With Season 3 casting underway I thought I would create a Season 3 casting speculation and rumor thread. We have a list of verified roles being cast, a number of roles rumored to be cast, and a few assumed to be cast despite not being mentioned yet. I will update this as rumors or verifications come in.
I've included the Amok's ASOIAF portrait cards (where available)as a reference for those not familiar with the books, although they are not canon. They have been somewhat accurate so far, but they are one artist's interpretation based on the books. I also have included actor's photos and links for the fan suggested choices as well as some of my own choices.
Who do you want in your favorite upcoming role?
Special Note 1:
I have removed early fan suggestions like Ciaran Hinds, James Purefoy, Mads Mikkelsen, Ray Stevenson and Tony Curran since each has projects filming during the Thrones filming period and will be unavailable in all likelihood.
Special Note 2:
I tried to ignore "above the title" actors like Liam Neeson and Gary Oldman and their ilk since I'm not sure Thrones will be able to cast any of the big Hollywood hitters in roles that just don't get the facetime those actors usually want. Also for budgetary reasons.
**UPDATE** #1 (06/01): I added Sireen Baratheon will be played by Kerry Ingram.
**UPDATE** #2 (06/04): I removed the likely unavailable actors from the favorites list and listed them separately, and added more actors to the suggestion lists.
**UPDATE** #3 (06/06): I added Mero "The Titan's Bastard" since the role has been in some of the Daario casting auditions.
** UPDATE** #4 (06/09): Moved Henry Ian Cusick from Unavailable list to suggestion list since he will not be returning to Scandal for Season 2 according to The Hollywood Reproter.
**UPDATE** # 5 (06/26): I added a handful more names for suggestions and split the Val and Dalla suggestions.
Special Note 3: Season 3 filming will begin in Ireland July 09! Get ready for some real casting and filming news!!
**UPDATE** #6 (06/27): Rufus Sewell has been cast in a 2-part BBC mini-series to air at the end of 2012. So it looks like he may well be out of the running for Thrones now....
**UPDATE** #7 (06/28) Actually casting news today stemming from this London Evening Standard article is suggesting that Tara Fitzgerald is joining Game of Thrones for Season 3!
No comment on who she will be playing, but according to the article she will be filming in Northern Ireland next week. Many have suggested it is a Dragonstone shoot and she may be playing Selyse Florent. Personally I find her too pretty for Sylese, but she is a very strong actress and I welcome her in any role!
Rumor #2:
Also of note... Tweets and an Instragram photo seem to point to Nathalie Emmanuel being cast in Game of Thrones. Perhaps Missandei aged up or a new handmaiden for Daenerys?? Maybe she is replacing the original actress that played Jhiqui?
My Take: She is in the cast. First Take = Missandei aged up. Take two = Arianne Martell or Taena of Myr.
Rumor #3:
Another Twitter rumor is saying that Charlotte Hope has been cast as Myranda. There is a small role of Myranda Royce near the Eyrie... or could she be a different character created by D&D or familiar role with a name change? Could the name be a red herring to keep people off the track of our new Meera?
My Take: First take = Meera. Take two = Roslin Frey, or a cousin for Margery Tyrell.
Rumor#4:
Last note....
There have also been rumored Tweets of Sarah Bolger in Belfast (I've not seen them) so perhaps she is our frog girl? Hmmm....
My Take: This rumor does not sound as substantial to me and I am not counting her as part of the cast just yet....
**UPDATE** #8 (6/30)
Clive Russel has been cast as Brynden "Blackfish" Tully.
Here's to the first major casting of Season 3!
Rumor#1:
According to various tweets, Mackenzie Crook has been seen hanging outwith Thrones cast members in Belfast. This is the time most of the cast has gone to Belfast to pickup scripts and do some pre-production work... so it could mean something...
My Take: Vargo, Beric?
Rumor#2:
Philip McGinley has been tweeting about hanging out with Gwendoline Christie (Brienne), John Bradley (Sam),Finn Jones (Loras), and Joe Dempsey (Gendry) the lst couple days. All of those actors have been in Belfast for fittings and to get scripts etc as they prepare for the filming to begin July 9.
My Take: No role jumps to my mind when I see McGinley, but some have suspected Edmure or Beric perhaps.
Rumor #3:
Frankie McGinty tweeted a day ago that he had just got back from a fitting in London and he was apparently "fatter than MacKenzie Crook." Some think with his striking blue eyes he could be the Bastard of Bolton.....
My Take: This one does not feel too secure to me. The fitting was in London and not Belfast and EVERYONE is fatter than Mackenzie Crook! XD
**UPDATE** #9 (07/01):
Rumor #1:
Frankie McGinty tweeted denying he has not been cast. Although of course it could be subterfuge.....
Rumor #2:
Westeros.com says they can confirm that Crook is NOT cast as Vargo Hoat. Does this mean they know who Crook will be playing or do they know who will be playing Vargo Hoat? XD
My Take: Crook not being Hoat makes many think he is Mance Rayder despite not fitting the description exactly.... I do see him as a wildling ,but not Mance. Maybe Orell?
Rumor #3:
Sophie Turner is now following Paul McGinley on Twitter. Coincidence?
My Take: I think McGinley is part of the cast for sure now, but who?
**UPDATE** #10 (07/03):
Rumor #1:
Asim Ahmad has been cast as Thoros of Myr. The rumor starts on Tumblr where a user commented about her firend's boyfriend and vague tweet from Ahmad himself. I'm not sure right now. I mean the rumor origin said he will be 13 episodes not 10. However, He lived in England for about half of his life, and has stunt work and sword work experience..... He tweets that he met Emilia... So Maybe he is in?
His CastingNow profile fills in some details and makes him fairly believable in the role without confirming it....
I'm beginning to think it is legit, but will wait until there is a little more evidence than a red tie that he is our Red Priest....
**UPDATE** #11 (07/04):
Flickr photo confirmation (1 , 2) of Mackenzie Crook with Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark, Finn Jones (Loras Tyrell),Rose Leslie (Ygritte) and Gwendoline Christie (Brienne) in Belfast together along with what could be Philip McGinley and Joe Dempsie (Gendry).
**UPDATE** #12 (07/05):
Sarah Bolger cast in Once Upon a Time as Princess Aurora.
This likely means an end to Bolger in Thrones, but not necessarily.....
**UPDATE** #13 (07/07):
Carne, a user at Winter-is-Coming had contact from Ian McElhinney's agent saying that McElhinney will be back in Season 3 of Game of Thrones. So it looks like we may be getting Arstan Whitebeard afterall! If not at least Barristan the Bold will be back!
**UPDATE** #14 (07/09):
Rumor #1:
Asim Ahmad seems to have confirmed being cast in Game of Thrones when he tweeted TheRock joking about being unable to be in Fast 6. This tweet still leaves room to debate, for me at least.
Rumor #2:
This one is more wishful thinking on this fan's part than a rumor as such...
Conan Stevens, who played Gregor 'The Mountain the Rides' Clegane in Season 1, tweeted about 91 hours in flights the last 3 weeks. Conan lives in Australia I believe, so a few long flights to Belfast could figure into his 91 hours in the air. The time frame fits for the pre-film session if he went to get his scripts, but it is pure speculation of course!
I liked aspects of Ian Whyte as Gregor in Season 2, but to have Stevens as Gregor back for a certain upcoming combat scene would be brilliant! Here's hoping! XD
Rumor #3:
This is more un-casting news... and a bit sad. It appears that Clive Mantel who played the bombastic Greatjon Umber in Season 1 (and who many hoped would appear in Season 3 after his absence in Season 2) will not be appearing in Season 3 according to his agent.
"Sadly, when filming series 2 came about, Clive was pre booked to appear in another television series and was not free for the shooting dates for Game of Thrones as the dates clashed.
He has not been asked back for series three sadly."
**UPDATE** #15 (07/10):
Rumor #:
According to a very unusual source for casting, /TV (chan site), Dame Diana Rigg has been cast in Thrones. The source is dubious, but supposedly a friend of a relative of the source works on the Thrones set and said Rigg was cast.
Rumor#2:
This could possibly relate to rumor #1..... An anonymous IMDB (message has since been deleted by IMDB) posted that their friend (an actor on Thrones) told them a a "big name" was cast in Season 3. They described the cast actor as "old school big" and a "bit of a legend". Their friend told the poster that "You could hear a pin drop when [this person] talked," but they would not give a name. Dianna Rigg certainly could fit this rumor as well.
The assumption is Rigg would play the Queen of Thorns. Here is a recent photo of Rigg and a side-by-side of Rigg with her would-be granddaughter Nathalie Dormer. They certainly look like they could be related!
**UPDATE** #16 (07/11)
Rumor #1:
According to her management site, Nathalie Emmanuel will be a "returning regular" and her film scenes will be in Morocco. This likely rules out Dornish characters and tells us we have either a new Jhiqui or an aged up Missandei. Nothing new, but more infi is always good!
**UPDATE** #17 (07/13)
HBO released a casting announcement today declaring the actors for 14 roles. Many were listed below and I have deleted them leaving only the roles yet to be cast.
To see the full list of the roles announced today visit this post:
Game of Thrones - Comic-Con 2012 - Panel Notes and Massive Casting Announcements
I managed to get one role right from the start Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Jojen Reed and a few regulars suggested Kristofer Hivju as Tormund. Congrats to us! XD
I managed to call Orell after knowing Mackenzie Crook was cast and not as Vargo Hoat, and most regulars were right on their first impressions that Tara Fitzgerald is Selyse, Nathalie Emmanuel is Missandei. I thought McGinley might be Tom O'Sevens if not Edmure, but he turned out to be a different member of the Brother Without Banners, Anguy the archer. I had Tobias Menzies and Kristofer Kivju cast in different roles, but I am excited to see them in the cast!
The rest of the 14 seemed to go unmentioned by all of us, but I'm sure they will be brilliant. In Nina Gold (and D&D) we trust!
**UPDATE** #18 (07/17):
Rumor #1:
Noah Taylor was spotted in Belfast. No connection to the Thrones cast, and he does have a project in Ireland so this may be a complete coincidence. He would make a very fun Vargo Hoat though!
Rumor #2:
GRRM commented to MTV that Mance has not been cast yet so there is time for UK actors to get their audition tapes in still.... and he had "No comment" as to whether or not Strong Belwas will show up in Season 3.
**UPDATE** #19:
A new (rhymes with) leak.... it appears Iwan Rheon has been cast in Game of Thrones and he will be playing "boy" according to his CV. Rheon was also spotted at a pub in Belfast with other cast members so I think this rumor has legs. Since he was many fans' favorite to play Ramsay, my guess is he will be the Bastard of Bolton. We shall see.....
**UPDATE** #20
Rumor #1:
According to someone who witnessed a scene being filmed and posted her comments on Tumblr, Iwan Rheon is in fact Ramsay. The original Tumblr account has been taken down (which actually adds some credence in my mind), but OhNoyTheyDidn't posted the recap of the Tumblr post.
I will not post the contents since it is heavy on spoilers, but you can read it here.
**UPDATE** #21 (07/25)
Rumor #1:
Some young actress with the Twitter account of AmbeeRose seems to have been cast in Game of Thrones.... at least according to her Twitter(1,2).
ETA:
I looked for support to the fact she was in HP movies or PJ2 and I could not find any. She could have had an uncredited role though I guess. This seems to be at best a featured extra and possibly an empty rumor at this point.
ETA:
Now she says she is flying out to Belfast right now and will be an extra. OF course she did not or could not say her exact role.
Update: This looks like a false rumor. She tweeted a stock photo of a view out of a plane. XD
**UPDATE** #21 (08/02)
Rumor#1:
Today we have some "new" old new from a 2 or 3 week old announcement....
According to his management website, Tom Brooke has been cast in Game of Thrones.
No role was mentioned by his management, but he has been known to play comedic roles as well as dark.
Most think he will be either a minor member of the Brotherhood Without Banners (maybe Tom O'Sevens) or a minor member of the Bloody Mummers (Shagwell).... I immediately saw Vargo Hoat when I look at photos online (1,2). He is gaunt and has creepy bulging eyes that can look like a mad goat to me! XD
Now can we hear him say "Kingthlayer" just once to be sure?
**UPDATE** #22 (08/03)
Rumor #1:
Ours is the Fury at W-i-C found another CV this morning. This time the actress is Elisa Lasowski. She is listed as playing "Mirelle" in a Game of Thrones episode directed by Daniel Minahan(one of the first 2 episodes in Season 3). No Mirelle exists in A Song of Ice and Fire so it looks like D&D are either up to their old name change games or she is a completely new role.
She is quite tall at 5'-10" and very beautiful to be sure. I just saw her in Line of Duty where she played a waitress witness. My first thought was Nymeria Sand, but I doubt the Sand Snakes make an appearance until Season 4. Some have suggested a Tyrell cousin or Mya Stone, but I think Taena of Myr would be a nice fit!
Rumor #2:
Dominic West (The Wire, The Hour) turned down a role in Game of Thrones this season. That role sounds a lot like Mance Rayder too. Here is the full article.
Update # 23 (08/08):
Rumor #1:
Winter-is-Coming reports that both Noah Taylor and Burn Gorman have been spotted filming scenes along side other Night's Watch actors like James Cosmo (Mormont), Mark Stanley (Grenn), John Bradley (Samwell), and Ben Compton (Edd).
If they are Night's Watch members they seem to be a bit high-profile to be random crows. They could be filming scenes back at Crastor's Keep as Mormont and the Night's Watch return or as the remaining crows return to Castle Black which would allow Taylor and Gorman to be much larger roles like Cotter Pyke, Bowen Marsh, or even Othell Yarwyck and Donal Noye. IF they are outside of Castle Black the roles would seem to be much smaller....Maybe the conspirators Softfoot and Lark the Sisterman?
If they were not Night's Watch members I would think we had our Vargo Hoat and Shagwell! XD
Very interesting and we definitely need to keep an eye on this rumor!!
**UPDATE** #24 (08/20):
Daario Naharis has been cast in the form of actor, rapper and DJ, Ed Skrein.
I was expected a bit of a unique nose since Daario's was described as hugely hooked, but I think Skrein has the swagger and the eyes for the role.
**UPDATE** #25 (08/30)
Rumor #1:
More casting news sluethed out by Winter-isComing's Ours_is_the_Fury...
According to her agency website, Stephanie Blacker has been cast in Game of Thrones. There is no role mentioned, but she certainly could be playing one of the two sisters north of the Wall, Val or Dalla. My money would be on Val since Dalla has so few scenes that she could be played by an extra.
Rumor #2:
A photo on Facebook has appeared showing the and all of its "beardom". Certainly not he Brotherhood without Beards is it? Here are the extras that make up the Brotherhood without Banners.
Last Note:
This will also be the final update for this casting and speculation thread. The rest of the casting announcements will be posted individuality since this thread has grown and gotten a bit convoluted. Check in for the Season 4 Casting Rumors and Speculation thread in about 9 months from now.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
- Kraznys mo Nakloz and Prendahl na Ghezn have been cast.
- Daario and Grey Worm have been cast.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
**Update**
The former Night's Watch member who became the King Beyond the Wall has been cast, and a most excellent casting choice indeed! CiarĂ¡n Hinds will portray Mance Rayder. Hinds has the charisma and stature to play Mance as I saw him in the books. Definitely not a shrinking violent or small man. I had thought Hinds may not be available for Thrones seeing as his current project Political Animals. Thankfully I was wrong!
____________________________________________________________________________________________
**UPDATE**
Iwan Rheon has been cast as Ramsay Snow.
Full post can be found here.
Ramsay Snow:
Ramsay Bolton is the legitimated bastard son of Lord Roose Bolton. Originally named Ramsay Snow, he was known as the Bastard of Bolton and the Bastard of the Dreadfort. He has a fleshy appearance, with large, wormy lips and long hair.Of particular note are his pale eyes, reminiscent of his father.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
****UPDATE*****
Clive Russell has been cast as Brynden ' Blackfish' Tully!
The full post can be found here.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
****UPDATE*****
Charlotte Hope has been cast as 'Myranda'.
Now we wait to find out who exactly Myranda is! XD
Is she the minor role of Myranda Royce of the books (seemingly unlikely), a conglomeration of characters from the books (possible), a Tyrell cousin for Margery (more likely), or even a code name for Meera to throw off nosy fans! XD
__________________________________________________________________________________________
*****UPDATE*****
Shireen has been cast.
Shireen Florent Baratheon will be played by Kerry Ingram.
Read more about Kerry Ingram in this post.
- Shireen Florent:
Shireen Baratheon is the daughter of Stannis Baratheon and his only child. Shireen is regarded as a sweet child. She is not not very pretty; she has blue eyes but inherited both her father's square, jutting jaw and her mother's large ears. The greyscale caused half of her left cheek and most of her neck to be covered in gray and black dead skin. She is nine years old.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Roles Also Rumored to be Cast:
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Vargo Hoat:
Vargo Hoat is the leader of the Brave Companions, a particularly unsavory sellsword company referred to as the "Bloody Mummers" in the Seven Kingdoms. Vargo is a tall, gaunt man with a long goatee and a necklace of coins from all the places where he has fought.
Fan suggestions: Anatole Taubman, Anthony Flanagan, Guy Henry, Jason Flemyng, Vincent Cassel
My choice: Vargo Hoat is almost a caricature in the books and I'm not sure it will translate to the screen very well, but I think Guy Henry would be great as a slightly more realistic version of the Goat. He also has been in two Nina Gold projects before, John Adams and HBO's Rome.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Roles Not Confirmed or Rumored, but Possible This Season
____________________________________________________________________________________________
- Mace Tyrell:
Lord Mace Tyrell is Lord of Highgarden, Defender of the Marches, High Marshal of the Reach, and Warden of the South. He was once powerful looking, but has become fat. He is still handsome. He has curly brown hair and cuts his beard into a triangular shape that has white spots within it.
Fan Suggestions: Angus Macfadyen, Brendan Gleeson, Ray Stevenson, Ray Winstone, Yorick van Wageningen
My choice: I have pictured Brendan Gleeson as Mace Tyrell since I first read the books and he is my first choice, although I think MacFadyen could be really good as well.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
- Wyman Manderly:
Lord Wyman Manderly of White Harbor is the head of House Manderly. He is so fat he can no longer ride a horse and must be carried in a litter. He is nearly sixty years old. He has a loud, booming laugh. He is mocked by his own people as "Lord Lamprey".
Fan Suggestions: Brendan Gleeson, Ian McNiece, Jim Carter, John Henshaw, Richard Griffiths
My choice: Ian McNiece is the man...derly. Richard Griffiths truly does look the part though!
____________________________________________________________________________________________
- Dalla:
Dalla was the wife of Mance Rayder. She advises Mance and always gives him good counsel.
Fan Suggestions: Diane Kruger,Rosamund Pike, Thekla Reuten
My Choice: I think Diane Kruger or Thekla Reuten would do a great job as Dalla.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
- Val:
Val is a wildling. She is the sister of Dalla, the wife of Mance Rayder. She is a beautiful woman with blonde hair. She has pale grey eyes with high sharp cheekbones. She is slender with a full bosom. Val is resourceful, brave and capable.
Fan suggestions: Imogen Poots, Romola Garai, Sophia Myles,Viva Bianca
MY choice: I would love to Sophia Myles as Val. I do wonder if Romola Garai will be cast in her third project for Nina Gold though....
____________________________________________________________________________________________
- Tom of Sevenstreams:
Also known as Tom O'Sevens or Tom Sevenstrings, is a singer and a musician. He looks around fifty years old, small and has a big mouth, pointy nose and thin brown hair.
Fan Suggestions: Anthony Flanagan, David Murray, Eddie Marsan,Julian Richings
My Choice: Julian Richings would be a lot of fun, but I truly can see Anthony Flanagan as Tom O'Sevens.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
- Lem Lemoncloak:
He has bad teeth, a bushy brown beard and is known for his large, hooded yellow cloak. He has a fierce, soldier look to him.
Fan suggestions: Brian F O'Byrne, Graham McTavish, Lee Nicholas Harris, Peter Stomare, Ritchie Coster
My choice: I would love to see Mr. O'Byrne as Lem.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
- Belwas:
Known as Strong Belwas, is a tanned eunuch colossus His nickname Strong Belwas comes from the arenas of Meereen where he used to fight. He claims he never lost a fight and he allowed all his opponents to cut him once before they died. He is big, with many pallid scars crossing his chest. He is bald and his arms and belly are huge.
Fan Suggestions: Christopher Judge, Sala Baker, Taylor Wlly
My choice: Since I read Taylor Wily as Belwas I am having a hard time thinking of anyone else. I think 2 Hawaiians in the cast may be a stretch and Sala Baker would have the fight experience for some of Belwas's most important scenes.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
- Mero "The Titan's Bastard":
Mero is the commander of the Second Sons, a mercenary sellsword company. He is tall with pale green eyes, a long, bushy red-gold beard. He has an evil reputation.
Fan Suggestions: Julian Seager
____________________________________________________________________________________________

I was having fun/ being obsessed last night and came up with these... I know I forgot some of the other fan suggestions and I will add as responses come in.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I personally looked for was a connection between the actors and Nina Gold (the casting director for Game of Thrones). She frequently casts actors she has worked with before in her future projects.
Damian Lewis or David Wenham for Edmure, while Liam Neeson or Jason Isaacs for Brynden
ReplyDeleteso many people,,,,i think i will need time to run through all these people.I might have one or two off my own...
ReplyDeleteLove all those but Lewis will be filming Homeland and unavailable I think....
ReplyDeleteKristofer Hivju for prez, and Edmure Tully. Give some actors outside of UK the darn role! :D
ReplyDeleteAny idea when After Earth is done filming? I wonder if he will be finished by the time they need him to start on Thrones?
ReplyDeleteViva Bianca as Val, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't Butterfield still in Ender's Game mode?
ReplyDeleteWith the 2nd X-Men coming out next year I can't imagine McAvoy would pursue any roles with Thrones.
But Fionula Flanagan is a FANTASTIC choice for Olenna. I always saw her as small and wisened.
But, above all? My favourite you have up there? Cillian Murphy as Ramsay Snow. Holy crap, that's brilliant.
He is still filming Ender's Game and will not be available in all likelihood.
ReplyDeleteOoooh! I just thought of one for Selyse!
ReplyDeleteWhat about Mrs. Bates? Maria Doyle Kennedy! They already have one queen from The Tudors, why not another?
Yes I agree. Asa is out.
ReplyDeleteThat's brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThe other actress I thought of, but forgot to add is Haydn Gwynne who played Calpurnia on HBO's Rome (a Nina Gold project). http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006522/
I will add both!
He`s finished with that part in april or may. It was only six week from around march. He has no big projects.
ReplyDeleteHis agent is the same woman who recommended Mads Mikkelsen and Jesper Christensen for Casion Royale. She has also ties with Viggo Mortensen (he`s part danish). And she the agent of a actor that was in Into The Wild and the second Da Vinci-code. His agent also got him a auditon for True Blood on HBO.
Ooooooh. Good one!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll add a silly one for the far future: Ron Perlman as Wun Wun! I kid, I kid.
Added her to the post. I had a hard time finding good photos of her clothed- I swear more of her naked than in clothes! XD
ReplyDeleteShe'd fit in on Thrones I guess....
Mance Rayder - Benedict Cumberbatch
ReplyDeleteDaario - Here's a crazy idea, how about Naveen Andrews (Sayid from Lost)?
Qyburn - Malcolm McDowell would be cool.
I thought of Naveen (Oded Fehr too) and forgot to add him... but I really want him as Oberyn Martell next year!
ReplyDeleteMalcolm could be fun as Qyburn!
I would love Donald Sutherland too, I wonder if they'd do the role...
I want to see Titus Welliver somewhere, somehow. Love him!
ReplyDeleteMight make a good Beric.
ReplyDeleteI love him too. I looked at his IMDB and he is filming two projects right now so he might be busy during the Thrones filming period.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.imdb.com/name/nm0920038/
I know I have been SO SO SO far behind on commenting on GOT, but this is great work, Darque!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how close you and fans might be! (:
Some I know will not be in... Too big of a name or busy in other productions, but I think it's fun to guess!
ReplyDeleteWait I thought that Blackfish had already appeared. When Cat was visiting the Eyre at the Bloody Gate. Am I going crazy or something? I could swear.
ReplyDeleteYou are not crazy, but you are wrong. Blame D&D! XD
ReplyDeleteWhen Catelyn's party arrived they were greeted by Ser Vardis Egen instead of the Blackfish like in the books.
I usually suceed in avoiding reading GoT spoilers, since I have only watched a few episodes and stopped. I want to finish the books first, but I'm still reading the first book. It is getting harder and harder to avoid the spoilers, argh. This post is so freaking interesting that it is basically torture.
ReplyDeleteWell I tried not to put anything spoilery in the role descriptions... hope that helped! XD
ReplyDeleteThis is torture even if you have read the books and watched the series honestly. So many actors out there to chose from... Do you consider appearance or personality? Both can be altered easily....
I think the fandom has only been right on a minority of casting choices so far. Dinklage as Tyrion, Bean as Ned Stark and some I'm forgetting. Oh and Gwendoline Christie as Brienne!
Thanks!!!!!! the most important is not that she does nudity,, but that she is, IMHO, a great, great actress.
ReplyDeleteThis is a REALLY awesome post! Thanks for taking the time to compile it all.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteAlthough if I'm completely honest at least 50% of this is me trying to rationalize the comically large amount of time I have spent thinking on the subject- If I'm doing it for a post it is not obsessive. See? XD
Mads Mikkelsen would be so great as Mance but he has just been cast in Thor 2 so I doubt he would be able to do it.
ReplyDeleteNaveen Andrews definitely needs to show up in this series, as Daario I am down with that.
I think we all know Maggie Smith just has to be the Queen of Thorns has to be!
I love the suggestions for Ramsay!.Cillian is creepy enough! No to Eddie Redmaye though I can't stand the guy, watching GOT would be a nightmare ha
Ha, yes I see ;)
ReplyDeleteOh damn!
ReplyDeleteI see he is filming 2 projects and has 2 in pre-production.....and then Thor 2!
He is likely far too busy to have a meaty role like Mance...
Ugh! Waaaaaaaaaaaa...
That's awesome! great work, Darque!
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I would vote for the Lost characters (Naveen Andrews for Daario Naharis and Fionnula Flanagan for Olenna Redwyne) - just because I loved them in Lost (it's a good reason, right?) :)
Eddie Redmayne would be kinda hard to get considering he's busy woth Les Miserables at the moment unless they film next year.Chris Judge! Great as Teal'c and plays the 'Badass' type role really well, plus we've had Jason Moma so I guess one more Stargate alumni couldn't hurt?
ReplyDeleteThe more I see of the LOSTies the better!
ReplyDeleteWell I could do with seeing a little less of some of them...
*Yeah, I'm looking at you Doug Hutchison and new nearly-legal wife Courtney Stodden!*
Wauw, you did a great job posting all of this!! Thanks! It is great to have a full view of who is gonna be cast for the next season.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing Mance on screen. He made a big impression in the books and I hope they cast him well. The people suggested above would all be great. My vote goes to Mads Mikkelsen, but I think it is unlikely.
It will be good to see some Tully´s aswell and the rest of the wildlings.
Yep, good reason. Loved them on Lost too.
ReplyDeleteDonald Sutherland would be awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteTormund - George R. R. Martin :)
ReplyDeleteMace Tyrell - Mace Tyrell? hmm...
Thank you so much for not spoiling anything on the description! Since I am still halfway the first book, I am not really familiar with almost all of these characters.
ReplyDeleteI'm still on the part where Ned get's captured (and his men killed) by the Lannisters for the kidnapping of Tyrion. I pretty much know that Ned is going to die (too virtuous and likeable to survive... the author made sure his death will be felt + the dead giant wolf at the beginning of the book), the Stark family will probably be almost anihilated (the readers really grew to like the family so there will be big emotional impact) and I think Littlefinger is a monstrous mastermind, but these might be completely wrong.
What intrigues me the most (and I don't know if the author clarifies that on the following books) is Jon Snow's paternity/maternity. IMO he sure as hell isn't Ned's child (doesn't fit the character of Ned at all), but Lyanna and Rhaegar's. Taking care of Jon and never revealing that he was the child of the event that led to the war was the promise Ned made to Lyanna IMO. And I think Lyanna wasn't kidnapped and raped by Rhaegar, but rather liked the idea a bit (she was not to keen on marrying Robert and was a free spirit). She probably died in childbirth. What do you think?
LOL!!! totally agree.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very common theory for readers.... I go back and forth, but I think it is more likely than he is Ned and Wylla's!
ReplyDeleteI do feel more strongly about Lyanna and Rhaeger. I doubt it was kidnapping at all too.
Could John Noble fit any of the parts (can´t really see it my self). He is only doing 13 episodes of Fringe and would fit in great with the GoT cast.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on Cillian Murphy as Ramsay and Fionnula Flanagan as Olenna redwyne (would be great to see some of the Lost cast on another favorite show).
"That is a very common theory for readers" I am glad to hear that! I also think that the Wylla version is a red herring.
ReplyDeleteI think I will read all the books first and then watch the series, but it is getting harder and harder to avoid temptation because the show is soooo good.
Well as someone who hasn't read the books, I really enjoyed reading these. But except mance rayder and some family names like tully and frey, I don't think any of them have been mentioned yet!
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought they couldn't possibly cram more characters into this show! xD
By the way, Ramsay Snow, does this mean Jon has a brother? :o
Why did you think of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan? Is that just your guess or is there a rumor of Hrithik Roshan playing that role. I guess, he is busy acting in Bollywood movies. Usually Bollywood stars are not really happy to stop acting in Bollywood movies for an American TV show/Movie.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about more and more characters XD
ReplyDeleteThe "good news" is that with war going on characters can die, and in Game of Thrones, no one is safe!
As for the name Snow....
Nope he is not related to Jon Snow. In Westeros each of the Seven Kingdoms has a last name that all bastard children of their region use. So every bastard in the North will use the lst name of Snow. The Rest lay out like this.
The North = Snow
Westerlands= Hill
The Reach = Flowers
Iron Islands= Pyke
Riverlands = Rivers
Dorne = Sand
The Vale = Stone
Stormlands = Storm
Crowlands = Waters
COMPLETE speculation! XD
ReplyDeleteI was looking for the right look... came across him on some site and thought of it. True enough about Bollywood actors and he is most likely not in next season. He was just an attempt to throw out some "unknown" name since I think the role will go to someone unknown for the most part.....He is a star in his own world though so I was reaching a bit......
Depending on her schedule, I thought of another great person for Queen Selyse: Gillian Anderson.
ReplyDeleteShe has been in 4 Nina Gold projects in the last few years - The Fall, Shadow Dancer, The Crimson Petal and the White, Any Human Heart. Nina Gold likes Gillian in her series evidently.....
ReplyDeleteI was trying to think of a role for her.....but then I saw that she has 3 projects currently filming or in pre-production.
I can definitely see Christopher Judge as Belwas,or an older WWE fighter. I think i better write them down or this could go on forever...not that i mind.
ReplyDeleteHow's DJ Qualls for Tom of Sevenstreams?
ReplyDeleteI think you should add Eileen Atkins as a possible Queen Of Thorns. I think she would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteYep he and Mackenzie crook remind me so much of one another...
ReplyDeleteThe one thing makes me chose Crook over Qualls is that Qualls is American.
Most of the actors on Thrones will be from the European Union (legal and production issues), the majority from the UK. I'm not sure we will see another actor from the US honestly. I think Dinklage was a necessity and Jason Momoa who played Khal Drogo was a pleasant surprise... and a fluke.
I showed Christopher Judge because I simply have NO IDEA who could play Belwas if he even gets cast! XD
I have the perfect visual of Strong Belwas in my mind (much like that photo) but I cannot think of a hugely big and fat actor that could pull off being a bit of a bragging simpleton and yet be a skilled warrior.
She could be great indeed!
ReplyDeleteSo could her old partner Jean Marsh, although March had a stroke a year ago... I'm not sure how up to performing she is just yet since she had such a limited role on Upstairs, Downstairs this season.
The only reason I think I like Flanagan more than most (other than Dame Judi Dench) is that she is only 5-2. Part of the Queen of Thorns persona is her petite size. That could easily be ignored and it's not like they have followed every role's stature for the series before!
I will add her in a bit. :)
A vote for Donald Sutherland
ReplyDeleteJean Marsh would also be great and hope she will return to good health. Upstairs, Downstairs i think was cancelled so she might be free. GOT has so many characters i would imagine the role of Queen Of Thorns would not be overly demanding.
ReplyDeleteI thought Selyse had already been cast? Or are they recasting? She was in a small scene in the burning of the Seven earlier this season.
ReplyDeleteAs for Tony Curran being in any role, I'd say no. He's one of the main characters in the upcoming SyFy series, Defiance.
Selyse was there in the scene as a featured extra.
ReplyDeleteLike Beric Dondarrion was in Season 1 for a scene also. I think they plan to recast both of those roles from what I understand. Maybe the actors will get a chance to win the role permanently? Maybe if they want to recast there is a reason and they don't think the extras could be cast in the role? Dunno.
This is an amazing post, thank you Darque!
ReplyDeleteMurphy would be great for the Bastard, I do really look forward to how on earth they are going to introduce him.
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am wondering what they will do too!
If we meet Bolton's bastard in the finale I assume he will be in full armor and helmeted, but that loses so much of the dramatic effect of the character!
If they push certain events back to the beginning of next season, then we can meet him for the first time and see him in all his twisted glory I hope!
I do wonder how HBO will play out his story arc though....Reading it on the page and watching it on TV are two different things. If they get too much like the book it could almost go the Horror Porn route. Rhymes with EEK!
They need to walk that line between torture to show the character and plot development... and gratuitous violence. And how do you extend that for a season without it being repetitive and retaining the shock value and intensity?
Ramsay´s story is not made for TV. They are gonna have a hard time staying true to the story as we can´t really get the same surprice as in the book. I have already excepted this, so I just look forward to see Ramsay and just how scary they will make him. People hate Joffrey, just imagen how they will fell about Ramsay.
ReplyDeleteCan anybody suggest a good book for me?
ReplyDeleteI love the G. R.R Martins books and desperatly need something good to read, so I thought this might be a good place to ask.
It doesn´t have to be a fantasy book. My favorite part of the books are the well developed characters, who are not just good or bad, but a mixture of both, and the political game they play.
I have been reading mostly Crime novels lately so most are not overly shaded like you want... more black and white good guy chases bad guy. Sometimes it may be a flawed good guy, but rarely well developed! XD
ReplyDeleteI did read a Fantasy novel a few months back called "The Blade Itself" by Joe Aboercrombie. It's a dark more adult Fantasy style not entirely dissimilar from GRRM. Complex characters and politics. There are 2 more books in the series also.
I keep hearing about this book from so many people, but I have yet to read it, "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. I know little about it other than the title and it gets raves from everyone that has read it. Young innkeeper who discovers there is much more to him and the world around him after his parent's are brutally murdered. Arcane secrets, mythical creatures etc... kind of the coming of age for a wizard, but not for teens like Harry Potter. XD
BTW, am from India and a huge fan of some of Hrithik's bollywood movies.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Darque. I think I might give Joe Abercrombie a try, I´ve often heard his name mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI don´t really like crime fiction. At least not the typical "who did it" kind. Stieg Larsson and Lars Kepler are quite good, but I tend to stay away from the genre.
Thanks! :-)
Thought of the PERFECT smaller role (if it is cast) for Kristofer Hivju if he misses out on Edmure or Beric..... Mero "The Titan's Bastard" of the Second sons!
ReplyDeleteDescription... tall with pale green eyes, a long, bushy red-gold beard.
Gee, that doesn't sound exactly how he looks does it? XD
http://www.assignmentx.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/13_KristoferHivju_SS_MG_9514.jpg
Doesn't Tom of Sevenstreams look like Robert Carlyle would be suited for that role? :D
ReplyDeleteThat would be awesome! XD
ReplyDeleteI think Carlyle may be too big a name for a smaller role that is not even guaranteed of being cast though. That does not mean I would not want to see it though!!! XD
And it looks like he has enough to do in Once Upon a Time.
ReplyDeleteFor this small role he would be a bit of a waste, but the drawing reminded me of him.
They already casted Beric Dondarrion, wasn't he in season one?
ReplyDeleteYes, but I think they just had a "place holder" featured extra in the role since they knew they would not need to give the role anymore face time until Season 3.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have read they are recasting the role though....
What about Robert Downey Jr. as Daario Naharis? I know it's hardly possible, but would be awsome.
ReplyDeleteRDJ as Daario, or even maybe Mance or the Blackfish would be fun! XD
ReplyDeleteI think there are a few popular US movie actors that could be in Thrones and be fun. One other actor I have pictured is Hugh Laurie from House as Thoros of Myr. He has the height.. that thin drawn out look of Thoros in the later books and he can do real drama too of course.
A few others have mentioned to me they see Tim Roth of Lie to Me as Mance Rayder. XD
Of course it won't happen, but fun to imagine....
I just heard that Mads Mikkelsen will play Hannibal on the new NBC series. So I guss he is not joining the GoT cast. I would much rather see him on a HBO show. Never submited a scoop here and don´t know if it is new to you all, but it is all over the danish news.
ReplyDeleteI read on another site he got a new series, but did not see which it was.
ReplyDeleteI assumed he was out anyway since he has so much going on right now, but aI guess he had room for a TV series anyway! XD
I was not planning on checking out Hannibal unless they got the casting right.... and they did!!! *gasp*
I may have to check it out now...
Yeah, me too. Now I´ll have to watch. He has been on danish TV shows before and has done a great job.
ReplyDeleteStrong Belwas?...how about if Christopher Judge (Stargate SG-1) put on some of the right pounds?
ReplyDeleteYep he is one of the few actors that popped to mind as Belwas, if like you said he put on some fat!! XD
ReplyDeleteThe only thing is that Game of Thrones is almost exclusively a UK/ European cast (at least non-American) so I'm not sure he has a shot. I'm sure there are some European actors that could fit he description too, but I just don't know their actors as well to locate one.
After seeing Kerry Ingram who is also in Les Mis I would if Redmayne would be available too?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Redmayne's part is much, much larger than Ingram's so he has a much busier filming schedule I'm sure.
I've heard that the Last of the Plantagenets books by Thomas Costain are good fictionalized accounts of the real War of the Roses (between the Lancasters and Yorks) - and I started reading, recently The King Must Die by Mary Renault which is fiction about Theseus but very similar in tone, I'm sure Martin has read it - These are all books my mom had on her shelves when I was a little kid so they've been around for awhile
ReplyDeleteThanks, A.! Never heard of any of them, but I´ll check them out. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhy not Nathan Fillion as Mance Rayder. I'd think he'd be great in that role.
ReplyDeleteWell, now I've found you, so there goes another half-day. And I thought the recaps were a rabbit-hole! ALL of these are simply brilliant, and now I'll spend the interval with all these actors' faces chasing the names of the characters around and around in my head...but I must tell you: the one that sticks the most is definitely Cillian Murphy as Ramsay Snow. Gives me the chills!
ReplyDeleteYep, busy for sure, but I think FIllion is the type to take less money to be on a project he really wants to join.
ReplyDeleteMostly I think he is out because Thrones uses almost exclusively UK and Eurpoean actors.
There are some odd actors union laws in the UK and it's more of a hassle for US actors to get the right permits or verification etc.
Ha!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my world. I have been running names and faces through my mind for a week or so now! XD
And this is all preamble to when they really start announcing bits of information like which roles have been cast, or which roles have been added that were not in the first list. Then add in when GRRM himself starts hinting at who was cast with his Froggy Clues!
It's not as fun as having the show to watch each week, but it is a good deal of fun (and crazy speculation) to try to figure out who will play what role and which scenes from the books will make it in! XD
Well, now I have more and different faces (and many of the same, which is extremely exciting. Totally share your obsession with Naveen Andrews as The Red Viper of Oberyn, but disagree about Daario. Read the first four, loved each uniquely, read the fifth upon publication, and it's been hard to remember all that (to me) ancient history! So I'm re-reading. And watching. :P So of course, I've been seeing
ReplyDelete(loathe DISQUS on iPad) actors I know and love in parts I know are sooooo close...but Daario!
ReplyDeleteDanaerys loves him. And he doesn't betray her. I know the forked beard and blue hair and gold teeth are a bit much, but...she definitely has chemistry with him, so....he should be very, very, very hot. To compensate for the costume/makeup.
But that's so far in the future, it doesn't REALLY bear thinking about. Ramsay is good enough for now. Post updates often, and what is G.R.R.'s Froggy Clues?
On George RR Martin's LiveJournal page he does casting hints. He always changes post icon to match his mood and whenever he does some coded clue for fans it is a little green frog on a bow tie icon and changes his mood to "mischievous". Hence "Froggy Clue".
ReplyDeleteThey usual have 3 to 5 short lines that hint at the role and the actor cast.
Here's an example from last year: http://www.spoilertv.com/2011/09/game-of-thrones-season-2-froggy-casting.html
OH btw.. There is a SpoilerTV app for the iPad. I have not used it since I don't have an iPad, but I've read good things about it! Maybe it will help whatever annoys you about using DISQUS on iPad....
ReplyDeleteYou can cheek it out here:
http://www.spoilertv.com/2011/04/announcing-spoilertv-app-for-android.html
Massive respect to you for guessing correctly! You sure know your relatively obscure character actors, don't you? I mean, I know and love James Purefoy, Ciaran Hinda (Munich!), and basically the entire casts of every series HBO, Showtime, AMC, and most FX have ever run. On, and Starz. So yeah, I know the major names, but I have no idea who that was, so...off to imdb, the app. Wish there were an APP for playing around with sanctioned GoT quirky stuff like this!
ReplyDeleteHey PrincessCritic Can you let me know what the issue is with Disqus on the ipad. We're working with Disqus to improve some issue so any feedback you have will be very helpful.
ReplyDeleteI updated every post with the right info whether someone else found the correct answer or I did). think I got maybe 2 or 3 right last year. and only one was real knowledge! XDThe others were about choosing the right key words in my search and finding the connecting dots. IF you find the right movie or series based on GRRM's clue, then go to IMDB and find the right actor in that series it's easy to compare project titles with the clue.... but it is a lot of luck I won't lie. So more sleuthing abilities than obscure information sponge! XDThis year will be the first year I've done a post like this with choices listed ahead of time. It was a lot harder than I expected too since so many of the fan favorite choices (including my own) are out of the running doing other projects. Some of the suggestions were from other fan sites and some my own, I'd say about 50/50.The worst is the Reeds casting!I just don't watch enough UK or European programming with young actors. Also each of the fan suggestion names are clickable links so you can click on the names to go to IMDB easily! Enjoy your research.
ReplyDeleteHappy to. For me, the biggest and most frustrating problem is the inability to go back and edit your post once you've reached a certain, unqualifiable point...it could be that you've typed too much, or (my theory) that you've hit another key accidentally, thereby making it impossible to go back and tap anywhere---anywhere---in the body of what you've just typed and correct anything. All the iPad does at this point is try to copy/cut, but DISQUS won't allow that by this point. So you have no choice but to LOG OUT, shut it down, and restart. Anything less, and that screwed-up comment will STILL be in the body of your comment, waiting to post on any forum, any day, any time. It's awful. One should ALWAYS have complete editing control over the contents of that box, no matter what. And I think the "Post" bar is just too big. When you're desperately trying to correct the end of what you were typing (and its letting you!), it's the worst to hit that extremely large "Post" bar with an errant finger. Or maybe a failsafe asking if you're really ready to post?
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking!
Got it. Pretty great. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI would like to suggest Claudia Black to play Taena of Myr.
ReplyDeleteDarque you made my Friday morning with your great article and pictures..... Great choices..I am already missing that show......sigh. Does anyone know when George will be finished writing the 6th book?? I am almost done reading the 5th...savoring every page.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy every page and take your time! XD
ReplyDeleteThe next book may be a few years (or more) still....
GRRM wrote the first 3 books with only 2 years between books, but then the fourth book took 5 years and the fifth book took almost 6 years.
Supposedly there was an issue he referred to as the "Meereanese Knot" that caused him trouble in the two middle books. Basically it involved the issue of getting certain characters on their way to or at the city of Meereen. He thinks that now that he has the issue worked out the next books should take less time.
Personally I think there will be 3 more books not two....
That really should be no shock since the sage was originally supposed to be a trilogy. Then it was supposed to be a6-book saga of 2 trilogies.... and then it grew to 7 books. My feeling is he will need one more to get out of the Meerenese Knot and complete the second act and then 2 more books for the final act of the saga.
It would be so cool if the brought in David Wenham for Edmure Tully
ReplyDeleteI know some people had issues with him as Faramir, but I thought he did well with what he was given.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be a lot of new people to be added.
ReplyDeleteThere is about 3 or 4 times that amount introduced in the books, but most are fairly minor (albeit usually quite fun) characters. Because of Dany wandering the desert we will get new people in her arc every year for a while, Jon being behind the wall introduces us to the Wildlings bringing many new faces, and Arya is traveling out of Harrenhal and meets "new" characters.. .and so on.
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones is a story about the kingdoms of Westeros as much as about the specific people we follow closely. The fight for the Iron Throne is only half the story really, although the series has barely touched on the larger more mystical story that goes throughout the series.
The positive side is that in Game of Thrones people die, both small characters and leads, so it does eliminate a few players every year along the way. Of course that can be bad if you happen to like the characters being killed off! XD
Beric Dondarrion has already been seen when he was summoned by Ned Stark acting in the king's stead in episode 6 of season 1 to go to the mountain's keep. I would assume they'd use that actor again unless he's not available. Not sure who he is. IMDB doesn't mention him, but he's right there, in the throne room in episode 6, answering to that name.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand that actor was just an "extra" and not cast in the role. I recall the scene too... He looked the part fairly well to me, but they have stated they are casting the role this filming period... maybe the same actor will get it? Dunno.
ReplyDeleteMuch like the priest of the Drowned God that baptised Theon in Episode 2x03 was not Aeron "Damphair" Greyjoy as such. He was just a featured extra. I think that guy looked PERFECT as the "Damphair" personally, but D&D insisted it was not Aeron Greyjoy....
i've started liking the show too, been catching up on YT..Poor Tyrion I'm hoping against hope Shea doesn't betray him (not spoiling too much i hope either) I like them together and PD has quickly become a fav actor of mine. Next season is gonna be intense Im sure.
ReplyDeleteDalla - Anna Torv
ReplyDeleteI think Linda Hunt might also make a good Queen Of Thorns
ReplyDeleteShe'd work well. Her character in Spartacus was the veiled impetus for a lot of the turning points in the series, especially from the first season. She's got the hidden ulterior motive down cold.
ReplyDeleteI'm not this far in the books yet, so I don't know the character all that well, I'm just affirming that Viva has the acting chops to pull it off.
I'm beginning to hear that GOT will slow down to a snail's pace after the events of A Storm of Swords -- people who have read that far tend to express that they lose interest. I hope this isn't true, but I thought I'd throw it out there to see what others think.
ReplyDeleteIt does change tone after book 3. The first 3 books are very much about the War of the Five Kings and the next 2 are more about how that war affected various kingdoms and people. The war is not exactly over, but it has pretty much settled and there is less fighting for the throne and more kingdom rebuilding. I guess if you compare the saga to a play, the end of Storm of Swords is pretty much the end of Act I of the play.
ReplyDeleteThe other aspect that changes in the books is that A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons both only feature about half of the cast you have gotten to know in the first 3 books. GRRM decided the single book he had written was too big to be one book and he split it into 2 books, each book contains half of the characters.
In Book IV you mostly get Cersei, Jaime, Brienne, Samwell, Sansa and many new characters in the Iron Islands.
In Book V you mostly get Daenerys, Jon, Bran, Tyrion, Davos/ Stannis and some new characters on Essos.
It really changes the feel of the books to be missing half of the cast in each one. Plus I think the tone changes to a large degree and you learn more about the various kingdoms and history of the realms compared to a lot of character plot advancement.
Don't get me wrong, it is not a history lesson or a book on how to run a kingdom exactly. It is more everyone's motivations are changed or confused at this point in the saga. In the first 3 books they were fighting for the Iron Throne in the War of the Five Kings and in the next 2 books they have all come through the battles and are now dealing with the aftermath and the consequences of their choices.
Hope that helps explain it to some degree. I think most people find the first 3 books their favorites and 4 and 5 less so. I personally liked Book V: A Dance with Dragons more than some of the first books. So don;t be too fearful although your tastes will vary! XD
Kevin McKidd has red hair, and the accent needed...Please keep him in mind...Is Anthony Flanagan related to SOA Tommy? I could very well see Tommy in GoT.He already has "the look"..Dayton Callie is from Scotland too, just give him some hair! I'm so happy to see that you are using the talent pool of Scotland and the UK for GoT !!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Tommy Flanagan on Thrones!
ReplyDeleteI think SOA starts filming in the Summer though so I'm not sure he can work it.
As for the relationship between he and Anthony Flanagan... I don't think so, but there certainly are a lot of Flanagan's acting in the UK! XD
Hell I would take Anthony, Tommy and Fionnula on Thrones!! XD
Ya know, I don't think I knew that Dayton Callie was from Scotland! XD
Everything I have seen him in has been a US production where he uses his US accents I guess...
Thanks for the comment about Scottish and UK talent....
It took some work to find some of the actors, but I think the Thrones cast will be a large majority of UK actors with some EU actors mixed in... and very, very few Americans. I would not be surprised if no more American actors are cast.
Tom of Sevenstreams - Robert Carlyle
ReplyDeletehttp://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001015/
The only way Kevin McKidd could do this is if the GOT shooting schedule does not clash with Grey's Anatomy. As it stands, Grey's will start shooting in mid-July and continue until April of next year. Therefore, it seems unlikely.
ReplyDeleteHAHA thanks for your suggestions.. I'm a massive fan of the show!
ReplyDeleteJulian Seager
http://www.castingcallpro.com/uk/view.php?uid=397904
Nice! XD
ReplyDeleteDid you audition for Thrones?
Want to break some news?
Hahaha.
Wouldn't that be fun!
ReplyDeleteI think Robert Carlyle would be cast in a larger role, plus with him being in Once Upon a Time I don't see it happening... I would take Carlyle in any role on Thrones!
I like Dominic West as Mance Rayder.
ReplyDeleteNice to see that Julian Seager has been fan nominated for the Mero role, because as his agent, I had submitted him for this role, and he has trained with the Game of Thrones combat trainer, so maybe this has possibilities?
ReplyDeleteNo news yet! Woudn't be able to say if there was though;)
ReplyDeleteI would like West in most any role!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by the site to share some info!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Sure tease a mildly-obsessive fan in need of an off-season 12-step program for Game of thrones addiction... :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck... if there really has been no news that is.
What about Alan Tudyk for Beric Dondarrion?
ReplyDeleteClive Russell has been cast as The Blackfish, according to his management company--->
ReplyDeletehttp://www.shepherdmanagement.co.uk/news/film-and-tv
Awesome catch thank you!
ReplyDeleteDarque,i looked up Natalie Emmanuel and they already have her listed being in episode six.. I could kick myself for not reading the books first,i am having a hard time trying to keep who's who and who might be.Its making me dizzy!
ReplyDeleteThat's cool Darque! r u sure u don't want to be professor??? :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a pic she posted that I have linked above. It shows a script that reads "confidential" and "Episode 306" and has a light watermark that looks to read "Game of Thrones.
ReplyDeleteNo word on who she will be though.....
All these twitter rumors are SO EXCITING!
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only one that finds them fun!
ReplyDeleteSure, I will like a bit of a stalker at times as I follow twitter accounts or connect with others that are following airport departure schedules, but it is fun! XD
Darque, sorry to bother you but here are spoilers from TV Line,on Revenge,Castle and Bones, maybe you would like to post?
ReplyDeletehttp://tvline.com/2012/07/03/revenge-spoilers-gossip-girl-bones/
OMG! So many new caractheres! How am I going to follow??? It's gonna be pretty hard!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard for even the most obsessive fans!
ReplyDeleteIf you think the series is hard imagine the books....
The 5 books so far have more than 1900 characters total!- about 50 being key characters- about 150 being important characters- about 200 being fairly important characters- maybe 500 being minor characters- maybe 800 being background characters- maybe 200 or so historical figures.
It is astounding the level of depth GRRM provides!
Hate to interrupt again,i have something else for you to post...Its from Huff Post,on Homeland,S2 spoilers on Carrie a & Brody.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/03/homeland-season-2-spoilers_n_1644512.html
Do you have any idea where i can submit this stuff,or do you know when Andy will be back? I hate to keep bothering you! Thanks Darque!
I thought you HAD been submitting and things were not being posted! XD
ReplyDeleteClick the "Features" drop-down menu and in the right column near the bottom is the "submit" link. It's red.
I was doing that but it wasn't getting posted so i figured Andy was away and that was why it wasn't getting posted...?
ReplyDeleteI see he is back will do!
ReplyDeleteYes he was away on vacation I believe...
ReplyDeleteSo it could have slowed the system down possibly I guess... I know he is back very soon.
I see he is back now,i re-submitted them. Thanks Darque, didn't mean to bother you!
ReplyDeleteNot a bother!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind posting things for people if I'm around and others are not. XD
I would be patient though, I'm sure there is a ton of backlog to work through after he is back from vacation.
I bet right about now Andy could use a vacation from his post-vacation catch up! XD
Ha! Your right! I know you don't mind,i just felt like i've been bugging you lately..
ReplyDeleteI submitted,if he can get to find,if you want find to that's fine too.Its out of my hands at this point...and yes, he is going to need another vacation, there must be quite a bit of catching up to do!
I've heard Viggo Mortensen mentioned for Mance Rayder. He would fit the role well, but I doubt wether they could get him.
ReplyDeleteAfter the mindblowing A Storm of Swords I took a long break from ASoIaF, exactly because I knew the next two books split the characters and include some POVs of the people we never even heard about before. I was afraid after the amazing book 3, book 4 would be disappointing. I started reading it last week, months after ASoS and it is exactly what I expected it to be. For me it isn't half as interesting as the previous books. I have the impression every other chapter is by Cersei or Jaime and I never really liked the Lannister twins, just warming up to Jaime a little bit lately. Then there are all those chapters from the Iron Islands and I really hate the Ironmen. Sansa's storyline is in stagnation, there is very little of the ones who interest me the most (Arya, Sam), I don't really care for Brienne and her quest, it's kind of boring. The most interesting parts are the Dorne ones for me. There is much more talking than acting and it's also kind of annoying. And to be honest, the loss of Tyrion is terribly painful. So yeah, you can say book 4 is a disappointment after book 3, at least so far (for now, I've only read about 1/4 of it).
ReplyDeleteWow, that many?!? I wonder how GRRM keeps them straight in his mind? Each with their own personality...wow that's mind boggling, and i'm flabbergasted!!
ReplyDeleteIT is pretty nuts!
ReplyDeleteI mean some are mostly mentioned charcters and not given dynamic personalities, but it is still one of the most detailed fantasy worlds I have ever read...
And GRRM does in fact have trouble keeping them straight! XD
When he writes a chapter he passes it along to under-fan Ellio at Westeros.com and he peruses it for continuity errors!
Yeah really nuts! Okay the key characters pretty easy, but getting into 150 characters that's juggle time, now 200 fairly important characters, that's wow insane time! The storyboards must be insane!!! Who does Under-fan Ellio pass it on to...no really its just him or does he have help. I don't know why i am having a hard time wrapping my brain around this!! ;)
ReplyDeleteFor the love of the Gods will someone please cast Ian McShane. He was the best thing about Deadwood.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Ian McShane as the King Beyond the Wall but I dont think that will happen. I also think Mads Mikkelsen would be a great fit
ReplyDeleteAwesome tv series, I just hope they start season 3 soon, Hope to find more news on Comic Con
ReplyDeleteIsn't there already an actor for Beric Dondarion? We saw Ned giving him an order to bring 'The Mountain' to justice in season 1.
ReplyDeleteQyburn -- Patrick Moorhouse would be good for this role
ReplyDeleteA little note: Lady Selise Florent has already been introduced in episode 2x01, during the sacrifice of the old gods by Melisandre, alongside Stannis, is petite and maybe you have not noticed but there is she! XD
ReplyDeleteYou're right.
ReplyDeleteI think that was just an extra though. D&D gave a list of roles to be cast and both she and Beric (who was also seen in Season 1) were on the list so I assume that new actors will be in the roles.
i thought beric dondarion was already cast?? he had a very small part in season 1, remember when the mountain was pillaging and robert was off hunting so ned sent beric to stop them?
ReplyDeletei want a role in game of throns : (

ReplyDeleteWhat role do you think will fit Charlie Hunnam, If he was to make a guest appearance?!
Really no clue.
ReplyDeleteHe could easily play some knight that gets killed or a Night's Watchman , maybe a Wildling even. No role jumps to mind really....
Maybe Balon Swann, but he needs to be around a while and I assume that any role Hunnam would do would be short-term....
Maybe Ser Hyle Hunt?
well.. in my link it seems he wants to play a minor role or so.. My choice is he looks more of a Lannister so Daven Lannister...maybe
ReplyDeleteDaven Lannister would be a good fit for sure.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I think Ryan Hurst who plays Opie has the hair and beard already! XD
While I'm thinking of Sons of Anarchy actors....
Most of the cast is American and likely will not be cast in Thrones, but there has to be a place for Tommy Flanagan somewhere!Even if he is from the US, Ron Perlman would make a perfect Aero Hotah! XD
Still no Mance :(
ReplyDeleteCouple of interesting rumors the last two days! Both sourced from management resumes so one would think they are official. All the previous management CVs found have turned out to be accurate.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for all the updates, Darque! XD It's spectacular!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteBeen an interesting few months of rumors and most even turned out to be true!
Ciaran Hinds will play Mance rayder! :D
ReplyDeleteVery insightful post. Thanks! Can't wait to see what they come up with for season 3.
ReplyDeletechristopher judge for strong belwas!
ReplyDeleteThat has got to be Val! Now who is Hoat?
ReplyDeleteNo confirmation I know, but I still think Tom Brooke will be Vargo Hoat.
ReplyDeleteCiarĂ¡n Hinds is certainly the best casting so far. I mean, who doesn't remember him as Caesar in Rome? That was one hell of a emperor.
ReplyDeleteKristofer Hivju will be Tormund Giantsbane
ReplyDeleteWOW so many characters.
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh, amazing cast !!
