  2. ahahahahahaahaha i'm laughing to not  cry or crash things. WTF is this show?

  3. I really couldn't tell what direction this episode had the characters going in until the last 10 minutes. I love the sort of downward spirals of Serena and Dan. Lily really does belong with Bart; They're so made for each other, but where does this leave Rufus next season? I was wondering how the hell Ivy was supposed to fit into the equation net season, but now it'll be interesting to see her try to take down Lily, while Jack, Chuck (And Blair?) try to take down Bart. Maybe now that Dan has no friends on the USE anymore (save for Nate) maybe he can finally reconcile his friendship with Vanessa? She always really had his best interests at heart and hopefully he realizes that now after Serena and Blair betrayed him and broke his heart. And Nate having footage of Gossip Girl?...

  4.  i haven't watched the ep yet but i'm 100% positive i will have the same opinion as you. i'm chair shipper and i know they got together but that doesn't change the fact these writers have ruined every single character on the show. they should have got only tv movie to wrap "storylines" and fix blair/serena friendship and then bye.

  5. Worst episode ever!! They just killed everyone's characters!! This show has no consistency at ALL!!!

  6. The worst serie ever nothing have sense

  7. Worst episode, Really a proof for why they only got 11 episodes for next season.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Never ever seen a worse finale episode in my entire life. They ruined the best ting they  had in the worst way possible. I am never watching GG ever again nor recommending anyone to watch it who hasn't seen it.
They killed all the writers and continuity to bring back the worst couple in the world ....

  10. The episode wasn't that good, but Chair is back together!!!!! YAY, thank god. I'm looking forward to S6 now.

  12. Why "hilarous" isn't a choice?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thank God Dan and Blair are over and Chuck and Blair can begin again.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Lol what a joke this show is

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am happy that Blair chose Chuck....twice =) , but honestly the episode wasn't all that great.  I feel like we are going to be chasing our tails for all 11 episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  16.  huge disappointment... every character (except nate) was so screwed  up....and facing his own identity crisis....

    ReplyDelete
  17. The worst episode ever !

    ReplyDelete
  18. I will go with the option "HILARIOUS" too

  19. A piece of shit! The worst!

  20. even of you ship Chair you have to admit that was poorly written. I mean really did the show just revert back to season 2. I thought this was a season of growth? Season 6 sounds like a mix of pre-season 1 Serena and a condenesed re-used version of Chair Season 2. And Dan sounds like a more angry post-break up season 2 Dan. As for Nate he might be the only one moving forward. I would have voted okay if they had added an official closure to Dair, not destroy Serena even more, and left Chair starting completely over after real heart felt apologies on both parts and finally starting a relationship that wasn't so rushed but they really try to work on friendship and finding common ground. If they did that then I would have been Ok. I know Chair fans are happy but if that was my ship I would still be upset about how Chair as a relationship hasn't shown any growth but demise since mid-season 3 and now you all make a full circle to season 2.

  21. They've seriously ruined this show.  They should have cancelled it around third season.  First season was the best in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And yes, it was seriously poorly done. Lots of callbacks to past seasons, but almost no satisfying moments.

That said, just couldn't give two craps about all the other storylines. Georgina back, the potential for a Jack-Blair-Chuck alliance and the end of Dair made me happy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lol this is funny. Even peole who watch this show think it sucks. Ll more proof the should of cancelled it instead of secret circle. Haha loce that its sucking more.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The worst episode of the whole season, even worse than Bart coming back, Blair having a miscarriage and then acting as if nothing happened the next episode, even worse than that Prince Louis storyline that honestly didnt have an ending. Thanks for ruining every character gossip girl, I dont even like Blair Waldorf anymore and she was my favorite tv character.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I thought it was a joke, honestly.  I was waiting for them to pull a "St. Elsewhere" and have this all turn out to be a dream, but then I found out that they were actually serious and, well...O_O

  26. I am never watching another episode of Gossip Girl ever again,
This show is the WORST. The actual fucking worst show I’ve ever seen. I’m literally sick to my stomach and disgusted at it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Really??? that's the season finale??? The only good thing about that was Chuck and Blair I just hope they don't screw that up as well! I wonder who is going to take over Season 6 now that Safran is gone. Hopefully Schwartz can come back and fix this mess!!!

lol I think it's so hilarious that the most of the votes went to 'Awesome' or 'Awful'. Says something about the voters. Anyway it was pretty awful, in a neutral point of view and not shipperswise.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wow looks like I shouldnt even bother with this finale! I guess I'll just let it sit on my DVR for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What the fuck was that?? Is this the Chuck show?? Is Blair really that stupid?? Does Serena really think Dan could love her after eveything she did thru the years??? So Dan would just sleep with Serena after waiting for Blair for a year??How can you end dair like that?? What the fuck did I just watch?? This whole season makes no sense!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I feel the same way! They Ruined My Favorite TV character Blair Waldorf.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The worst episode ever, I cannot believe I just watch that much garbage in one hour of my life

    ReplyDelete
  33. Worst season finale ever every character got screwed. Blair lost all self respect and taking over her mother's business was something she never wanted. Serena back to drugs and whoring. Lily with cold face Bass. Rufus alone. Nate who cares. Dan turning to Georgina and the darkside. Kind of like that last one, wanna see badass sexy Dan. Maybe if he treats Blair like crap she'll fall in love with him.

    ReplyDelete
  34. love love love love love

    chair chair chair chair<3

    ReplyDelete
  35. I loved the CB scene in the casino. I love that Lily has drama again. I love that Serena told Dan the truth of his "love" for Blair--it is book Blair he loves. Loved Nate "seeing" GG. Loved the crazy fast pace.

I just think it should have aired a month ago to launch the finale arc. But hey! We're on the final countdown.

Nevermind that I am going to spend the entire summer freaking out about Serena's meltdown. So awful.

    ReplyDelete
  36. not a thrilling episode but it brought back Chuck and Blair!!!! That is what matters most. Blair finally stopped hiding and its amazing!!! Loved seeing them back. Bart Lily?? yes please LMAO but Bart, grow a heart!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I couldn't agree more. They were the only parts of the finale I enjoyed tbh.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm happy Chuck and Blair are back and Dan and Blair are dead and buried, but I'm not going to lie and say it was a good episode, because it wasn't. The writing just lacks subtlety (I mean, Blair bringing up Nate/Serena sex in her conversation with Dan? HOW SUBTLE, writers). And really, aside from her conversations with Eleanor (and Chuck, at the end), Blair was still pretty unlikable in this episode. Bart's characterization was completely schizophrenic- his last scene with Chuck was outstanding, but the difference in how he acted with Chuck vs Lily was whiplash-inducing. Nate didn't even have a storyline, and Serena was left to make a pathetic mess of herself over her douchbag of an ex. And Dan is going to write a tell-all exposing the UES? I'm sorry, what was it he did this season, if not that?

So yeah, I wouldn't say I'm happy about much of the episode except the fact that Chuck got to tell Blair off (not that the way he did it even made much sense, but whatever), and that she decided to fight for him. And now I can go bleach the last 11 episodes of this show out of my brain like they never happened.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah, they did that like 7 episodes ago. Or... 21 episodes ago, depending on how you're counting.

    ReplyDelete
  40.  And whats worse is chuck doesnt even care to have her back. she went from a loving man to a guy who sees her as someone who held them back. thats a horrible message to send to girls specifically impressionable teenage girls.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The moment the writers made Dan emerge from the shower last week with the worst hair in the history of television, I knew that they were going to kill Dair, which is a shame. The way in which Dair evolved, was so well-executed,  that I think the writers really cheated viewers by ending it so abruptly (and callously) . The Chuck-Blair relationship was exciting in the earlier seasons, but I really have no interest in seeing it revisited. Chuck and Blair brought out the worst in each other, whereas Dan and Blair brought out the best in each other.

As if destroying Dair wasn't enough, the writers continued on their path of destruction by ruining both Serena and Blair's characters, bringing back the old Bart, ending yet another Nate relationship, breaking up Lily and Rufus (the only stable relationship) and bringing back Ivy, when I thought we were done with her. Right now, my favorite character is probably Vanessa.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's the exact same message in reverse to Blair's "powerful women" arc that started in the winter finale last year. Which was heavy-handed enough to clearly be intentional.

    ReplyDelete
  43.  I do ship Chair hard core and thought the episode was shit. I loved that Blair chooses Chuck of course, that goes with me being a hard core Chair shipper. I was like, um okay? Chuck and Blair didn't even kiss. I hope it's not just them chasing their tails again. I am going to be pissed as hell if the last season is just them chasing their tails. We've done this, move forward now and stop going in circles.

I was like okay, So Blair chose Chuck, and Serena chose Dan only to have both girls get rejected. Is next season also going to be Dan and Serena chasing their tails? Both spiraling out of control? Serena's on drugs and Dan now hates the upper-east-side.

It really pissed me off that Lily chose Bart over Rufus. Bart has been gone for 3 years. I hated Bart. It now makes no sense for him to be so hard on Chuck. Chuck didn't kill his mother in childbirth,  and Chuck just saved him. I just do don't get Bart at all. Rufus didn't even put up that much of a fight when Lily asked for  the annulment. Why did he sign?

Nate didn't have a storyline and didn't even see any point of him being there in the whole episode except for the last 10 seconds. We know the only thing Ivy will do is take down Lily, not that we care, and Bart can destroy her by snapping his fingers. So yes I agree, the episode was bad even though I'm a hard core chair shipper.

I just don't get the writers of this show. They have so much potential for greatness, and they waste a lot of opportunities. Safran said he knew exactly what was going to happen all season long and how it was going to end. He spent all season for the finale to end like that? The most unclimatic end ever? RIP Smash.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm going to ignore the love triangle (or is it a square?) and focus on the rest of the episode. Holy Bart Bass... just when I thought he came back all changed and friendly, he pulls the company out from Chuck's feet. Such a mess. As far as Lily goes, I'm glad she chose Bart - Rufus can get out of a life that pretty much poisoned him, and Lily and Bart deserve each other as far as I'm concerned. And I couldn't care less about Serena at this point - after all her scheming and manipulating, she got what was coming to her.

I was excited by the prospect of Blair on her own. It's about time she figured out who she is without being defined by the relationship she's in. I think it was a great step for Chuck to be the one to reject her on the rooftop, though. He's been following her around like a lost puppy for what feels like forever, so it was nice to see him turn her down... not that it stuck...

    ReplyDelete
  45.  Dan and Blair don't even have a closure. Chair had 450 000 goodbye scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh, come on, now.  My ship not ending up together?  Whatever.  Generally, I'd be happy they got a shot.  The fact that Dair isn't going to end up together is neither unexpected (I mean, who didn't see a Chair reunion coming) or even that big of a deal.  I would've been happy that they got some time together and left it at that, just like the whole Brucas vs. Leyton thing back in the day.

But no.  The writers didn't just end Dair, they threw that relationship under a bus.  They threw both characters under a bus.  They threw the Blair/Serena friendship, and Serena, and Chuck, and Chuck and Blair's relationship to some extent (again), and Lily, and Rufus and Lily's last three and half years together, all under a really big bus; and Nate sort of stood there watching it all, because Nate is surprisingly enough the least self-sabotaging of the group at this point.  Good for him - that's called growth.  But pretty much everyone else is exactly where they were before, only they've hurt a lot of people to get there, and they're generally more depressed and angry than they were before.  So what was the point of watching the last five years?

I am happy for you Chair fans, though.  I know it's nice to see your ship get together (or get close to getting back together), even if it's not exactly how you wanted it.  My 2008/2009 self is celebrating with you. xD

This year's model of me, however, is probably done with the show.  I might watch the finale, but unless I have a big change of heart over the summer for some reason, I think it's time to let this one go.  It's just not fun to watch anymore.

  47. Wow is that a first? Having more people think the episode it's bad?

    Worst episode in tv's history...

    ReplyDelete
  49. this is so an awful episode...LOL...I can't even be mad to the writers..they're just ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  50. In general I hated Serena in this episode. Dan still needs a haircut. They need to give Nate a better plot! And a decent love interest. As for Dan. Blair. Chuck. I don't see why Dair's are mad? They act like this is such a shock. Could someone explain this? Because two episodes before she got with dan she was on a rampage about how she loved Chuck so much but she couldn't be with him, because of the plan with God. I'm sorry... but going from " I love someone, more and more, each day." doesn't just vanish when you're dating some new guy. And you have to remember, " someone new has my heart" is not an I love you. Like Blair said... Dan was a safe choice. Chuck has never been safe. Dan was her best friend. No you're right they didn't get a proper break up... or they might have... it was one week later. And they were  talking through email... so. Sorry. But I'm not sorry. Over all... the episode was decent. the bad points were not THE DAIR AND CHAIR THOUGH.

    ReplyDelete
  51. In a sense as well " someone new has my heart" yes, she gave her heart to someone else. lol. but does that really mean she loves him? no it doesn't. it just means she's placed it with him and has to hope he doesn't her. I don't know why Dair's though she'd end up with Dan? A few episodes of a lost Blair being with Dan after her wedding, losing a baby, and almost losing Chuck, she wasn't in her right mind at all. Sorry but Blair loving Chuck for five seasons... compared to Dan for a few episodes... there not going to end game Dair, it'd be wrong on so many levels. It'd be different if Chair had REALLY ENDED a long time ago. Like Derena really has been dead for a lifetime, so I could understand that not being a endgame. Chair has never been dead. I used to love Dan and Serena... till I realized it was really dead. and now.. I actually even kinda hate Derena... even though it's not actually fully dead considering Serena loves Dan.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh DAIRS! You complained about how Chair's complained about how we didn't get a proper ending. I'm sorry. But Blair going to Dan after announcing her undying love for Chuck was a bigger shocker then what you guys had to deal with tonight. Also, saying you're boycotting season six? Didn't you once tell GGWriters " You'll always have Dair Fans" lol! You're being just as bad as some Chairs were when Dair happened. ;) There is more Chair fans... therefore, we don't need you. So have a good life. Crying about a ship that never had the potential to be end game in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  53. And I actually remember before Dair even happening a lot of Dair fans saying " Oh, we just want Dair for a little bit. Please, Just give them a chance GGWriters! Just one chance." you had your chance, then you became greedy and wanted more!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I voted great. I would have voted awesome if the whole Lily/Bart subplot wasn't totally lame and unbelievable. Finally the end of Dair. I'm not going to read the comments because I know I'll just get angry. Chair fans have sat through 5 seasons of obstacles and stuck with it through the end, now it's paying off finally. I'm just glad to see the Blair realize who she's meant to be with. Now we just need to get Dan/Serena and Rufus/Lily back on track and I'll be very happy.

    ReplyDelete
  55. idc about the ratings, because in my heart this episode made me happy <3 <3 chair~  mr and mrs bass all the way

    ReplyDelete
  56. the fact that CB had to get back together is ridiculous (THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER BROKE UP!!) BUT YAYYAYYA FOR CHAIR FOREVERRR <3

    ReplyDelete
  57. The episode wasn't that good.  But the only part worth watching was, as usual, Chuck and Blair scenes.  We are FINALLY GETTING OUR CHAIR BACK!!!!  SO HAPPY!!!!  NO MORE DAIR IS JUST ICING ON THE CAKE.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I will just say one thing. The finale would be better if they skipped the last 2 minutes. Not knowing if Chuck and Blair will reconcile would be much better. As for other chatacters oh well I see Serena went back to her old way - at this point i don't know if it is a good or a bad move. I just wish season 6 will be better than season 5 was.

Oh and for me it looked like gossip girl was actually a man. Or am I wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm so glad Dair is gone. Seriously the worst couple ever. I didn't love the finale. I liked the Casino scene but the rest was a little flat

    ReplyDelete
  60. I liked that too! Something to care about towards the end of the show

    ReplyDelete
  61. The writing has been bad all season but I'd much rather watch Chair (a couple that makes sense) than the ill writing of Dair any day. I'm actually really happy about the Chuck and Blair scene this episode (not Blair's writing for most of the season) because Chuck stood up for himself. Blair has treated him terribly all year and I liked she's going to fight for him, because she should right now.

    ReplyDelete
  62. its exactly what i knew would happen. they didn't please ANY fanbase. Dan and Blair didnt even break up. And Chuck and Blair didnt even get together. Its all open end ..so much for that. And what about 'Gabe Saportas role will include a lot of sex'? LOL JK. ugh this finale was the worst ... the scenes looked as if there were 2930 scenes missing in between. NO CONTINUITY. NO SENSE.

    ReplyDelete
  63. BYE BYE DAIR, WELCOME BACK DERENA!!!!

Next year is going to be Dan saving Serena just like back in season 1

    ReplyDelete
  64. THE EPISODE WASN'T REALLY GOOD BUT I'M SO HAPPY THAT WE ARE FINALLY SEEING THE BEGINNING OF CHAIR.  IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN TIME!!!  DAN GIVING BLAIR THAT ULTIMATUM AND CHUCK TELLING HERE HE'S MOVING ON WHEN SHE TOLD HIM SHE AND DAN WERE STILL TOGETHER WAS THE PUSH SHE NEEDED TO FINALLY FACE WHAT'S IN HER HEART AND TO GO AFTER WHAT SHE REALLY WANTED AND NEEDED: CHUCK!   NO OFFENSE TO DAIR FANS, I'M GLAD DAIR IS OVER BUT I DO THINK THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD A PROPER GOOD BYE SCENE.  THE OTHER STORYLINES WAS WEAK, LOLA GIVING ALL HER MONEY TO IVY AND LILY LEAVING RUFUS FOR BART DOESN'T REALLY MAKE SENSE.  BUT IVY TRYING TO TAKE DOWN LILY WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE, AND HUMPHREY TEAMING UP WITH GEORGINA SHOULD BE FUN.  IT ALWAYS GETS CRAZY WHEN GEORGINA IS INVOLVED.

    ReplyDelete
  65.  Serena is in Dan's head and heart?? LOL! Blair said about Dan "he peered into my soul".

    ReplyDelete
  66.  The difference is she never had considered Dan as an opition. It was all about Louis and Chuck. She didn't choose Chuck or Louis OVER DAN but yes, she chose Dan OVER CHUCK.

    ReplyDelete
  67.  I'd rather a ship no endgame but healthy. I'm just sayin!

    ReplyDelete
  68. This was a really pleasant Season Finale and I don't get all the complaining.
I liked it a lot, so for me this was a total AWESOME.
And I'm not just talking about Chair, but everything. The minions, Bart and Lily, Dorota even. I liked it a big deal.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I just read through some of those comments here and I'm shaking my head.
A good TV show is about entertainment not about ships and shipwars.
THis episode was entertaining, that's all that matters.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Finally some semblance of a Chair reunion!! It was the only good thing about the episode!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Thank god this crappy season ended and CB are together again <333

    ReplyDelete
  72. season sucked so i am really happy it ended but the finale didn't provide my higher expectations. i am happy that CB are betting on all on each other, i loved that part...but the scenes were so short...we craved so much for so many things and we got quick wraps...ugh

    ReplyDelete
  73. Glad that Chair is back on and the show killing DB is over.   Now is the time to start fixing the damage.  The pacing was not great in the episode and the Bart stuff was insane.  They need to stop focusing on the OMG and have characters make sense.  That being said they set up a lot of interesting storylines for next season while ending some awful ones from this one.

    ReplyDelete
  74. The episode was entertaining and had me interested throughout, however I had higher hopes for the finale. Blair wanting to find Serena's biggest secret to "take her down" didn't amount to anything.
I've enjoyed watching both Serena and Lily's downward spiral but was surprised at how easily Lily would drop Rufus for Bart in only a few days knowing of his existence?
Serena's only going backwards and with eleven (deservedly so) episodes left, I have no idea how they're going to end her character. It's just a shame to have seen such an amazing transition during season 1 to seeing her now.
And may I lastly add, Ed Westwick was amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I've watched the finale twice. The first time I was really excited to get to the end with the casino scene and Blair and Chuck going all in. The second time was when I focus on the other parts and I don't think it's as bad as some people are claiming. It's the best way to end a horrid season and I know that most of us get what we want and that's what matters. Whatever, Dair ends and we can now pretend this season never happened.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'm sorry but I don't think Blair and Dan ever brought out the best in each other. They are together like in 6-7 episodes and guess what? In every single episode, they always have endless problems, sex, trust, manipulation and they isolate themselves from their friends, being selfish and in denial. More than that, Blair admits that she's been still in love with Chuck the whole time she is with Dan so really, why would anyone think Blair's better off with Dan? Does Dan and Blair relationship scream 'healthy' to you after those short episodes? The point is they should never have crossed the line of friendship in the first place.

Blair and Chuck have never stopped fighting for each other. Once one of them gives up, the other always rushes in to secure it because they're inseparable. Hate it all you want but calling their relationship this or that doesn't change the fact that they are the ones who decide whom they want to be with. Get over it.. I'd never seen Blair that much confident and powerful all this season until she steps up to fight for a life with the man she really loves - mark Serena's words in 5x13. If you are bright enough, you could have seen it from Serena's POV but I guess some of us are not capable of detaching our own version of fiction from the real show.

    ReplyDelete
  77. wow, think that may have been worse than last years finale

    ReplyDelete
  78. Beyond terrible. The whole season was a mess, and ruining Dair was the last straw. I'm done.

    ReplyDelete
  79. why are you suprised.. in episode 13 blair said she loves chuck more and more everyday.. she was never herself with dan... she let georgina scheme for her, she wasnt motivated.. she didnt see her friends..    Now she chose chuck and has her company ready to rule and be herself again.. and as for serena.. i swear people are stupid.. dan has cheated on every girl he has ever been with, with serena!!!! he loved her till mid season 4.. she didnt treat him badly, he was judgemental and she couldnt choose, just like blair couldnt.. but difference is he is always always serena first choice! and they ruined blair and serena all season on purpose to have a storyline for season 6 as it is back to basics!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I have no words and my neck hurts from shaking my head with such ferocity. I just can't anymore. If this show starts airing in syndication in my area, I'm going to start a petition for it not too.

    ReplyDelete
  81. They destroyed Serena's character BIG time. Sure she was a party girl but in Season 1 she always put her friendship with Blair first before anything else because no matter how difficult life got at times B was her one constant.

And whatever happened to Season 4 when the two trusted each other so much that NOTHING could break their friendship apart?! And now some petty diary and Blair is out to destroy Serena and then Serena goes so low as to sleep with Dan just to get back at Blair?!

Thank god this show is ending next season.

    ReplyDelete
  82. enjoyed it,hopefully will set the final season up to got out with a bang

The episode was okay, Chuck and Blair scenes were amazing as always. But apart from Blair with Eleanor, her minions and Dorota she was horrible.

She was so out of order having a go at Serena who spent the first half of the episode trying to save her relationship/friendship's from collapsing (even pleading to GG to do anything she asked, which says alot to me after how B has treated her) and when she destroyed Serena's job opportunity and blamed her for her complete lack of good decisions this season was insane.. as Serena herself, pointed out "You cant hold me responsible for everything bad in your life"

Through everything Serena had lost she still didn't stand in the way of Dair and tried to help Blair as much as she would let her. Trying to help her see sense and make the right choices but when she told her the truth and clearly hit a nerve she kicked her out and tossed her to the curb. As bad a decision Serena made using Dan to hurt Blair, i honestly don't blame her. She's taken some much loss and hurt that she finally snapped and spiralled down to where she began, which is so sad really.

As a Chair fan i'm happy but cant help but feel like Serena now giving up on how hard she had worked to mature and grow and build from her mistakes at the beginning of the season has been destroyed, bit by bit each episode up until this point. She deserves to be happy and i honestly hope she notices that Nate has been the only one that's cared and looked out for her best interests all season and he is the one she can finally be happy with. Espeically after how Dan has treated her, i honestly dont see Derena coming back at this point (which is sad as i was a huge fan of them Season 1 and 2)

  84. sometimes i wonder how you people are that have they couples arguments about the show.

    ReplyDelete
  85.  She choose to delude herself with two guys she clearly didn't love, rather than risk herself with Chuck.

I mean, I know the finale was muddled, but wasn't that clearly the story here? I'm not one to trust Safran or Goodman, but Stephanie Savage says that getting back to Chuck was the intention from Day One of this season.

  86. We always have our own "ships" in TV shows, but if a show is well-written, and the relationships  follow a logical path, then most people will not judge a show based on a couple's outcome.  For example, a show like  "The Good Wife" has never been satisfying on the relationship front, but that certainly doesn't stop me from grading nearly episode as "awesome".

The problem with Gossip Girl is that there is no proper continuity; the writers seem to start and end every relationship on a whim. Whether you like Chair, Dair, Derena or Nerena, I can't imagine that anyone would be happy with this show.  For a show that works so hard to get people invested in a particular couple it's sad that the only way they know how to break them up is by ruining at least one person's character.  I was a big fan of  Serena & Nate, until Serena suddenly decided that she still liked Dan and dumped Nate. There was also Nate+Vanessa, which quickly went south after the writers transformed Vanessa into this scheming insecure person. Or what about Serena and Professor #1, who gave up his job for Serena, only to be instantly dumped. Rufus and Lilly were the stable couple, until they both became completely unbearable this season.  Blair + Chuck (another favorite of mine) was completely destroyed when Chuck decided to pimp Blair. Dair was just the most recent couple to suffer at the hands of poor writing. As much as I enjoyed Dair, I'm glad that Dan had the sense to move on. I'm not even sure I'd want to see them back together, after the way things ended. It's the same way I felt when Chair ended.

By the way, it's not a coincidence that Blair's decision to date Chuck happened on the heels of inheriting her Mom's company, just as it's also no coincidence that Chuck's rejection of Blair happened after he lost control of his company. Neither person is capable of living in the other's "shadow", which means that this 10th installment of Chair will fail just like the others.

  87. Gossip Girl is a soap. The Good Wife is not.

It's a show about the melodrama of teenage/young adult socialites, their relationships and their rivalries. That's what it was in print, that's what it was in it's first couple seasons, and that's what it is now. Dips in quality are another animal completely.

As for the "10th installment of Chair will fail just the others" bit... if they were going another two or three years, I'd agree. More likely they'll hit stumbling blocks and end the series on a wedding. That's the thing about "endgame" scenarios. This last bit won't be about continuing the drama, it will be about bringing it to a close.

  88. Stella, a comment like this would be far more admirable if you had followed your own example on prior, pro-Dair episodes. If you can't do as you preach, then don't preach!

    ReplyDelete
  89. The Good Wife probably wasn't the best example (I don't watch too many "relationship" shows anymore, so this was my best example!). However, Gossip Girl doesn't follow the path of a typical soap. In most soaps, relationships are as painfully slow to end, as they are to begin, and usually end with closure (or death). Furthermore, the characters in soaps don't suffer from relationship amnesia like gossip girl. I've watched enough young adult relationship that don't insult the intelligence of viewers, to know that this is possible.  There was Dawson's Creek, the O.C, Grey's anatomy, etc. Even One Tree Hill followed a more logical path, although the characters bored me to tears.

With respect to the Chair endgame, you're probably right. Using logic to predict the outcome of this show is just...illogical. So yes, they will probably end up together, which wouldn't even be the central issue, if the writers would put just as much energy into giving the other characters a reasonable storyline (another difference between GG and most soaps).

  90. really healthy? he cheated for one. who cares if serena manipulated him he could have said no. he didn't trust her with chuck. he was always jealous. and furthermore... blair didn't love him. so sorry. it wasn't that healthy. chuck is not an abuser HE HAS NEVER HIT HER! HE PUNCHED A WALL BEHIND HER AND GLASS BROKE AND CUT HER! omfg... his intention wasn't to hurt her. CHUCK HAS NEVER CHEATED ON HER. he slept with jenny at least after they were broken up! and selling her for a hotel... hmm. yeah that is pretty bad but blair had a choice not to go and she went. at least chuck never cheated on her! at least chuck trusted her.

and sorry. but chuck has CHANGED! he has changed a lot. he has tried letting her go. and every time she thinks he's finally let her go SHE RUNS BACK TO HIM! Blair is just as guilty. and Dan... sorry. he isn't mr. perfect. he also was the guy that ruined blair's wedding.

name something horrible that chuck has done THIS SEASON! the season where he has changed... something bad he's done to blair? because honestly he hasn't done anything wrong to her this season. he paid her dowery, he kissed her so she'd think he was bad even though he wasn't, he's been nothing but perfect to her this season... dan on the other hand... not so much.

STOP BRINGING UP CHUCK'S GOSH DARN PAST, DAIRS! HE'S CHANGED! WOULD YOU FRICKEN LIKE IT IF YOUR PAST WAS ALWAYS BROUGHT UP!?

    ReplyDelete
  91. i'd very much understand if chuck pulls another basstard thing after he pronounced a change... however... after he has changed for the better he's done nothing wrong! if he does something wrong to her in season six then you come find me, and i will more then likely agree he was in the wrong... and maybe dan was the better choice. but seeing as he's changed. and his ONE MISTAKE was selling her to the hotel which was more then two years ago... stop holding it against him. does that mean he doesn't deserve love!?

    ReplyDelete
  92. she chose Dan over Chuck? Not really. She went to Dan because he was safe. Like she said... he was the safe chose. She wanted to move on from Chuck to Dan because she knew Dan won't hurt her because she didn't love Dan the way she loves Chuck. If you remember... she also chose many other guys over Chuck... but in the end she always goes back to Chuck. Because she loves Chuck... and it scared her how much she loves him. I don't think Dan is any different then any of the other guys she's dated.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I actually agree with everything you said. But in a sense as well to have Dair they had to ruin Blair/Serena. So if anything in the end of it all Dair was what ruined Blair and Serena. Other then that I don't argue about anything else. I'm rather ticked they are putting Serena as a bitchy girl again. How are they supposed to revise that in like thirteen episodes?

And also... i've been ticked from the start... they've played the Chair/Dair triangle so wrong. For one. They didn't build up Blair's feelings at all for Dan. It was like she went from " OHMYGOSH. I love Chuck more and more each day. I want to be with him! But I can't because of this stupid will with god." which was the stupidest thing ever.

Dan's love for her was not random though, that's for sure. But then it was like BOOM Blair's kissing Dan after two episodes being in love with Chuck. Then it's like her main focus is now Dan with no Chuck interaction at all. Then the whole " I love you" thing comes up and she randomly seems to be interested in Chuck again. I'll admit... it was pretty random. It seemed like Dair was really into each other right until he mentioned Rome. Then she goes off into being in love with Chuck again.

I can see the anger. But chair's had to endure it as well. We were just as shocked when Blair started dating Dan after announcing her love for Chuck. it was like WTF.

But I guess if you play it all out in your head it's no surprise she went back to Chuck. THE gg writers sorta knew what they were doing. When Blair said she loved Chuck it never went away. It's kind of a typical Blair thing to do. Date someone else to get over Chuck. But it never works. I've got to say. The only reason why i'm happy with this episode is because

It ended with Chuck finally sticking up for himself and saying " Hey Blair! I'm done fighting for you!" and leaving it with Blair needing to fight for him. It's about time. But... yea if im being honest... this whole season seemed so RUSHED. and Blair was so out of character. It wasn't until Chuck's dad was back that I seen her finally back in character, and scheming again, and her minons that I felt we had the real Blair Waldorf back.

And her being " in love" with chuck isn't what i mean by her being back in character. I just mean the Blair Waldorf that gets what she wants. Schemes. And gets her minons to do her dirty work. haha. I missed that Blair so much!

  94. i don't get it, why are dair's just now deciding to comment on how blair and serena's friendship is ruined? did you not noticed it was destroyed the moment blair started dating serena? now you want to scold the writers for horrible writing? after dair is dead? really?

    ReplyDelete
  95. that would be because dair wasn't together that long. dair is not a main couple on the show. dair is like any other couple that has been on the show but with two main characters instead of a guest star. it wasn't a couple that was meant to last, eh.

    ReplyDelete
  96. wow. you're taking serena in a positive light. you know... i adore serena. i was really mad at her attitude by the end of the episode. now that i look at it i can see why she's so mad, and acting out again. she has worked hard for her job and becoming big. she loves dan... a lot more then blair ever has or ever could. to see her best friend dating him, even after blair knew serena loved him, had to be hard! then dan sleeps with her and acts like it's nothing. COMEON dan isn't mr. Innocent... he could have turned her down.

on top of that... you are right. she tried so hard to make sure gossip girl won't post more of blair's diary. she made some mistakes this season but she hasn't meant to harm blair. and to be honest... i don't think dan deserves either girls. i don't want derena back... and i was a huge fan of them in the first two seasons as well.

maybe i don't want dan with anyone though because i can't stand watching him on screen... that hair... i can't handle that hair... it's just... horrible. haha

  99. Blair and Serena dating? LOL. You mean Blair and Dan. Anyway, not only does your argument make no sense, but you make some big assumptions.  I've had issues with the writers' treatment of Serena and Nate's characters for a long time. So no, I am not "just now deciding to comment" (and how would you know this anyway?). This episode was particularly damaging to Serena and her friendship with Blair, which is why people had a problem with it. Most people who like Dair were fans of the show way before these two were friends, so it makes sense that we would be interested in the other characters too.

  100. I think it is sad that Blair tried to love Dan for these past few episodes but it didn't work. She loves Chuck. And it is such a disservice. There was nothing wrong with Chuck this year that she couldn't be with him. And to use Dan like that. It is sad for both fandoms. The writers just couldn't make anyone happy. I hope that they can in season 6.

  101. If I were to compare Gossip Girl to any soap, present or past, it would be the original Melrose Place.

All of those other shows (with the possible exception of Grey's Anatomy, which I've never watched), fall in the Beverly Hills, 90210/The WB string of "family drama". That's all well and good, but it's never been what Gossip Girl has been about.

That's kind of why Gossip Girl defined The CW network and was it's first staple show. Where Dawson's Creek was cloying, slow paced and sweet, Gossip Girl was sexy, fast-paced and dangerous. Where Gilmore Girls was in a small humble town of likeable characters, Gossip Girl was about a rich, classist society of anti-heroes and anti-heroines. It was, at the time, different.

I think you can point to the last two years of inconsistency, poor characterization and frustratingly ignoring their own character development and say "the show has dipped in quality", but  I don't really agree that there's ever been an inherent lack of consistency in the shows DNA.

  102. i honestly used to love this show so much. i am a huge chuck and blair fan and as happy as i am to see her fighting for him this episode lacked everything i used to love about the show and it was just kind of dragging drama out and i can honestly say i hated it.

I love it :). I hate that Serena slept with Dan, but I'm happy that blair realized that she loves chuck ^^. I'm glad that Dan is going to focus on his new book, even though we will write bad things about the upper east side. I don't like what they did with Serena, I truly believe that she have to change, for good, I want for the show to diagnoses her cancer, like her mum or cc, and for her to start slowly dying but changing for good, and asking for forgiveness, to dan, blair, and all her friends. Hopefully if she takes drugs now, she will have repercutions on her health. I want to see her changing for the better, I still love this series, even thought there have been to many couples, I still love each character.

I'm also taking serena side, she tried everything she could so blair wouldn't get hurt by gossip girl. the b&%$$%&n here was GG that continued to posting pages of her diarie. I hated that blair ruined serena's job opportunity, because she was finally starting again after lossing the blog and her inspiration. serena is on a crisis, she doesn't know what she's good at, what can she do in life, why love is hard on her, etc. She deserves a little break and good things, like love, studies, or job, something that keep her occupied. Love should come alone, nobody should go to find it. I didn't like that all that she grow in the beginning of this season went down when she decided to sleep with dan. that was a bad decision. I also believed that Nate is better for her, He always loved her, even way before Dan, I truly believed she needs to realize that, because in this season she decided that she loved dan just because he was in her memory her best boyfriend, but actually she dind't remember that nate also was a great boyfriend when they were together. Anyway I'm a fan of Chair, so I'm glad that she finnaly open her eyes. I hope the writer fix everything, I want chair and Nerena together. Dan should dedicate his full time on writting. And lily and rufus should go back together. Also in the last season somebody should die, to make it epic, I like Serena, but I think that her mum and cc has cancer, so she could propably has more chances to have the desease.

Did anyone feel that this episode has to many Jane Ausent references. Not the only one when her mother comment it to blair, but when I watched the scene of Blair telling that she dint't one to love chuck, but she could help her, in that moment, I feel like I was watching pride and prejudice, and she was Mr. Darcy and chuck was lizzie ^^. Does anyone feel the same?

  109. Most amazing episode of season 5! Blair finally behaved like Queen B and is now back to fight for her king. Can't wait for season 6 and a Chair wedding :)

  110. First - yeah, Dair did ruin the Serena/Blair friendship, in part, but it didn't have to.  Serena didn't like it, but she was handling it, and then boom!  Crazy jealous spiral.  So again, bad writer call on that one.

And absolutely Dair getting together was totally random on Blair's part.  Everything's been random on Blair's part.  She loves Chuck, marries Louis, runs off with Dan, tells Chuck to wait for her, has feelings for Dan, tells Chuck she doesn't love him (and unlike last year, actually seems to mean it), seems to be totally into Dan, and then suddenly is back in love with Chuck.  I think the writers have "twist" and "random ass, completely out of nowhere decisions" all mixed up.  Running off with Dan after the thing with Louis - twist.  Most people didn't see it coming, but it still made sense given the way the season had been written.  Blair saying that she was completely in love with Chuck and asking him to wait for her, then rejecting Chuck when she was free to be with him in favor of Dan, and seeming very sincere about the whole thing, only to suddenly run back to Chuck in the finale?  Not a twist.  Just annoying and confusing.  Why include Dair at all at that point?  Because honestly, I don't think this version of them made anybody happy.  Or maybe even wait until next season to get to Chair so there can be a proper storyline to transition out of Chair into Dair and then back out of Dair and into Chair.  My vote would've been not to go back to Chair at all, but realistically, I'd have been just fine with the other two options.  It's just the crazy, nonsensical, flip-flopping Blair version of events that came out with Chuck, Dan and especially Blair all becoming less likeable for having been in this poorly written triangle - in other words, the version they went with - is the only thing they could've done to annoy me.  Really, it was not hard to avoid.  They just went for the absolute worst possible choice, and I can't figure out why.  Do they really that's good TV?

    Sorry.  No more ranting.  Anyway.

I actually don't want Blair to go backwards to her old ways.  Absolutely they were fun at the time, but the main problem with this show is it keeps going backwards.  I'd like Blair to get a real, permanent job and use her minion-scaring tactics to run an office or magazine or what have you.  A little bit of the old Blair in a more confident career woman who knows to keep the bossiness and backstabbing at work instead of in her personal life.  I think that would be a good way to keep the character fun and move her forward at the same time.  And there are probably ways to do that with all the characters, but instead we just keep running the same track over and over.  Oh, well.

  111. I don't judge the quality of a show by its genre. What a show is "about", is not synonymous with quality. I doubt that the show was meant to be about crappy writing and character assassination, but it happened.
