Metered Market Tuesday Ratings
CBS Wins; Modest Return for Glee on Fox

Tuesday 4/10/12
Metered Market Results

Household
Rating/Share
CBS 8.7/14
ABC 7.2/11
NBC 4.4/ 7
Fox 4.1/ 6
CW 0.8/ 1

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 4/12/11
Fox: +64, CW: +33, NBC: no change, ABC: - 5, CBS: -15

----------

-Winners:
NCIS (CBS), Dancing With the Stars (ABC), NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS), The Voice (NBC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
Cougar Town (ABC), Raising Hope (Fox), Ringer (CW), Fashion Star (NBC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS remains the dominant Tuesday overnight force with its combination of NCIS (11.0 rating/18 share - #1 for the evening), spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (#1: 8.6/13) and freshman drama Unforgettable, which dropped to second behind ABC’s Body of Proof with a 6.2/11. Comparably, Unforgettable, which has no chance at this point of returning on CBS next season, dropped by 24 percent from year-ago occupant The Good Wife (8.2/13 on 4/12/11). The Eye net might benefit if it moved The Good Wife, which has been questionable on Sunday, back into the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour next fall.

Over at Fox, Glee returned after a six week hiatus with a second-place 5.0/ 8 in the overnights at 8 p.m. One year earlier, Glee was an encore telecast and any type of comparison would not be valid. But compared to its overnight performance in the time period on April 19, 2011 (7.1/11), this was down by 30 percent. In other words, absence does not necessarily make the ratings grow stronger.

Glee led into freshman sitcom New Girl at a fourth-place 3.9/ 6 at 9 p.m., which is not the force it once was earlier in the season. At 9:30 p.m. was the return of sophomore Raising Hope, which dipped to a 2.7/ 4. Facing The Voice on NBC (not to mention NCIS: Los Angeles on CBS) was, no doubt, not beneficial for either comedy.

As a reminder, Glee, New Girl and Raising Hope have all been renewed for next season.

Moving to ABC, the departure of Sherri Shepherd on the live Dancing With the Stars results show resulted in a dominant 10.2/16 in the overnights at 9 p.m., which built by 183 percent from sluggish lead-in Cougar Town (#4: 3.6/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.). Although Dancing With the Stars bested NBC’s competing live The Voice Results Show (#3: 5.8/ 9) by 76 percent in the overnights, The Voice is expected to have an advantage among adults 18-49.

Earlier in the evening on ABC was expected-to-be renewed Last Man Standing at a third-place 4.6/ 7 at 8 p.m., which remains a respectable performer for the network. In season (or series) finale news, aforementioned crime solver Body of Proof concluded with a dominant 7.4/13 at 10 p.m., which was right on par with its year-ago overnight performance. Comparably, Body of Proof held a respectable 70 percent of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing With the Stars (10.5/16). While it does skew older, my prediction is ABC will grant Body of Proof a third season.

On NBC, a one-hour edition of veteran The Biggest Loser opened with a third-place 4.4/ 7 in the 8 p.m. hour, which was close to year-ago levels. Next was aforementioned The Voice (#3: 5.8/ 9), which built from the 8:30 p.m. portion of The Biggest Loser (4.5/ 7) by 29 percent, followed by ailing Fashion Star at a not so fashionable 3.1/ 5 at 10 p.m. Comparably, Fashion Star dipped from year-ago occupant Parenthood (3.6/ 6 on 4/12/11) by 14 percent, with retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of The Voice (5.9/ 9) of just 53 percent. That said, there is no reason to expect to see a second season of Fashion Star.

The CW capped off this second Tuesday in April with a repeat of 90210 (#5: 0.6/ 1 at 8 p.m.), followed by on-the-fence Ringer at a 1.0/ 2 at 9 p.m. (#5). Chances are Ringer will be kaput in the very near future.

  4. The Good Wife will not be moving back to Tuesday 10pm, CBS will air a new show behind NCIS:LA.

Ringer is dead, series finale next week I'm 99% certain.

Body of Proof is still a bubble show, can its strong finish make up for its poor ratings previously? I thill think its more likely to be cancelled than renewed but thats a pure guess.

Couger Town is pretty much dead. I dont think it has a chance in hell of coming back next season.

Unforgettable also dead, CBS has too many shows with better ratings and now a lot of space for new shows next season. Something has to go and Unforgettable is their lowest rated 10pm show Monday-Thursday.

  7. Nah Cougar Town can get renewed for a final season to score syndication rights. I think it will do beter if they give it a normal airing schedule starting in september. It's not doing that much worse than Last Man Standing in the 18-49 ratings and people say that one will def. be renewed.

  8.  I agree, if Cougar Town had a more decent schedule its numbers would be definitely higher! It should have remained after Modern Family, or at least on Wednesday's comedy block

  9. I don't want BOP to leave right now I want another season cause the show is still very good. It also got good numbers last night so hopefully it will be picked up.

  10. It is so unfair that Glee is not considered a loser since same time last year it was a rerun and no basis. The fact is Glee's ratings have declined and this episode is the 2nd lowest episode in Glee history tied with Acafellas.
