Thanks to Kahlan for the heads up.
Looking to Fringe‘s final, 13-episode season, Torv confirms that Season 4′s Episode 19 – in which she did not appear (thus affording her a chance to hang with her visiting mum in Vancouver) – will inform what’s to come. Though she has not yet been made privy to how much of a time jump will occur between seasons, she’s confident that, save for maybe flashbacks, we won’t see Olivia pregnant. But other than that, “I’m not sure where Olivia is,” given her eventual and rather conspicuous MIA status in the year 2036.
“I don’t know if they’ll go for it,” she starts with a chuckle, “but I would love for her to have not been put in amber [like her team mates], but for her to have been hanging around…. sitting on the sidelines and teaching [daughter] Etta the ropes, sort of pulling the strings from behind, where the Observers can’t get her.”
Such a scenario presents, however, an “age”-old problem. And Torv knows it, yet has a fix for it. “People are like, ‘But what about you aging?’ And I’m like, ‘She’s been on cortexiphan!’ Then I would be able to work with Georgina [Haig, Etta]” – if the other Australian actress comes back.
Then again, it very well may be Olivia’s destiny to die a hero’s death. “I’d be happy with that, too,” Torv allows. “Yeah. I would be happy with that.”

I will miss them too :(
ReplyDeletei would not be happy with a hero's death for Olivia.. unless it was the very last episode. and even then i'll be devastated!
ReplyDeleteAnna Torv makes me smile, even on really tough days.
ReplyDeleteI kind of wonder if she was taken to a research facility (the promos for LOT showed us a logo for "The Ministry of Science") or went into hiding, or put into a different kind of animated suspension. I think Etta said she hadn't seen her parents (as in both of them) since she was four, so I def think if Olivia is alive in that future, she hasn't been with Etta either (and this begs the question of whom has...Nina Sharp perhaps?)
ReplyDeleteI think the future is trying to rewrite the past and what the past was for 2036, may be course corrected by them so that again another bad future doesn't repeat...In that case, one reoccuring theme of the series is that every time blue Olivia dies and isn't saved, the universes die too, so I could see that 2036 may represent another sanario where that is the case, but now Etta perhaps is trying to change that....
I am still suspicious about the time line itself, but despite that I am really looking forward to season 5 and how it renders some of these things.
I think Anna Torv always has this real positive outlook in her interviews! I would love to see Etta reunite with Olivia at some point...I think seeing what LOT set up, at least in terms of Etta's reality, it would be a much rewarded build once we see how these stories play out! (:
I really wouldn't want that either....
ReplyDeleteI actually think one version of Walter could die before the end of the series. He really seems to be the staple note of redemption including inspiring that in others. I think other versions of Walter and Bell are responsible for the Observers creation (in another time line), but like always, there were unforeseen consequences, and I think we are on the verge of having the latest reincarnates come full circle with that realization, as the Observers have officially turned sour...
ReplyDeleteI could see the 2036 time period having that as the result, but then also have them work backwards to remedy it...Olivia's death always seems to spell out nigh mare sanarious for the universes, so perhaps what ever that other version of her death (or disappearance) was/might be, maybe is part of the motivation that had set this 2036 and the Observers occupation into motion??
ReplyDeleteTrue,i just hope they can save that part of her with cortexifan, but i do not know if that will be enough? Until we start hearing things and seeing clips, and whatnot we are just speculating away.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know what to make of Peter's reaction in LoT when we saw him, newly out of amber, and he wasn't focused on going to get Olivia. Etta had apparently lost both parents at the same time. Did they go somewhere and Olivia died before him? He'd still be grieving. It seems he knows where she is and knows she's safe. We're going to keep making things up all summer, ya know? Until Fringe comes back.
ReplyDeleteYep,that's my thinking also....
ReplyDeleteI'm getting a bad feeling were not gonna see a lot of Olivia in Season 5
ReplyDeleteHopefully they start filming soon, and well get some idea of storylines.
Anyone have any idea when shooting of season 5 starts, with only 13 episodes they may not start as early as they used to, i think it was mid July last year if I'm not mistaken.
Its gonna be a looooooooong summer
ReplyDeletei agree . so far Olivia died twice and peter was erased because of Walter's actions .so far 2 timelines after we deal with his ideas and mistakes. In s3 Peter was erased because of Walter/Machine/War and in s4 Olivia died because of Walter's idea to make a new world by destroy 2 worlds. Peter was the motivation in both occasions. One to save him and that lead to Walternate/machine/war etc and here Peter .both died and Walter conceived the idea Bell almost made it true through Olivia. but in both timelines behind everything we have the observers/September i wont be surprised if the observers were Walter's idea ...and we have a reason for Walter in 2036 have his full mind back. I dont think Olivia is heading to death...at least now...they played that card in full form this season if they wanted her to die they wouldnt kill her in the finale and they would leave open the prophecy and her not being around in 2036 would make the math. Now she already died in s3 and she died again in s4 if she dies once and for all in s5 im gonna say she is the most unlucky character in tv ...
ReplyDeleteAfter everything they went through they deserve a happy ending imo!
ReplyDeleteThe only one I could see dying is Walter... Not that I want that to happen!
Sad this is the last season of Fringe.. Have no idea how the show is gonna end. But I sure would like to see Etta and Ella back!
ReplyDeletethat depends how they will set up the story since s2 either they play between worlds ep per ep maybe they will play episode focused in 2036 and etta fringe team trying to work on the device and episode showing us how the observers took over in 2015? 13 episodes without the red verse at least until finale ( i still think they will show the redverse) will be focused on the main team/etta and the observers ..i think LoT set up the mystery of where is Olivia ...
ReplyDeleteI could see them start pretty much after Etta was born until 2015 when the purge happened.
ReplyDeletePart of me wondered if they needed William Bell's hand to access a special building. I agree that Peter's reaction seemed to convey an "acceptance" and not distress...but "Peter and the Machine" canon comic, points out this idea that Peter(s) have been afraid to loose Olivia over and over and over again, and that choosing "Balance" was for Peter to sacrifice himself for her sake...and then he re-materialized.... there's a good argument that he does have an effect still, and perhaps that's one reason for Olivia's memory transference, and maybe why she still faces a murderistic-existentialism. -But another facet also seems to stem that blue Olivia never makes it to motherhood, so going with something like family cosmology where the role to save the universes can succeed if there way for it to "pass on"...(I mean basically creating an alternate reality time and time again is like the same thing macro-cosmically) would also be interesting if that in itself has the potential to create "new life" and allow for shifting of roles...So the task falls on Etta and Etta's has to play "role reversal" by changing the past to help her mother succeed so they both could have a better future...
ReplyDeleteThere was an important detail that was left out of the aired version of LoT: the original casting call for the part of Simon described him as an agent for the other side. They did NOT mention that at all. Why, you may ask? I think it's because the team will use Bell's hand to break into the other universe.
ReplyDeleteThis show is going to break my heart,i just know it..As the water works begin....i'll be back!
ReplyDeleteJWyman is already working and up to episode 3,he is thinking a September 21 for S5 to kick off. But That Has Not Been Confirmed Yet.
ReplyDeleteI don't know when they plan on filming but it must be soon.Wyman is already on episode three, and there is a rumor that S5 has a start date of September 21........
ReplyDeleteActually I think the casting call described him as "an alternate agent"...it didn't specify universe, some of us took it as such since so far what we precieve as alternate was another parallel universe, butthe word alternate just means "different than such and such". Technically different time periods can be considered their own realities and thus 2036 can be alternate to any other existence. Even the 2026 is a time period in yet another time line (one that had already existed), so even that little glimpse still presents alternate compared to what we would perceive as primary characters....
ReplyDeleteYAY! Hope it's true! --I am kind of curious if we are going to get 13 straight, or if they're going to split it! The agony of watching like 5-7 episodes and then waiting till the end of January for the last 6 or so, would be incredibly gut wrenching XD
ReplyDeleteHa! I know! Today is the first time i saw his Tweets, and tweeting about the show.
ReplyDeletewhen i read he was up to episode 3 i was kinda surprised,i wonder when they start productions??? I tweeted him wanting to know if it would go straight thru or not.Lets see if i get an answer....i doubt it,so don't hold your breath,ha!
No. I found the original news story; and I was right: Simon WAS supposed to be from Over There. Here's the link:

I just thought of something that might shoot down that theory, though; Olivia doesn't have her Cortexiphan powers anymore, so how would she get to the other side?
I… I can’t even… I don’t even want to think about it,” she says of
ReplyDeletebidding Agent Olivia Dunham’s alt self goodbye. Shaking her head in
disbelief and with palpable affection for a fictional being coloring her voice, she shares, “I’m totally going to miss her! I can’t believe they let me have her for so long.” ...
*sniff* Yeah I'm gonna miss her too... Alt-Livvie... Damn...!
♥
I believe Seriable just assumed, because here is SpoilerTV's original post:
ReplyDelete--------------------------
FRINGE, Episode #419Director: Akiva GoldsmanWriters: TBDShoot Dates: On or about Feb 27-March 8Location: Vancouver[ALTERNATE UNIVERSE MALE FBI AGENT] Late 30s to early 40s. Open ethnicity. He is a strong, confidant and a leader. GUEST LEAD. One episode. Open to actors that are on a series currently on hiatus. Also open to comedic actors.[ALTERNATE UNIVERSE FEMALE FBI AGENT] Early 20s. Caucasian. She’s a part of our Alternate Fringe Division and is smart, articulate, strong, confidant and really good at her job. GUEST LEAD. Possibly Recurring.--------------------------------------In any case it does not say Red, or "other side" agent....in fact the FBI agent threw off people too, because the FBI doesn't exist on the red side(s).We just assumed alternate universe agent must have meant over there, because it was the easiest thing to assume since we also didn't know it was set in a possible future. In the episode the Fringe team/tech check out all know whom Simon was, so it wasn't like he was a mystery figure in that universe. I am not saying he couldn't be from the red universe, but, unless the Observers purged both sides, he was on the blue side, as he tells Etta his experience on the day starting of the 2015 purge....This future could still be perceived as "alternate universe" on it'sown (because it shows a difference in time compared to any other) and/or if they are trying to change the past to create a new branch off, then this future may not match any other.
Someone asked Joel Wyman if Olivia was going to be in the first ep and he tweeted back:
ReplyDeleteLol. Olivia is IN THIS in a big way.
So I was rewatching LOT for a fourth time....
ReplyDeleteand I caught this exchange
BROYLES: Windmark. What did you do up there in the future... to get yourself such a crap detail?CAPTAIN WINDMARK: I like animals.Later Walter explains: WALTER: They weren't all bad, you know. One of them even tried to help us. He was called September. What happened to him was... well, unexpected. He told me that, in the year 2609 A.D., they finally ruined the planet. They poisoned it -- the air, the water. And when it was fundamentally uninhabitable, then they traveled back through time, and took our planet from us. Yes, I can build it.It's unclear by both of these statements what the truth is. If 2609 is the time that provokes them, and they traveled back to to take control, then what Broyles says almost suggests that there is still another future date that plays a role, as his remarks suggest that Widmark came here because he was sent from the future back (suggesting there is still a future to be sent from), but also then continues to point out the hierarchy. But perhaps this is another time period other than 2609, unless many things in many time periods are acting simultaneously and all interrelated...But also did Walter mean Sepetember told them the Observers ruined the planet or that humanity did? ("they" isn't a specific enough pronoun in this context)
Seems very "Matrix"y.
ReplyDeleteHumanity blocked out the sun to try and stop the machines there. Humanity poisoned the Earth to try and stop the Observers here because it was their last resort measure to "win" the war.
Awwww :( I'm sure it will turn out ok. As long as the dont pull a Lost on us, I'll be ok with it.
ReplyDeleteYeah I tweeted him the Day after season 5 renewal asking him will it be a straight run of episodes. he never replied. He probably doesn't know himself yet.. with the football, I cant see them fitting 13 episodes in before new year, unless they do a 2 hour premiere and a 2 hour Finale.
ReplyDeleteBesides theyd wanna be starting filming pretty much now, to get 13 episodes in the can, before December
If we dont get a straight run of episodes I can see it starting late say late October or November pretty much like Bones did last year. getting 4 or 5 episodes in before xmas
ReplyDeleteand then the usual 7 or 8 episode run from Feb.... Im still hoping for more than 13 episodes
I tweeted asking him if it was possible for more than 13 episodes,if Fringe could be picked up on another network,or a movie. Wyman already said no to a movie at WonderCon,but i thought maybe after LOT he might of changed his mind, but i course i didn't get a reply...
ReplyDeleteHa! this just adds to the mystery of Fringe, and it makes us want it even more! :)
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteI'm willing to bet 13 episodes would include a 2-hour series finale of 12 and 13 combined. That would make sense for the Fall timeframe if it's Sept 21.
ReplyDeleteglad i got the final, 100 episodes woop
