Thanks to Tara for the heads up.

ilot screenings are just getting under way at the broadcast networks, but already some projects are pulling away from the pack vying for slots on the 2012-13 primetime sked.

There was lots of chatter Tuesday about comedies gaining steam.

NBC has warmly embraced Ryan Murphy's "The New Normal," as the show has begun making staffing offers. Anne Heche starrer "Save Me" is also rising fast, spurring speculation that the Peacock sees those shows as candidates to premiere in August following its Summer Olympics coverage along with "Go On," the Matthew Perry comedy that was given an early pickup last month.

At CBS, "Partners," from Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, is red-hot. "Entry Level," from feature scribe Nick Stoller, has momentum, as does the Greg Malins-Greg Berlanti collaboration dubbed "Oh Fk, It's You."

At ABC, "Only Fools and Horses," starring John Leguizamo, and Sarah Chalke starrer "How to Live with Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life" have been warmly received in screenings. Kal Penn starrer "Prairie Dogs," Portia de Rossi's "The Smart One" and Kyle Bornheimer's "Red Van Man" are also in the mix. There were mixed reports about the latest reactions to early fave "American Judy," starring Judy Greer. Reba McEntire's "Malibu Country" is still seen as a strong contender.

Fox's half-hour hotlist is topped by the untitled Mindy Kaling starrer and the ensembler "Rebounding." "El Jefe," from sitcom vets Moses Port and David Guarascio; "Little Brother," from Mike Royce; single mom vehicle "Ned Fox Is My Manny"; and "The Goodwin Games," from the "How I Met Your Mother" trio of Chris Harris, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are still on the radar.

NBC's shortlist also includes the White House-set "1600 Penn," Greg Daniels' "Friday Night Dinner," Justin Kirk starrer "Animal Kingdom" and the untitled buddy vehicle produced by Jimmy Fallon.

Dramas gaining traction at ABC include Marc Cherry's latest, "Devious Maids"; sudsers "Americana" and "Nashville"; and Shawn Ryan's "The Last Resort." NBC is high on hospital vehicle "County" and mystery "Midnight Sun." At Fox, the buzz was building for the Rob Wright-Josh Berman project about a femme Mafia doctor.

  1. I love hearing about the pilots. Can't wait for Upfronts!

  2. This seems to reiterate most of what Deadline has reported already with very few contradictions.

  3. Surprised about the Gilded Lilys no mention, I thought it was quite the lock. Good to hear Last Resort and Americana are gaining momentum though.

  4. Deadline is usually most accurate though alot has been happening this week  with ABC, CW, NBC and FOX doing larger screenings
and some highly buzzed pilots supposedly not screening as well as expected (The Selection)  i am anxiously waiting for Deadline's next update

  5.  I always assumed the only real draw that The Selection held was its ability to glom onto The Hunger Games' popularity.  As for 666 Park, weren't reviews for that pilot mixed from the get-go?

  6. so the selection is losing monumentum?? I read on the site, that the screening were good.
I hope cw will pick it up, there is NO WAY that Carrie's dairies will do better than a show so similar to the worldwide success of Hunger games

  7.  The Selection still has to stand on its own merits.  If the only positive aspect of the pilot is its resemblance to another franchise then it's probably not a good idea to green light it.

  8. I read a lot of entusiastic review of the script. I hope it turns to be a great series. We'll see... last year i remember there were problems with Hart of dixie, because of Rachel Bilson. But at last it was picked up :D

  9. some people that had seen the  pilot told me their personal opinion/that they really liked the pilot but then i read a tweet recently that the CW Selection screening did not go well we'll see what deadline say in their next update

  10.  I'll be looking forward to that also.  The Deadline updates are much more comprehensive.

  11. I'm hoping Last Resort gets picked up! :)

    Any word on Abrams' Revolution?

  12. Variety is a like school-newspaper. They kinda just make news about things people already know..

  13. There's been a lot of radio silence over Revolution, which I really don't understand.
Considering the people involved in that project I find it very weird. If it was good, I'm sure we'd be hearing about it. But also if it was doing really badly we'd be getting info about that too, simply because of it's pedigree.

    *scratches head*

  14. Well I think the article mostly focuses on the comedy pilots. There's just that off hand mention of only a couple of dramas in the end...

  15. Glad to read some of the comedies that had me intrigued seem to be doing well....

  16. No word on 666 Park Ave?? I hope it still has a chance...

  17. Yeah, for a moment there I started to wonder if it hadn't been completely dropped. You hear so very little about it for about a month now.

Perhaps they were literally blown away? ;)

  18. Seeing as they've been "staffing" for it maybe.... ;D

(I just read that so YAY!...)

  19. Yeah, just read the deadline article too! I feel silly now! :P

  20. Hey! It was not out before, and we were right, there's been very little noise over the pilot.
We are both absolutelly justified! No reason to feel silly ;D

  21. Not even a little bit? ;)
