Damn, I LOVED this episode! But honestly: Bruno Heller is the most brilliant of con men... I can't believe how he TOTALLY fooled the fans, the sneaky little rascal :D!
So Chriqui is not in fact a love interest, but a "disciple" of RJ? Seriously? And here I thought that Jane might have some time with a woman who isn't somehow connected to that guy.
Oh well, it looks like the writers are finally getting serious about a Jisbon hookup sometime in the near future. They've shown soooo little interest in that.
this was the best episode of the series so far the actress who play lorelay creap me out ,speaks, the face ,hair, body walks, manerims like a doppleganger of nina dobrev of vampire diaries wooow really scary & the end the weak & childish director dead was ok because the character was a waste of time
you think that was purposefully give to Jisbon fans after the pissed off comments about Lorelai?? 'coz I'm starting to think that .. but I don't care, long overdue Mentalist writers LOL :D
So that goes back to my suspicions that either jane himself is red john (with some sort of multiple personality disorder) or that its lisbon or someone in that team.
I found something VERY Interesting this episode. The very last scene. Jane's behavior there. Lisbon was very uncomfortable with how he was tehre. And I agree.
Jane might have PRETENDED and all, but from all this little plan he did come a changed and darker man. THere's something very...different about him.
No, I don't think so- the scripts are written far in advance, and it is obvious to me that Heller threw the cat among the pidgeons with his spoilers- he WANTED the fans to get upset and probably had a good laugh about the heated discussions. I'm wondering if he planned to deepen the Jane/Lisbon-relationship all along... I don't think they will be a couple anytime soon (and I think I prefer the teasing very much to the done deal), but he always placed hints here and there, and what happened in this episode has been pretty clear: Lisbon is still the most important person in his life. I can't wait to see where this will be going next season.
okay! you convinced me .. that man is so manipulative I can picture him laughing as you said xD but yeah I prefer the teasing too & can't wait to see where this going in S5 .. (& I thought I'd more interested in POI's finale by now xD)
I don't think he was the mole, just a toy/victim for Red John. He still has a mole inside the FBI. After Darcy found out it wasn't Risby who was shot she called the FBI. No doubt the mole alerted RJ and now know about Jane's try to catch him.
that might be it! but I thought he was the mole 'coz he told her about Lisbon covering for Jane that's why I thought he was the mole, but that means someone in the FBI is working for RJ, and for some reason I don't think it's Darcy, even though they can make her the mole..
I downloaded the episode to watch it, and at the end there was the usual "stay tuned for scenes from our next episode". However, it was the season finale and normally there isn't a promo until August. My question is for someone who watched it on CBS: was there a promo at the end of the episode?
Please Mentalist writers whatever you do, DO NOT put Lisbon and Jane together. We all know when leads get together in a show such as this, it's doomed and cancellation will by nigh. Don't give in to the rabid shippers. I can't believe I was just about to give up on this show and then they pulled me back in. But with it being on Sundays now, I not sure how this will all shake out. Sunday has a lot of competition. But I will try to watch or at the very least download the latest episode.
The file available to download (at least the first one) is from CTV, that's the one with the "Stayed tune" at the end, when CBS broadcasted it there wasn't voiceover.
He baited RJ and it almost worked. It's the FBI mole who tipped him about Jane double game.
I think Jane views his move as a win and is reinforced in his conviction that he can trap R. See how determined he was when he walked out of the interrogation room at the end?
Let's hope we will see that determination again next season. Patrick need to think more "out of the box" to catch RJ
How can you say that? The moonlighting curse is long dead. If the writing is good enough getting the leads together can happen. Chuck is a good example of that. They got their leads together the show did not suffer at all. I even got better, Another show is Pysch. Those leads are getting together and the show has not suffered at all. It is still as funny and irreverent as ever, So if Jane and Lisbon get together it is not the end of the series!
RJ cant be Jane, but what I want to know is if RJ is actually someone we have seen on the show, even if it was just once or twice. If it is a new character then we have no idea who it is.
This is why i concluded that Darcy isn't the mole.. but what if RJ told her.. play your part, arrest them (to delay them) listen to them & 'help' them go after RJ, shoot up the limo it's okay b/c i won't be there.. would explain her shock that it's wainwright (didn't know who the decoy would be) and help remove suspicion she's the mole..
For the record, i don't the she's the mole, i think we're supposed to think she is though..
I knew from the promo that Lorelei worked with RJ and it was obvious that Jane was faking his breakdown, but I was glued to the screen from start to finish anyway. Jane ruse to trap RJ was an awesome move, and it shows again how Patrick is determined to reach his goal.
Some random thoughts:
Loved the philosophical conversation about right and wrong. I bet Jane didn't lie. For Jane, there is no right or wrong, there is only revenge.
Laughed at Jane little "ho noes!" complete with the whining face when the guy say: "Well, Mervin is going break your arms and the legs... And the trick with the match in Vegas when Jane faced his two unhappy customers was cool. I bet Jane had to run more than a few times at the beginning of his conman "career"
RJ offer sex as a gift to Patrick. How twisted is that?
Patrick let Lisbon in the dark for six months and she still has is back. He better offer her strawberries each week until the end of the show ;-)
Loved Lisbon remark: "how does faking a breakdown--if that's what you're really doing-- because it looks pretty real to me, ..." She is reminding him that for her it was real, but I think she also hint that she isn't duped by the brave face Jane put on every day. Jane is constantly on the edge. He could break at any point. It's only is steely resolve for vengeance and Lisbon's friendship that keep him from becoming the broken man he was "playing" in Vegas.
Jane baby, you'd better watch your back next season. RJ offered the hand of friendship and you just bit it. As lorelei said, He is going to be upset. Same goes for Lisbon, RJ knows she is Jane weak spot. If he wants to push back after Jane little stunt, he could very well target her. Hope Heller won't take that road, Lisbon is not the damsel in distress in this show, Jane is.
Perfect ending. Not a clifhanger, but the worried look of Lisbon tell us everything. Jane is on a dark path and is (almost) victory will only reinforce is resolve.
Please mister Heller, could we have a little less fillers and a little more juicy episodes like this one?
Lisbon: "You son of a bitch." Jane: "Okay, we are in a church." :-D
I think Lisbon was uncomfortable because she sees Jane dark determination to catch Red John. She knows about it, Jane plainly told her he will kill RJ instead of catching him, but I think she sort of deny it.
Seeing Jane with his mask off perturbs her because she is the leader team and responsible if Jane kills RJ instead of letting her arrest him. She is mostly perturbed because Jane is her friend and you don't like to watch your friend going on a dark and destructive path.
Jane isn't RJ, but the more he let his need for revenge drive him, the more he becomes like RJ. Lisbon see that.
i think if jane and lisbon ever get togheter its gonna be more like the sarah and grisson type of thing not like castle and beckett they will be a more reserved couple ''if that heppens'' was a good episode i don't think darcy is the fbi mole i think when she called that guy for the warrants the mole find out and told red john !!!
1. The writers do sure love their telling. All telling and no showing. We know that Lisbon missed Jane, there’s even a few moments where she mentions it, but it would have been nice to see it. You know, more scenes where it’s affecting her. Likewise with Jane, especially more so, it would have been nice to see. He missed his best friend, even expected her to know where he was without even telling her, thinking she bailed him out of jail, yet we never really see him miss her. Or, hell, even the rest of his group. A few scenes with him acknowledging this quietly to himself would have been nice. 2. Jane mentions how he doesn’t even regret killing the man who he thought was Red John, even after knowing the truth. Great, introspective!Jane. We’ll see more into his complex, morally ambiguous psyche—No, forget that. We’ll just move along. Then he mentions he loves Lisbon. Surely they’ll explore this one when she questions him about it—Oh, forget that, moving along. The writers go too damn fast. Not even a “Of course I love you, Lisbon. You’re family” or a “Of course I love you. In fact, I’m going to bend you over this table and have my way with you as Rigsby watches.”
3. Even though I knew that this was all an elaborate scam on Jane’s end, I was still disappointed that we never got to see jane fall to pieces. It would have been interesting.
4. Jane had great chemistry with Lauralei. Jesus. For that brief time in the beginning, where they were acting all couple-y, there was a nice easygoingness about that relationship. It was a new and intriguing side of Jane that we really haven’t seen before. Of course then she has to drop the whole “I’m working with Red John and he wants to be your bestie lol” shit on him. That disappointed me too. I really like this relationship and wanted more.
5. Even though some people complain that the Lisbon/Jane thing never really progresses, I disagree. There was a point where she never would have allowed Jane to touch her, or to even open up to him. Now she’s holding him and his hand. The next logical step? They need to get a Best Friends Forever ring and sing the song, ala SpongeBob and Patrick. IT'S THE BEST FRIENDS FOREVER, BEST FRIENDS FOREVER RING. It’s pretty obvious how much they adore one another. And I know some fans will be pissed about how Jane left Lisbon in agony for six months, but I know that in an instant, despite Jane's many flaws, Jane will always pick Lisbon over his mad hatter quest for Red John. He already did, back in season one, when he killed Dumar, not knowing if he’d ever get another chance to get to Red John ever again--for all he knew at that time--he shot him dead to save Lisbon. No hesitation. No thinking. Because they’ll choose each other always. Lisbon is Jane’s home. No matter how selfish Jane can be, no matter how stubborn and righteous Lisbon is. They are each other’s besties.
6. Speaking of which, I find it hard to believe that Lisbon wasn’t the least bit suspicious. 8+ years with Jane and she didn’t think, even for a minute, that he might be running some complex, stupid plan? Like always? It would have been swell if the writers had added in a scene with Lisbon on her phone, leaving a message for Jane, threatening him with bodily harm if it all turned out to be a ruse to get Red John. She’s a detective. Come on.
7. Wainwright’s dead. Yeah, I don’t care either. Maybe if he had been expanded on more as a character?
8. This episode went too friggin’ fast. It should have been more than an hour. 9. I think it would have been awesome if Red John took Jane in the end. Lisbon and team could have spent the beginning of the next season trying to find him.
10 how long before Red John goes after Lisbon?
Yeah. Overall, it was predictable and too fast, but parts of this episode were just too damned awesome. Too bad those parts weren't expanded on. Oh well. I didn't expect much.
Fantastic ep... wow, between Morena Baccarin's con woman and Emanuelle C's RJ accolyte, Jane sure does court some hot psychos.... I realize that the RJ thing is the supreme mythology that most likely wont be solved until the series finale, but I kinda wish that they don't keep dragging the plot on as it kinda gets tiring for me anyway and wish that they open up some new plotlines... but in any case this was a very entertaining ep.
"I find it hard to believe that Lisbon wasn't the least bit suspicious"
Good point. I'm also believing that, even if Jane didn't respond to her calls, she would have kept an eye on him. Like you say, she is a cop, she doesn't need to personally stalk him, just ask coworkers from Vegas to keep her informed.
I disagree about your first point. The episode was perfectly paced. Some things are better left to the viewer's imagination
About Jane killing a man: introspective!Jane should have happened during this season. That's my biggest disappointment this season.
About the "I love you": Maybe Jane tested her by pretending he didn't remember, Lisbon backed off so he dropped the thing. Or jane doesn't allow himself to be happy until RJ is killed and he pushed Lisbon to say the words out loud, knowing very well she would back off.
The second hypothesis is my favorite.
Would have love to see jane Kidnapped by RJ at the end, because hello, Jane not in control of the game, that would be new!
This is real randomness but what I thought was really cool was when he was talking to what he thought was RJ in the mirror, there was bling red light on the dashboard. Deliberate call back to "Blinking Red Light" episode, when he was sort of talking to RJ via camera? ;)
About Jane's murder introspection and the whole right and wrong speech, I am sure it was just Jane committing to his role as he has been for the last 6 months.
Jane remembers EVERYTHING! He definitely remembers exactly what he told her. I am sure Red John will target Lisbon next. They are still not willing to move on Red John that fast, so no kidnapping yet. and what the fuck? Red John has ANOTHER friend in the FBI? Grace's fiance was also FBI!!
I gotta admit, I all but knew that the finale would be a huge disappointment, but it wasn't. But looking at the last scene, there was a sense of "Didn't we see all this in Season 2, episode 8, His Red Right Hand?" They should have thought of something new! We know that Red John can get Lorelei killed! he has done it all before!
But considering Lorelei (is that how to spell her name? I have no idea) is a recurring role next season, I am guessing Jane finds a way to keep her out of Red John's reach somehow (I want an explanation how he can do that too).
And Limousine, I had my doubts but now it's confirmed, Red John's loaded!!!
One last thing. Jane has over the years pulled some nasty stunts. The last season finale murder of someone who was not Red John was huge and yet they let him back in the CBI and now he conspires with the CBI team to fake a murder within the HQ? That's just too much. I can't believe that Jane can still be welcomed back to CBI. If this had happened in real life, the whole team would be suspended and Jane would not be welcome in the CBI again! But I am sure that it won't happen and they'll all go back to normal in just 1 episode. That's the sad part. There is so much drama they can dig into there, but they just won't.
When I saw Castle, I was like, ah, just a copy of Mentalist. Female cop, quirky consultant, a longer over arching story about the murder of a family member. But Castle has really beaten Mentalist in quality storytelling over the years while Mentalist started out as a really unique, well written and well acted show with a perspective like no other procedural, it has been on a downward trajectory since season 2.
If it is someone, it has to be someone who is just as old as, or older than, Jane. Male. One Person. Of course, they might turn the tables in the end and say it's a girl or 2 people of something like that, but I doubt it.
I also feel that there could be a past connection to Jane, probably when he was with the carnival crowd.
I am all but sure that Red John and Bret Stiles share a common history, seeing how they have similar brainwashing and cult forming capabilities. But I am sure it's not Bret Stiles; being Bret Stiles and running Visualize is a full time job and Red John is someone who dedicates his life to his "higher path".
I had doubts for a while that it could be Minelli and I don't know, it's quite possible that it IS him. It's certainly not someone from the CBI team, unless it's Lisbon.
Chuck always suffered in ratings, so it's not a good example for the fall of a show, cuz it never really was successful after a point. Psych is on cable, and cable shows don't get high ratings to begin with (except shows like Walking Dead and True Blood), and it doesn't matter as much as it does in networks.
"and what the fuck? Red John has ANOTHER friend in the FBI? Grace's fiance was also FBI!!"
Zombie!Craig. Still working for Red John, even as his limbs fall off. That's dedication.
"I can't believe that Jane can still be welcomed back to CBI"
I agree. At this point it's becoming just too unbelievable, even for a Tv show. There needs to be real consequences to Jane's actions and the show needs to stick with it for more than part of an episode. That's why they should have shook it up a bit, try something different, like having Jane kidnapped or go willingly with Red John, or something!.
He played the girl but I don't think he lied. Jane has a very twisted version of what is right or wrong.
Ho! I didn't catch that Lorelei was a recurrent character for next season. Very interesting. I have to think about that.
RJ has money and a huge net of followers (or people blackmailed, threatened or corrupted by his money). I'm not bothered by the fact that he has again a friend in the fbi. I bet he has others paws in the law enforcement, in the political world and others spheres of influence. He is thinking far ahead.
I imagine that Lisbon is covering most of his stunts in her report and so. Wainwright was ready to take him back because of the low closure rates just as the previous directors. But still, I agree with you. It bugged me that Jane was back at the CBI after he killed a man.
"There is so much drama they can dig into there, but they just won't." that is so true! It's like Heller doesn't dare to go there. Well, can't blame him. The ratings are great. I suppose a majority of viewers love the show as it is.
it can not be someone from the team. I wouldn't buy that.
If it is indeed someone we know, the more plausible candidate so far is Bret Stiles, the leader from the Visualize cult. But I don't think Heller would have give us such big hints if it was him. What about Walter Mashburne, the friendly billionaire who had an adventure with Lisbon? I should rewatch the two episodes he was in :-)
Bruno Heller is exactly the biggest liar in the writing staff of this show who has been caught outright misleading the press in order to make finales "more shocking". For example, his comments on the previous finale.
TOO UNBELIEVABLE? Yeah, that's why I ditched Terra Nova after a few eps too. Seriously guys, this is TV. There's a whole show next season based on a cult of serial killers, and I'm sure whatever fanbase that gathers wont be complaining that it's too unrealistic.
the show is good in it's week to week format and it wouldn't be wise to change a winning combination, but I wish they did not pull such dramatic stuff in the finales. They either have to be comfortable in the zone they are in or come out of it completely. These reserved-for-the-finale dramatics wont have any real impact to the show next season and hence makes it less and less believable and that in turn makes it harder to enjoy the show.
I mean, this show is based on a man and his revenge against him. If the authors changes that, the show is over. And I want Jane and Lisbon together because that's what most of the fans want and what Bruno Heller has always said. We've been waiting for this moment for too long. I don't think if they get together, the show will change. Look at Castle and Beckett: they are finally together now, but it's not the end. There's a lot of world to esplore in it. Go forward, Jisbon :D
Terra Nova was a sci-fi show and therefore not based in reality, so they could probably get away with a lot more unbelievable shit (as long as they stay within the constraints of their little canon that they made--but i wouldn't know if they did or didn't). The Mentalist is grounded in reality, therefore certain aspects, like Jane constantly coming back to the CBI with very little consequences is, yes, unbelievable. Of course he has to come back, that's a pretty big part of the show after all, but there needs to be more realistic consequences that last for longer. Eh, it would also be good drama for them to milk.
I, however, don't mind the cult serial killer Red John angle, and I don't find that aspect of this show too unrealistic. I actually like it. I want more of it! Nice dark and gritty episodes are fine by me.
"I can't believe that Jane can still be welcomed back to CBI"
We don't know anything about season 5 and if Heller is willing to go the same way he did with in "Scarlett Ribbons".
Before I at least have seen the first episodes of season 5 and the handling with Jane I won't judge and I won't make things darker as is it. Anyway it's just TV not reality. If you want reality you have to turn off TV and enjoy your life ;)
For me the finale was epic and I enjoyed every single minute !!!
i am agree about the woman in jane life they are hot, conning, manipulative, seductive without including his wife and lisbon please bring some love interest that keep jane motivated like the shrink thats not end very well but we saw the flirt side of jane
RJ is not one single guy. It is a cult. Last year's finale proved that. There are people willing to do RJ bidding everywhere. The Visualize cult has similar underpinnings.
Something that intriged me was Red John's high voice. Creepy. They've also mentioned it earlier in one of the episodes (I thought is was the one where RJ really approaches Jane).
I saw the episode and the actress who play lorelay spook me put nina dobrev and her dresser both like katherine, (HAIR,MAKEUP,CLOTHE) i am sure you wont blink and eye will looks like twin sister UUUYYY
When did Heller say he wanted Jane and Lisbon together?I love the red john plot and the fact that the show is a procedural and as you said, it's premise is revenge/how the murder of his family changes Jane and how far he will go to catch RJ is the whole point of the show. It has to be dragged out unfortunately because the second the massive nemesis is dead the drive of the show is gone.Jane so knew what he said to Lisbon, what a jerk! :p 'What did I say?'I think the writers are smart enough to throw these two together without turning the show into a soap opera, I still think we have atleast a season before Jane and Lisbon progress further in a romantic way. But that's the thing with the show, it's very Jane focussed and his character can go so many ways from this point. Bring on season 5!Other stuff: Darcy is SO the mole. I knew it wasn't Rigsby--though Van Pelt's tears had me worried for a second there.
RedJohn's voice was done by Simon Baker, for sure. But I don't think that means Jane is RJ, i think they just haven't cast him yet. I personally wouldn't be too bothered if RJ was infact Jane's split persona. Does anyone think it could be Jane's father? Is that too much of a leap? I don't remember anything about Jane's father...just a thought.
Heller said this in a old interview on Tv Guide. He said there is chemistry between Jane and Lisbon.
I have to change my mind about The Mentalist: I hope the Red John plot will come to an end this season otherwise we have to say goodbye to our show. People are getting tired of this plot, and if Heller goes and reads forum, I hope he'll realizing what his audience wants.
IF Bruno frequented message boards he would do exactly as he's doing now, whatever he wants. ;) There are people who like the RJ story line (along with those who watch for that only) and there people who are tired of RJ. The same thing about shipping, and everything. People watch the same show for different reasons.
I think the safest place for them as showrunner is go with their original vision of the show and hope that the majority of people like it. I yet have to see on The Mentalist a plot or a guest star, etc that comes to the show because they know the fans want them. That does't mean that other shows haven't done it or that the fans haven't shaped the run of other show, for ex, I think of Michaela McManus in L&O:SUV (they wrote her out because fans didn't warm up her and they wanted Stephanie March as ADA anyway) and House (the House/Cuddy relationship) so it's not unheard of, but I think Bruno has very specific things in mind for his TV show, along the line, some people will cheer (because it was exactly what they wanted) and some people will say that's crap (because it wasn't what they wanted). I for once I plan to enjoy whatever Mr Heller has thought for TM and for as long as it runs. :) Sorry for the long comment.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He said I love you to her
ReplyDeleteWow that was a great episode!
ReplyDeleteit's obvious that Darcy is Red John's another mole in the FBI
ReplyDeleteThe episode was AWESOME! And not just bc the Jane and Lisbon scenes, the rest was great too. Can't wait for season 5
ReplyDeleteI knew it was a ruse but they learned something very important. RJ has a mole in the FBI.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I LOVED this episode! But honestly: Bruno Heller is the most brilliant of con men... I can't believe how he TOTALLY fooled the fans, the sneaky little rascal :D!
ReplyDeleteit was a very good episode but not the best..
ReplyDelete*SQUEE* HE DID ♥___♥
ReplyDeleteI ♥ it so much .. esp. the amount of Patresa love we got <333333333 I think I'm' re-watch it until S5 xD
ReplyDeletePatrick needs to up his game.. I thought he's gonna succeed (and wished it) but RJ proves he saw right through that..
And now I am almost 100% convinced that Red John might be Patrick himself. (That or lisbon)
ReplyDeleteSo Chriqui is not in fact a love interest, but a "disciple" of RJ? Seriously? And here I thought that Jane might have some time with a woman who isn't somehow connected to that guy.
ReplyDeleteOh well, it looks like the writers are finally getting serious about a Jisbon hookup sometime in the near future. They've shown soooo little interest in that.
The dead body aka false RJ in the back of the limo? Was it Wainwright (shot dead by darcy/fbi)???
ReplyDeletehe always does... ^_^
ReplyDeletethis was the best episode of the series so far the actress who play lorelay creap me out ,speaks, the face ,hair, body walks, manerims like a doppleganger of nina dobrev of vampire diaries wooow really scary & the end the weak & childish director dead was ok because the character was a waste of time
ReplyDeleteAnd I would NEVER have expected this! Here I sat for weeks, mourning my sinking Jane/Lisbon-ship- and than I get THAT! Damn, I can't stop singing...
ReplyDeleteYes, it was Wainwright
ReplyDeleteIt's been told many times RJ is a man, and it's not Patrick.
ReplyDeleteyou think that was purposefully give to Jisbon fans after the pissed off comments about Lorelai?? 'coz I'm starting to think that .. but I don't care, long overdue Mentalist writers LOL :D
ReplyDeleteIf I were you I would not take anything the writing staff of this show says as they are known to outright lie to press to mislead :)
ReplyDeleteSo that goes back to my suspicions that either jane himself is red john (with some sort of multiple personality disorder) or that its lisbon or someone in that team.
ReplyDeleteI found something VERY Interesting this episode. The very last scene. Jane's behavior there. Lisbon was very uncomfortable with how he was tehre. And I agree.

ReplyDeleteReally? I couldn't make him & his eyes looked soooo weird to know for sure.. so HE was the mole .. Why? I liked the guy ;_;
ReplyDeletethanx (danke!)
ReplyDeletedidn't make that connection.. Did I get something wrong? The mole is supposed to be in the FBI right, not CBI?
ReplyDeleteI don't think he was the mole, just a toy/victim for Red John. He still has a mole inside the FBI. After Darcy found out it wasn't Risby who was shot she called the FBI. No doubt the mole alerted RJ and now know about Jane's try to catch him.
ReplyDeleteBruno Heller said it himself :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome / gern geschehen :)
ReplyDeletethat might be it! but I thought he was the mole 'coz he told her about Lisbon covering for Jane that's why I thought he was the mole, but that means someone in the FBI is working for RJ, and for some reason I don't think it's Darcy, even though they can make her the mole..
ReplyDeleteThat's right.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Don't think it's Darcy. She looked paralyzed and shocked to see Wainwright in the limo instead of the killer. Don't think it was fake.
ReplyDeleteI downloaded the episode to watch it, and at the end there was the usual "stay tuned for scenes from our next episode". However, it was the season finale and normally there isn't a promo until August. My question is for someone who watched it on CBS: was there a promo at the end of the episode?
ReplyDeleteNo, no promo. Looks like CBS simply forgot to change the voiceover :)
ReplyDeleteOk... Thank you... Damn CBS, messing with my head...
ReplyDeletePlease Mentalist writers whatever you do, DO NOT put Lisbon and Jane together. We all know when leads get together in a show such as this, it's doomed and cancellation will by nigh. ReplyDeleteThe file available to download (at least the first one) is from CTV, that's the one with the "Stayed tune" at the end, when CBS broadcasted it there wasn't voiceover.
ReplyDeleteIt was CTV not CBS who forgot.. lol! At least CBS ET didn't have "stayed tune", don't know about the west coast, though.
ReplyDeleteexactly. Love this show but it isn't very subtle with his hints
ReplyDeleteHe just did.
ReplyDeleteHe baited RJ and it almost worked.
Awesome ep.
ReplyDeleteDo not want Jane and Lisbon together just like you, but calling shipper fans "rabid shippers" isn't very nice.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of feel the same (almost give up then beeing hooked again because of the awesome finale) every season.
:-D
IMO, RJ ep. are the best ones. The show is at his best when we seen Jane darker side. I wish we had more episodes like this one.
Jane didn't tell her he was faking breakdown during six months and she still has is back. She is one hell of a friend.
ReplyDeleteLoved when Jane sneaked out while she was still ranting in the church. Hilarious!
The team isn't so eager to forgive him yet though. I had that pilot vibe again, when Jane wasn't part of the gang because of his behaviour, remember?
RJ cant be Jane, but what I want to know is if RJ is actually someone we have seen on the show, even if it was just once or twice. If it is a new character then we have no idea who it is.
ReplyDeleteThis is why i concluded that Darcy isn't the mole.. but what if RJ told her.. play your part, arrest them (to delay them) listen to them & 'help' them go after RJ, shoot up the limo it's okay b/c i won't be there.. would explain her shock that it's wainwright (didn't know who the decoy would be) and help remove suspicion she's the mole..
ReplyDeleteFor the record, i don't the she's the mole, i think we're supposed to think she is though..
Awesome episode.
ReplyDeleteI knew from the promo that Lorelei worked with RJ and it was obvious that Jane was faking his breakdown, but I was glued to the screen from start to finish anyway.
He better offer her strawberries each week until the end of the show ;-)
Loved Lisbon remark: "how does faking a breakdown--if that's what you're really doing-- because it looks pretty real to me, ..."
She is reminding him that for her it was real, but I think she also hint that she isn't duped by the brave face Jane put on every day.
Lisbon: "You son of a bitch."
Jane: "Okay, we are in a church."
:-D
Yep. RJ is very cautious but like any vilain, he like to gloat and talk :-)
ReplyDeleteHow is that? I didn't see anything that could reinforce that hypothesis.
ReplyDeleteI think Lisbon was uncomfortable because she sees Jane dark determination to catch Red John. She knows about it, Jane plainly told her he will kill RJ instead of catching him, but I think she sort of deny it.
ReplyDeleteSeeing Jane with his mask off perturbs her because she is the leader team and responsible if Jane kills RJ instead of letting her arrest him. She is mostly perturbed because Jane is her friend and you don't like to watch your friend going on a dark and destructive path.
Jane isn't RJ, but the more he let his need for revenge drive him, the more he becomes like RJ. Lisbon see that.
That's my take on it :-)
Heller has hinted more than once that it could be someone we have already see but he has never confirmed it.
ReplyDeleteHe is playing with us :-)
i think if jane and lisbon ever get togheter its gonna be more like the sarah and grisson type of thing
ReplyDeletenot like castle and beckett
they will be a more reserved couple ''if that heppens''
was a good episode i don't think darcy is the fbi mole i think when she called that guy for the warrants
the mole find out and told red john !!!
Some thoughts:
ReplyDelete1. The writers do sure love their telling. All telling and
no showing. We know that Lisbon missed Jane, there’s even a few moments where
she mentions it, but it would have been nice to see it. You know, more scenes
where it’s affecting her. Likewise with Jane, especially more so, it would have
been nice to see. He missed his best friend, even expected her to know where he was without
even telling her, thinking she bailed him out of jail, yet we never really see him
miss her. Or, hell, even the rest of his group. A few scenes with him acknowledging
this quietly to himself would have been nice.
2. Jane mentions how he doesn’t even regret killing the man
who he thought was Red John, even after knowing the truth. Great, introspective!Jane.
We’ll see more into his complex, morally ambiguous psyche—No, forget that. We’ll
just move along. Then he mentions he loves Lisbon. Surely they’ll explore this one
when she questions him about it—Oh, forget that, moving along. The writers go
too damn fast. Not even a “Of course I love you, Lisbon. You’re family” or a “Of
course I love you. In fact, I’m going to bend you over this table and have my
way with you as Rigsby watches.”
3. Even though I knew that this was all an elaborate scam on
Jane’s end, I was still disappointed that we never got to see jane fall to pieces.
It would have been interesting.
4. Jane had great chemistry with Lauralei. Jesus. For that
brief time in the beginning, where they were acting all couple-y, there was a nice
easygoingness about that relationship.
It was a new and intriguing side of Jane that we really haven’t seen
before. Of course then she has to drop the whole “I’m working with Red John and
he wants to be your bestie lol” shit on him. That disappointed me too. I really
like this relationship and wanted more.
5. Even though some people complain that the Lisbon/Jane
thing never really progresses, I disagree. There was a point where she never
would have allowed Jane to touch her, or to even open up to him. Now she’s
holding him and his hand. The next logical step? They need to get a Best Friends Forever ring
and sing the song, ala SpongeBob and Patrick. IT'S THE BEST FRIENDS FOREVER, BEST FRIENDS FOREVER
RING. It’s pretty obvious how much they adore one another. And I know some fans
will be pissed about how Jane left Lisbon in agony for six months, but I know
that in an instant, despite Jane's many flaws, Jane will always pick Lisbon over his mad hatter quest for
Red John. He already did, back in season one, when he killed Dumar, not knowing
if he’d ever get another chance to get to Red John ever again--for all he knew
at that time--he shot him dead to save Lisbon. No hesitation. No thinking. Because
they’ll choose each other always. Lisbon is Jane’s home. No matter how selfish Jane
can be, no matter how stubborn and righteous Lisbon is. They are each other’s
besties.
6. Speaking of which, I find it hard to believe that Lisbon
wasn’t the least bit suspicious. 8+ years with Jane and she didn’t think, even
for a minute, that he might be running some complex, stupid plan? Like always?
It would have been swell if the writers had added in a scene with Lisbon on her
phone, leaving a message for Jane, threatening him with bodily harm if it all
turned out to be a ruse to get Red John. She’s a detective. Come on.
7. Wainwright’s dead. Yeah, I don’t care either. Maybe if he
had been expanded on more as a character?
8. This episode went too friggin’ fast. It should have been
more than an hour.
9. I think it would have been awesome if Red John took Jane
in the end. Lisbon and team could have spent the beginning of the next season
trying to find him.
10 how long before Red John goes after Lisbon?
Yeah. Overall, it was predictable and too fast, but parts of this
episode were just too damned awesome.
ReplyDelete"I find it hard to believe that Lisbon wasn't the least bit suspicious"
ReplyDeleteGood point.
About the "I love you":
Maybe Jane tested her by pretending he didn't remember, Lisbon backed off so he dropped the thing.
Or jane
doesn't allow himself to be happy until RJ is killed and he pushed
Lisbon to say the words out loud, knowing very well she would back off.
The second hypothesis is my favorite.
Would have love to see jane Kidnapped by RJ at the end, because hello, Jane not in control of the game, that would be new!
great post!
This is real randomness but what I thought was really cool was when he was talking to what he thought was RJ in the mirror, there was bling red light on the dashboard. Deliberate call back to "Blinking Red Light" episode, when he was sort of talking to RJ via camera? ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, very good episode. twisted. Damn FBI!
ReplyDeleteAbout Jane's murder introspection and the whole right and wrong speech, I am sure it was just Jane committing to his role as he has been for the last 6 months.
ReplyDeleteJane remembers EVERYTHING!
ReplyDeleteOF COURSE it's not Jane!!! :O
ReplyDeleteIf it is someone, it has to be someone who is just as old as, or older than, Jane. Male.
ReplyDeleteChuck always suffered in ratings, so it's not a good example for the fall of a show, cuz it never really was successful after a point. Psych is on cable, and cable shows don't get high ratings to begin with (except shows like Walking Dead and True Blood), and it doesn't matter as much as it does in networks.
ReplyDeleteWhat about rabid non-shippers? Oh, pardon- those are okay of course, because they share YOUR opinion...
ReplyDelete"and what the fuck? Red John has ANOTHER friend in the FBI? Grace's fiance was also FBI!!"
ReplyDeleteZombie!Craig. Still working for Red John, even as his limbs fall off. That's dedication.
"I can't believe that Jane can still be welcomed back to CBI"
I agree. At this point it's becoming just too unbelievable,
even for a Tv show. There needs to be real consequences to Jane's actions and
the show needs to stick with it for more than part of an episode. That's why
they should have shook it up a bit, try something different, like having Jane
kidnapped or go willingly with Red John, or something!.
"between Morena Baccarin's con woman and Emanuelle C's RJ accolyte, Jane sure does court some hot psychos...."
ReplyDeleteHé hé!
He does. What's that saying about him?
I am not tired at all with the RJ mythology. It's what kept Jane on the edge and it give us the best episodes.
The show needs to give Jane some serious opponents, Vilains as intelligent, twisted and manipulative as Jane is :-)
He played the girl but I don't think he lied. Jane has a very twisted version of what is right or wrong.
ReplyDeleteHo!
"There is so much drama they can dig into there, but they just won't."
that is so true! It's like Heller doesn't dare to go there.
Well, can't blame him. The ratings are great. I suppose a majority of viewers love the show as it is.
it can not be someone from the team. I wouldn't buy that.
ReplyDeleteIf it is indeed someone we know, the more plausible candidate so far is Bret Stiles, the leader from the Visualize cult.
ReplyDeleteTOO UNBELIEVABLE? Yeah, that's why I ditched Terra Nova after a few eps too. Seriously guys, this is TV. There's a whole show next season based on a cult of serial killers, and I'm sure whatever fanbase that gathers wont be complaining that it's too unrealistic.
ReplyDeleteyou know what? It could be that guy...
ReplyDeletethe show is good in it's week to week format and it wouldn't be wise to change a winning combination, but I wish they did not pull such dramatic stuff in the finales. They either have to be comfortable in the zone they are in or come out of it completely. These reserved-for-the-finale dramatics wont have any real impact to the show next season and hence makes it less and less believable and that in turn makes it harder to enjoy the show.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sick of the whole Red John's plot.
ReplyDeleteI mean, this show is based on a man and his revenge against him.
Terra Nova was a sci-fi show and therefore not based in
ReplyDeletereality, so they could probably get away with a lot more unbelievable shit (as long as they stay within the constraints of their little
canon that they made--but i wouldn't know if they did or didn't). The
Mentalist is grounded in reality, therefore certain aspects, like Jane
constantly coming back to the CBI with very little consequences is, yes,
unbelievable. Of course he has to come back, that's a pretty big part of the
show after all, but there needs to be more realistic consequences that last for
longer. Eh, it would also be good drama for them to milk.
I, however, don't mind the cult serial killer Red John
angle, and I don't find that aspect of this show too unrealistic. I actually like it. I want more of it! Nice dark and gritty episodes are fine by me.
"I can't believe that Jane can still be welcomed back to CBI"
ReplyDeleteWe don't know anything about season 5 and if Heller is willing to go the same way he did with in "Scarlett Ribbons".
Before I at least have seen the first episodes of season 5 and the
handling with Jane I won't judge and I won't make things darker as is
it. Anyway it's just TV not reality. If you want reality you have to
turn off TV and enjoy your life ;)
For me the finale was epic and I enjoyed every single minute !!!
i am agree about the woman in jane life they are hot, conning, manipulative, seductive without including his wife and lisbon please bring some love interest that keep jane motivated like the shrink thats not end very well but we saw the flirt side of jane
ReplyDeleteYay. I stopped hoping for a real shipper moment of Lisbon and Jane on the show - this REALLY caught me by surprise =) Awesome.
ReplyDeleteRJ is not one single guy. It is a cult. Last year's finale proved that. There are people willing to do RJ bidding everywhere. The Visualize cult has similar underpinnings.
ReplyDeletehahaha, if I want reality and TV both, I can choose other shows ;) :P
ReplyDeleteI agree, finale was epic! I was gonna write up a review for that, too, here, but no time :(
Yes, we got the same "Stay tuned..." on the West Coast as well. :O
ReplyDeleteSomething that intriged me was Red John's high voice. Creepy. They've also mentioned it earlier in one of the episodes (I thought is was the one where RJ really approaches Jane).
ReplyDeleteD*nm them!! Messing ours heads! Playing with our feelings!!
ReplyDeleteI saw the episode and the actress who play lorelay spook me put nina dobrev and her dresser both like katherine, (HAIR,MAKEUP,CLOTHE) i am sure you wont blink and eye will looks like twin sister UUUYYY
ReplyDeleteHey Diana,
ReplyDeleteWhen did Heller say he wanted Jane and Lisbon together?I love the red john plot and the fact that the show is a procedural and as you said, it's premise is revenge/how the murder of his family changes Jane and how far he will go to catch RJ is the whole point of the show.
ReplyDeleteI have to change my mind about The Mentalist: I hope the Red John plot will come to an end this season otherwise we have to say goodbye to our show.
ReplyDeleteI think the safest place for them as showrunner is go with their original vision of the show and hope that the majority of people like it. :)
Sorry for the long comment.
i had to look twice, lol, thought the same thing
ReplyDeleteIt would be cool if one of the team member was in a life and death situation.
ReplyDeleteBut of could they would life other whys it would not be the sames
