I loved it! Wooden!Pinocchio freaked me out a lot. And taking a wooden boy out on a boat seemed like a recipe for disaster from the start. Also, nice job fucking the fairy tale world over for your son there, Geppetto.
Baby!Pinocchio was adorable with Little!Emma. I hate that he left, but he was a kid in a bad place. It's understandable.
Loved Henry going in on Regina like that.
And the end was so freaking adorable! Loved August/Pinocchio and Geppetto hanging out. It was so cute.
And see, David rejected Regina just like I thought he would! Do the people who overreacted regret their freaking out now?
Loved seeing how Emma got to "our world". I feel so bad for her - both Gipetto and Pinocchio/August sacrificed her happiness and well being for their own wants :( But the interaction between baby Emma and Pinocchio was so adorable.
August looks absolutely nothing like the child Pinocchio - that's annoying.
The Regina/David thing seemed so out of place in the episode - and so awkward.
Well why Emma is so adamant onto NOT believing now makes sense.
Her own magic fueled by her own denying clouds her from everything she should have seen and believed.
It might be obvious to us, the viewers, but she just does not want to see, thus everything clouds it from her. When she believes it all works, the hat, her own lie-detector power, magic, everything. When she goes back into denial, everything disappears.
Emma is the literal Schrodinger's Cat of the whole curse, magic and her own power. .
Also Blue Fairy. What is her play exactly?
In no way in hell will I believe that Blue Fairy just accidentally: - Incited Rumple into making the curse. - Made sure Geppeto is protected for the tree wardrobe building YEARS before the curse and then just happened to be there to save Pinocchio out of her good will, while we exactly know that all magic comes with a price.
without some kind of agenda.
I have no doubt that she has some good intentions in her mind, but hell, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. As far as I see, while Rumple does seem to be mastermind behind Regina and it all for the goals we have yet to know(like why he wants to break it), but…. Blue Fairy might be the mastermind behind Rumple.
Good to see that most of stuff went out the way we expected(the reason why Regina shatters her mirror, for example) although the fact that charming rejected her AND that August is still alive does NOT bode well for David's survival in the finale.
I am betting those certain people who overreacted will find something to overreact to in that scene. I expect them to start argue and whine that he was too polite to her or something.
I love it so far. I understand Emma, I dont know what people are hating her ( I'm an evil regal so.. Emma is not like my favorite but she is an awesome main character.), SHE IS AFRAID people! she wants only her song and bullshit if she just believes in that "fairy crap" from day to night.. come on! she has been living a harsh life, there was no room for fairy tales and now she feels impotent, she just cant have her kid ( that hurts me, I dont want Emma to take Henry away from Regina, im my poin of view, Henry is Regina's child but..), so she took a decision. She is being selfish and HUMAN.
I'm still trying to understand what the hell was these David/Regina scene. I mean, it didn't make sense, it didn't have a purpose. The worst of the epi.
Regina was trying to get back at Mary after she called her out at school. Plus, I weirdly think she has legitimate feelings for David. I don't know what that's about.
Trying to show that Regina wants to hurt Snow for daring to 'forgive' her and pretty much see right through Regina to the heart of her? That she hates herself? That she doesn't understand how to interact with men because of where she grew up?
Probably just the simplest explanation of ~she's evil. It is Once Upon a Time, after all.
Regina/David scene makes perfect sense. it continues to develop her as character as well as her twisted frailty.
She desperately wants to take away the love from Snow, to, literally, MAKE snow hate and despise her, to pay Snow back by placing her in exact same position Regina believes Snow placed her into.
Its similar how Emma behaves towards Regina in a way.
The David/Regina scene showcased her strange attraction she had for him through the show as well as shown the amount of desperation and emotional instability in Regina.
Excellent episode. Made me love August even more. Loved young Pinocchio/August interacting with baby Emma. I'm not angry at him for leaving her, he was only 7 years old, and that guy was a real jerk. The important thing is that he recognized that he should have been in Storybrook when she arrived (and it is also more likely she'd have been more willing to believe if he'd been around her all her life).
As for Emma, I can understand why she doesn't want to believe, but it's also annoying. If she wants Henry, she has to go all the way. Save everyone. Running away doesn't work. Apparently, after seeing the promo for next week, every time Emma tries to run away her car crashes. When she's not running, she can leave (like with August).
I loved the ending with August and Geppetto. I really hope Emma starts believing soon before it's too late for August.
Agreed. If Geppetto hadn't been so selfish then Emma could have grown up with her mother and perhaps not be as cynical and closed off as she is now. Pinocchio/August didn't help either with ditching Emma in that home. I do understand that he was in a bad spot but that was pretty heartbreaking with baby Emma just staring up at him all innocently as he decided to leave her.
Wow Emma. That's pretty crazy of her for 'kidnapping' Henry like that and leaving Storybrooke. Even though Henry is biologically her son, Regina adopted him (though not sure of the legalities with that since Rumple didn't seem to get him through legal means apparently) so he's her son. She could easily sue Emma or have a permanent restraining order against her or whatnot. Not a smart move girl especially after watching that promo.
Not sure how I feel about that last scene with August and Geppetto. I'm kinda annoyed that they seem to have gotten their happy ending after screwing everyone over in FTL. Then again, I'm kinda seeing a pattern with how this show wants to show the dark and imperfectness of humanity and that everyone makes stupid selfish mistakes.
It's amazing how my opinion of August has changed since he appeared in Storybrooke - I was really unsure of him for the longest time, but I think this episode really made me realize that I actually like him. The scene with Emma and Pinocchio was adorable, and I loved the moment with Geppetto at the end... it was also cool to see August/Pinocchio fulfilling the destiny that Geppetto kind of forced upon him.
After all the chatter about Regina's supposed seduction, the scene didn't really follow through - I guess I built it up wayyyy too much in my head, and then it lasted all of 10 seconds. It's interesting how this show is determined to make me like Emma less and less, though... I've never been her biggest fan, but this episode didn't help the situation.
agreed! if they are trying to make Emma unlikeable they're doing it just fine... if not they are screwed and need better writters hahaha i used to like Emma but why can't she just believe already!
I guess I can't begrudge her the little freak-out she had in the woods... she has had a lot of crap thrown at her, and to any normal person, this stuff would seem crazy... but even when you get past the fact that she refuses to believe she's super unlikable to me... it's frustrating when she's supposed to be a protagonist haha
I understand why Geppetto acted that way. Really, if you put yourself in his shoes, would you take the chance of your child dying? Most parents will do anything to protect their child.
As for Pinocchio, he was 7, and just followed his father's lead.
I agree Pinocchio was to small to realize what was happening,he couldn't held responsible,or even responsible for his fathers action...and i don't know one parent who would not want to save his child..
I definitely don't hate her - she's not that bad. I just seem to like a lot of people a lot more, which just strikes me as odd since I suppose I view her as the main protagonist.
I started the show being very cold towards Emma and she outright annoyed me in first episode.
But the more and more flaws of her we discover and the more we learn on how she thinks, the more I find myself liking her. Ever since I noticed Regina/Rumple/Emma parallels she became a lot moer interesting to me and since the Hat Trick she is pretty much one of my favorite characters in the show.
August on other hand....my opinion on him lessens every week and I certainly do not buy his story on where he was when Emma came to Storybrooke.
After this episode I'm starting to think you're completely right, Borednow. I don't think Regina wants to make Snow miserable, exactly, I think what she really wants is Snow to feel the same HATRED that Regina does. Misery is one thing, but hatred will tear your insides to shreds. It's a horrible, all-consuming feeling, and I think THAT'S what Regina wants Snow to feel now. And did anyone else notice she was on the verge of tears as she followed David out? Hard to say if it was because she genuinely wanted David or because she failed to get back at MM (maybe a little of both?) but interesting nonetheless. My heart really breaks for Regina (hail to the writers and Lana Parrilla for making such a vile character so loveable in her own twisted way). Also, can't be a coincidence that Regina lashed out AFTER she talked to MM. I think that, more than anything, made her go after David.
I've speculated about this before, and I think you're exactly right. Emma never really believe it was a 'superpower', she just believed she had amazing instincts that never failed. In Storybrooke, though, she had no logical reason to doubt Sydney, and the alternative was too crazy to believe, so she was in denial, and ignored her instincts. Just because she ignored her superpower doesn't mean it wasn't working, or maybe her denial and desperation to believe Sydney zapped her power altogether. Either way, I always knew we'd gain more insight into Emma's lie-detecting. Glad we got some clues this episode.
Totally agree. She FLIPPED OUT, and she's not used to sticking around one place or fighting for anything. When she couldn't get help from Gold, she turned to the only other person she thought could help, and he turned around and tried dumping even MORE responsibility on her. I think her reaction makes complete sense, no matter how dumb it seems. I mean, it IS dumb, which is the point: she's not thinking straight!!! And WOOT! glad I'm not the only one rooting for Regina, but really, with the heroes on this show being so inconsistent, is it any wonder so many of us root for the villains? (Doesn't hurt that Lana and Robert are the best actors on this show by a long shot)
One of major traits that make Emma Swan so relatable is her overall normalcy. She is a normal, realistic and flawed person thrown into all this crazy stuff. Someone who has made a LOT of mistakes in her life and who has been pushed around and hurt by cold reality and her own imperfections again and again.
She does not react as a “hero”. She reacts as a human and the forest scene showcases it perfectly.
She is scared, tired and in denial. She cares for Henry, but she just has so many insecurities to care about anything else, to have wider responsibility. Accept wider consequences of Power.
And indeed, how can she believe in things like Curse, Magic or Destiny if she can’t even believe in herself yet? Thats what makes her an interesting and unique protagonist.
I'm not sure what to think about Pinocchio leaving Emma like that. I could understand why he wanted to leave, but at the same time...I felt like he made up his mind too quickly. He didn't really think about the consequences or anything. Still, baby Emma and little Pinocchio were so cute!
Great episode, and next week's looks even better! Can't wait!
The eye thing may be a little off, but how many people really notice the color of someones eyes. Heck, you could even say he wears contacts that change the color. As for the hair, I have know many people who were bright redheads when they were young and now have jet black hair.
Plus he used to be a dang wooden puppet, who is to say what can and can not change on him.
Plus, in the adoption system, Emma was more likely to placed in a home. Since people tend to want babies instead of older children. They would have definitely been split up at some point. Leaving him behind to suffer alone. He couldn't give up his only chance to escape. I think the place was meant to be a lot worse than they actually showed.
I started having doubts about the Blue Fairy in 1x19. There's something about her that puts me off. The way she meddled with Nova and Grumpy and the fact that she is "Ghoul Dorm" an ancient power makes me wonder if she really is a "good" fairy. I think not.
Okay, now, I am beginning to think that The Blue Fairy is Keyser Söze. I always thought that Rumple was the puppet master but really he is just a pawn like everyone else. I am starting to see why Rumple hates fairies. Emma open your eyes and your heart for crying out loud. Pinocchio, thanks for effing up on yet another island. I wish Archie would have walked by where Geppetto and Pinocchio were working and all would have been right.
Man. I really hated this episode. I said last week, that I though August should have been Bae because there was more emotional punch in tying that character to Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold than having him be Pinocchio. I feel like they proved my concern to be well founded.
I never connected with the episode. Maybe if it hadn't been right up against the powerhouse that was last weeks ep. Maybe if we'd seen Gepetto in more than two episodes (his place in the Jiminy Cricket Ep was really just a walk on) I would have cared about this guy and the bargin he made. He was doing some hardcore negotiating... condemning Prince Charming to stay and suffer the spell...then condemning Emma to be raised an orphan. And you're going to force a 7 year old to be responsible, not only, for a new born baby but the fate of his world. Really? Rumpelstiltskin *created* the spell and I had more compassion for him, because I've had a chance to get to know the character and understand at least some of his motivation. I didn't have that opportunity with Gepetto. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.
The other problem was the quick and dirty 'why August left the orphanage' scene should have been the B-Story for an entire episode instead of the afterthought treatment we got. And pairing what is, in the overall arc story of the series, a really important episode with Regina making a pass at David just pulled down an already dreadful episode. This episode is officially my least favorite episode of the series thus far. Poor.
It was an ok episode. It's funny how the show has turned around for me. I started out liking Snow/Charming and Emma best and now the entire Charming clan is starting to get on my nerves. Snow/Mary Margaret and Henry are still ok, but Emma and David/Charming make me want to bang my head against a wall. They're so two-dimensional, predictable and I just can't relate to them anymore. Emma's personal history and her journey towards believing has so much potential on paper, but the way it's playing out is disappointing. They're the heroes, I want to root for them. But it needs more than the characters repeating the "good has to win" fairytale mantra for me to connect with them. I feel more connected to secondary characters like Ruby and Geppetto because they feel more human, more complex to me. The Pinocchio fairytale was well done. But I didn't care for Storybrooke.
I LOVE MM and Emma, in both worlds. I adore David for his honest, confused insecure innocence. he is a nice guy who just is VERY confused by everything and trying to grasp at what he feels is real - his connection to MM.
they all come off as very unique awesome and multi-layered characters.
I hate henry's guts tho. The most two dimensional character in the entire show and pretty much only used for plot-exposition.
Same here. I'm pretty much over all things Charming at this point. Mary Margaret has her moments (great scene between her and Regina this week) but the other three - Emma, Henry, David - I couldn't care less about. I LOVED that Gepetto got Pinocchio through the wardrobe. It was selfish and yet relatable because he loved his son so much. That's the kind of emotional conflict I love.
I really loved this one. The back story was SO good and it's nice to think that Emma doesn't have to be alone in this...
The confirmation that Storybrooke didn't "move forward" until Emma's 28th Birthday was an interesting aspect too, because it means for 28 years this town is like "Brigadoon" and everyone in it was in a state of animated suspension...really kind of neat, but also sad. It also makes me question Henry's existence, because how would he come to "be" in Storybrooke if Regina "raised" him, if he was born outside Storybrooke, which couldn't move or exist until Emma was 28? Is he really her son??? How did that happen? I hope in season two we might get some insight in Henry's past and how his role has come to be...
Despite her evil intent with David, I still feel bad for Regina, because what Henry told her was the truth..she is just making her own life more miserable by continuing to seek to hurt others. Lana Parilla has done this really great job at showing so many sides to Regina!
Anyways, it's so hard to believe that the season is almost over!
Ya I def think we see situations in which these parental figures have to make really hard decisions and ultimately, you're right that Geppetto's choice made everything much harder...
but still we have to ask why were there no more enchanted trees? -Does that have to do with Regina? --but really when I ask myself who of all the characters I have a lack of empathy for, it's the blue fairy....
I disagree. It's to emphasize Henry's point...Snow White will have her happy ending, good will win, because her loneliness and hate, is ultimately only going hurt her worse in the long run...
To see David NOT go further with Regina shows us that he isn't a male floozy that he IS a GOOD Man, that he may have been lost and is finding himself, but he is going to be accountable for his actions, and he is not going to intentionally hurt Mary Margaret any more than he already has.
It does seem that way...The one thing that is similar are their eyes (and his name kind of plays to A Wooden Boy)....But I still think there could always be more to any of the characters (like convergences), in conjunction to the curse and the manifestation those things have come to rearrange them in their present...it still may not be his whole story..
Also, thinking back to "Hat Trick", and these juxtapositions, I kind of feel like it's inevitable that in order for Emma to save everyone, she will have to go to a land with magic, whether Fairy Tale Land or Wonderland, -I have a feeling she has to more directly experience magic to really believe in it, and more fully come to know herself...If only there could be an episode title, "She's Doing Fine" and that she would have to do something before the sun sets....
Exactly...it's a contradiction to say that he was selfish for wanting to protect his child, and be expected to protect another's...and then not say Snow White wanting save her child isn't also selfish.
That's exactly what I was thinking last night after I posted. They'd have most likely been split up. Not only because of his age, also because they weren't even related.
It was an okay episode but I was hoping for something better.
- Almost all of Regina's seduction plot played out in sneak peeks released earlier in the week. It was disappointing that there wasn't much more to it. - Geppetto is a selfish, short-sighted asshat. - Great emotional scene between August and Emma. - Loved the Regina / Mary Margaret scene. (another completely spoiled in sneak peeks) Kindness always seems to hurt Regina more than anger. - August's attempt to convince Emma that the curse was real wasn't very convincing. I totally understand Emma's skepticism. - Kidnapping Henry? Really Emma? Stop being stupid. Doing something that moronic only makes sense if you actually believe in the curse, which you do not.
I get what you're saying about Emma, MM, and David being flawed. I only wish that Emma would finally start learning from her mistakes instead of repeating destructive patterns.
I'm totally on board with your suspicions of the Blue Fairy. What exactly were the "preparations" she was making with the other fairies for the upcoming curse?
I don't think the Blue Fairy is evil or anything but I'm starting to think that she's just as aware of the curse now as Gold and Regina are and I believe she's working her own angle in all of this.
It's a relief that, seeing how involved the Blue Fairy has become in all aspects of the show, OUAT didn't land Lady Gaga to play the Blue Fairy. It's better that they got an actual actress for the role.
Stupid, yes. I'm not sure if it's out of character though. Emma's whole M.O. is that she gets frustrated or angry and does something impulsive and/or stupid. This is just the latest in a long line of thoughtlessly rash decisions.
She can have some intentions that she views as perfectly good, but those intentions can be in no way good to the rest of the cast. Hell is paved with good intentions, after all.
She has serious responsibility issues and she regards herself in a VERY bad way. She has no self-respect. She does not believe in herself. In a sense she does not care about herself that much to WANT To be a better person beyond being better person for Henry.
She is someone who has been trashed and destroyed by real life, cold reality and her own insecurities and flaws that she just ...can't.
At the same time she has this very clear rage at those she views as a threat to her very first bonds since, well, ever.
She, just like Regina, grew up in a VERY dysfunctional way(minus the road to revenge). And she, just like regina, keeps lashing out at those who try to take away something that she counts as hers, with that rage making her be very , for the lack of better word, blind and self-destructive.
combined that with her insecurities and lack of belief in self and you have a character with a very few equals on tv.
You may be right. In the pilot she was quite resourceful. She was in control and one step ahead of the guy she was going to arrest. Of course, it was in her job line, her private life wasn't so bright. I guess that first character impression is stuck in my head.
Expexting the Fandom to not overreact and freaking out is like expecting a polar bear to choose vegetables over a juicy seal steak. It's just unnatural! ;-D
I wouldn't say she doesn't want to. I think the problem is that she wasn't raised with any of the social skills that would allow her to tackle her personal issues in a constructive way. In short, it may be much more difficult for her emotionally to better herself than most people.
I'm with you on that. it seems to me that the ptb have her character make some dumb moves for the sake of some plot twist. IMO that's not wise writing. Emma is impulsive and emotionally crippled, but she isn't stupid.
First, I was never really involved in the Pinocchio storyline. I really wanted to like Geppetto, but then he sent his kid away with the responsibility of understanding a new land, growing up on his own, taking care of a baby, and convincing the "savior" to fix the curse? Where was the sense? I could almost have gotten behind it if he had taken both spots for himself and Pinocchio, but just sending Pinocchio off like that doomed both of them and FTL. Pinocchio's a fraking 7-year-old and most of that life he spent as a puppet.
Second, Emma is really frustrating. Yes, I wish that August had had a better pitch. What exactly was a random tree supposed to demonstrate? Even if he was the kid who found her, how does that prove he's Pinocchio? It was a nice twist that she couldn't see the wooden leg. It gave her something prop up her disbelief other than stubbornness. But the I can't take the burden of helping people, when she started out so in control and righteous with the first bail jumper guy, felt like a let down. I'd like her to have a better plan. And yeah, kidnapping Henry was decidedly not it. I'd like for there to be a clear stumbling block to her believing, rather than just her not wanting to.
Third, I don't like the weak, turn the other cheek, don't sink to their level good when Regina keeps winning and I feel like they need to take action. But once she's lost, and MM was all you are a sad little woman, I was all cheering in my living room. And good for David. He was bland sappy goodness, but at least he was making the right decisions. I didn't feel like the whole scenario added that much, it felt disjointed with the August story, like wearing blue and black together. IDK.
Charming would be more likeable if he could find the backbone he seems to have lost ;-) MM and Emma, I like them both, especially Emma. And Henry, I loved that smart cheeky kid from the start.
Ok from one Evil Regal to another, seriously what is Regina's deal with David? All I got from that that near kiss scene and the blinking back tears part is that she was genuinely upset when he rejected her. And if she was only trying to get back at MM woudn't she be angry her plan didn't work rather than trying to fight back tears. I am really confused on this one. I really thought all my David/Regina feels were gonna be quashed in this episode. Now I can't help but feel there is still something with Regina and I am intrigued to find out if it's just my imagination or not and she has some genuine affection for him.
Either way I wasn't overly impressed with this episode although Lana continues to shine in all her scenes.
Ugh Emma seriously kidnapping- are you being serious?
Didn't really care for the pinochio story but it might have something to do with August's character. I really can't warm to him at all.
Overall not my favourite but the promo for next weeks looks amazing.
When it comes to Regina and David I think it's too early to call whether she had genuine feelings for him. From the looks of things we're going to get some answers next episode, but until then I think there's two ways to interpret her actions: 1) She genuinely likes him and is simply upset that he rejected her for that reason alone, and she broke the mirror because she was mad at her failure and mad that she can't win his affection the way Snow/MM has. 2) She doesn't care about David (other than maybe a soft spot for him, cause I definitely think her hatred is all for Snow and not David/James), but she desperately wants MM to hate her. She wants MM/Snow to feel the depth of Regina's hatred. I TOTALLY understand this and hope this is where the writers/actress are headed, because it's so deliciously complex. I've been there (anger issues when I was younger, lol), it's gut-wrenching to feel hatred for someone, to be constantly eaten by it, and know that they're not suffering even a fraction of what you're suffering. Of course, I've never felt the kind of hatred Regina has, so I can only imagine. She was tearing up because she is in pain from all the hatred she's carrying, and her failure to seduce David means a failure to give MM a reason to hate her. She couldn't do it by framing her for murder, and now she can't even do it by sleeping with her boyfriend/whatever-you-wanna-call-him...hence breaking the mirror. Clearly I'm leaning towards reason 2, lol. I think I'll be disappointed if it's as simple as Regina having a crush on David/James/Charming :( Either way, though, Evil love to mama Regal, cause she kicks a** ;)
Snow White wanting to save her child wasn't also selfish because her child was prophesied to save them all if she lived, saving the realm and everyone in it was baked into it also.
But to expect EVERYONE else to have "blind faith" for some other child nobody knows is a little extreme...IMO all the characters have been lead down paths where they are not given easy choices, and have been manipulated and pressed for time to make good decisions...
That could be true too...I personally think the Blue Fairy lied a bit, because I think she didn't understand the effects of the curse would have, that still embodies some magic...
But also it only makes sense that the Mad Hater's hat with all portals is important if Emma can fix it, and it needs fixed because "somebody" needs to travel to another land...
I actually enjoyed the episode. Gepetto only did what any parent would have done. He wanted to save his son from becoming a wooden boy again. What's wrong with that? Unfortunately, Pinocchio was a scared, little boy who had been separated from his father, pushed into this scary new place with an enormous task of looking after a baby that happens to be the Saviour for their entire world! No wonder he ran off! Yes, Emma refuses to believe, but thinking about it, would any of us suddenly believe in all that stuff about curses and fairytale characters walking about, not aging for the last 28 years??? I know I wouldn't! It's ok for the viewers to get frustrated, we get to see the other side, Emma's character has not seen any of it. Of course, I hope the writers don't drag it out, like in the case of Jack Shephard in Lost. But looking at the next week's promos it looks like the evidence will finally be so obvious that Emma will start to believe.
There were no examples of people not believing the blue fairy. If Gepetto had sent Pinocchio through because he didn't believe/didn't trust that would have been another story. But that aspect wasn't presented. Both Blue Fairy and Rumple said Emma was the one who would break the curse, so if they agree on something it is probably true. xD I'm just saying everyone was shown to be in agreement that Emma had to go through, that's why sending her wasn't selfish on Snow's part. There wasn't a debate over who's kid was more worthy, it was understood that the savior had to be saved.
But how did it help the plot? It didn't. Instead of spending time throwing in crap from Lost they could have spent more time making this not such a throwaway episode.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Ready for sh*t to hit the fan in the last two eps, roll on next Sunday night!!
ReplyDeleteI loved it! Wooden!Pinocchio freaked me out a lot. And taking a wooden boy out on a boat seemed like a recipe for disaster from the start. Also, nice job fucking the fairy tale world over for your son there, Geppetto.
ReplyDeleteBaby!Pinocchio was adorable with Little!Emma.
Great episode!
Awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing how Emma got to "our world".
It was pretty good. Geppetto was awesome.
ReplyDeleteI like Emma less and less each episode, and this episode certainly did her no favors.
Agree 100% with you!
ReplyDeleteWell why Emma is so adamant onto NOT believing now makes sense.
ReplyDeleteHer own magic fueled by her own denying clouds her from everything she should have seen and believed.
In no way in hell will I believe that Blue Fairy just accidentally:
- Incited Rumple into making the curse.
- Made sure Geppeto is protected for the tree wardrobe building YEARS before the curse and then just happened to be there to save Pinocchio out of her good will, while we exactly know that all magic comes with a price.

Good to see that most of stuff went out the way we expected(the reason why Regina shatters her mirror, for example) although the fact that charming rejected her AND that August is still alive does NOT bode well for David's survival in the finale.
Loved it. Pinocchio/August is my favorite new character. I liked the episode way more than last weeks.
ReplyDeleteI've always stuck up for Emma....but she annoyed me in this episode. You can't just steal the kid and leave town. Ugh.
I knew David would refuse!
ReplyDeleteI am betting those certain people who overreacted will find something to overreact to in that scene. I expect them to start argue and whine that he was too polite to her or something.
ReplyDeleteI love it so far.
ReplyDeleteMostly boring but jeeeeeez, Emma is such a horrible protagonist. I hope they have her recognize that she's pretty amoral.
ReplyDeleteInteresting thought on Emma's lie detector not working because of her refusal to believe.
ReplyDeleteThey needed to have David in the episode? Give Regina another scene? It had no point in the episode.
ReplyDeleteLOL I know!
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to understand what the hell was these David/Regina scene. I mean, it didn't make sense, it didn't have a purpose. The worst of the epi.
ReplyDeletethis scene, I mean
ReplyDeleteYeah, it bothered me too that young Pinocchio and August don't look similar at all.
ReplyDeleteLOL..5,4,3,2,1,they are thinking of what to say!
ReplyDeleteRegina was trying to get back at Mary after she called her out at school. Plus, I weirdly think she has legitimate feelings for David. I don't know what that's about.
ReplyDeleteit didn't make sense to me either... , the episode was really good , but i didn't see the point of the scene "/
ReplyDeleteTrying to show that Regina wants to hurt Snow for daring to 'forgive' her and pretty much see right through Regina to the heart of her? That she hates herself? That she doesn't understand how to interact with men because of where she grew up?
ReplyDeleteProbably just the simplest explanation of ~she's evil. It is Once Upon a Time, after all.
Agree
ReplyDeleteWell, making Regina falling in love with David isnt a great plot too lol
ReplyDeleteIt seems the David/Regina scene was completely filler
after 20 episodes, David character keep being boring and insignificant
ReplyDeleteRegina/David scene makes perfect sense. it continues to develop her as character as well as her twisted frailty.
ReplyDeleteShe desperately wants to take away the love from Snow, to, literally, MAKE snow hate and despise her, to pay Snow back by placing her in exact same position Regina believes Snow placed her into.
ReplyDeleteAs for Emma, I can understand why she doesn't want to believe, but it's also annoying.
ReplyDeleteWow Emma.
ReplyDeleteAfter all the chatter about Regina's supposed seduction, the scene didn't really follow through - I guess I built it up wayyyy too much in my head, and then it lasted all of 10 seconds.
It's interesting how this show is determined to make me like Emma less and less, though... I've never been her biggest fan, but this episode didn't help the situation.
agreed! if they are trying to make Emma unlikeable they're doing it just fine... if not they are screwed and need better writters hahaha
ReplyDeletei used to like Emma but why can't she just believe already!
ReplyDeleteI understand why Geppetto acted that way. Really, if you put yourself in his shoes, would you take the chance of your child dying? Most parents will do anything to protect their child.
ReplyDeleteAs for Pinocchio, he was 7, and just followed his father's lead.
She annoys me sometimes, but I don't hate her.
ReplyDeleteI agree Pinocchio was to small to realize what was happening,he couldn't held responsible,or even responsible for his fathers action...and i don't know one parent who would not want to save his child..
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't hate her - she's not that bad. I just seem to like a lot of people a lot more, which just strikes me as odd since I suppose I view her as the main protagonist.
ReplyDeleteIts opposite for me.
ReplyDeleteI started the show being very cold towards Emma and she outright annoyed me in first episode.
That bothered me so much. A kid with red hair and brown eyes grows up to have brown hair and blue eyes. What were they thinking?
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I know is that I enjoyed seeing that Oceanic Airlines plane sooo much
ReplyDeleteAfter this episode I'm starting to think you're completely right, Borednow.
ReplyDeleteI've speculated about this before, and I think you're exactly right.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree.
ReplyDeleteAnd WOOT! glad I'm not the only one rooting for Regina, but really, with the heroes on this show being so inconsistent, is it any wonder so many of us root for the villains? (Doesn't hurt that Lana and Robert are the best actors on this show by a long shot)
Where August/ Pinocchio failed maybe Henry can succeed?
ReplyDeleteI find the whole Emma hate VERY unfounded.
ReplyDeleteOne of major traits that make Emma Swan so relatable is her overall normalcy. She is a normal, realistic and flawed
person thrown into all this crazy stuff. Someone who has made a LOT of
mistakes in her life and who has been pushed around and hurt by cold
reality and her own imperfections again and again.
She does not react as a “hero”. She reacts as a human and the forest scene showcases it perfectly.
She is scared, tired and in denial. She cares for Henry, but she just
has so many insecurities to care about anything else, to have wider
responsibility. Accept wider consequences of Power.
And indeed, how can she believe in things like Curse, Magic or Destiny if she can’t even believe in herself yet? Thats what makes her an interesting and unique protagonist.
OMG! That ending! Shit is gonna go down next week!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what to think about Pinocchio leaving Emma like that. I could understand why he wanted to leave, but at the same time...I felt like he made up his mind too quickly. He didn't really think about the consequences or anything. Still, baby Emma and little Pinocchio were so cute!
ReplyDeleteGreat episode, and next week's looks even better! Can't wait!
Haha my thoughts exactly. It wasn't the best casting there.
ReplyDeleteHe was 7 years old. Their minds move quickly.
ReplyDeleteGrrr. Selfish Gepetto is why Emma grew up in the system and has responsibility issues and doesn't believe.
ReplyDeleteYeah, he was selfish, but what parent who loves their child would take the chance of them dying?
ReplyDeleteThe eye thing may be a little off, but how many people really notice the color of someones eyes. Heck, you could even say he wears contacts that change the color.
ReplyDeleteAs for the hair, I have know many people who were bright redheads when they were young and now have jet black hair.
Plus he used to be a dang wooden puppet, who is to say what can and can not change on him.
Plus, in the adoption system, Emma was more likely to placed in a home.
ReplyDeleteSince people tend to want babies instead of older children.
ReplyDeleteOkay, now, I am beginning to think that The Blue Fairy is Keyser Söze. I always thought that Rumple was the puppet master but really he is just a pawn like everyone else.
ReplyDeleteI am starting to see why Rumple hates fairies.
ReplyDeleteI never connected with the episode.
Poor.
This. Their scene was a non-sense.
ReplyDeleteIt was an ok episode.
ReplyDeleteI am betting that the "little girl" who told Baelfire about the fairy was the fairy herself.
ReplyDeleteHm, strange, for me its different.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE MM and Emma, in both worlds.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED that Gepetto got Pinocchio through the wardrobe. It was selfish and yet relatable because he loved his son so much. That's the kind of emotional conflict I love.
I really loved this one. The back story was SO good and it's nice to think that Emma doesn't have to be alone in this...
ReplyDeleteThe confirmation that Storybrooke didn't "move forward" until Emma's 28th Birthday was an interesting aspect too, because it means for 28 years this town is like "Brigadoon" and everyone in it was in a state of animated suspension...really kind of neat, but also sad.
ReplyDeletebut still we have to ask why were there no more enchanted trees? -Does that have to do with Regina? --but really when I ask myself who of all the characters I have a lack of empathy for, it's the blue fairy....
I disagree. It's to emphasize Henry's point...Snow White will have her happy ending, good will win, because her loneliness and hate, is ultimately only going hurt her worse in the long run...
ReplyDeleteTo see David NOT go further with Regina shows us that he isn't a male floozy that he IS a GOOD Man, that he may have been lost and is finding himself, but he is going to be accountable for his actions, and he is not going to intentionally hurt Mary Margaret any more than he already has.
ReplyDeleteI kind of think she could be the real villain of the piece!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many fun nods to LOST and FRINGE! I always love seeing those things!
ReplyDeleteadditional thoughts...
ReplyDeleteAlso, thinking back to "Hat Trick", and these juxtapositions, I kind of feel like it's inevitable that in order for Emma to save everyone, she will have to go to a land with magic, whether Fairy Tale Land or Wonderland, -I have a feeling she has to more directly experience magic to really believe in it, and more fully come to know herself...If only there could be an episode title, "She's Doing Fine" and that she would have to do something before the sun sets....
Exactly...it's a contradiction to say that he was selfish for wanting to protect his child, and be expected to protect another's...and then not say Snow White wanting save her child isn't also selfish.
ReplyDeleteYeah I don't like the blue fairy. I think it has to do with what she said/did in Grumpy's episode.
ReplyDeleteTrue.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I was thinking last night after I posted. They'd have most likely been split up. Not only because of his age, also because they weren't even related.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy for me to understand Gepetto: He'd do anything for his son.
ReplyDeleteIt was an okay episode but I was hoping for something better.
ReplyDelete- Almost all of Regina's seduction plot played out in sneak peeks released earlier in the week.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally on board with your suspicions of the Blue Fairy. What exactly were the "preparations" she was making with the other fairies for the upcoming curse?
ReplyDeleteI don't think the Blue Fairy is evil or anything but I'm starting to think that she's just as aware of the curse now as Gold and Regina are and I believe she's working her own angle in all of this.
It's a relief that, seeing how involved the Blue Fairy has become in all aspects of the show, OUAT didn't land Lady Gaga to play the Blue Fairy. It's better that they got an actual actress for the role.
Okay, so apparently quite a few people would risk their child's life and let someone else take his place to go to a land of safety. Why???
ReplyDeleteI think every parent in the world would make the same choice than Gepetto.
ReplyDeleteAgree, kidnapping Henry is quite stupid and IMO, out of character.
Stupid, yes. I'm not sure if it's out of character though. Emma's whole M.O. is that she gets frustrated or angry and does something impulsive and/or stupid. This is just the latest in a long line of thoughtlessly rash decisions.
ReplyDeleteOne does not need to be EVIL to be a villain tho.
ReplyDeleteShe can have some intentions that she views as perfectly good, but those intentions can be in no way good to the rest of the cast. Hell is paved with good intentions, after all.
But thats what I find so unique about her!
ReplyDeleteShe does not WANT TO.
ReplyDeleteIn the pilot she was quite resourceful. She was
in control and one step ahead of the guy she was going to arrest. Of
course, it was in her job line, her private life wasn't so bright.
I guess that first character impression is stuck in my head.
Expexting the Fandom to not overreact and freaking out is like expecting a polar bear to choose vegetables over a juicy seal steak.
ReplyDeleteIt's just unnatural!
;-D
I wouldn't say she doesn't want to. I think the problem is that she wasn't raised with any of the social skills that would allow her to tackle her personal issues in a constructive way. In short, it may be much more difficult for her emotionally to better herself than most people.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'd prefer it if they would have continue to write Emma like they did at the beginning of the series.
ReplyDeleteOur world isn't without magic anymore. Pinocchio is turning to wood, the Mad Hatter went through the hat...I think Emma brings the magic out.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on that.
ReplyDeleteit seems to me that the ptb have her character make some dumb moves for the sake of some plot twist.
ReplyDeleteSecond, Emma is really frustrating.
IDK.
Charming would be more likeable if he could find the backbone he seems to have lost ;-)
ReplyDeleteMM and Emma, I like them both, especially Emma.
ReplyDeleteEither way I wasn't overly impressed with this episode although Lana continues to shine in all her scenes.
From the looks of things we're going to get some answers next episode, but until then I think there's two ways to interpret her actions:
ReplyDelete1) She genuinely likes him and is simply upset that he rejected her for that reason alone, and she broke the mirror because she was mad at her failure and mad that she can't win his affection the way Snow/MM has.
I think I'll be disappointed if it's as simple as Regina having a crush on David/James/Charming :(
Either way, though, Evil love to mama Regal, cause she kicks a** ;)
Snow White wanting to save her child wasn't also selfish because her child was prophesied to save them all if she lived, saving the realm and everyone in it was baked into it also.
ReplyDeleteOh right fair enough. Thanks it was really bothering me to know. Yeah we should get more insight next week.
ReplyDeleteBut to expect EVERYONE else to have "blind faith" for some other child nobody knows is a little extreme...IMO all the characters have been lead down paths where they are not given easy choices, and have been manipulated and pressed for time to make good decisions...
ReplyDeleteThat could be true too...I personally think the Blue Fairy lied a bit, because I think she didn't understand the effects of the curse would have, that still embodies some magic...
ReplyDeleteBut also it only makes sense that the Mad Hater's hat with all portals is important if Emma can fix it, and it needs fixed because "somebody" needs to travel to another land...
ReplyDeleteYes, Emma refuses to believe, but thinking about it, would any of us suddenly believe in all that stuff about curses and fairytale characters walking about, not aging for the last 28 years??? I know I wouldn't! It's ok for the viewers to get frustrated, we get to see the other side, Emma's character has not seen any of it. Of course, I hope the writers don't drag it out, like in the case of Jack Shephard in Lost. But looking at the next week's promos it looks like the evidence will finally be so obvious that Emma will start to believe.
Great episode, although my favourite thing about it was the Oceanic Airlines plane!
ReplyDeleteAmazing episode! So many great and touching scenes! All the David scenes seemed weird and unrelevant, but that's forgiven.
ReplyDeleteThere were no examples of people not believing the blue fairy.
ReplyDeleteBut how did it help the plot? It didn't. Instead of spending time throwing in crap from Lost they could have spent more time making this not such a throwaway episode.
ReplyDeleteIt was a awesome episode. what must trigger emma to believe?
ReplyDelete
