This is fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteGreat news!
ReplyDeleteNo surprise here, but this is still great news!
ReplyDeletethe question is how many episodes? and will it be half of book 3 or all of it
ReplyDeleteNot a surprise but nice to have confirmation.
ReplyDeleteGreat news. It's the show I'm looking forward the most every sunday. So epic !
ReplyDeleteThey have spoken before about ending S3 at the SPOILER ALERT RW scene which makes sense and would be one hell of a cliffhanger
ReplyDeleteSo we all expected a S3 and S4 to be announced by reading some other sites it seems that contracts were too complicated for that.
ReplyDeleteAccording to George R.R. Martin, the 3rd season should consist more than 10 episodes, otherwise a lot of storylines, characters etc will be written out due to enormous size of the 3rd book.
ReplyDeleteI think they mentioned before that both Seasons 3 and 4 will only consist in a Storm Of Swords
ReplyDeleteshiny
ReplyDeleteWhile it would be a great cliffhanger, I think that it is abou 2/3 of the way through the 3rd book, so it might be too far in.
ReplyDeleteWas expecting this for while
ReplyDeleteTotally expected it...but still...Great news!!!!
ReplyDeleteI sure hope so.
ReplyDeleteCompletely expected and still fabulous and exciting news!
ReplyDeleteAt first I was hoping for them to get a greenlight for Season 3 and Season 4 and to film them back to back like was rumored. After thinking about it a bit more I'm actually happy they only got a Season 3 renewal. This way we get 2 full off-seasons of casting news and filming news etc...
Looking forward to see how they split the book up
what aspects of Book 2 make it into Season 3... The Riverlands? Which House Tully members make appearances? Do a certain green tinged pair of siblings arrive? Will Ramsay and Reek show themselves? So many questions...
I think the one thing we can be sure of is that the obvious cliffhanger is RW. The rest will be fun to see play out!
True but they seem to be quite flexible with the timeline, I think some book three things happen this season so they could make it work.
ReplyDeleteFrom what D&D said last year in interviews, every season of Game of Thrones will be 10 episodes. If I recall HBO made ti clear that was their desire, but said that D&D do not need to make one book = one season. So they can make Book 3 into 2 seasons for example.... or use 2/3s of the book for Season 3 and then bring material from Books 4 or 5 into Season 4etc...
ReplyDeleteGreat news!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis news, although expected, is still beautiful music to my ears!!! :D eyes technically but yeh. Awesome news.
ReplyDeleteI think Season 3 will have some of Book 2 pushed back into it and Season 4 might have some of Books 4 and 5. Just what they need to pad out certain characters season arcs...
ReplyDeleteI have not read anything about it honestly, but with The Reeds not being cast Reek seemingly missing from this season, none of the Tullys being cast for Season 2. Some of that could go into Season 3 possibly... I guess it all depends on what D&D decide to edit out of the books.
Though I think you're right and Season 3 and 4 will consist mostly of Storm of Swords.
Hell to the yeah!
ReplyDeleteNo surprise.
ReplyDeleteAnd YAAY!
No surprise here;) Congratulations to the cast&crew! Great news!
ReplyDeleteWhaaat!? I'm shocked. SHOCKED I tells ya.
ReplyDeleteI remember last year, when a second season was officially approved, and a few days later someone of the creators said that in fact, HBO had renewed GoT after episode 1 for three whole seasons already. So how is this news? =)
ReplyDeleteI know we're only 2 episodes in season 2, but I so cannot wait for season 3! A Storm of Swords is pure BRILLIANCE.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that they come to their senses and cast the Reeds and
ReplyDeletesome Tullys for season 3. Ideally, the Queen of Thorns as well, after all she played a part in a certain end of a certain character... My God, the book is so huge! I don't even
remember it that well anymore!
A Storm of Swords was actually published in two parts in the UK, as well as in some translations, including the Polish one I read.
*SPOILER*

For example, the first part ends with Arya being kidnapped by the Hound. I think it would make a nice conclusion of her season 3 storyline as well as a great cliffhanger and set up for season 4. Same for Jon - his storyline in part 1 ends with him leaving the wildlings finally and heading back to the Wall. It also connects with a certain part of Bran's story - also a great one to end a season with IMO. Another great scene to end season 3 with is Stannis burning the leeches, naming the usurpers. I get chills when he says "Usurper Robb Stark" by READING it, let alone seing it on screen. Of course a certain incident in Craster's keep would make a great ending as well. I really do hope they squeeze all of that and everything that happened earlier into season 3, so that we can truly cherish the epicness of the two weddings from later on in the following season.

God, I swear book 3 is so awesome it's only right to split it into two seasons. Sorry for being so spoiler heavy, but I'm kinda obsessed with ASoS :P
Not a surprise but so great news! :-)
ReplyDeleteNow give me more episodes please HBO! I found the first season too short and the wait between the two seasons so awful...
YES! Not surprised, but I'll still be jumping up and down for a few moments.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even allow myself to worry...
ReplyDeleteThe season 3 finale is the most dreaded hour of television in my life(so far)!
There are a lot of points they could end it and most of the characters do have somewhat natural "breaks" between the two volumes of that book for sure.
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting to see how non-readers respond to RW.... For me it is arguably the best scene of any of the books, but I am curious to see how fans of typical TV react to the events.....
*****UPDATE******
ReplyDeleteGRRM has commented on Season 3 from his Not-a-Blog while on vacation in London:
"Yes, it's official.
HBO has ordered a third season of GAME OF THRONES.
Like the first two seasons, it will be ten episodes long. This one will cover (roughly) the first half or thereabouts of A STORM OF SWORDS, the third novel in the series.
I'll be writing the seventh episode, with the working title "Autumn Storms."
Full details can be found at a dozen other places on the web, so I won't rehash 'em here. Just wanted to pass along the news to my faithful readers.
We had a grab event tonight at the Bloomsbury Theatre. Now I'm tired. night, all."
I'm just surprised they didn't announce season 3,4 and 5.
ReplyDeleteI wanna be surprised but I can't because it was 100% expected. So I'll just settle with simple being very very very Happy!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they scrapped the idea of breaking book 3 in two parts....?
Autumn Storms, hmmmmm...I can't relate the title to any part of ASoS. I certainly don't want it to be RW.
ReplyDeleteNope, GRRM himself said that said season 3 will roughly cover half of aSoS.
ReplyDeleteAgreed aSoS FTW! But from what I've heard, I don't think they'll end season 3 without the RW. Ep9 is my bet. Then ep10 could end on a hopeful note with another wedding :)
ReplyDeleteSounds very fast paced imo but they made the pace work very well for the first two seasons so far. In D&D we trust.
And that's what I get for not checking my Lj today... Thanks!!! :D
ReplyDeleteYou think? I was kinda sure there was too much to put into season 3 to fit also the RW in there... but now come to think of it, it's definitely better to end a season with it, not to start one, plus it did happen more or less in the middle of ASoS.
ReplyDeleteJust like last year!
ReplyDeleteThat was my first thoughts too but then I thought back and remembered that there is A LOT that happens after the RW.Will be interesting to see what happens.
ReplyDeletewho didn't see this coming?
ReplyDeleteI honestly have no clue where they will place RW! XD
ReplyDeleteIT makes a strong climax if they put it in Episode 3.09 and then follow it up with closure like they did with the last two episodes of Season 1.
I also think the natural split in the book is before RW. So if they end with some of the earlier mentioned events and then begin Season 4 with RW that would make a HUGE impact as a season premiere.
I'm not sure which is better psychologically, to have people shocked (and maybe angry) for an entire off season or to shock them and then let them calm down the next week when the new episode airs.
Either way as a finale or a premiere it should make a statement and get a little press! XD
Yeah, it's just like Winter. We all knows it's coming, it's just a matter of when :)
ReplyDeletehaha. yes... well said... :)
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like the storms in the mainlands when Jon is returning to the wall.
