Alicia is standing by Peter, I loved the secondary theme of the mistakes of the Crime Lab forcing a new trial. Then Jackie and the house with her having or faking a stroke?
Alicia and Peter may not be together, but they've mended fences. Eli and Vanessa were on the way to mending fences, until he was forced into a decision to drop his work on her campaign. It's either ex-wife or Peter, and he chooses Peter. Matthew Perry was wasting time doing comedy when he's so good at drama. He's compelling in his role as Mike, the devious politician. Or is that redundant? But who's more devious than Jackie, faking a stroke?
I like how this episode took Alicia full circle from the shell-shocked Good Wife, posing for the cameras to save face while raging internally to the steely, determined Good Wife, embracing the role on her own terms and putting on the show she knows so well for her own reasons. Good stuff.
Almost better are her expressions playing off the sociopaths she's surrounded with. I almost died watching her try to process Mike's psychosis, lying so effortlessly and convincingly in his office. And her scene with Jackie in the hospital was pitch perfect.
Speaking of, I'm loving Matthew Perry right now. How delightfully gross is Mike? So many scenes to choose from, but I think my favorite moment with him this episode was in the elevator with Peter. In between casually delivered threats he tells some folks waiting on the elevator to take the next one in such a chipper, upbeat fashion and then carries on without missing a beat. This guy is a friggin' lunatic - I love it!
One of my favorite of the series tbh. Outstanding and awesome. All the manipulation. From every direction. And goddamn Matthew Perry. That scene with Alicia had my shaking my head. So devilish. And Jackie too. WOW.
I hate the fact that she is standing by Peters side when she really does not love him anymore. She needs to follow her heart and it is not with him. I really do not like the turn that this show has taken and it has made Alicia take two steps back. Not happy with her campaigning for Peter and probably living in their old house together which really is really ridiculous.
I thought Alicia was standing by Peter's side for her own reasons - one's that have nothing to do with what's in her heart. (The idea of Alicia Florrick following her heart, by the way, is just this side of ludicrous. Have you MET the woman?) I don't read Alicia's actions in this episode as taking any steps backward; rather, I think she took a leap forward. We may see her in the same position as she was in the pilot, standing by her husband in public, but what's going on with her internally is vastly different and, in my opinion, for the better.
Instead of being played by the political game she's in whether she likes it or not, she's tossed her hat into the ring to become an active participant. This is not an Alicia out of control and trying to stay afloat like in the first season. This is an Alicia who is very much in control of her own narrative, and ready to play. That's progress.
Mike Kresteva is the worlds greatest sleaze bag, and Matthew Perry is wonderful in the role. The whole time I was torn between yelling at how despicable the guy is to being amazed by Matt's pitch perfect performance. I swear if he does not get nominated for an Emmy this season, and wins.... there will be no justice!
Jackie is just as horrible IMO. ON a compeltelly different legue but on the same level none the less.
Amazed by the episode as a whole. All the storylines were just as interesting. Though it's not a difficult achievement for the show ;D
I don't think Jackie faked the stroke, but I do think that amist getting a stroke she found an opening and will use it to it's full effect. Which IMO is way worse...
Jackie knows her son, and she knows how to manipulate him. But Peter is also getting wise to his mother. Anyway, it certainly wasn't a BAD stroke, as it doesn't seem there's any mention of it this coming week.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Welcome back, show.

VOTE: Awesome!
I literally cried with laughter when Jackie said "I forgive you" to Alicia. XD
ReplyDeleteThere is not one thing you said that I disagree with!

ReplyDeleteReally? I wanted to smack her. That happens often.
ReplyDeleteI wanna smack her most of the time, too. But this time, the absurdity of the situation actually made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteOh I do not disagree with you on, any of that.
ReplyDeleteBut I do think that the orginal stroke, was quite real, even if it wasn't severe.
Heh, thanks! *fist-bumps*
ReplyDelete... or should that be one of those 90s "low fives" of shared understanding...
Quite true. They wouldn't have admitted her if she hadn't had a stroke. I found this interview with Mary Beth Peil that's very interesting.

Did I mention I thought Jackie was faking it?
