SUNDAY 4/29/12 Metered Markets
CBS Wins; GCB and NYC 22 Continue to Disappoint

Fox 2.6/ 4

-Winners:
60 Minutes (CBS)

-Honorable Mention:
The Amazing Race (CBS), Once Upon a Time (ABC), Harry’s Law (NBC), The Good Wife (CBS)

Dateline (NBC), The Cleveland Show (Fox), Bob’s Burgers (Fox), GCB (ABC), NYC 22 (CBS)

----------

-Rating Results:
CBS topped the overnights on this final Sunday in April, with a 25 percent advantage over second-place ABC. But the network needs to revamp the 9-11 p.m. block if it wants to stay in the competitive game next season. Granddaddy 60 Minutes took top-rated honors for the evening in the overnights, with a 7.5 rating/14 share at 7 p.m. But it won’t, of course, lead among adults 18-49. Next was The Amazing Race (#1t: 6.2/10 at 8 p.m.), which concludes for the season next Sunday, followed by the season-finale of The Good Wife (#1: 7.2/11) and week three of crime solver NYC 22 (#2: 5.0/ from 9-11 p.m. Year-to-year, NYC 22 was off by 14 percent from CSI: Miami (5.8/ 9 on 5/01/11), with retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of The Good Wife (7.3/11) of 68 percent. There is no way NYC 22 will make it into a second season.

ABC was hoping recent entry GCB could fill in for departing Desperate Housewives next season. But a third-place 4.2/ 7 in the overnights at 10 p.m. last night was down by 29 percent from year-ago occupant Brothers & Sisters (5.7/ 9 on 5/01/11), and it dipped by 30 percent from the 9:30 p.m. portion of Desperate Housewives (6.0/ 9). Although ABC is known for always renewing one modestly rated midseason freshman drama for a second season, there is no reason to believe over-the-top GCB will be the one.

Earlier in the evening on the alphabet network was veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos (#2: 4.1/ 7 at 7 p.m.), followed by sure-to-be renewed Once Upon a Time (#1t: 6.2/10 at 8 p.m.), which built by five percent from year-ago occupant Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (5.9/ 9 on 5/01/11), and soon-to-conclude Desperate Housewives (#2: 6.1/ 9 at 9 p.m.). Considering Desperate Housewives has only two episodes left, no much happened last night.

Elsewhere, Dateline on NBC was barely visible in the 7 p.m. hour, with a third-place 2.5/ 5, but older-skewing Harry’s Law perked up to a 5.4/ 9 at 8 p.m. Comparably, that was 29 percent above short-lived year-ago occupant America’s Next Great Restaurant (4.2/ 7 on 5/01/11). Regardless, Harry’s Law is still on the fence for renewal because of its older skew.

Next on NBC was Celebrity Apprentice, which at a 4.8/ 8 from 9-11 p.m. was 25 percent below one year earlier (6.4/10 on 5/01/11). Next week, let’s hope that Teresa Giudice is the one who explodes already. Aren’t we all sick and tired of listening to loudmouth Lisa Lampanelli go ballistic?

Fox could not compete in the overnights with its 7-10 p.m. combination of a repeat of The Simpsons (#4: 1.7/ 3), The Cleveland Show (#4: 1.9/ 3), the regularly scheduled edition of The Simpsons (#4: 3.2/ 5), Bob’s Burgers (#4: 2.4/ 4), Family Guy (#4: 3.7/ 6) and a second episode of The Cleveland Show (#4: 2.6/ 4). While the animated block on Fox cannot, and should not, be judged by the overnights, it could definitely use a shot of adrenaline next season.

  1. What number will this add up to for OUAT? Last week was adjusted up to 3.0 in the demo

  7. GCB is a great show I don't understand why people don't like it. This is just sad!

If this show gets canceled than I won't have anything but OUAT on Sunday nights to watch.

  8. It's had the same ratings for 2 years now, Always 2.0-2.5 at the beginning of the season, always ending at 1.7-2.0 at the end of the season. Hopefully it stays that way so we can get a season 5 with all the accolades it gets.

  9. If the show gets cancelled surely they'll be replacing it and DH with other shows? Perhaps shiny new ones you might like?

  10. Wow, great for Once Upon a Time! Now here's hoping ABC will just renew it already  :)

  11. With only 2 new hit dramas and the establish L&O SVU, That leaves plenty of room for Harry's Law. I followed it from Monday to Wednesday to Friday to Sunday.

  12. Actually last season low was 1.9 and it was only once for episode 18. 1.7 for this season finale is a series low. The Good Wife is slowly decreasing. Season 1 average was 2.7 season 2 - 2.2 and this season average was 2.0. So it is possible if next season averages even lower that season 4 will be it's last. That's a shame because it is really good show.

  13. Great for Once - winning the night! DH was slightly down but it doesn't matter any more. GCB up 0.4 to 1.9  Too bad for TGW and NYC22 having its series lows.
