Lauren Cohan is heading into The Walking Dead‘s third season with a most rare gift: job security.
The actress — who recurred throughout the AMC smash’s killer second season as Hershel’s eldest daughter, Maggie — has been elevated to a full-fledged series regular, TVLine has learned exclusively.
While the promotion would seem to indicate that Glenn’s sweetheart will figure prominently in the show’s upcoming third season, it by no means guarantees she’ll make it out of the season alive. Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey DeMunn were both full-timers when their characters, Shane and Dale respectively, were whacked.
The Walking Dead‘s 16-episode third season, slated to premiere this fall, will likely be divided into two part (much the same way Season 2 was). “The idea is we will do eight-and-eight,” exec producer Robert Kirkman recently told TVLine. “Getting eight-and-eight will almost be like doing two seasons a year, which is cool.”

No shocker here given the events of the comics, I hope they make her more likeable!
ReplyDeleteI really like Lauren Cohan, and I think her mildly underused character is better than half the cast on the show, so this is good news to me. :) It'll be weird to see the updated opening sequence.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they are going to kill off Maggie, at least not yet. I wonder if Scott Taylor (Hershel) will become a regular.
ReplyDeleteWas waiting for this. Cohan is great. I've enjoyed her in previous roles. Good news.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to see the opening too. T-Dog and Carol are still listed after the sequence. Wonder if they will be added the main opening finally.
ReplyDeleteCohen is playing the most likable female character on the show at this point so I'm all for this.
ReplyDeleteNew opening credits.... maybe Maggie will replace the quick shots of Shane and Dale. Would be nice to see diff shots: as in the prison and maybe even Woodbury !
ReplyDeleteOnly problem......... we have a VERY LOOOONG wait ahead of us !
Yay! I'm so happy about that.
ReplyDeleteso Lauren Cohan gets made series regular after first appearing in the first few episodes of season 2..yet T-Dog who's been in the show since the very first few episodes is still being neglected as a character AND continues to be a recurring character..seriously, its the one thing that's letting me down on TWD. the only thing.
ReplyDeleteShe can always become unlikable...
ReplyDeleteTrue but it would take a while to be as unlikable as the other women on this show and by then they could decide to kill her off. :)
ReplyDeleteI read an article on WWK that said Melissa McBride (Carol) had been upgraded to series regular for season 2, which was obviously not true. I think the actress who will be playing Michonne is a series regular too. But most likely McBride and IronE Singleton won't be in the opening credits.
ReplyDeleteWell, as soon as season 3 starts, we know that Michonne will quickly replace her as the most likable female character, if not the most likable character on the show.
ReplyDeleteSince I wrote this comment I read that apparently Singleton is still a recurring role and not a regular one. Still. Guy's been in almost every episode. :/
ReplyDeleteHope so, I like Herschel, especially since he is back down to reality. He might be old but he is a valuable asset and a likeable older character.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sure Michonne will be instantly popular and by the end of her first three episodes she'll probably surpass T-Dog in cumulative screen time.
