-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC led the Tuesday overnights, beating an evening of all repeats on CBS by eight percent. But The Voice on third-place NBC is expected to finish first overall among adults 18-49. Fourth was ABC, followed by The CW, which featured the DOA debut of Canadian drama The L.A. Complex.
The L.A. Complex opened with a mere 0.6 rating/1 share in the overnights at 9 p.m., which dipped from tired lead-in 90210 (1.0/ 2 at 8 p.m.) by 40 percent. Comparatively, The L.A. Complex was off by 25 percent from failed year-ago occupant Hellcats (0.8/ 1 on 4/26/11) and 76 percent from the debut of former time period occupant Ringer (2.5/ 4 on 9/13/11). This could very be The CW’s weakest series debut to-date.
Dancing With the Stars on ABC was the top-rated show of the night, with a 10.9/17 at 9 p.m. Comparatively, that built from lead-in Cougar Town (3.5/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.) by a whopping 211 percent. But retention for Cougar Town out of an encore telecast of Last Man Standing (#4: 4.0/ 7 at 8 p.m.) was adequate at 88 percent. Given its cult following, Comedy Central or TBS would be wise to keep Cougar Town alive if ABC cancels it. As for Dancing With the Stars, so long to the great Gladys Knight.
At 10 p.m. on ABC was week two of Private Practice in its new Tuesday 10 p.m. time period with a dominant 6.5/11. One week earlier, the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off debuted in the hour with a 5.2/ 9 on April 17.
On NBC, a one-hour edition of veteran The Biggest Loser (#3: 4.7/ 8 at 8 p.m.), which should not be expanded back to two hours next season, led into The Voice live results show at a third-place 5.9/ 9 at 9 p.m. Overnight growth for The Voice out of The Biggest Loser was 26 percent. One year earlier, The Voice debuted on the evening with a 7.5/12 from 9-11 p.m. on 4/26/11 (and a 7.2/11 in the 9 p.m. hour).
At 10 p.m., NBC dud reality/competition Fashion Star finished third with a 3.1/ 5 at 10 p.m. For more on The Voice and Fashion Star, click on the following: http://tinyurl.com/726wrzu.
On Fox, Glee, featuring the tribute episode to Whitney Houston, could not stop the bleeding with a second-place 5.2/ 8 in the overnights at 8 p.m. One year earlier, the musical dramedy scored a 6.6/10 on 4/26/11. Next on Fox Fox was New Girl at a fourth-place 4.0/ 6 at 9 p.m., followed by a repeat of the Zooey Dechanel sitcom (in place of Raising Hope, which concluded for the season) at a fourth-place 2.2/ 3 at 9:30 p.m.
CBS capped off the evening with repeats of NCIS (#1: 8.1/13), spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (#2: 6.3/10) and on-the-fence Unforgettable (#2: 5.6/ 9), which is not expected back.

Um, yay for Cougar Town!
ReplyDeleteAnd happy about Private Practice.
Cougar Town Must be watched! One of the best comedies shows out there
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, that's terrible for The L.A. Complex.
ReplyDeleteHa, too much meta on the LA Complex, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI knew the LA Complex would flop its Canadian ratings were terrible was really surprised they ordered 13 more episodes
ReplyDeleteNever bring up Hellcats again, some us are still very bitter, LOL! But seriously The CW needs to get its act together, at this rate They'll have to make TVD have 10 new shows a week forever. I found it really odd that they would pick up a Canadian series. I thought it sounded too much like Melrose Place (you know the first season) and the reboot flamed out in a very big way.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's yet another fail for the CW.
ReplyDeleteWow, good news for Private Practice.
ReplyDeleteI have LAC pencilled in as 0.4 and around 1 million viewers, perhaps that will prove way to optimistic. Then again if it comes in at the same levels as Ringer went out it can be considered a relative hit simply because when it premiered and most of all because its cheap.
ReplyDeleteBesides the CW have no obligation to air all episodes. It was brought in as a summer fix, with the CW wanting to expand the number of original programming through the summer months. I dont think they'll be too dissapointed if it only hits 0.3-0.5 in the demo after all thats what many of its shows have been doing for a while now.
do you really think the CW were expecting it to be a hit given how this season has gone?
ReplyDeleteThey brought a cheap canadian series as a summer filler but with how Ringer bombed they burned that off and moved the show forward. I dont think they had any real expectations for the show, maybe they simply just wanted to increase the number of hours they aired original programming.
they havent had a hit since TVD so thats what 2/3 years now?
ReplyDeleteNo matter how bad PP's ratings get I fully believe it will be back for a final season in the fall.
ReplyDeleteFahion Star should probably be considered a hit by NBC standards.
PP :D
ReplyDeleteHurray! for Private Practice 2.2 that is great (up from last week's 1.7) Glee also up that's good. New girl slightly down but no worries here. 0.3 for LA Complex that's really bad even for CW, even for acquired series. I don't think CW is going to buy remaining 13 episodes.
ReplyDeleteExcellent for PP :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's pathetic. The rookie shows are performing badly and the reality shows are pretty much a bust.
ReplyDeleteGlad Private Practice is doing better after last week.Even though i don't watch it i know a lot of people were upset....
ReplyDeleteI love how NCIS even in repeats kills all the other dramas.that says a lot about the writers and cast!
Idk that they'll cancel The L.A. complex because it's part of the new summer line-up they are doing. They know the ratings would have to be bad for ANY late spring/summer show that they do because the ratings of their regular shows are terrible. I mean, if they expect any of their summer show to do well then they're delusional. I think for the time of year it premiered and it being the first time The CW is expanding to summer programming, I think they'll stick with it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not one to typically advocate for other networks picking up failing series but in te case of Cougar Town, I agree with Marc Berman here. It would be a good fit for TBS. Maybe not so much Comedy Central. In any case, I'm sad to know the show doesn't have much time left.
ReplyDeleteApparently EW.com's Inside TV column is reporting that LA Complex has earned the dubious honor of being the lowest rated in-season broadcast drama premiere of all time. I wonder if their number will pick up next week. I haven't much good said about the show.
