler. It's almost like they forgot the character existed for eight consecutive episodes.
The show is called Revenge and she lets her father's murderer go? Maybe they should rethink the title of the show, or look at the dictionary for the meaning of revenge.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I CANT BREATHEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteOne of the best season finales I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteDecent finale. It was quite the mixed bag.

ReplyDeleteWOWZA. That episode was, um, totally epic and amazing? I just want more now.
I don't want Victoria (or Lydia) to be dead. Kill off Daniel or Declan; my least two favorite characters.
Hate to admit it, but I still love Charlotte. Don't want her to be dead.
So her mom is alive? That's DEFINITELY going to be interesting.
I'm so excited for ABC Sundays, especially now that Revenge will be airing then.
THIS PEOPLE KNOW HOW TO GIVE YOU A SEASON FINALE DON'T THEY?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the best finale this year but am I the only one who thought the build up in the last scene was kind of a bit over done? I mean I pretty much assumed from the first time they brought up the fact that her mother was dead that she was alive and tied into this.

ReplyDeleteI completely disagree. Characters like Declan and Ashley serve little to no purpose whatsoever.

ReplyDeleteMy random thoughts of the episode: I feel that this show is generally quite predictable but yet it's still addictive, that's what's amazing about it.
ReplyDeleteAshley was the one who saw Jack and Emily.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I disliked about the episode is how naked Emily left herself by not killing the white haired man, big mistake from her part.
ReplyDeleteBesides that, this episode was perfection!
I liked the finale. It was really good. As always Nolan-Emily duo didn't disappoint us. I love these two it feels like they're family. As to other things in the finale I was expecting Amanda to come back but preggers?
ReplyDeleteI really hope they make some way for Victoria to be alive because the show wouldn't be the same without her.
I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI was so glad to see Amanda when Emily went to Jack.
And Nolan was the best! Love him <3
She might be alive, but her causing the plane to blow up? NO!
ReplyDeleteYou can clearly see that that assassin sabotages the plane.
I know theres still a couple finales out there I havent seen yet (Game Of Thrones, The Killing mostly) but I think when all the dust settles, this will be the BEST finale of the season.
ReplyDeleteAs I said on twitter, long as the writers dont completely eff it up next season, the show should start strong.
ReplyDeleteDid this remind anyone else of Prison Break? Dead mum who's not actually dead & is really a part of some evil government conspiracy/coverup called "The Company"/"The Initiative".
ReplyDeleteAnyway, was an amazing end to an amazing season.
I'm thinking Vicki isn't really dead either but they'll hide her from us for a couple episodes so we think she is then BAM!! she'll start being awesomely bitch again. She's too smart to be tricked by Connie so easily.
OMG OMG OMG!!!! AWESOMEEEEEEEEE
ReplyDeleteI want to break something... and it's Amanda's neck.
ReplyDeleteBut still I believe in the end it's gonna be Emily/Jack, true love and stuff.
And for the sudden sexual atraction between Daniel and her, it's only fitting for someone like Ashley to move on to the next Grayson so she doesn't loose her place in that world
ReplyDeletePure speculation and questions :
ReplyDeleteNolan's Aunt Carol = Emily's mother?
Nolan's Aunt Carol really Nolan's mother? 'cause Nolan and Emily have more
than a passing resembalence...Nolan the father of Amanda's baby? or was stripper Amanda already preggers when she showed up in the Hamptons?Victoria lives, she took Conrad's warning seriously, but got rid of rival Lydia by not passing the warning along...
ReplyDeleteThat's NOT usefulness.
ReplyDelete"I have to point out that your contempt and dislike of the Graysons...might be considered a point for the writers."
ReplyDelete- Daniel is the least of the Grayson problem for me because this is a gradual evolution of the character.
ReplyDeleteMaking Ashley a sane version of Tyler is probably the best thing that Revenge could do with that character.
ReplyDeleteI agree, they at least planted a seed of that way back when Ashley told Tyler (I am paraphrasing) that she has more in mind than planning weddings. She is stable, calculated, seems to know what she is doing and everyone is underestimating her (which could prove to be a big advantage).
ReplyDeleteIT WAS SO LAME...IT NEEDS CRUTCHES...I WASTED 22 HOURS OF MY LIFE, JUST TO GO BACK TO SQUARE ONE...ALMOST AS BAD AS THE FIRST SEASON FINALE OF THE KILLING!
ReplyDeleteI DISAGREE
ReplyDelete"- My problem with Charlotte isn't what she's doing or what she's going through, it's that the writers have been banging the same drum with her for the entire second half of the season."
ReplyDeleteAh.
It was a pleasure to watch and I hope the 2nd season will be as good as or even better than the 1st one,
ReplyDeleteAnd as much as I love Madeleine Stowe's work on the show and the character of Victoria, I hope the writers have enough guts and won't make a "she's alive" twist next season.
Takeda as the baby daddy? I'd love to see Jack's face when his baby comes out looking slightly Japanese ;p
ReplyDeleteOMG! What about a flashback to Victoria jumping out of the plane with a parachute just before it explodes, that would be fantastic!
ReplyDeleteSubtle things are good too you know, not everything needs to be so obvious all the time, things that grow or transform slowly usually make shows a lot better
ReplyDeleteAbout Ashely, the sexual tension was very out of the blue, agreed with that. But overall I have liked her characterization, she does everything for power, and I want to see how her alliance with Conrad and Daniel plays out; I really want to see them as some sorts of unholy trinity now that Victoria is like a third corner or dead.
ReplyDeleteSubtle would be fine but that's not what they did with Ashley. As soon as Tyler was gone the show dropped any sort of character development that Ashley had built.
ReplyDeleteBetween the time Tyler was killed and the finale, any characterization that Ashley had was dropped and she was relegated to being a nondescript space-filler. It's almost like they forgot the character existed for eight consecutive episodes.
ReplyDeleteThe show is called Revenge and she lets her father's murderer go? Maybe they should rethink the title of the show, or look at the dictionary for the meaning of revenge.
