Dick Clark, the music industry maverick, longtime TV host and powerhouse producer who changed the way we listened to pop music with "American Bandstand," and whose trademark "Rockin' Eve" became a fixture of New Year's celebrations, died today at the age of 82.

Clark's agent Paul Shefrin said in statement that the veteran host died this morning following a "massive heart attack."

  1. I've seen deaths posted here before, and the man was a very important part of show business. I didn't think this was a big deal.

  2.  Reporting a death isn't gossip. If that's your definition of gossip then almost everything this site posts it gossip and therefore it's a gossip site

  4. I definitely don't want to get into an argument here, or cause offence at all, i know all your names now and have spoken with and like you all! :) So i mean well when i say i agree somewhat with b3rt4 .

Perhaps if i explain: i come here to read about fictional universes, the real world is a pretty sad place, so i prefer to keep them apart. Perhaps if this guy acted in one of the tv shows we track here i could understand more? (although even then i'd really prefer it weren't posted)

No big deal, but if i didn't say now, maybe more would start being posted and it'd start to be a problem. :)

  5. Ok off topic but... where does this 'top 250' thing come from that i have now? I'm curious, i've seen everyone else's but haven't signed up for any of these game/scoring type things so wasn't aware i'd get one! I don't mind of course, just curious. :)

  10. Last time I checked, the name of the site was "SpoilerTV"...and Dick Clark was one of the most influential people on television for many, MANY years. To report his death here isn't gossip at all.

  11. Condolences to his family and friends!

And not to sound disrespectful but I have no clue who this guy is. I doubt many people outside the US actually do.

  12. I understand what you are saying, but for some of us Dick Clark brought a great deal of happiness and good times,he introduced music to millions of people, and it also taught millions of kids, teenagers and even parents how to dance. At least for me i am celebrating his life, not death. He made the world a much better place!

  14. A Legend has past.  May He Rest in Peace.  I grew up w/Dick Clark.  Lived an hour away from Philadelphia.  Ran home from school just to Dance w/Dick and the gang.

  15. I have watched him since I was a kid in the late 50's and the 60's.  He'll be missed but always remembered.
