Alright, we've seen pre-beat-up Ben, and we've now seen recovering-from-beat-up Ben. How much longer before we actually see him get beaten up? It's just so strange watching Michael Emerson, and he's not constantly bleeding from somewhere on his face.
Did anyone else see Reese (and his beard) in the hospital and feel the desire to say "We have to go back to the island!" like I did? XD
Flashback Reese-beard and flashback/flash forward Shephard-beard could be beard brothers!
It would be a pain to be on the run from a US Marshall! Ugh!
I'm really tired of conflicted Carter! She got in with Team Machine knowing what Reese did and yet every time something morally grey or outside the normal legal means comes up she takes issue with it. It's old. She needs to stop doing the Hokey Pokey and either keep her foot in the circle or back the hell out for good.
I really was not positive how the NOTW (Number of the Week) would play out until the end. At first I thought that it might be a set-up to get a location on Reese by investigative Agent Donnelly or his ex-partner DIA Agent Snow etc.... Was just an odd feeling and not on base as it turns out. I liked seeing a bit more into Reese's past and the flashbacks linked up nicely with the NOTW's plot too! Interesting (and sad) to think that Jessica probably was a number from the machine before Finch found Reese.... Also really interesting to know that Reese maybe has not been killing all of the bad guys but sending them to foreign prisons where they will not get out or play our US legal system to their advantage!
Loved seeing Finch having contact with Reese back before they worked together! It certainly adds some layers of context to the entire series.
Awesome episode. But I always feel that way with each new POI episode. ;)
I had a feeling Jess was being beat by her husband and that her death was related to it last episode when she kept calling John. She was scared. :( It really makes me sad.
Loved that it was Harold that John bumped into though, and the gift.
I deleted it right after I watched it, but I'm pretty sure it went like this... Reese, in a daze, is walking out and bumps into "the man in the wheelchair" who says, "I'm sorry." (Sorry for bumping into you)
Then the "man in the wheelchair" does a double take on Reese as he realizes it's the guy from his "Number" file. He turns and we see it's Finch and then he looks in his folder, realizes that it is in fact Reese and says, "I'm so sorry" (This time meaning he was sorry he could not stop Jessica from dying)
The quotes may not be exact, but that's the gist of the scene.
So many answers! Jessica's death, Peter's involvement, Carter realizing Reese is human and is capable of love, Reese's possible real last name (starting with an H?), Finch in a wheelchair (possibly post-surgery?), his first "encounter" with Reese, even though he was already looking for him... You can tell we're gearing up towards an explosive season finale!
I'm assuming next week we'll learn what happened to Ingram, and the season finale will tie up other loose ends (maybe Root's identity?), and the next season will have a new batch of questions. It seems like Kara's interrogation of Snow will not be revisited this season, so it's probably a season two storyline.
Overall, fantastic episode. I love the friendship between Finch and Reese! (Feese? Rinch?)
It was nice for Carter to see Reese is not all back ops killer, but I do wonder if that will even slow her inner conflict about working with Team Machine...
Oh yeah, I prefer Team Machine ot Feese or Rinch... I just don't like the combo name shipper thing I guess. XD
The pacing this season has been pretty good, but it has been perfect the last handful of episodes! It has been a series of little mini-finales tying up various season arcs.
Excellent episode. Great revelations about Jessica (I think she is alive, maybe), Reese. I really like Carter find out the true about Reese past, maybe is the last signal for her trust more in the Team Machine. I love the guest star in the episode Dagmara, she so beautiful, i'm in love for her hahaaha.
With this show, I think we need another option labelled "mind-blowing" .. This was beyond AWESOME .. I knew the guy Reese bumped into was Harold 'coz of his voice and his "mousy" hair xD
I liked Carter digging into Reese's past & finding that (heart-breaking) photo of him & Jessica. I think she's gonna give it to him <333 as for Reese's backstory, one word, TEARS.. that left me in tears.. & the apartment Harold gave him & the look on Reese's face as he was looking through the window, ALL THE FEELS <333
I loooooooooved Harold's "So if I were to speculate as to the reason of your laboured breathing detective.." Fusco: "I lost her" Harold: "that would be it" that made me LOL!
a cell in Mexico that's what disappearance means in Reese's book xD
so the chronology would be ---> Jessica died on Nov/Dec of '10 ('coz the flashback was on Feb), I would assume that Harold's accident happened around the same time (prob trying to save a POI/Ingram)..
Frankly, I haven't even though of the island. So much for withdrawal...I did rewatch entire LOST couple of months ago, but as time goes by that capital I became just an ordinary I. As for POI this was probably the best episode of the season, or right up there with usual-suspectesque 3x07
that's exactly how it went Darque. Finch opened that folder & it had John, Jessica and Peter's pictures & socials.. and i was floored.. it could have gone either way that Finch had known but did nothing/couldn't stop it.. or that he really didn't know at the time only later when looking for a partner.
So.. powerful.. that by failing to save her, Finch also found the partner he needed to save others.. i think that John's vengeance on Peter was covered up some by Finch as he decides maybe he could use John... give him a purpose.. i bet Finch saw the whole thing on a hidden camera in Peter's home.
I think the call from the jail and finding out he doesn't kill these guys went a lot further in gaining Carter's trust than finding out about Jessica... it was nice that she got the history she wanted then destroyed it.. good for her.
Another good one. I liked hoe Reese past danced around his birthday. The minute Reese hit that guy in the WHEEL CHAIR, I knew it had to be Finch! (I love BR!) I thought it was great that everyone was left to believe that Finch was going to kill that Marshall (again nice sudo parallels to Alias with Karen GARNER and Lost with Kate and E. Mars--If that guy could have married Kate, he would have!). I like the build up that everyone thought that Reese would kill the guy, but instead, he framed him, and had him locked away!
I also felt a deeper connection to Carter in this episode. She really is in a touch place dancing around both CIA, FBI, and HR.
Going back to the previous episode...I still am on the fence with Kara Stanton, but part of me thinks she could be good and they both were REALLY set up by Snow, while the other part of me wonders if she could really be bad? --I def the software virus and the mass murder in China relates to Nathan and Finch's former company...and I see some kind of clash down the road!
Between all of these and what ever is going to happen with Elias, I have to say that J. Nolan and his company of writers have done a great great great job at building all these plots simultaneously!
I loved how Finch was the one Reese ran into at the hospital. That he already was on to him even back then, I loved how everyone thought Reese was going to kill the Marshall but instead framed him in a Mexican Jail. Too Funny!
What a great episode. Reese softer side was amazing. aww Carter finally finding out about Reese and Jessica even though she's a little jelly. My favorite part is when Reese put Finch in the car.
ooo so Finch knew jessica was going to die and did notthing to stop her because...well from what it looked like with him in that wheelchair he couldnt. And i hope the next seasons explains what happend to Finch with his legs because he doesnt limp in past scenes so he must've gotten hurt. And once reese finds out about this he's going to be PIST. finding out your boss and friend knew jess was going to die and doing nothing even with bad legs is going to tear their friendship big time. Although I agree with Finch back then he couldnt do anything as he didnt have reese to do it.
i like that. Team Machine: Finch, Reese, Carter and Fusco along with occaisional help from people like Zoe. Against Team Villains: Elias (their arch enemy), Agent Snow (Reese's nemesis) and Root (Finch's nemesis). 1 down two to go and i hope Root comes back soon i'd like to find out who she is!
i'm very intrigued to discover Finch's past as well... maybe next week when someone is going after ingram's son b/c of the machine we'll get to explore it more.. i've always theorized that Finch watched the irrelevant #'s for a long time despite seeming pretty blase' about them.. and then him or Ingram come up and he tries to stop it maybe even in some way is responsible for the whole mess, & ingram dies, he's injured.. govt takes control of the machine.. Finch's reason to live is to make good use of the machine he built.. and he begins to try to do it himself, with his money.. hiring people to help but no one he trusts or can really do the job until the machine gives him john's #.. But i didn't think it's be connected to jess' # coming up.. thought it would be straight up govt betrayed him threat..
each of the last episodes have topped the previous and this is by far the best yet. This shows how Finch caught on to Reese as a possible Machine Teammate? I am guessing Finch had been investigating Jessica's number but was too late, and then he came across Reese and thought "Hey, why not hire him?". I know there is more connection b/w them, the chinese engineers who were probably working on the machine's code were killed and Reese was sent to confirm that can't be just a coincidence, not to a show that plans on making a lot more seasons.
The story for this episode is credited to Jonathan Nolan, not the screenplay. I am sure this episode was decided before the pilot was written which explains that. The voice over in the first scene of the first episode comes back...So, we can assume he won't come back in the capacity of a screenwriter until the season finale.
POI has carved it's own individual niche in my mind now. I don't think about LOST comparisons anymore. To me, what reminded me of Lost, at least in hindsight, is the Reese-Finch contact before they met in the pilot. Sort of takes me back to all the off-island contact between 815 survivors that we saw over the years.
I agree it has evolved quite nicely and is now its own entity separate from LOST. I don't think of POI as LOST-like or really think of the series other than certain looks Emerson gives time to time. Mostly it was just the bad beard and mustache... I wonder if they used the same make-up artist as the one that was responsible for bearded flashback Jack on LOST?
At one point Finch was only interested in making money, but something changed that. Here's my theory: Ingram was the one with the conscience and argued with Finch about the irrelevant list. Then Ingram's number comes up and Finch has no idea what to do, but after Ingram's death he know he can no longer be passive about the list. When the next number comes up, he tries to strike out, but isn't good at being physical and ends up in a wheel chair. Of course, Jessica is one of those whose numbers keeps coming up over and over, so hers was the next number and it was Peter Arndt that put Finch in the wheelchair.
I also believe the machine is self aware, and its prime directive is self preservation. The numbers aren't random, the machine has a reason for putting certain numbers at the top of the list, and wanted Finch to hire Reese. Comments?
That is probable, and maybe Finch had an accident while rushing to help Jessica, why Finch was hospitalize in that hospital, which is near Jessica 's home?
That was really interesting. Love that everyone's so certain that Reese murdered these guys and he delivered them to justice - of a sort. Carter's quest in New Rochelle seemed kind of like filler of sorts. Filler isn't the right word because that part of the story helped fill us in on important underlying elements of the story but, it felt to me like left Carter on the back burner...she was too reactive. I like it better when she's driving things more.
Beyond that though I thought it was a great ep. That final image kinda blew my mind. :-)
"I also believe the machine is self aware, and its prime directive is self preservation."
i totally agree with this statement.. since it flagged Ingram for knowing too much about how it works and he cracked wise about its power.. I also think it's worried about John and some of the numbers are to put him closer & closer to danger/getting caught..
Am late to the party, but yeah: Got a big LOST vibe with the flashbacks and the unknowingly fated meetings á la Jack-Shannon. I wonder when we might get the SSN 4815162342. Or is that too long/short? :D
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Alright, we've seen pre-beat-up Ben, and we've now seen recovering-from-beat-up Ben. How much longer before we actually see him get beaten up? It's just so strange watching Michael Emerson, and he's not constantly bleeding from somewhere on his face.
ReplyDeleteThe return of the steel wool beard - ACK!
ReplyDeleteFinch at a sports bar?!?! XD

what was that last thing finch said at the end? I hate when shows do that and u cant completely understand what the characters say
ReplyDeleteI hope CBS uploads the clip on their website or youtube cause I didn't quite hear it either, but heard something that included 'sorry' back at John.

This was an incredibly good episode! The writers keep pulling out new and different story lines. I love it!
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode of this week. We have seen the soft side of Reese!

ReplyDeleteYeah I was really impressed with her in this episode!
ReplyDeletethis episode was amazing finch and reese cross path & finch help him find some piece and the end is ok reese remind in control

ReplyDeletePOI Story lines are Fantastic, Kudos to
