The Office - Season 9 - Greg Daniels returning as showrunner?

The importance of comedy was underlined by NBC executives’ efforts to shore up “The Office,” a mainstay of its Thursday sitcom block. After protracted negotiations, “The Office” will return with most of its cast intact for what may be one last season, and its creator, Greg Daniels, will be back at work, too.

Mr. Daniels, the original supervisor for “The Office,” is expected to return in a hands-on capacity, Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in an interview. (Paul Lieberstein left that role at the end of last season.)

  1. Um, awesome if this is true! But what about Parks and Rec? Is Mike Schur in charge over there?

  3. Mike Schur is doing a good job running parks and recreation ;)

I think Greg had only been supervising both shows while he developed another comedy for NBC (can't recall if that was picked up as well), but that's good that he's coming back in a more hands on approach. Not sure who could take over from him, though I'm sure BJ Novak could have done a good job (again, not sure if he went to Mindy's show or stayed on at The Office).

  4. NBC should have a "good riddance" party next May where they have the finales for Community, 30 Rock and The Office all on the same night, kind of like ABC did for MacGyver, Growing Pains and Who's The Boss 20 years ago.

Just because Community is having 13 episodes doesn't mean its the last season. Don't you think, if it was already decided, they would've announced it being the last like they did with 30 rock?

  6. That would be fantastic, actually...

  7. No. By which I mean No, there's no reason to think that they would announce a full season right now. It's May and they've already decided to a half of a fourth season. I wish I could hold my breath for a season 4.5 or 5 for Community. But it's entirely up to the discretion of NBC/Universal. Hell, they removed Dan Harmon as showrunner out of nowhere. There's no reason for us to anticipate/expect/be entitled to anything. Yes, anything's possible. But let's just see.
