How I Met Your Mother - Season 7 - Carter Bays interview

This week’s episode of How I Met Your Mother featured a pretty unforgettable smile-inducing kicker. After Ted found himself bemoaning his romantic setbacks and lack of personal progress, a look into the not-so-distant future revealed he had a daughter. Tear up? Join the club. But would you have guessed that the moment wasn’t even part of the greater plan for the season?

“We had a week of treading water, to be honest,” says co-creator/executive producer Carter Bays. “We have the arc of the season going, but this was one week where there wasn’t one, specific big event happening. We always get nervous about those kinds of episodes because you want to know that the story is moving forward.” So, he says, they took a “step back,” and decided to put a little perspective on the overall story of the series. “We were really telling the story that a father probably should tell his kids because it was only 22 minutes as opposed to seven seasons,” he jokes.

  1. Barney hiding his hand was extremely noticeable. Definitely not natural.

And let me gag at Barney being in love with Quinn. I don't buy that. He's just extremely desperate because Robin hurt him and he's trying his best to move on. I don't think the Barney/Quinn relationship is going to last very long.

And I hope Ted and Robin finally clear the air. It's been a few months. They need to talk.

  2. I think i speak for alot of people when i say that I'm gonna be very angry if Robin isn't Barney's bride. I'm not buying Barney/Quinn at all and Ted/Robin's tedious. Why would the producers show the Barney/Robin relationship for over 3 seasons now and have it not matter anything at the end?

  3. I don't buy Robin + Barney thing. I think he would be happier with Quinn or even Nora.

  5.  Agreed, Robin broke Barney's heart and doesn't even deserve him.

  6. Please, Barney is not in love with Quinn - he using her as a distraction from Robin.
Quinn is beyond annoying - there is no way he'll end up with her.

  7. I'm glad they included that bit with Ted's daughter - as much as I love Barney, I feel like a huge part of the show has been about his personal growth lately.  It's great, don't get me wrong.  But I felt like we lost sight of the main purpose of the show.  That being said, Ted was getting a little whiny anyway, so maybe it was a good thing they deviated hahaha

  9. I agree with Barbar and smallville944, but I have a sick feeling in my stomach that it's going to be Robin
