Fringe showrunners and executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman are setting the record straight on speculation that an alternate ending was shot for the season four closer in case the Fox drama did not return in the fall.
"No, we did not shoot an alternate ending," Wyman told reporters on a recent conference call when asked whether the other scene would be on the season DVD set. "We thought about it, but we did not."
It had been revealed in interviews by cast members that there were two potential endings filmed, depending on the show's fate.

I just read the same thing over at TV Line. The producers are also being very coy about the status of Lincoln and the red universe.

This put a big :D on my face!
ReplyDeleteA couple of these answers could be used in an English text as examples of being cryptic. :-D
ReplyDeleteAnd wouldn't you know. 2 eps from the end of the season and which universe is Red and which is Blue *finally* sinks into my addled brain.
I'm somewhat happy with this. They must have had a pretty good idea before they shot the finale that FOX was going to pick them up no matter what.
ReplyDeleteKind of relieved actually. :)
ReplyDelete*Pfoeii... This makes me happy... "No Alternate Ending" ... I'm sooo relieved tbh. Alt-Livvie... *Le Sigh*

It's a good thing that they were confident! When you're confident about something it happens - and they got a new season!
ReplyDeleteTell that to Tim Kring and the cast of Heroes
ReplyDeleteI'd say they did shoot an alternate ending which they will use or plan to use for the actual series ending
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love Heroes there's a landslide of a difference in quality between both shows ;]
ReplyDeleteExactly, and they don't want to spoil the concept of the ending... or explain why the alternate ending is not on the DVD set. It would make lots of questions.
ReplyDeleteSo... did John Noble, Lance Reddick and Joshua Jackson lie?
ReplyDeleteyeah, 1st season of Heroes was absolutely fantastic, then about half way through 2nd I stopped watching :(
ReplyDeleteI don't know what to believe, perhaps there wasn't an alternate ending, but an alternate scene sometime before the ending? In any case it doesn't matter. We have our season five and I am ready to watch the finale episodes and pine over season 5 all summer long!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they did lie. I think they will have shot a scene that leads into season five which will follow a scene that could be a series end scene. If it had been the series finale they would have cut the last scene. In the eyes of the cast this is an alternate ending, in the eyes of the producers it's cutting an unnecessary scene (well not unnecessary now because we'll see it). Perhaps they were thinking of writing an extra alternate end had it been the end but I think that they are probably happy enough with what they had so decided against writing a new scene. So I think we'll get a nice 2nd last scene of the season that could wrap everything up and then something new in the very last scene.
ReplyDeletelittle convenient to say it after it has been renewed...
