That was kind of a disappointing send off for Robert California. I find it odd that David Wallace is back in charge again, I don't really like the backwords direction it seems to be going it, I feel like they undid everything they did this season.
- The cold open was a little uncomfortable given the nature of certain things that have been in the news.
- Jim and Dwight were the high point, particularly Jim ripping off Dwight's clothing and then fearing for his children's safety to which Pam acted as the voice of reason.
- Andy's reinstatement was very underwhelming and unsatisfying. Everything about it just stinks to me. I'm crazy, okay, but I liked Nellie more as they used her and this episode was probably her best in terms of her portrayal. I'm unsure why they're making her have a zany position since people like that less about her and seemed to appreciate her personal moments.
- RC went out in a flash, good ending for him.
- Baby's definitely Dwight's.
- Erin is very unlikable now. Maybe it's because she's a schemer with Dwight, but she's lost the playful innocence that made her a fun addition to the cast.
Not a totally hilarious episode but I did like that David Wallace is back in charge, Andy is manager again, James Spader is gone, and that they pretty much confirmed that Val would go for Daryl, the baby is Dwight's, and the senator has the hots for Oscar (although all those were really obvious).
Also thought Gabe's little birthday thing or whatever was pretty funny and Erin is adorable as always.
Only thing I really didn't like was the fact that Nellie might stick around.
The Jim/Dwight stuff was the only thing that really made the episode interesting. The fear in Jim's eyes when he, Pam, and the kids were getting their portrait taken reminded me of the snowball fight from... well, whatever season that was. I also may have laughed uncontrollably when Mose (as Dwight) got out of the car Angela was chasing hahaha..
The Andy stuff was blah, and the whole finale was pretty unimpressive overall. The cold open was downright awkward. I'm not sorry to see Robert California go, and I hope that Sabre being liquidated means we can get rid of Gabe. I was glad to see David Wallace again, though. I always liked him.
Interesting developments that will have ramifications for the future.... decent ep but somewhat underwhelming as parts were really off, particularly the Andy "delicious moments" scheme felt like they wrote "Andy doing something that Micheal Scott would've done, but with less effect and less laughs than Micheal would've gotten" to me... and the Robert C write off felt pretty lame. I will say that for pretty much loathing Catherine Tate's Nellie for most of the season, the "way dialed back written version" of the character over the last couple of eps have been decent and the "Go away skeleton man!" retort to Gabe was pretty funny. Again, the Jim/Dwight parts are the strongest part of the show for me and they need to enhance that or really strengthen the writing of the other characters to keep pace going forward if that's possible....

NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Really, that was it? I wasn't excited for this finale, and now I know why. I'm only in this show for Jim and Pam now.
ReplyDeleteThe baby is so Dwight's. Ugh at Erin.

ReplyDeleteHave to agree on everything you said.

ReplyDeletePretty bad and boring like the majority of the season
ReplyDeleteRemember when The Office finales were the thing to look forward to....?
