According to Deadline, The CW's new Kristen Kreuk starring procedural Beauty and the Beast might be getting the post-Vampire Diaries timeslot on Thursdays at 9pm.
I'm sorry, I know it's a reboot on a show from before the Disney flick, but I just absolutely can't accept "Beauty and the Beast" and "police procedural".
This is the one and only pilot I would like to fail.
CW is so stupid! This is their first actual procedural and they go and put it to face Person of Interest. I'm not a fan of the rumored CW schedule that came out the other day, but the Wednesday @8p slot seemed good since no other network(especially CBS) aires a procedural in that slot.
I'm with Thomas on this one. I don't think there's a lot of overlap between the audiences. I'm guessing this isn't going to feel anything like a CBS procedural--well I hope it doesn't!
my guess is it'll be more like SPN in its procedural elements but have an underlying mythology. I like the idea of the show though I probably wont watch.
I'm guessing you're right, supernatural/magicy wackiness and some crime/mystery solving each week. Putting it with TVD to me means they are going after the female genre audience. So throw some romance/tension on top too.
I remembering liking the original...but I was like 6. I liked a lot of crap stuff then. Although I'm still not apologizing for Air Wolf. That was one bada** helicopter.
I would have much rather preferred that Arrow was paired with TVD but, for The CW, I suppose this makes more sense. Beauty and the Beast will be a much more female skewing show than Arrow will be.
If they pair Nikita and Arrow on Wednesdays, I suppose I'd be okay with that.
I'm kinda liking Arrow with SPN still. I'd feel bad for Arrow starting Friday, but not that bad because they changed Green Arrow from Justin Hartley, and I haven't forgiven that yet.
this is what I'm going with. They cant possibly be considering pairing Nikita with Arrow, for a start Nikita would have to lead to keep affiliates happy (they'll want a new show in at 9pm to ensure higher ratings leading into whats on next) and secondly a 0.4 lead in for the highly anticipated Arrow?
The 1987 series it's kinda rebooting worked okay with police procedural - the Beast kinda played backup for the cop. I still would rather they rerun that series than remake it, but hopefully you'll be surprised with how well the 'procedural' side of things can work for this show.
I watch Person of Interest and I wanna watch B&tB. I'm not saying that the audiences will clash, but I just think the show would have a better chance at being placed in a slot where no other procedurals are airing.
Majority of the shows I watch are procedurals and I watch a few serialized CW shows. With this being CW's 1st procedural, I really want it to succeed.
Also, I'm not so sure that TVD fans will even stick around for this.
no i ahte that idea i dont want it paired with SPN cause then it ruins the chances of it becoming a big hit it wont get 3+million viewers like i want it to if its on fridays such a terrible timeslot to launch a new show on and i prefer they put the cult on fridays cause its kind of the same genre as supernatural i hope they put arrow and nikita on wednesdays and they could put ANTM on fridays before supernatural for all i care it wouldnt effect SPN's ratings and atleast it would hurt arrow's ratings that way like if they put it on friday
If they pair Arrow with SPN I doubt it will be on Friday. Pairing it with SPN though will increase its chances of being a hit as SPN at least has decent ratings (2nd highest rated show on the CW). Nikita as a lead in for Arrow? If the CW do this they deserve for the show to bomb.
Well If this Is true then I guess this would be lineup
Monday-First cut,Hart of Dixie Tuesday-90210,The Carrie Diaries Wedsday-Arow,September-December-America's Next top model.Janury through march-Gossip Girl.March thorugh may-Cult Thursday-The Vampire Diaires,Beauty and the beast friday-Nikita,Supernatural
The CW Is very unlucky to ever move Supernatural.and the CW will never premiere a new show on Friday.
If the Cw didn't move Smallville out of friday for It's final season what makes you think they will for Supernatural.I personally would like Nikita on Wedsday. It could get a 0.7 or 0.8 In demo. But,right now the best sceniro looks like the friday night combination of Nikita and Supernatural will continue.
Nikita and SPN on Friday is the most likely scenario. SPN isnt an 8pm show and I dont see them moving it off Friday. Nikita isnt likely to increase in ratings no matter where it lands, it would be a piss poor lead in for any show, luckily SPN has a loyal fanbase and Nikita's low ratings dont affect it.
UGHGHHHHHGHGHGHGH Kill me now. Why don't the just jump onto a Veronica Mars reboot? Hell, pick up 5 years later in the FBI IDGAF but anything's better than this drivel they are throwing at us lately.
But we don't even know if it's going to be an actual procedural in the "each weeks there's a new case" sense. It may just be, like someone below me said, like Supernatural. And my guess is it probably will be. I'm sure the cases, or most of them, will tie into a larger mythology.
And I'm sure the who romantic aspect will play a major part. Which is, obviously, something a large part of the TVD audience is interested in.
I know. That's why I said it was a reboot of a show from before the Disney flick.
But I'll never see the phrase "Beauty and the Beast" and think anything other than the Disney version, and that's the farthest thing from "police procedural".
I loved Veronica Mars. One of my favorite shows ever.
But it got dismissed by people because it's premise made it sound silly. Let's not make the same mistake with other shows, lest they be just as awesome.
I can maybe see it with Nikita or SPN, but Hart of Dixie? Gossip Girl? 90210? These don't really seem to fit with my idea of the audience of Arrow. If they are putting B&TB with Vampire Diaries because Arrow skews male, how do they justify putting that with America's Next Top Model? I don't know how they make these decisions, and I don't memorize all the ratings numbers. But going by feel, I think keeping Nikita and SPN together on Fridays and hanging Arrow out to dry with a teen angst gossip show as its partner is a strange plan.
I think they would make a good fit, but pairing a low rated show like Nikita with one of the more buzzworthy pilots sounds like a miffy strategy (no matter how compatible they might be).
You should give the original TV show a chance. It might surprise you if you can get past the horrendous fashion of the times. I think its on Netflix instant streaming now.
My bets were that Arrow got the post-VD slot. If it doesn't, then it means the CW is either moving Supernatural (which would surprise me) or it thinks Arrow is strong enough to launch itself. That would be a very risky move on their part since they thought the same with Ringer this year. The CW does need to take risks in programming this year but this is not one of them. Without a surefire, passing VD numbers hit this upcoming season, the CW may as well consider itself dead in 2016. They need to do everything in their power to ensure that Arrow is that hit. I expect tons of promotion and a lion's share of the budget to go to Arrow.
Agree with the last sentence. VD fans have already proven that if they don't like what follows VD they will bail. Nikita and Secret Circle proved that. I do think they will heavily promote the relationship on B& B and try to use that as the hook for VD fans.
Making Kristin Kruek as the lead pretty much guaranteed that they were looking for the same audience they always have for CW shows. Definitely shooting for the college age female demo here.
I'm leaning towards this schedule makes as little sense as the last one posted. If they pair Arrow and Nikita, then Nikita has officially become the new CW Gossip Girl, a show that keeps getting promoted and renewed for no earthly reason but is known to be the head of the network's baby. If that's where they are going the CW deserves to fold. Likewise they deserve to fold if they put Arrow on Friday nights, like you pointed out earlier.
The only logical step would be to put Arrow and Supernatural on a different night and that is just mind-blowing to me. Perhaps I'm so used to SPN being shafted by the CW network head that it is almost inconceivable. It would make business sense in that SPN is the second highest rated show and so putting it on Friday night is just strange. Still SPN is doing very well on Friday for the CW and it's hard to believe they would gamble with that.
Have to say that the CW has one thing going for its upfronts that absolutely none of its shows has going for them. They are the most talked about network this week because they are the most up in the air. I expect to be shocked by something tomorrow, if not most things.
The Vampire Diaries isn't special in this regard. No lead-out will retain a stronger lead-in's audience if it isn't up to snuff or isn't a good fit. I think the issue here is getting off to a good start, because TVD has DEFINITELY givn a huge boost to the Nikita and The Secret Circle pilots. The issue here is holding their interest, because both of those shows took far too long to get going, and by the time they did, they lost the advantage.
The whole notion of putting TVD with a show because it skews female is strange, though. I can't find the actual demographics, but I'd be surprised if TVD didn't win in every broad demographic, female and male, across the network. That's typically what happens when you have 75%-100% more viewers than any other show on the channel. And even if Supernatural does have more M18-34 viewers, it can't be by a lot, and that'd mean debuting your highest potential show on a Friday.
According to USA Today, you are right. Supernatural moves to Wednesday and is paired with Arrow. http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/story/2012-05-16/CW-fall-lineup/55029662/1

And she was right and TVD continues to be The CW's strongest show. Similarly, the next year SPN was moved to Fridays "to die" but "surprisingly" the SMV/SPN pairing was responsible for The CW's second strongest night - on the least watched night of the TV week.
Mark Pedowitz is a fan of SPN and as such is more likely to move SPN to a "better night"; SPN was the CW's #2 show for much of post winter hiatus and it deserves a better timeslot. I hope that SPN is moved to Wednesdays and paired with Arrow.
Sarah Connor flirting with Hellboy in terrible make-up, based on the same french fairytale as one of my favorite movies, which was entirely different? I can give it a go, but it's an uphill battle.
As for the reboot, the fact that I LOATHED Kreuk on Smallville probably doesn't help. Biggest case of show cancer I can remember.
Actually that fact that Kreuk is starring is the reason I won't be watching also. I liked the original although I barely remember it now. I hated Lana! She's the reason i stopped watching Smallville.
According to this article: http://geekfurious.blogspot.com/2011/06/what-geek-tv-show-has-youngest-viewers.html , VD skewed 34% male last season. Supernatural skewed 50% male last season. Presuming that the percentages held for this season and using last weeks final viewer numbers, that would mean that 863,600 males watched VD last week while 830,000 males watched SPN last week. *nods* yeah Smallville and SPN worked great together and I do think Arrow and SPN would also make a good fit, but I really don't think they would bury Arrow on Friday, nor that they'll move Supernatural from that noght either (It's not as a strong a show as it used to be to anchor a midweek night, and also SPN is the only thing the CW can put on a Friday night that will guarantee them decent ratiings).
Good point... but they will need to find something to pair Arrow with eventaully... If they are happy with Arrow, why not nurture it behind TVD in S1 and then if it does catch on for S2 move it to another night as a headliner? Regardless if they are willing to give the sweet spot of the schedule to B&tB they must have some faith in that project too....
Well to be fair, the main difference between GG and Nikita is that Nikita quality wise is actually a good show, and gets that praise. GG hasn't been offered that courtesy since S2.....
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I'm sorry, I know it's a reboot on a show from before the Disney flick, but I just absolutely can't accept "Beauty and the Beast" and "police procedural".
ReplyDeleteThis is the one and only pilot I would like to fail.
Glee is going to murder this show.
ReplyDeleteGood. I think it'd benefit from The Vampire Diaries.

ReplyDeleteI thought Vampire diaries was on at 9pm.
ReplyDeleteHuh.... if this is what they're thinking of, then they must be really happy with this pilot....
ReplyDeleteomg this is gonna tank.
ReplyDeleteGlee is too busy killing itself.
ReplyDeleteBecause the people who watch Person of Interest are highly likely to watch Beauty and the Beast?
ReplyDeleteI seriously doubt the potential fans of Beauty are going to clash/crossover with the fans of POI.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Thomas on this one. I don't think there's a lot of overlap between the audiences. I'm guessing this isn't going to feel anything like a CBS procedural--well I hope it doesn't!

Do you realize how many people called Veronica Mars "drivel" at this stage of it's life. "A teen detective series on UPN? Wow, that's going to suck".
ReplyDeleteGranted, I'm not the least bit excited about this show, but judging a book by it's cover is exactly why Veronica Mars didn't get an audience.
I miss Veronica Mars, would do anything to it back.

My primitive understanding is that Dawn sent aging SMV to Fridays to "die"- Fridays are known as the TV Graveyards for a reason - because TVD was a hot new series and Thursdays are the highest ad rate nights with the most viewers. And she was right and TVD continues to be The CW's strongest show. Sarah Connor flirting with Hellboy in terrible make-up, based on the same french fairytale as one of my favorite movies, which was entirely different? I can give it a go, but it's an uphill battle.
ReplyDeleteAs for the reboot, the fact that I LOATHED Kreuk on Smallville probably doesn't help. Biggest case of show cancer I can remember.
Actually that fact that Kreuk is starring is the reason I won't be watching also. I liked the original although I barely remember it now. I hated Lana! She's the reason i stopped watching Smallville.
ReplyDeleteAccording to this article:
ReplyDeletehttp://geekfurious.blogspot.com/2011/06/what-geek-tv-show-has-youngest-viewers.html , VD skewed 34% male last season. Supernatural skewed 50% male last season. ill check out the pilot cosa Kreuk ... noff said :D

Well to be fair, the main difference between GG and Nikita is that Nikita quality wise is actually a good show, and gets that praise.
ReplyDeleteGG hasn't been offered that courtesy since S2.....
And about 20 minutes after I typed the above the official schedule is out....
ReplyDeleteVery well, when it comes out I'll watch the pilot, if I have time.
ReplyDeletelol they could bring it up and get people excited and then not do it and still look like heroes for cancelled shows!
