What kind of reaction have you seen today about the finale, and is it what you were expecting?
I haven't really seen anything. I knew that I had really strong feelings about the finale, and I knew people would too. I decided I was just going to be off of Twitter. I know that there was a large reaction. The one thing that I wanted to know is if everybody got the point of the episode. Everyone is still so immersed in ‘Who died?' and no one is talking about the thing that I actually think is important and was the point of the episode.
Which is?
Which is they are still out there. They're still out there in the forest, and we don't know if they are going to be OK. We left it open for a reason because…I hate to say this, but just because you saw people alive at the end of the finale doesn't mean they're going to be alive when the season starts up. We are completely jumping off into the unknown next season.

Okay, I love Mark, but please kill him so he can be with Lexie.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm excited for next season, tbh. Now that we're down two cast members, I'm hoping my favorite character, Alex, will finally get a storyline.
I agree, I definitely want Mark to be with Lex, even if it is in the afterlife. Please bring back the elevator to heaven!!
ReplyDeleteI knew it,i said it that this might happen....I need a break from this for now...
ReplyDeleteI actually think fewer cast members will actually help the series. It may allow for a deeper analysis of a person's storyline and not be superficial.
ReplyDeleteI agree, they really had too many, but you know Shonda will just add new characters,to keep the storyline fresh..
ReplyDeleteI love Mark too but I agree with you. Honestly I was kinda expecting him to die at very the end anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree about Alex too! =]
I agree. Just kill off Mark. Let him reunite with Lexie. It works, storyline-wise imo. His injuries seemed to be the worst of the bunch. Mark already said, "Lexie's waiting for me". So, I'm just waiting for the happy afterlife reunion. 'Ghost-town Seattle Grace afterlife-hallway' awaits, guys. Plus, Lexie's death alone wouldn't impact EVERYBODY. I mean, Callie isn't really in that story 'sphere'. If Mark died too, then yes, their combined deaths would impact way more people.
ReplyDeletePeople have already been speculating Arizona could still die.
ReplyDeleteBut Mark's grief will impact Callie as he's Callie's best friend.
ReplyDeleteI'm not wild about them killing off Mark because he is a father.
True. The only part of the theory I hate is that Derek would be devastated and Sofia wouldn't have a father. (But she would have two moms, at least.)
ReplyDeletePeople aren't missing the point of it. They don't care about the point of it. They're all completely fucked and that's nothing new. It's been done every two years,
ReplyDeleteFrom the reactions I'm seeing people aren't obsessing about who died. They're upset over HOW said character died and WHY? And not why Lexie... just why a death in the first place? Frankly it was a crappy send off. This was a popular character and these were her final moments?
I think this is intended to be the final straw for the characters but this is will probably be the final straw for a lot of people. It's another far fetched crisis. One that somehow, if weren't a death, managed to be really really dull. Which right now I'm thinking is the only reason why a character death was proposed in the first place and another one is being threatened to stop people from tuning out.
Everything about this backfired. Move over Musical episode. This is the new failure of the series.
ok people please tell me that i did not misunderstud this interview...
ReplyDeleteLexie died, because Chyler leigh wanted to leave the show for some reason right?
but that's a reason Shonda won't / can't talk about ... so Lexie died because her portrayer was leaving, not because shonda is a heartless woman who was desperate to increase the audience..right?
AND ANOTHER ONE IS DYING?? pleaseeee lexie may have cost you MILLIONS of fans! if you are killing anyone else , please let it be mark so they can be together in heaven...
Courtney , I see what you're saying there. And yes, Callie would be impacted by Mark's grief. Plus, as klutzy_girl stated, Derek & Sofia would be hugely impacted by Mark's death too. However, as Ms. Rhimes stated in her interview, Mark & Lexie were "meant to be". Ms. Rhimes could go either way since it's already a tragedy with Lexie's death. But if we're going to get cosmic, Mark & Lexie reunited in the afterlife would validate the "meant to be" line. And then there's that line from Mark about "Lexie waiting" for him. And Mark's injuries...I don't know. It just seems a bit foreshadowing to me. Guess we'll see when the show premieres this Fall.
ReplyDeleteI don't think people are too off-base on their speculations. The Grey's writers purposefully put hints here & there for us to speculate from. If Mark's not dying, I'm thinking Arizona will imo. Shonda Rhimes quoted Callie's line about life changing in an instant. Callie being finally so happy (you know TV writers don't like writing for happy couples). Arizona & Callie & the whole "don't ever leave me" thing from the episode before. Could be a red herring, but could also be foreshadowing. I'm actually interested in seeing how this plane-crash story unfolds. Then, I'll make the decision on whether to see the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteThat was my thought too.
ReplyDeleteSince Shonda cannot tell us why,i'm assuming Chyler wanted to leave.Shonda even said she had plans for them to be together,so i'm taking it that way,Chyler wanted to leave..
ReplyDeleteDid you really think it would just be Lexie? I'm still thinking it could be Arizona, but i'm not getting into that debate until promos start coming out,we could all use a break from this for a little while.
It wasn't even the "don't ever leave me thing". In an interview in EW a while back the question to Shonda was "What about Arizona and Callie", shonda's answer was-we would see them working together in a way that is lovely, but she couldn't talk about what would happen. With every other question concerning all the others she answered except for Lexie.I should have picked up on it but didn't. I'm also looking forward to next season and seeing how this plays out...
ReplyDeleteIf Mark does die at least Callie will have Arizona. And really it will always be someones mother, farther, sister,or brother that dies...
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah? I don't think I read that interview. Hmmm. I don't know if her definition of "lovely" is the same as mine. ;)
ReplyDeleteThose are her words not mine.I posted it twice for people who didn't read it.Of course when Thursday rolled around i didn't think i would be needing it and threw it out.But i believe i saw it here today, let me go and look for it,be back in a few.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but every time the last season finale came to my mind I remember Lexie singing Breath (2AM) in the musical episode! :/ SAD
ReplyDeletemaybe we'll get a statement from Chyler saying why she's leaving, i'll miss her :) but i kinda understand why killing her was probably the best idea... take for example Izzie stevens, she's alive, she's out there and we don't have any idea if she's even working as a doctor , and alex never really got closure. And i would not want to Mark go through that, at least he knows lexie's with her mother now :)
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that Chyler Leigh was heading to Broadway and spend more time with her family.
ReplyDeleteLexie is going to be missed. I've watched the episode 3 times now and I cringe when Derek yells trying to free himself, I closed my eyes when Arizona tightened the belt around her thigh.
Did anyone else notice the similarity from our crash victims to the victims at the hospital.
Will Cristina miss becoming a Cardio Fellow and become the new Head of Cardio at Seattle Grace Mercy West (death) Hospital, now that Teddy is leaving.
Hope Derek can still operate after the kind of injury he sustained. And Arizona can walk after her leg was broken.
Looking forward to the Premiere, hopefully it's a two hours long.
Found the interview,go to Entertainment Weekly on their home page in News & Blogs it says "Grey's Boss tweets about 2 cast exitsGrey's Anatomy season finale boss explains.go down to the bottom of that page in the lower left hand you will see a blue rectangle that says back to ew home.right above that it says "related" there you will see
ReplyDelete"Grey's Anatomy boss on finale: I did what was necessary." Click on that sentence and it will take you to the whole interview where she talks about everyone...I believe it is on the second page where she is asked about Callie & Arizona, and Lexie, and Mark, even her remark about those two are weird..
I'm sure we will all find out eventually, she might not be able to talk about it yet because of the cliffhanger and all. Maybe she wanted to get away while she could so she wouldn't be bombarded by crazy fans,lol.....
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was thinking!!!! I want that too.
ReplyDeleteI don't give a crap about Izzie. I was glad when she left. No offense she could have written Lexie and Mark off together. Lexie could have finished her residency somewhere else with Mark following her or Mark could have gotten a job offer and Lexie followed him. I think Shonda enjoys killing characters off. I hate that the only way I will accept this death is if Mark dies and can be with Lexie in heaven. Regardless of whether or not Chyler wanted to leave there were better ways to do it instead of what feels like a slap in the face to all those who loved Lexie and loved Slexie together!
ReplyDeleteThree things:
ReplyDelete- do not kill Arizona
- pick up the new season right where this one ended
- put Lexie on the elevator, you know what I mean... =P
Shonda os freaking clever, she knows this way when the new season starts we're all gonna be in front of the TV to see what happens.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I love and hate cliffhangers...
cristina's technically not qualified to be the head of cardio yet. she's only just finished her residency.
ReplyDeletei was genuinely expecting mark to die at the end of the finale. so they could have a scene where he's "reunited" with lexie. like at the end of season 5 when izzie was in the prom dress and george was all hot army dude. only this time it would have had mark and lexie go to each other and yeah. if they end up killing mark and not having one last scene with chyler, i'll be pissed. a seriously missed opportunity there.
ReplyDeletesorry but for the hint they gave is Arizona the one leaving .. she is spitting blood .. most of all the patients crossing Seattle Grace that do that is a point of not return, and she is hidding it from the rest so her case is making it worse by the minute and in the real life they talk already about THE ORIGInal AST to be sign in for 2 more years so Arizona came like in season 7? there u go !
ReplyDeleteShe had better not kill Arizona after making me so happy she lived!
ReplyDeleteBut what if Eric Dane did not want to leave? You can't just axe one actor because his partner on the show is leaving. They are individuals and not a couple in real life. He has a family and needs to provide for them.
ReplyDeletePlease remember that Eric Dane may not want to leave the show. Just because Chyler left does not mean that he wants to leave. They are not a couple in real life. Shonda writes out people when they want to leave.
ReplyDeleteCristina cannot become Head of Cardio because as a Fellow, she is still in training for another two years. Then she has to become board certified in cardiothoracic surgery. Right now, the residents who passed the recent boards are now only board certified in general surgery.
ReplyDeleteNo one else can die, it would be way too sad!!
ReplyDeleteI really think this is a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm not one of those people who will jump ship, but seriously, if you kill a character in the finale which is unpopular to the fans, and then those who come back have to deal with another death, viewers will go down.
Also, getting rid of more than two characters seems like a waste to me, Mark and Arizona are definitely core characters to the show, more so than either Teddy or Lexie, it makes no sense to kill either of them off.
And yeah, if Shonda is planning a cull of characters to bring in some from Private Practice (I can see Amelia and Addison jumping over), that would be annoying as well.
I don't know, usually I think Shonda is Jesus and knows what she's doing, but this is interesting?
Also, you can't kill of characters with such a large impact off screen.
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing Shonda could do would be the have these characters just die in between seasons.
Oh, I know that. But he may possibly want to also.
ReplyDeleteDamn. Becoming a doctor sounds extremely complicated.
ReplyDeleteIts really not that complicated, after general surgery whatever field you want to specialize takes another 4 years, then you take the boards to be Board certified in that specialty.
ReplyDeletei dont want mark to died even do he almost did anyway i love mark and i cant let him died i have to wait for season 9 to found out
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine Shonda killing off characters on Grey's just to bring over characters from PP. Can you imagine the kind of rep. she would get for that.I mean it could happen if more people are actually leaving greys because they want to but i just can't see Shonda doing it intentionally.
ReplyDeleteLet me ask where did you hear that Shonda plans on bringing over PP people?
And you think of Shonda as Jesus....really?
Okay, maybe not Jesus, but pretty high up there aha
ReplyDeleteAnd I didn't read it, I just think it could happen, Shonda always said how much she loved Kate Walsh, so I don't know, I don't see her letting Walsh go.
And I hope that's not the reason she's killing them off, but I just think she may be.
if you look at it from a medical perspective they could all die (marks heart is failing, mer, der and cristina look like they're alright for now, but they spent more than 5 hours in the woods with bleeding wounds. cristina looks like she only has some abrasions after a plane crash??!! i think she has internal bleeding )
ReplyDeletebut my point is: arizona looks the worst. she was spitting blood AND has an open bone fracture..after 5 hours sitting in dirt she would AT LEAST lose her leg due to the germs that can get into her wound..just sayin'..doesn't look good for arizona
Okay, i thought i missed reading the interview... I don't see Kate fitting in anywhere now,and of course i could be wrong but making a whole new storyline just for her...i don't know?
ReplyDeleteI doubt they will all die,but you overlooked Meridith, she has a lot of blood on the back of her head, she certainty has a concussion, but she could also have bleeding in the brain, which left w/o medical intervention could lead to death.. and i could hazard a guess but i believe it will be more than 5 hrs that pass when next season starts......I would say they all look pretty bad,and until
ReplyDeletethey either die,or get rescued and get medical attention we don't know just how injured they are.
i didn't mean that they would all die. just that they all have injuries that could lead to death. we only know they've been there for more than 4 hours..if shonda rhimes wants to get rid of another character there's a possiblity that anyone coulds die due to there injuries + the time they are waiting to get found
ReplyDeleteWhats the point to the original cast renew the contract if Shonda kill some of them? I srsly doubt about that shadow that her put on the interview.
ReplyDeletewhy??
ReplyDeleteYep,sorry i misunderstood. But your right,they all could. :)
ReplyDeleteI forgot she sang that.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I loved the shoe bit. One thing that Shonda does add is some humour to a very dark and sad storyline. Plus, shock makes people think and act strangely and Christina wondering where her shoe was just showed that - similar to Arizona laughing hysterically and also the way that April acted during the shooting at the hospital. I also loved Christina's line about having PTSD so not being reliable.
That is a very good point. I doubt Christina, Meredith or Derek will die considering they have signed on for another two years but there is the option of Arizona or Mark - they would all need treating for hypothermia and shock when they are found. I want to know whether Derek's hand will actually heal so that he can continue to be a surgeon and whether Arizona will lose her leg. At least we saw Meredith trying to treat Derek's wound, we never saw anyone try to help Arizona - all she did was put the belt around her leg and if that is left on for too long, she would lose her leg because of the toxins that build up - there is a reason why tourniquets are no longer recommended and even the military only use them in severe cases.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't see it that way. I thought Lexie's death was perfect for her and Mark. She heard Mark say he loved her and someone was with her when she died. It could have been worse and she could have been dead by the time someone found her. The only thing that I think Shonda messed up on was saying that "one would die". Once Lexie died in the first 20 minutes, it was a tell-tale sign that none would die during the rest of the episode (of course, that doesn't mean none will die in the season premiere).
ReplyDeleteIt's TV, so it's going to be far-fetched. Greys has had far-fetched storylines from the beginning, so there's no surprise there. It's the drama that keeps people watching. The fact that they didn't fill Lexie's death with drama seems to be the main issue - there have been a few that I've read say that it was boring.
I didn't see Hunt not finding out that there was a problem until right at the end and he doesn't even know what has happened. That's the drama. The team are out there, in the middle of nowhere, with very little water and no food and no-one knows that the plane crashed or where they are. I was waiting for the whole episode for them to find out and go into crisis mode but it didn't happen and it actually felt a little more real than many of the other far-fetched storylines that have happened in the past.
Seriously though, a plane crash with no death? That would have been completely out there - even Lost didn't do that!
I don't care about anything but Jackson and April anymore. They killed my Little Grey ;(
ReplyDeleteYeah....I also liked the PTSD line too!! I didn't like the episode because of the open finale, but I have to say that I apreciated very much the acting job that Jessica, Sandra, Ellen, Chyler, Patrick and even Eric did!!
ReplyDeleteI know it sounds bad, but I'd kinda like it if both Mark AND Arizona died. It would create so many more story possibilities if that happened. Then maybe Callie could leave mid-season, her grief too much for her to stay on. Also, send Jackson off to Tulane, bring in a new plastic surgeon and bump Alex up to Peds. Maybe have Meredith decide to become an Ortho surgeon, she decided she liked it after spending time around Callie (plus, with Webber and Bailey both being General surgeons, it would be a bit of an overload) which makes the cast: Meredith, Cristina, Alex, Bailey, Webber, Owen, Kepner, Derek, New Plastics attending and then 1 or 2 other characters. Then we'd have 3 new characters, a relatively small cast with 11 people so there's still opportunities for more in-depth stories while also bringing in some fresh faces. Maybe even keep Jackson around as another Plastics attending or something, keeping the cast an even 12 (still with 3 new people) and he can have his story with Kepner play out. But I'd prefer Jackson to leave and see April struggle with things on her own, it would actually give her a story for once.
ReplyDeleteOkay I gotta point out two things:
ReplyDelete1) Even Shonda doesn't know if somebody else dies and who this one is going to be! She has to wait for the contract negotiations to finish until she knows who is going to stay and who she has to get rid of. That's business... So she left injuries to most of the doctors so that killing them of in the season premiere is still possible! Speculating who she is going to kill on the basis that they have suffered severe injuries doesn't have any sense right now, I think!
2) If Chyler wanted to leave, there was no other way to get her out! Let's look at the options:
a) Make her leave for another job offer. Seriously? She loved Mark, she wouldn't have left. She wouldn't even have suggested moving somewhere else! That would have been nonsense!
b) Get her together with Mark and let them both leave Seattle. Not possible, Mark has a child and he wouldn't have left Sophia behind! And neither could Shonda let Arizona, Callie, Mark and Lexie move somewhere else!
c) Get her together with Mark halfseason and then kill her off. I liked the idea first. Give Lexie some month of happiness she deserved. But I think Shonda didn't know half season that Chyler will leave + Lexie was not ready for Mark yet. It would have been rushed! We had to see her feeling terrible to make her get over the differences she and Mark had. Too bad Chyler left the cast, so there was no option to let things roll for good!
I hate the fact Lexie is dead! She was one of my favorites and I really felt for her. But I get that there was no other option. And, in case Mark survives, I hope Shonda focuses on him and gives him a storyline this outcome deserves (as she didn't with Teddy and Henry, I think).
His contract cycle is different from that of the originals. He was only made a regular in Season 3, so his contract may not have even expired this year, so there was no need for him to sign a new contract.
ReplyDeleteI think that's a great way of looking at it although I think it would be too obvious if both Mark and Arizona died. One of them, yes, but both is just a little too much (not to handle, just from a writing point of view, it's too obvious). I'm not overkeen on April but some of that may be because she's never really had much of a storyline. To be honest, I didn't like any of the doctors who came from Mercy West at first and Jackson was the only one who grew on me. April started to get there but I think it was her lack of storylines that made her boring and just too whiny for my tastes.
ReplyDeleteA smaller cast would be better. It's hard to keep track of everyone's storylines at times with there being so many at the moment. There are times when I've watched an episode and thought "oh, I forgot about that" or "I thought this happened to him/her".
Thanks for a refreshing comment on this board instead of reading more and more about "why Lexie?" and "the finale was rubbish because Lexie died" or "because Lexie didn't get enough lines" or "because there wasn't as much emphasis on her death".
You are so right about Shonda's options and killing Lexie off was the ONLY real option that she had. Personally, I liked the bittersweet ending that Lexie and Mark got (maybe I'm just mean) but it was refreshing considering it had never been done before. Teddy and Henry got some time together as a couple before he was killed off and the others have always beaten the odds. George was killed off suddenly and without much warning but he was meant to be leaving to join the Army anyway so there were no loose ends, a little like there is with Lexie.
ReplyDeleteSomething that you did miss is whether the other actors want to leave the show. Contract negotiations are still going on from what I understand and the others may not want to leave - you can't just take all out because one of them wants to go. I don't even know if all of them had renewals coming up - from what I remember reading a while ago is that some of them were still locked into contracts but that was a while ago and I may have misread something.
Teddy dealing with Henry I will disagree with. I think she dealt with Henry how a lot of military officers would. She was in denial for a while, constantly getting Christina to go over what happened and then she finally broken down about it. She was angry about it for a long time, directing that blame at Hunt since he was chief and then I think she pretend to accept it. It wasn't until Bailey said something to her about Hunt not being at fault that she really accepted his death; I think that was the turning point for her. SOmething that I have liked about Shonda is how she understands everyone deals with death and situations differently and I can't wait to see how everyone will deal with Lexie's death at the start of the next season - especially Mark, Meredith and Derek since I don't think they've been able to deal with it properly while being stuck in the wilderness.
Wow laura! That is too much work on your part! But thank you. I did read the last bits of that interview just now. And yes, it really does seem like, in hindsight, that Shonda hinted at Mark & Lexie's fate (ie, "dark stuff"). Since Shonda didn't go into detail, I believe it's still up for speculation if Mark or Arizona survives this plane crash. We'll have to see come this Fall, I guess.
ReplyDeleteHa! I had copied the post when it came out so it really wasn't that involved,i didn't mind really it gave me something to do ( like i don't have cleaning, and what not) But right,as soon as i saw Lexie under the plane that interview went off in my head...Maybe once promos start and news start leaking out,we'll find out?
ReplyDeletethank you BOTH! it is so nice to read other comments than people whining about Lexie's death, and how Shonda just killed the show, etc etc...
ReplyDeletei agree with you, killing lexie was the best way an i'm glad they did that way instead of having her leaving the hospital for some stupid reason that would basically pissed the fans off....
i'm also looking forward to see how everyone grieves lexie's death , this will unfold a lot of storylines that i'm so excited to see!
Yeah, I see where you're coming from about it being too much. I think if they went in the general direction I suggested with some modifications, it could be really good and allow things to develop much more for some characters (like April, for instance) I'd like to see something new for Alex aside from random female interests, too.
ReplyDeleteIf someone else has to go, I think I'd like it to be Mark. I absolutely love him, but for those moments I thought he'd died, too? I was oddly okay with it. He was off to live his perfect life with Lexie on the other side where she was waiting for him. I also wouldn't really miss Arizona, to be honest. I never got too crazy about her, though I love the relationship she has with Alex.
ReplyDeleteI think Owen will die. Teddy said she had never seen him so down. He fires his best friend and says his final goodbyes and tells her to do great things. His marriage fell apart and his wife is leaving for a job across the country. He will find out the plane crashed (honestly, the chances of surviving a plane crash?!?) an will commit suicide. He is still suffering from PTSD also. It totally makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI was pretty content with the episode, I didn't really enjoy the ending though. But Lexie dying did make me tear up ... and I haven't cried in an episode of Grey's in a while.
ReplyDeleteSo he can be with her...where? Six feet under? I heard it's dark and uneventful...She'll get bored quickly and go for the first worm she sees
ReplyDeleteWhat we have to remember and Shonda is completely right .Anything can happen.
ReplyDeleteIts a shame lexie died as she was such an interesting character and has had some awesome story lines.
For the person who mentioned Alex not having much of a story line. I partly agree . He has had some mini ones. I.e ava and the phantom pregnancy, izzy and the cancer you really saw a different person there, him realising he was suited to peads and the insane small baby he held topless just to help its breathing also him and mer getting stranded roadside with the baby. Not to forget the whole fiasco with Morgan getting attached. Yes they wern't huge ground braking storyline but he's had some interesting background ones.
I liked the point about Arizona . No one helped her. And she is keeping quiet about how bad she is.
Owen i don't think will die as Shonda said in an interview that him ,weber and calie are the only ones who are not dead and will be working in seatle grace. That still means Christina can still move. I highly doubt as well Dereks hand will be able to perform as well as it did because of him freeing himself from the wreck remember burke getting shot??
We certainly have had some interesting twists. The two most gut renching for me was when we realised it was George who was John doe and praying that there wasn't the birth mark. Derek getting shot bring the shootings. We all knew me wasn't going to die when she practically drowned.
I'll be gutted if yang goes. Her dark humour is one of the few things that watch this show for. She has had me in stitches over the years.
ReplyDeleteI know it sounds bad but I wish April got killed off years ago. Its a shame Nosedive/Charlie died in the shootings . Im glad that Avery stayed. Was nice to see him with Lexie. Avery was the only one from the merger I really liked.
Arizona came in season 5
ReplyDeleteWhack about 7-8 more of them and tie it in to the premiere of a new show about a funeral home.
ReplyDeleteLOL you are too funny!
ReplyDeletePlease save Merr and Derek they really need to be around for Zola! And
ReplyDeleteChristina should go back to owwen realising that there is mroe to life
than just building up her career!!! Arizona is doing good. I hope she
survives too. Last of all Mark and Lexi... They should like meet up in
heaven or something :P Kiddish. But its like people will finally see
that they have met forever...
Doesn't anyone want izzie to come back?
ReplyDeleteI really hope Arizona doesn't die because I love her and Callie and they are married with a baby. I don't want any of them to die really, but if its needed it should be Mark so he can be with Lexie.
ReplyDeleteWhen does it start Uk again?
ReplyDelete
