POLL : What did you think of Glee - Choke?

  1. Yes! I love non-tribute Glee episodes, with music ranging from punk rock to Broadway. While it still feels like more of a drama than a comedy, this episode was pretty awesome.

My only complaints have to do with the writers' tendency of inserting jokes during tender and emotional moments (Sue and Brittany's comments about Bieste's size), as well as Sue sudden change of heart, after for the past two seasons she physically abused students in the hallways.

Otherwise, I'd say this was one of the best episodes this season.

  2. Wow... Lea Michele and Dot Marie Jones really packed a punch tonight. I think some of Glee's best episodes are actually their dramas - topics like teen suicide and domestic violence are both incredibly important and relevant, and they did tonight's episode very well, a few inappropriate jokes aside. Rachel's dream being shattered was always a possibility of course, but it still hit me hard. She's arguably the most confident person in the group, and to see her mess up the lyrics to a song so ingrained in her being was heartbreaking. It was strange to see her so shaken, and I never thought I'd see it end that way.

There was some pretty great music tonight, too. I actually really enjoyed School's Out - Alice Cooper makeup aside, it actually might be my favorite Puck song to date. Kurt's fun rendition of Not the Boy Next Door had me smiling the whole time, Shake it Out gave me the chills, and Rachel's take on Cry had me tearing up. The boys' weird rock take on My Fair Lady was kind of grating, though.

  3. The joking rubbed me the wrong way, too. It kind of cheapened what they were trying to do by tackling such a sensitive issue. And I've been a bit confused by Sue's changes, too. She shoves students in the hallways all the time, and no one's safe when she goes on a petulant rampage if she doesn't get her way, but sometimes she's the polar opposite. She advocated for Kurt when Karofsky was terrifying him back in season 2, and was so ready to help Coach Beiste tonight. I don't know what they're doing there, but it's kind of inconsistent.

  4. This episode was great. One thing I love about Glee: they help raise awareness of the troubles many people go through every day. Being gay, abuse, pregnancy, being bullied, etc.

Anyway, I was heartbroken for Rachel, and I cried when she cried. She deserved to get a second chance. She was so supportive of Kurt, even when she basically failed her audition. She's changed so much since the first season, and I can't help but be glad about that.

Sad about Puck, too. He had a dick of a dad; no wonder he turned out the way he did. After seeing his dad, I really, really wanted Puck to do well, so he wouldn't end up like him.

Bieste being abused was just so heartbreaking and sad. And those scenes with her husband (I forgot his name) were just so..awful. And I felt for her when she said that she didn't want to leave him because she thought he was the only one who would ever want her.

So, overall, this was basically one of the saddest episodes on Glee, IMO.

  5. while i like lea michele, i hate the character rachel and her not getting into the school was realistic. some of the best people make mistakes and that is what happened with her. she got a second chance and she blew it too, so i hope that they don't somehow make her still able to get in. beiste was great in this episode and i really felt for her, and her going back to her husband in the end is realistic also because that is usually the case with people in domestic abuse situations. the songs in this episode weren't that great.

  7. Okay episode.
     - Berry choking during her audition was a nice way to go.  It's an interesting turn of events.
     - I think this episode proved to me that I no longer care about Puck as a character at all.
     - Another great episode for Dot Marie Jones.  They write better stuff for her than most of the students ever get.
     - I LOVE the Roz / Sue conversations.  They are the absolute best.
     - I could have done without Glee butchering Alice Cooper.  That was cringeworthy.
     - There were some really ill-conceived punchlines during some pivotal dramatic scenes.  Disappointing.
