Community - New showrunners meeting with writers

22 May 2012

Vulture has heard from multiple sources that new Community showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port have already scheduled meetings with several current Community scribes to talk about their futures with the series. This is not necessarily a big surprise, but it does indicate that some staffers are open to continuing with the series post-Harmon. Sony has staff writer deals in place with many of the show's scribes; it's unclear if the studio would force any writers to remain with the show.

  3. " it's unclear if the studio would force any writers to remain with the show." it would be majorly stupid from Sony to force writers to stay. I guess they wouldn't really be in the mood to write good comedy when they were forced to do it. Nothing says comedy better than forced writing.

Glad that the writers seem willing to chat with the new guys.

  6. Just keeping my fingers crossed that all will go well that the creative vision that Dan Harmon had for the show will be honored..

  7. I'm glad some of the original writers are willing to stay to keep the show afloat. I think everyone would be very nervous if it was a whole new staff.

I'll give it a shot come the season 4 premiere, but I am not hoping for much...

  8. can the network do that? doesn't Dan have any stake in the show's ownership? I mean, it's HIS show!

  9. I hate NBC so much right now...

  10.  Well they did offer him a position, though its in name only,so i doubt he will take it.Does he have any ownership,i've no idea what was in his contract?

  11. they might as well cancel the show and make a new one instead of pissing on an existing show and making the already less number of fans mad...

  12.  Yes i agree! I don't know what the hell NBC was thinking and i don't know why they let Sony Inc dictate his firing? There is an interesting article about it in The Hollywood Reporter,i read it 2 days ago,it was enlightening to say the least, check it out!

  13.  yes. in an article he says he owns 10 percent of the show and that since he created the show, he can't exactly be fired from it completely. So, he will be given some other title but basically, he won't have any say in the show.

  14. Dan Harmon: "If I actually chose to go to the office, I wouldn’t have any power
there. Nobody would have to do anything I said, ever.  I
would be 'offering' thoughts on other people’s scripts, not allowed to
rewrite them, not allowed to ask anyone else to rewrite them, not
allowed to say whether a single joke was funny or go near the edit bay,
etc.  I’m not saying you can’t make a good version of Community
without me, but I am definitely saying that you can’t make my version
of it unless I have the option of saying 'it has to be like this or I
quit' roughly 8 times a day."

That is exactly what I have been saying. The Community we are going to get as season 4 will not be the Community that we know and like, it will be a similar one, but not Dan Harmon's Community. And anyone who has watched even a single episode of the show will say that someone can't just walk in and run the show without ruining it completely.

  15. Yes in name only.its going to be a different show with the same characters, but even the characters will change to some degree, with new writers they don't have that familiarity that you would expect with a show going into another season.

  16. Really?

For me, S2 and 3 have outstripped S1.
