Obviously I'm in the minority here, but I thought it very realistic that Rachel was the one to get her dream. If anyone has a chance, it's her. She was willing to defer for Finn and Kurt, but they didn't let her, and Finn did what he had to do to give that chance to her. That's what it's all about folks, letting someone you love pursue their dreams even if it is without you. I thought it was a lovely ending for the season.
very upset that kurt who did great on his nyada audition didn't get in, but rachel did. it's typical glee that rachel's dream has to come true. very glad that mercedes got signed as a back-up singer, but i hope we see her sometimes next season. everything else was just alright
I thought that as well. I lived in NY Briefly so know what you were saying, But im from London and they do the same thing on shows set there. She would have to have the stamina of a marathon runner to cover that much ground just swanning around. And it would take ages on foot. She would be knackered!!!!
I agree with many of you. The finale was just "blah" for me also. They didn't show any focus on some of the characters graduating and the music was just okay.
The only reason I didn't like that Rach got is that Kurt didn't when he's audition went perfectly and rachel CHOKED. I'm sorry in real life you don't get second chances (not in the same year ahha) so that wasn't really realistic for me. but I would have been okay with it if Kurt got it too ahah. Just makes me feel like they did that for the "shock" effect. if thats even a thing hhaaha
I'm sad Time of my life by Greenday got cut. They cut a LOT of things this season. Please use the dvd and put them on. Gift scene, warblers number, songs, extended scenes.... yeah. please. RIB
If Kurt was a woman, this would me the most sexist comment ever. Still it is pretty offensive and derogatory to Kurt, How can you say that his dreams don't matter because he got a boyfriend? Would you say the same about Rachel if it was her who didn't get into?
I call bs on this. Kurt's voice is way more unique and special than Rachel's is. Every school has a girl like Rachel. She'll get to NYADA and realize she's not the super special snowflake everyone has told her she is.
How in the world did Rachel get accepted, and not Kurt? I would understand if they BOTH got accepted, but Kurt didn't choke on the NYADA audition, Rachel did. And Kurt did an outstanding number for his. Yet somehow, he didn't get in, but Rachel did? Doesn't make any sense.
I have to say, the scene between Quinn and Sue was touching. I loved seeing Sue all emotional and crying. It made her seem more real.
I liked the nods to the performances/events of the first season and the ep was appropriately sappy, but much of it (most of the performances) felt really heavy handed to me: Finn and Puck playing/singing while they were receiving their diplomas was a bit much and the Quinn/Puck thing felt way out of left field and was forced just for the finale to me. I'm a little surprised that they didn't have Kurt go to NY with Rachel, but would've been surprised if Finn did get accepted - all series long other than offering to run lines with Rachel back in S1, he's never shown the desire to act. I'm glad that they pointed out that Brittany was a poor student and wouldn't be graduating , although it doesn't say much about the fictitious McKinley teachers/guidance counselors as most schools wouldn't let you participate in any activities: sports, cheerleading, and student government. So bad on Mr Shue, Sue, and Emma for not trying to help her (and Puck for that matter). The ending song sequence was great and Finn setting Rachel free was perhaps the best writing of the ep as Finn/Rachel did the most adult thing that could be done, so kudos for that. I'm not sure how the show will be/look next season, but unless I read/hear differently from reviews, I feel that this ep might be a good/fitting point for me to close the book and let this show go.
The best part of the entire finale was the Roz / Sue / Quinn sequence. Its everything that's great about the non-musical aspects of Glee in one small segment.
I suppose this was a good enough note for me to go out on, as I have decided not to follow Glee into their fourth season. Farewell, Glee. It was fun for a while.
The end was perfect because Rachael was the only character that knew what she wanted since the beginning. She worked hard for it, was persistent and got talent.
It reminded me of Marlo Thomas in "That Girl." Perhaps a bit of an tie to that. The opening of That Girl had her twirling in the street in a similar outfit and hat. Just a thought.
I loved the finale. It reminded me of my own HS graduation so very long ago. I loved the music and enjoyed the closing of some stories and the opening of others. It seemed a perfect Glee ending.
Wasn't SJP only signed on for one episode? Maybe Kurt goes to visit Rachel in NYC and will get some advice from SJP or something ridiculous like that...
I loved Burt Hummel's dance!! Best TV Dad ever....that was so cute!! The flashbacks to the pilot were cute, and I liked Sue and Quinn's moment....but as far as the finale as a whole, I liked it, but it def. was FLAT!!!! But I didn't hate it.
It's a metaphor for the show itself. Season after season the show will drag on, only to end up back at the place it started...Rachel is enormously talented and perfect and and angel and she's gonna be the biggest start ever. Lea is a phenomenal talent, but I cannot suffer her character.
I LOVED: the end of Finchel (finally!), Puck making a heart to Rachel, Klaine, Rachel going to NY and NOT getting married
I HATED: That Rachel only went to NY because Finn forced her to and not because she knows that following your dreams is MORE important than following a guy, not having enough Klaine, no Mike and Tina goodbye, never any freaking appreciation for Puck, but always room for more Finn adoration.
I HOPE: Finn NEVER returns to this show. Nothing against Cory, but I can't stand Finn or Finchel!
They ended like this to keep us interested,I've said that i wont watch glee after this season finale but after watching this episode I cnt wait season 4 how will things work out with kurt,puck<3,QUICK <3 finchel after that breakup or sth like that And ofc Santana,Quinn and Rachel in New York that is for me the most interesting part, So yeah I am really looking forward to season 4
I knew Rachel would get in and Kurt wouldnt. Rachel is the better singer by a country mile. Kurt can carry a tune but he sounds like a woman (and not in a good way) at times and I thought his audition was crap, prancing around in gold pants do make equate to star quality.
I still expect Kurt at least to end up in NY and I hope Finn too.
Brittany not graduating was a bit obvious really, she's as dumb as a post and it was clear that the writers wanted to keep some of the original cast around at the school.
I kind of liked that a lot of the episode was devoted to looking back, instead of looking forward - I suppose that's what it had to be, since the format and exact future of the show is still pretty undecided at this point. But still, I loved looking back at how it all began, and enjoyed seeing how far everyone had truly come.
I have to admit - my biggest shocker was seeing that Kurt didn't get into NYADA. I didn't expect everyone to get a magical happy ending, and I figured Rachel and Finn would end up splitting while she pursued her dream, but I didn't see Kurt's rejection coming at all. I wonder what he's going to do now?
All in all, though, I think it was a pretty satisfying finale. I enjoyed it, and I'm curious to see how next season is going to work.
I'm with you on this one - I'm still shocked that Kurt didn't get in, since his audition was excellent, but I think it makes total sense that Rachel is the one who was seen heading off to pursue her Broadway dreams. Everything leading up to this moment would have been so strange if she was left in Lima twiddling her thumbs for a year.
It does seem weird that Rachel got her second chance, especially after everything Whoopi Goldberg's character said about what happens if you screw up on Broadway, but I think it ended up making sense in a way. Her persistence, coupled with the endorsements from Tina and Jesse, and her reminding Carmen whatserface about how SHE actually failed four times before getting into Juilliard... I don't know, I think Carmen saw a little bit of herself in Rachel. Still, it's sad to think that Rachel may have taken a slot away from Kurt, who had a spectacular audition.
Awwww... I didn't know they were slated to sing that song. Now I'm sad. I could have done without Will's rendition of Forever Young, to be honest. He's been so obsolete as it is this season, they definitely could have swapped the two out haha
Your making the assumption that NYADA is the only way for Kurt's dream to actually come true. NYADA was just one avenue he could have taken to success, I'm sure he'll get other chances that the writers can explore that are different to the journey Rachel takes to achieve her dream.
I'm glad that they derailed the marriage train, but you're right - I hate that Rachel couldn't make that decision for herself. I get that she's changed and has grown over the years, good for her for making friends and all, but she used to understand that her dream had to come first. If she and Finn are in the cards, they'll make it happen down the line. But she has to know that she'd never be totally happy if she dropped her dream because she thought it'd make her boyfriend happy. Thank goodness Finn understood that, because I was really annoyed at the prospect of her staying in Lima all next year.
I would have been afraid for the show's integrity if they allowed Brittany to graduate. Seriously, who was going to believe that? And I'm agreed with the stuff about Kurt vs. Rachel, though I did enjoy his unique audition, and have no doubt he'll end up in NY anyway. Rachel's simply more marketable.
NYADA is a school where wannabee stars go to learn, it can give them a leg up but it does not guarentee success. It'llo be hard work and lots of competition. No one would expect Rachel to walk in there and become an instant star and even if Rachel does she'll learn pretty quick what a dog eat world it can be.
As for Kurt he doesnt have the best voice and I thought his audition was really bad. I still think he can have a successful future without NYADA.
I didn't hate the decision necessarily, but I'm definitely annoyed by it. I get that he has unresolved feelings about who his dad really was, but he just seems so confused about where he wants to go with his life... and I don't think the army's the best option. I think it's just easy.
Rachel and Finn's scene in the car was the best scene of the episode for me! I think it was really mature of him to let Rachel go and show her what was best for her even if she couldn't see it! As for the army, I think his decision is totally misguided and I felt like his whole realization that he wanted to pursue acting as a career went out of the window! Like it never happened. That's where the writing felt a little off. I'm happy they didn't get married. It seemed like the wrong decision anyway, in this age. To me at least. Puck/Quinn was just weird. Like a 10 year old stole the script and added the scene or something. I wanted Kurt in New York with Rachel, but I'm sure that will happen at some point, even without NYADA. And of course Burt was awesome! The only song I actually liked and remember was Will's in the beginning. I think the best about this episode was that it did surprise as in where we're going in season 4 and made me expect something more interesting as S4 that what I had originally in mind! Time will show!
I think the whole Rachel vs. Kurt Nyada-discussion is missing the point. What I personally thought was so terrible about the whole thing was that Rachel's arc was resolved while nobody gave a sh*t about Kurt! He's just as popular with the audience, yet his last line of the season is "I didn't get in" - and that's it. Not even a small mention about how he's going to get out of Lima no matter what or something like that. Every senior got some kind of plan, except for Kurt Hummel - the one who always wanted to get out of this cowtown. Why doesn't he deserve a happy ending? Some kind of payoff? What an awful thing to do to such an inspiring character and his talented portrayer!
This isn't about Rachel not deserving Nyada, it's about Kurt deserving some kind of happiness too.
"I don't know, I think Carmen saw a little bit of herself in Rachel." That only makes it worst for me. She tried out 4 times aka if you really want it, you'll come back next year and prove everybody wrong.
I get that it's a tv show ahah, so they can say Finn wants to be an actor out of the blue, and Kurt don't get in after a fantastic audition and all but that's doesnt change that it was bull"crap" . :D
That said. I love glee ahha, gonna watch next year no matter what. I don't care where Kurt is as long as I still have him on the show
Yes. It's released though so we can listen to it but I was really sad to not see it on my tv :( After 3 seasons you'ld think they knew how to write a script that works in the time they have. but no ahha
Yeah, I get that :) And I have no idea what they're trying to do with Finn... it was random enough that he decided to be an actor, but now he thinks the next logical step is the army? I get that he has some unresolved feelings toward his dad, but really?
LOL I forgot about the army ahha omg. Though rachel's reaction was perfect ahha so that help me get over it. I just don't see him get through with it. how will he be in season 4 if he does ? `:D
I'm still confused about how Season 4's going to go period. I don't think the producers have even figured it out yet... I think it's going to be weird!
Yeah when Santana started talking about NY I thought it made sense. Santana/Finn/Rach and Kurt in NY and the others in highschool. I didnt think we would follow the others. Maybe Puck if he stayed in Ohio. but yeah that was that. but now I really don't get it. They just keep telling us bull, "a show within a show" "Amazing idea" llala the actors say its awesome and then 2 weeks later they say they dont know whats happening i mean cmon
For all who can't believe that Rachel got in, when Kurt didn't, purely on the strength of their auditions... You are ignoring the whole educational background and focusing purely on the audition. Rachel was a straight-A student, involved in every club she could get her ass into, was lead soloist for the glee club, lead in the school musical, while Kurt only had glee. That was a whole plotline early in the season, and why he decided to run for class president, and why Rachel cheated on the voting nearly costing her any shot at NYADA. I totally get your frustration, and would have been much happier had Kurt get in, but I can see why he didn't. Being an educational institution, and a very exclusive one at that, they require a demonstration not only of talent and potential, but also of hard-work, dedication, and involvement. If the audition had been for a show, Broadway or off, Kurt would have nailed it, and Rachel would have stood very little chance for a second try. Overall, I found the whole episode frustrating... while they did tie up some fun plotlines (my fave moment was when Mr. Schue confessed to Finn, and got the best and most unexpected response), I hated nearly every song. It showcased the worst of the writing and directing and sheer all-over-the-place-ness of this show. Such a far cry from the pilot, and from the best this show can be. I'd have been much happier had this ended with the Nationals episode. The future is just as clouded as ever... it'll be interesting to see how this mess resolves itself, but I'm not sure I'll be watching. Going back to school to get my masters, won't be much time for tv, and I'll have to save it for shows that are worth the investment. I wish Glee still made that list...
It was sad, but I think it was also pretty fitting if you consider where the show began. Still, I don't think she'll be the only one there when season 4 opens. I hope Kurt's not going to give up, and I think Santana may be moving out there as well. I think we might be surprised to discover how many people are actually out there trying to make it work when the season opens.
I'm actually really glad you mentioned this - I had completely forgotten about the rest of the application. Though it might seem like the audition is the only (important?) basis on which they should be judged, it's crazy to think that. It's a school that's going to want well-rounded individuals, and Rachel painstakingly spent her high school career ensuring that she looked good on an application.
For me it didn't really answer any of my questions about where everyone would be. It felt very slapdash like the story wasn't properly thought through.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Really hoping that Rachel does not come back next season! But probably wont happen. Anyways, good season finale!
ReplyDeleteSo many mixed feelings about this episode!
ReplyDeleteAwful because Kurt didn't get into nyada
ReplyDeleteI didn't get that either... really disappointing! And Finn joining the Army? Argh, i have no words.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Sarah Jessica Parker can persuade Kurt into fashion in New York? That can be cool.
ReplyDeleteI really like Dylan, the episode when he sing's "i just wanna do you" it's my favourite....
ReplyDeleteKurt got Blaine! So that makes up for all the hell it went through. That was his ~reward.
ReplyDeleteHate this rachel berry show, she choked and get it, Kurt was perfect and failed, Glee is the joke of the century, the writers need to stop writing
ReplyDeleteThe ending was very unexpecting, but very confused. I wonder how Kurt is going to New York & who all actually ends up there. I really hope Finn does
ReplyDeleteShe's coming back.
ReplyDeleteObviously I'm in the minority here, but I thought it very realistic that Rachel was the one to get her dream. If anyone has a chance, it's her. ReplyDeleteGot very confused with the last scene. For anyone who lives or knows New York- why was she going in circles?
ReplyDeleteRachel can make the difference in a show, Kurt, cannot.
ReplyDeleteI thought that as well. I lived in NY Briefly so know what you were saying, But im from London and they do the same thing on shows set there. She would have to have the stamina of a marathon runner to cover that much ground just swanning around. And it would take ages on foot. She would be knackered!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with many of you. The finale was just "blah" for me also. They didn't show any focus on some of the characters graduating and the music was just okay.
ReplyDeleteomg wait yeah they said she was Kurt's mentor. what is up with this. I WANT TO KNOW! *sigh*
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I didn't like that Rach got is that Kurt didn't when he's audition went perfectly and rachel CHOKED. I'm sorry in real life you don't get second chances (not in the same year ahha) so that wasn't really realistic for me. but I would have been okay with it if Kurt got it too ahah.

Then is not "hoping" its "wishing". Hope is about possibility, even if small.

Learn the word "sarcasm," re-read my comment, and try again, please.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say that. The Glee writers did.
Yeah, in my defense, I have seen Klainers that think like this and that Blaine is too good for Kurt.
ReplyDeleteAnd seriously dude, Sarcasm doesn't translate well into text. You have to make it more overt; deadpan just doesn't work without the gestural cues.
I am sorry for missconstructing though, I think I have spent to much time talking with hardcore Klainers that say stuff just like that.
They ended like this to keep us interested,I've said that i wont watch glee after this season finale
ReplyDeletebut after watching this episode I cnt wait season 4 how will things work out with kurt,puck<3,QUICK <3 finchel after that breakup or sth like that
And ofc Santana,Quinn and Rachel in New York that is for me the most interesting part,
So yeah I am really looking forward to season 4
What the hell was that?? This was such a let down compared to last week's double episode!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a little predictable to ne honest.
ReplyDeleteI knew Rachel would get in and Kurt wouldnt. Rachel is the better singer by a country mile. Kurt can carry a tune but he sounds like a woman (and not in a good way) at times and I thought his audition was crap, prancing around in gold pants do make equate to star quality.

ReplyDelete*sigh* oh. Yeah. They would do that. those ******
ReplyDeleteBurt's dance moves are even funnier than Fin's
ReplyDeleteGreat episode, the songs, the emocional moments, can't wait for season 4.
ReplyDeleteBurt dance is funny was hell hahahaah

ReplyDeletethey're just taking different paths to potential stardom, its not going to be easy for either of them.

ReplyDeleteThis isn't about Rachel not deserving Nyada, it's about Kurt deserving some kind of happiness too.
"I don't know, I think Carmen saw a little bit of herself in Rachel." That only makes it worst for me. She tried out 4 times aka if you really want it, you'll come back next year and prove everybody wrong.
ReplyDeleteI get that it's a tv show ahah, so they can say Finn wants to be an actor out of the blue, and Kurt don't get in after a fantastic audition and all but that's doesnt change that it was bull"crap" . :D
That said. I love glee ahha, gonna watch next year no matter what. I don't care where Kurt is as long as I still have him on the show
Yes. It's released though so we can listen to it but I was really sad to not see it on my tv :( After 3 seasons you'ld think they knew how to write a script that works in the time they have. but no ahha
ReplyDeleteYeah, I get that :) And I have no idea what they're trying to do with Finn... it was random enough that he decided to be an actor, but now he thinks the next logical step is the army? I get that he has some unresolved feelings toward his dad, but really?
ReplyDeleteSad to see Rachel the only one moving to New York.
ReplyDeleteLOL I forgot about the army ahha omg. Though rachel's reaction was perfect ahha so that help me get over it. I just don't see him get through with it. how will he be in season 4 if he does ? `:D
ReplyDeleteI'm still confused about how Season 4's going to go period. I don't think the producers have even figured it out yet... I think it's going to be weird!
ReplyDeleteYeah when Santana started talking about NY I thought it made sense.
ReplyDeleteFor all who can't believe that Rachel got in, when Kurt didn't, purely on the strength of their auditions...
ReplyDeleteOverall, I found the whole episode frustrating... while they did tie up some fun plotlines (my fave moment was when Mr.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually really glad you mentioned this - I had completely forgotten about the rest of the application. Though it might seem like the audition is the only (important?) basis on which they should be judged, it's crazy to think that. It's a school that's going to want well-rounded individuals, and Rachel painstakingly spent her high school career ensuring that she looked good on an application.
ReplyDeleteReally really horrible. Should have ended with Nationals. Ah well. I will look on S1 with fondness and forget 2/3
ReplyDeleteFor me it didn't really answer any of my questions about where everyone would be. It felt very slapdash like the story wasn't properly thought through.
