  3. I find the title interesting. Seventy-two hours is 3 days. In last night's episode, Richmond said the election is in 4 days. Stan said it has been 3 weeks since Rosie's death, which was October 5th. That would mean that last night's episode would have taken place on or about October 26th. Four days would be October 30th. But election day 2012 is on November 6th.

Nevertheless, supposing election day is truly 4 days away, then 72 hours would bring us to election eve. My guess is the title refers to Richmond's concern about how much time he has to persuade the public. Perhaps some truth comes out on election eve that sways the election.

  4. The series doesn't take place in 2012 because Season One began in semi-real time last year. Each episode is only about a day of the investigation, so less than a month of time has passed in the story. Mayoral elections also aren't always held on national election days.

I think 72 Hours is an interesting title as well but I don't think it has to do with how much time is left. It could be how long Linden has been put temporarily in the psych ward for evaluation but I think it's about the time between Rosie going missing and the time her body was found. Rosie went missing on the Friday night before the series began and her body was uncovered from the lake in Discovery Park on the following Monday night, the first day of the series. The investigation up to this point has tracked Rosie's whereabouts definitively into the early hours of Saturday. (She took the 11:45 Adela ferry, went missing from the 10th floor of the casino after midnight, per her voicemail to Alexi.) The autopsy performed on Rosie indicated that she couldn't have been dead for more than a day and also said that she was alive when she went into the lake, making drowning her cause of death. This means that while the detectives are focusing on where Rosie was on Friday night, they have yet to do anything about the fact that their evidence suggests she was alive through Saturday night. They have to figure out Rosie's entire whereabouts for the 72 Hours she was missing before they found her body if they want to have any hope of figuring out who killed her.
