Despite the apparent make-nice between Chevy Chase and Community creator Dan Harmon, who apologized for leaking an expletive-laden voicemail rant from Chase earlier this month, a new tape has surfaced to ripple the waters. In another slow-boiling message, obtained by Celebuzz, Chase expresses his frustration with Harmon’s editorial decisions on Community.

i was just wondering..could they be just, you know, faking this feud? xD to promote community better?
ReplyDeleteI kind of thought that but there has been a lot of bad blood between them for a while now and both are known to be dickheads. Really I just want it to stop, this drama is boring.
ReplyDelete*yawn* - pair of idiots if you ask me. Although it sounds like Chevy really doesn't want to let it go...?
ReplyDelete*sigh* I was hoping this was going to fade into obscurity... I think it's just going to give Community bad press if it keeps going much longer.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it would be a fake feud - there's too much of a risk that people would see Community in a negative light because of it. Not all press is good press, which is unfortunate in this situation.
ReplyDeleteI was all set to jump all over Chevy because I have heard he's a jerk, but in this clip I thought he expressed himself well, and rather respectfully. I do get his point. He believes he's being used badly and he's very angry. There's nothing wrong with expressing your anger if you believe you're being used badly. And he did say to Dan that he likes him.
ReplyDeleteWe can't tell if we'd agree with him or not because we didn't see the bits that he says were edited out, but I take it that Chevy's style is more "slapstick," while Dan's is more metahumor. If Chevy's style does not fit the whole scheme of Community, then it's understandable he'd be cut. But Chevy, the comic, is the proverbial klutz--who hangs an ornament on a tree then falls down with it. Who ties a dead relative to the top of the car, and so on. Other than the recent ice-cream scene, Pierce's klutziness is not a main feature of the show. But Pierce is not Clark Griswold. Chevy has got to be wondering why he was chosen for the part when someone else could do it as well.
So yes. Chevy's got a point.
Once Chevy starts, he doesn't stop. Ever. That guy holds a grudge like a mother holds her child when DCFS comes to the house.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be a real shame if the show took a hit because of this. :\
ReplyDeleteHonestly is getting kind of annoying, if Chevy didn't like the job he could always leave, but it's Dan Harmon's show and it's his decision what to do with his characters...
ReplyDeleteReally, again? Can they just stop?
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised by the fact that it is still going on...I'm just worried how it will affect Community
ReplyDeleteHe's much like Bill Murray from what I hear. Too much living it up in the 80's went to their heads imo :(
ReplyDeleteI do kinda get his point. Chevy is more respectful in this voicemail. Don't know if it was sent before or after the last voicemail, but seeing as he's talking about a season 2 episode, he might have sent this before. How did EW get this? It doesn't say, but it sounds like Dan responds to a point Chevy makes.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is, an episode is 20 minutes long, and it is an ensemble sitcom. Stuff is gonna get cut, and so a story is gonna get wrapped up rather than whatever physical comedy Chevy is doing. Some of the other cast members might have had stuff cut out. Where's Ken Jeong's voicemails?? Since he has been cut out the most, sometimes even just a single line in an episode, or not even in at all.
He acts a little prima donna, but makes the point that they need to talk face to face about it.
I suspect he was hired because of his celebrity status, to bring in viewers. Now THAT would be a legitimate reason for Chevy to be ticked off, and to quit. After all, he is a comedian and not an actor, and apparently has no interest in becoming one. Still, I'm sorry for him that he's feeling hurt, and that he's too dense to know why.
ReplyDeleteShame. I have warmed to Pierce over the last season and a half -- be sad to see him go, but it's looking like that's the way it's heading.
ReplyDeleteSo, wait… how was this released? This is an actual conversation that must have been recorded with the intention of one day releasing it. So point douchebag goes where here?
ReplyDeleteWell, this gives Community a lot of press at least, probably read by people who don't watch Community, so who knows? It's nowhere near other feuds - and yes I realize that Community is fragile/on the bubble :s but I'm trying to be optimistic.
ReplyDeleteI understand the reasons but Community isn't slapstick comedy. Chevy Chase is very good as Pierce so I wish they could resolve that, but the show can't orbit arount CC and it isn't about slapstick although it incorporates some. It just isn't that kind of show.Other than that, as eb00089 said, I don't watch Community for Chevy Chase, so if he has to go, he'll be gone, too bad for all but the show could survive without him. A curmudgeon can be found.
Do you think it was intentional? It could be Dan did that when he saw the ID, as proof of Chevy's argumentativeness. I really don't think Chevy was aware he was being recorded.
ReplyDeleteI think people should stop leaking these things... It will resolved better if they kept it to themselves... I think Chevy is pissed off by how is being treated on the show. What Dan did by playing a voicemail to a crows was a pretty shitty thing to do and there is really no coming back from that completely. It's not like there is millions of dollars to be made by sticking around and I don't think Chevy gets the show like most of the fans do..to him, it's just another gig. and he doesn't like being treated a certain way. I dont agree with most of what he has done, but I get where he is coming from..
ReplyDeleteI dont think thats probable. I certain this is real
ReplyDeleteyes. He can leave the show. I don't know what is the contract he has with the show, but I am sure that unless something remarkable happens in the near future, he is leaving. it's just sad that Dan, who has made such an awesome show, has let it come down to this. I fault Dan for this mess. His voice mail shenanigan was the the catalyst to all this. millions of fans campaigned for the show to return, wrote to the networks, talked about it, made sure it wouldn't be forgotten and Dan decided that he doesn't really care about all that by doing something so immature and stupid.
