Jericho - Netflix Eyes Cancelled Show

1 May 2012

Apocalypse now? TV Guide Magazine confirms that Netflix has approached CBS about reviving cult fave Jericho — and the network, through its CBS TV Studios production arm, is considering it. The drama, which followed the residents of a small Kansas town in the wake of a nuclear attack, has been off the air since 2008.

Repeats of Jericho remain popular on Netflix's on-demand service, even four years after the show's cancellation. Insiders say Netflix execs would love to emulate the revival of Fox's Arrested Development, which is expected to return on Netflix with new episodes in 2013, seven years after the show ended its run. Like Arrested fans, Jericho's are a passionate bunch: CBS renewed the post-apocalyptic show for a second season in 2007 after viewers bombarded the network with cases of peanuts.

  1. If they could actually get the cast together -- heck yes!  I'd be there with bells on.  :)

  2. If they can get all the cast back I'd love it!

  3. Hell, if they're gonna do Jericho, where's my season 4 of Veronica Mars, people?

  4. That would be really cool!! The whole cast has to join though.

The cancellation of Jericho was one of my biggest dissapointments, I'm used to shows being cancelled but I thought this had such potential. A third season would be a amazing. I look forward to hearing the developments.

  6. Seriously? There are so many better cancelled shows out there and they consider THIS?

  7. Not a fan of Jericho, or Arrested Devlopment for that matter, but I love the fact that 2 dead and gone shows can be resurrected after all this time.  Kind of gives a little bit of hope for shows I do like that were cancelled way too early.  Not that I expect a Firefly revival anytime soon (that would always be my first choice but the cast have just moved on too much for that) but there are quite a few other shows that would work...

  8. That's only the 17th show they're "eyeing" this year. Not gonna happen.

I don't always like Tv by the numbers but you got to admit, all this eyeing is getting ridiculous now.

But if that's how rumors start, I got a list of awesome yet prematurely cancelled shows :

    - Bored to Death.
    - Party Down.
    - Rubicon.
    - Terriers.
    - The Chicago Code.
    - Caprica.
    - The Event.
    - United States of Tara.
    - Pushing Daisies.
    - Better Off Ted.
    - Kings.

Not all of them had bad endings, but all of them were awesome and I'm sure they still had plenty of life in them.

So, Netflix, you produce new seasons of all those shows, and why don't you throw in a Dr Horrible series while you're at it, okay ?

  9. what has this got to do with TVBTN?

  10. I loved Season 1 of Jericho, but Season 2 lost me honestly... it felt like a different show to me almost and the end was rushed and just meh.

I keep reading Bell say she wants to do some more Mars.. as does Rob Thomas so I have hope.... very small hope, but hope!

I was inspired by my current rewatch of the series. I found a HQ version of the poster online and tweaked the colors and grain a bit to match the original more and then adjusted to fit my room a bit better. I have it on my entertainment room wall as a poster.

Only if it has the same cast.  It wouldn't be the same otherwise.

  12. Oh my God, please! Just get the cast back!

  13. Really? Netflix eyes Terra Nova, The River, Jericho, and nothing happens anyway.

  14. They love to report this type of rumors and mock fans who think this kind of thing will ever pan out, and in general I noticed they also enjoy to look down on fans of some current low-rated / fan-favorite shows (their Fan-Excuse Bingo thing, among other things). Their tone might be patronizing but after all they're right, recently Netflix has been eyeing Reno 911, Terra Nova, The River... it won't happen. I bet Awake or Alcatraz, if they get cancelled, will be eyed for a moment by Netflix as well.

  15. Hell Yes!! I Just Finished watching this on Netflix Last Week.

  16. afaik they've never been the first to report any of these rumors, though

  17. Exactly, they've been trying to put it back together for years, I don't know if Jericho's cast has kept up with that or if they've moved on, but even with KB on House of Lies, I just can't see why they haven't approached Rob Thomas about this yet.

  18. The words "brilliant" and "awesome" do not accurately describe the unbelievably terrible "The Event"...

Everything else on the list is fine by me.

  19. Which means they like to look at stuff, and see the reaction people give them. They get credit for re-igniting a bunch of fans' adoration for a show and then they don't even have to follow through.

It's kind've a terrible way to get "news" about Netflix and their ventures through the people that are most likely to like and/or subscribe to their service.

  20. Honestly Netflix should do this but they better be prepared to alienate all the people they disappoint by not bringing back EVERY fan favorite. Some things should stay cancelled. Even if you do miss these shows more than anything else. Btw please bribng back Heroes and The Event

  22. Netflix eyes cancelled show must be the easiest headline to write these days. Is journalism that easy because damn someone get me a job

  23. Netflix eyes X-Files comeback

    ReplyDelete
  24. I can actually imagine this kind of headline happening

This is disappointing. There are SO many other, better, cancelled shows to choose from (Men of a Certain Age and Terriers for example)

  26. Jeez, Andy... Watch it now, O_O you could start (online ranting) riots with stuff like that.

  27. Apparently it is watched a lot on Netflix and is one of its most popular shows.  Sounds like a good plan for Netflix to give small cult shows who still have rabid fans a chance at closure.  Any hardcore Jericho fan who doesn't have a Netflix subscription yet will be racing to sign up IF (and it's still way up in the air) it does go through.  I expect to hear something for Legend of the Seeker in the next couple of years.

  28. I agree completely.  In order to be able to finish the thriller aspect of the show (which I did appreciate) they had to cut way back on the  cast and consequently a lot of the elements that I loved about the show either got haphazardly shut down fast (causing some characters to behave oddly)  or just dropped.    I'm not sure I want to go back.

There are shows I'd love to bring back, but neither Veronica Mars or Jericho are on that list.  (Would grown up Veronical, really be the same character today?)

  29. You know, after thinking about this a bit...I think I'd rather this energy go to some really good new shows that never hit major broadcast numbers no mater how good they are.   I'm thinking  things like hardcore sci fi, major arc type series.   Trying to meet broadcast expectations can kill an imaginative non-mainstream project.   For example, I think Alcatraz suffered greatly by trying to be a myth/arc heavy show without doing arc heavy episodes.  The episodes tried really hard to be cop-show procedural with a couple of hints.

  30. That's true...
The original plan for Season 4 of VM was for her to be out of college and in the FBI academy or as a new agent, so that could still work I guess.

Would it be the same with just Veronica and maybe a few friends making guest appearances? I'm not sure.

  31. this would make me so happy!

    ReplyDelete
  32. And would an audience running on the fond memories of her as a high school student accept the necessary changes?    In a couple of cases (popping into my fuzzy memory) they have not.

  33. It would love/hate it..the strike killed it,but the first season was great!
