TNT's all-new series Major Crimes has started production in Los Angeles. Pictured from left to write: Executive producers Michael M. Robin and James Duff and stars Mary McDonnell and Kearran Giovanni.

Major Crimes is slated to premiere Monday, Aug. 13, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), immediately following The Closer's series finale. The show will then move to its regular Monday 9 p.m. (ET/PT) timeslot.

Picking up where The Closer leaves off, Major Crimes will center on what it takes to secure an airtight conviction. The show will explore how the police and prosecutors work together to build a solid case that will result in a suspect confessing, signing a plea agreement, or being found guilty in a court of law.

TNT has ordered 10 episodes for the first season of Major Crimes, which is being produced by The Shephard/Robin Company in association with Warner Bros. Television. The Closer‘s James Duff, Greer Shephard and Michael M. Robin serve as executive producers on the new series.

Prior to the launch of Major Crimes, The Closer will wrap up its seven-season run with six final episodes. Since premiering in June 2005, The Closer has consistently placed among the most-watched shows on cable. It is the only series in basic cable history to rank #1 for five consecutive years.

  1. I am actually very excited about this spin-off. All the goodness of The Closer only shy of Brenda Leigh.

  3.  They still have Flynn and Provenza so they're good to go.  I'd still watch the spinoff if it was just those two idiots on it.  Hell, if that was the case I'd be looking forward to it even more.

  4. For a long time, Flynn and Provenza were my favorites on the show. I've come to add Tao to the list as well. But really, I like the entire cast as a whole. Great camaraderie. I will surely miss Brenda Leigh though. I'm looking forward to this spin-off and hope that it lives up to expectations.

  5. I think I'm really going to miss Brenda Leigh. I remember really rooting for her in the first season of The Closer. I hope that show ends on a good note for the character. I am so hoping that Brenda Leigh would be the next Chief of Police.

  6. Yeah, promote her out to a higher role that would keep her from the show but at least allow the writers to show her influence in other ways. :)

  7. Yes! That is what I am thinking. It would be the perfect "ending" for Brenda's character imo. She'd be near her husband Fritz, and she would rarely/if ever be on the show anymore (because they never show the Chief of Police, assuming they're too busy), etc. So many good things could come from this. I come up with these ideas so often, it's a wonder why I never write fanfic. ;)
