  6. Fringe ! Let's hope the show will confirm it's good rating bump of last week (1.2). I want a 1.3 rating and a press release announcing the season 5 renewal shortly after, is that too much to ask ?

But since I'm not an Observer and cannot travel through time and space, I technically cannot watch Fringe tonight.

If it were up to me, I'd watch the last two episodes of the first season of Antigone (6 episodes), on France 2. It's a copshow, announced as something different from the usual crop of that genre, and it sort of lives up to the expectation, it's a good show. They're surely not rewriting the rules of drama series, but I like it. The directing is very special, you either like it or you don't but after that you can't say The Shield or SouthLAnd have shaky cams, because in some action sequences it almost feels like Antigone has been filmed with a phone (but a good one and in a very artistic way). And the leads (Anne Le Nen, Bruno Todeschini, Claire Borotra) are great. In their core, the stories on Antigone are not groundbreaking (there's a bit of a serialized story within the season though), but it's free-access TV, you can't expect a copshow as ambitious and raw as Canal+'s Engrenages or Braquo, for instance.

But it's vacation time, I don't have dibs. I won't get into the details, but let's just say if I want to watch TV tonight I'll have to watch the season première of Koh-Lanta (the french Survivor) on TF1. I used to like that show but I got tired of it three years ago, so I don't think I'll bother watching.

No, I think I'll watch The Stars. It's a daily show from 9pm to 7am, and it's pretty good, kind of predictable but I like it, even if it feels like this show has been running forever. It airs on Sky.

Or if I don't, I'll watch a bunch of My Name is Earl episodes. I already have the complete DVD box set so I hope I'll like it. With the amazingly funny Raising Hope ending its second season in a few days, I think it's time for me to watch the other show created by Greg Garcia, I like that man's humour. The 4 seasons (96 episodes) of Earl will sustain me until Raising Hope returns next September for season 3 (cancellation is NOT an option).

And if I don't start MNIE, I might continue rewatching Arrested Development. I started, Wednesday, it's my third time (first time in fall 2008, second time in summer 2010… spring 2012 felt like the right period to watch the show again), but it's still as hilariously funny. I'm at episode 1.13. The Hermano thing is over, so now, if I remember correctly, I think the story moves on to Annyong. One linguistic misunderstanding follows another. Gob breaking out of jail, George Sr becoming religious, Tobias' never-nude condition, George-Michael's crush on Maeby… this show just never gets old, it gets better and better. The whole Hermano situation and the love triangle (love square, if you include latecomer Buster) with Maria was hilarious ("You’re a good guy, mon frère. That means 'brother' in French. I don’t know why I know that, I took four years of Spanish"). First time, second time, third time, whatever, watching Arrested Development is always a treat.

  33. If only the votes reflected the ratings = )

  34. They could, if only TV networks would realize the current ratings system is totally flawed. With cable TV and satellite TV being totally digital now versus analog, there should be a way to track what people are watching without violating privacy. Sure polling a set top box will invade privacy to certain extent, but the info can be stripped from the personal data before any polling company sees it. I know for a fact that Comcast does poll boxes on a weekly basis regardless of privacy. They just don't keep any info unless they can bill for it.

I'm not saying poll every single set top box all the time either. I'm just suggesting that they randomly poll a certain amount of set top boxes on a regular basis, and not the same ones all the time. Then they could report the numbers with the demographic info, ditch the names and personal info.
