After yesterday's Epic Poll and Post that received over 1800 vote and 450+ comments, a number of Supernatural Fans asked if we could run a new poll today.
Please keep the comments respectful and polite. We don't want to have to BAN anyone like we did yesterday with a number of unfriendly people.
SO vote for your favourite in the Poll below and let us know who you voted for and why.

Sam!
ReplyDeleteDean's my favorite, but Cas and Sam are awesome as well.
ReplyDeleteI love all of them equally :(
ReplyDeleteWhy would you do this to us?
ReplyDeleteSam. I've been liking him more now than I have since season 3. Seasons 4, 5, and the first half of season 6 really did a number on him; but he's been great lately.
ReplyDeleteDean has been getting more annoying to me since season 4 premiered. All the man-tears, his Batman voice, and the past few seasons his holier-than-thou attitude. I still love him though, but not how I used to.
I love Castiel, wholly and truly. However, after season 5 there really wasn't any use for him; and it showed, having him fight a war off-screen in season 6. The boys having an angel in their corner really detracts from the tension the show is supposed to have.
Dean. Plain and simple. :]
ReplyDeleteSam definitely. ^^
ReplyDelete:O Y U NO LOVE SAM???
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Castiel. He's the most interesting addition to the series. Second would be Dean and then Sam. But all three are terrific. :)
ReplyDeleteSam from day 1 .
ReplyDeleteThis poll seems designed to stir up strife. Wowser.
ReplyDeleteMy beautiful angel, of course!
ReplyDeleteGah. This is like forcing me to pick my favourite kid. I love them all, okay.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when this happens. The SPN fandom is already divided into factions. It doesn't need any outside encouragement.
ReplyDeleteI love them all equally, but I'm voting for Cas because he needs love.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Cas girl but pre-Cas I was a Samgirl and lately I've been reluctantly pulled into Deangirl territory and basically this poll is meeeaaaaaaan :// Don't take voting for one as being anti-the other two, OK, kids?
ReplyDeleteI like them all. They each have add something to the show in their own unique way. But I voted Castiel because Sam and Dean will always be on the show unlike Cas who's been missing for too long and the show just isn't the same without him.
ReplyDeleteI love both all the boys but Dean has always been my favourite. Lurve that bow legged hero.
ReplyDeleteSam has the lowest votes?!!!! WHY?!!!! :( i voted for sam!
ReplyDeletei do but they only gave me one vote! *sob*
ReplyDeleteDO NOT WANT!
ReplyDeleteDean was my favorite from season 1-5. Actually he is my favorite character in any show or movie ever.
ReplyDeleteBut season 6&7 Dean has been too disappointing. Castiel has been my favorite from there (even if he's barely been in season 7).
Still voted Dean, because no character has ever made as much impact on me as Dean.
I'm not voting I choose life.
ReplyDeleteI can't pick just one because there's always an "IF" attached.
ReplyDeleteDean IF he's enjoying himself (or at least not overly filled with angst and/or self-loathing or being too damn judgmental)
Sam IF he's dark and dangerous (and demon blood always helps)
Castiel IF he's not being self-righteous ("confused by Sam and Dean" is the best version of Cas)
So since those three always have fluctuating states of being, I'll have to choose...
Meg. :P
Castiel.
ReplyDeleteI like Meg:)
ReplyDeleteCastiel baby
ReplyDeleteEvery fandom is divided in some way on who they like more, have you seen TVD or Gossip girl boards.lol
ReplyDeleteOMG, this poll feels like the worst idea ever, I can't believe fans asked for this.
ReplyDelete... and yet I'm going to comment anyways.
I find Sam the most relatable. I was on his side throughout season four, and even when it started to become clear that drinking demon blood was as much about making him feel powerful as it was about saving the world, I still totally understood where he was coming from, and never blamed him for an instant. He's a beautiful, tragic character. I love how sensitive he is to other people. I love how hard he tries. No matter how far he falls, he always finds the strength to pick himself back up and keep trying. He's wonderful. My heart goes out to him constantly.
Dean is my favourite Winchester, though, even though he can be an absolute asshole. Largely because I love Jensen's acting, and the subtle shifts we see in his eyes when Dean is trying to keep up his macho facade and keep things together. The thing I love most about Dean, though, is that he personifies the problems with American hegemonic masculinity. He has this red-blooded-American-man tough-guy persona, that he works at maintaining. But keeping up that persona forces him to repress his feelings and desires and ends up damaging him emotionally and mentally. All he's ever wanted was his family, together. Deep down, he's pretty maternal. He's the one who raised Sam, he did the emotional work in his family keeping the peace between his father and brother, he's great with kids, and at one point he wanted to be in love and have a child of his own (in season 3, he dreamed about being with Lisa and Ben). But he's been forced to deny all these things, and now he's a broken, empty alcoholic, and it's not just the life of a hunter that's done this to him, it's the hyper-masculinity of the hunter sub-culture. I find it all very interesting and compelling, and I just want to hug Dean. Unless I want to smack him upside the head for being a jerk. One of those two things.
And I wish the brothers were enough for me. I really do. But Castiel is my favourite. I still watch the show, but there's been a gaping hole in my heart ever since he left. Misha Collins' on-screen presence in addicting. And I seriously mean that literally. I need him on my TV. And Castiel is such a beautiful, complex, epic character. I loved how conflicted he was in season 4, his journey towards awakening his own free will and agency. I loved how bad ass he was in season 5, how adamantly he committed himself to the cause. And I love what happened to him season 6. How committed he was to the idea of free will, how hard he fought, how bad his mistakes were. I love him for his mistakes. I love seeing him struggle with free will, and struggle with emotions, and struggle with having relationships with humans. It's fascinating and compelling. There is so much depth and complexity to the character, so much that can be explored with him. The character really requires a spin-off to do him justice and fully pursue his story.
I'm the exact same. Sam was my favorite in the beginning, but then Cas overtook him...and I've earned a new appreciation for Dean over the past few years, as well.
ReplyDelete"You ain't from around here are ya?"
ReplyDeleteI just say that because I'm not sure you grasp the gravity of a schism in the SPN fanbase. It can get... scary.
I love them all, but the order will always be like this: DEAN, Sammy, Cas.
ReplyDeleteSam. I can't stand Cas, the character isn't even interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteDean.
ReplyDeleteBut what is with the stupid unnecessary poll? It has zero purpose, except to get cheap hits or more wank?
And sorry, Castiel is not more popular than Sam or Dean. It just means Cas fans are more desparate to make him seem as significant. Dumb move TVSpoiler.
Sam all the way
ReplyDeleteOverall: Dean
ReplyDeleteCurrently: Sam
Castiel has never made it past fourth place for me.
Cas is in the lead, as of noon Pacific, Friday 3/9/12. I bet Castiel is benefiting because a lot of people miss him. It's really hard to choose between these characters, why not vote for the one you're missing??
ReplyDeleteSammy!! he's been my boy since day one!
ReplyDeleteDean. Always.
ReplyDeleteBut very disappointed that they did this poll. So unnecessary.
You can't do this to us.. we refuse to choose!
ReplyDeleteNow this is just mean haha.. if I'm honest, my gut says Castiel, since he's what brought me to the show in the first place. I was fascinated that the show was taking on angel lore, and I pretty much fell in love with the guy from the start :) But I grew to love Sam and Dean just as much when I went back and watched from the beginning.. this was hard!
ReplyDeleteThey did a similar thing on the Gossip Girl forum - they asked "Dair" or "Chair", which pretty much unraveled into like 6 pages of angry comments and caps lock wars haha.. I really hope that doesn't happen here! I love all three boys :)
ReplyDeleteOh this should be fun ;) Voted for that trench coat wearing Angel, Sam would be second, Dean third
ReplyDeleteSorry, My favourites are Sam and Dean, period.
ReplyDelete"Confused by Sam and Dean" is my favorite version of Cas EVER.. we needed more of that Cas.
ReplyDeleteI get Dean beating Sam...I do. But to have Cas nearly equal to Dean and beating Sam by that much?? I just don't understand it. Where's the Sammy love?? Sam and Dean have been the crux of the show from Day 1 and as much as I love Cas, too, I just don't get it, especially after he betrayed them SO badly last season.
ReplyDeleteoh well I am certain that all the internet fans of Destiel and Castiel are scratching themselfes together to proof that the angel is needed in this show.
ReplyDeleteThe show doesn't need the angel, they need to fix the brothers!!! It is ridiculous for me that this poll even exists. For now I won't vote. Some other here mentioned that the brothers are the heart and the soul of this show. This is spot on, exactly what I think!
When this poll is raising fro Castiel I want to remember that people who are for Castiel voted against PCA in december for our boys. Now they come back as never something happened. But they do harm the show, they only want Castiel with Dean because Dean is the POV character in this show!
I would choose for the outsider in this show and this is Sammy!!! Sammy the outcast, the outsider, the lonesome wolf in the series who still holds onto his in herent goodness despite EVERYTHING!
Deaner! Castiel wouldn't have been as great as he was without his being around the Winchesters. Besides, Gabriel is the best angel!
ReplyDeleteReally I don't understand why he's even on here. He's not a main character even if there are those who want him to be. It will always be Sam and Dean. I think Cas fans are just the loudest the fact that Cas is beating even Dean proves that. There are more Dean fans than Cas fans (hopefully more Sam fans too) I KNOW THERE ARE. If there weren't the ratings would have suffered when he left....they didn't.
ReplyDeleteThis is a mean poll. I voted for Sam because I find him the most relatable, but my vote also comes with a very big qualifier - if the character is getting good material to work with. And I don't think Sam has had good material in the last couple of years. Yeah, there was soulless part and now the hallucinations, but I refuse to accept that the soulless thing was Sam, and while the hallucinations story has had a few good moments, we're not getting deep enough into Sam's psyche for me really get excited about it. Last year Cas had the best material, and by the end of the season, Cas was the character I was excited about. I haven't liked where Dean has been for the last few seasons, but while watching good Dean episodes from season 2-4, I'm totally behind Dean. I started SPN in season 5, so Gabriel was the first character I loved, but if this was a poll on the hottest Winchester, I think I would have to go with John.
ReplyDeleteTrust me I know I been in this fandom since 2007.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprise im still alive.lol
As I said below I love both brothers but when necessary I will give my extra support to he who is the underdog, or outsider as you call him, and at this moment it is definitely Sam.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Sammy! :)
Dean
ReplyDeleteI really hate these kinds of polls. It's just pointless. Does it really matter who gets the most votes? Only to the fans who are going to get the nastiest about it. They'll use it as prove to tear apart the character they hate. I really wish we could either vote for two or not have to do them at all. Why couldn't have a poll about our favorite Castiel episode? Or our favorite mental breakdown episode moment? Why do we have to have polls that set people against our people's favorites? It's just going to be the same. I'm disappointed this is the best kind of poll we could get. A favorite contest?
ReplyDeleteDean, forever and always.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first started watching the show I was purely bi-brother and if this poll was given to me then I would have to say that I couldn't have chosen. But now and after S4, it is a different matter. I choose Sam. Not just because I can relate to his geekiness but the fact that he has overcome so much. How he is portrayed doesn't do him justice I think-- he is one of the only characters who I can relate in that he struggles with what he is anew each season and then he steps up to the plate even if he ends up starting the apocalypse. And also because he is the more supernatural part of the two brothers (Dean being the more human part).
ReplyDeleteDean. No apologies. :)
ReplyDeleteDean > Sam > Bobby >>>> Castiel
ReplyDeleteWow, need more Sam love on here!
ReplyDeleteCan't vote because I love them all, but Sam and Dean the most, of course.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the ''all those answers'' option?^^;;; I can't choose
ReplyDeleteDean.
ReplyDeleteFunny poll is funny XD
Same here, Bobby was easily the best character on the show.
ReplyDeletelol, you should try being part of the Doctor Who fanbase, SPN fans are just amateurs XD
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love them all, I have to go with Dean. As rough and tough as he is, the more we have watched, the more we see his emotion and heart. I also love that of all of them, he has the most humor
ReplyDeleteWell, the answer changes every few episodes..Right now I'm going with Cas because I'm excited about his return!
ReplyDeleteBrave move,the poll... ; )
Too funny. I can't wait to see the results...I'm keeping my choice a secret.
ReplyDeleteSam. He is very much a Human hero.
ReplyDeleteSo,only main characters are allowed to be considered someone's favorite. Why?!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for someone not liking Cas(or any other character),cause it's a matter of personal opinion, but I really don't understand your argument.I've heard a lot of people saying that their favorite character is Bobby,Crowley,Gabriel,Ellen...They don't qualify because they're not Sam or Dean?
You mean to tell me that out of all the TV shows, movies and books out there, the main character is ALWAYS your favorite?Could be,but I'd be very surprised.
Personally,I can give you countless examples where my favorite characters are the secondary ones.
It's important to be at least a little interested in the protagonists, but it's pretty common to like some other character more..
Castiel, cause honestly I have a thing for un-human characters (Illyria BB) and I really loved his arc in seasons 4-5. It was very self contained and meaningful.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved Dean, but... dude has issues.
Dean's always been my favorite. I was 12 or 13 when I started watching. He was one of my first TV crushes, lol. He makes me laugh and Jensen does a great job protraying him.
ReplyDeleteCastiel's second. I am a sucker for angels and blue eyes and in Season 4 and 5 he acted like I thought a warrior angel should. Plus his interactions with Dean and Sam were always so fun to me. All my favorite episodes after Season 3 and before Season 7 have Cas in them. He adds so much to the show.
Sam and Bobby I don't know where to place them 3rd or 4th.
Sam reminds me of myself in some ways. I like him, but don't crush on him like Dean and Cas. His storylines haven't made me interested since Season 2. I didn't like him going all demon blood boy in Season 4, though that was interesting. (Same as I didn't like Cas's route in Season 6).
Bobby I like because he's gruff and funny and tells it how it is. He knows how to talk to Dean to get him out of his depression. I've always liked calling him "Uncle Bobby". And despite me loving Cas, I would take his return first over Cas because he's so important to the boys. And he's been around for all 7 seasons.
My most favorite episodes have all 4 characters. Bonus if Rufus and Balthazar or Gabriel are around. XD
For the sake of the poll, I chose Dean b/c he was the one that drew me in. But really the show cannot exist without either of the brothers. Both actors portray their characters wonderfully and IMO the evolution of each characters makes them equal to me.
ReplyDeleteAnd what the heck is up not having Bobby in this poll? I love Misha, but Bobby is a much better character than Castiel.
No matter how hard Dean makes me go "Aaaawww" or how Cas makes me laugh every damn time he opens his mouth (especially when Dean or Sam confused him). No one will ever shove Sam off of my petestal. :-)
ReplyDeleteall three are awsome but i think the one with less like baggage and crazyness is Castiel so i voted for him. But between the brothers i've always liked dean the best (except maybe early season 7).
ReplyDeleteI love all 3 of them, but it has to be either Dean or Sam. They are the show.
ReplyDeleteomg Y U so cruel? I love them all!!! >.<
ReplyDelete*sigh* Cas and Dean are awesome but in the end I had to vote for my Sammy. <333
Why isn't Bobby on the list?
ReplyDeleteBecuase the people who sent in the poll only listed these 3
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing wrong with having your favorite character being a supporting character so calm down. But Supernatural is not like other shows, tv, or books that's what you're not getting. Supporting characters on SN only show up for a handful of episodes whereas in other shows they are in almost every episode. I just don't understand how you would enjoy the show that much if your fav character is only around about 10 episodes a season or may be killed off. I imagine that would be miserable because you don't see the character you enjoy the most very often.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure a majority of fan would have voted for "all those answer" option.
ReplyDeleteIt's more fun like that. And as some people said, having a favorite doesn't mean there is no love for the others characters.
But I like your "thinking out the box" comment :-)
considering the number of people who have voted (not that many) I'd say things are split pretty evenly.
ReplyDeletewow...can we just not do this? I mean every character on Supernatural has their good times and their bad times. I don't think anyone should just vote on their "favorite" Honestly, there are too many seasons to like one character in everything they do. I adore Castiel, but I hated what he did with Purgatory. And I absolutely love Sam, but I think he's been dick on occasion (not just talking about souless Sam) And Dean, how I can I describe Dean. Kind of a messed up tortured soul who you hate for all his whining but love for all his epicness. Can we all just vote Team Free Will and leave it at that...sorry I know people are going to hate but I hate character bashing and fighting...also I hate this poll. I'm just saying, it's stupid. And there are more than three characters on that show.
ReplyDeleteGabriel's one of my favorite characters. I've made peace with the fact that I don't see him much anymore.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I loved Badass Cas, but confused but curious to understand those strange humans creatures was my favorite Cas.
ReplyDeleteDamn' I'm gonna miss his permanent frown.
"this isn't funny Dean, the voice says I'm almost out of minutes"
Your comment made me LOL ... even if, sadly, it's true.
ReplyDeleteIt was more cutesy-rhetorical and faux!whiney so sorry for the confusion, but thanks for the answer. :D
ReplyDeleteI really dislike this poll. All it is designed to do is cause fandom wars and of course get SpoilerTV page hits. No good comes from this with the Supernatural community, especially since the Supernatural pages here are beginning to look like all those everywhere else. Nothing but dissension and disrespect and flaming. I used to come to SpoilerTV to avoid that.
ReplyDeleteCool, A Sam girl!
ReplyDeleteI thought wrongly that Cas fan were mostly from the Dean side of the force :-)
And You're so right about not being anti-the others.
Cas is my fav too but I have love enough for all SPN characters*
*except the ghostfacers characters, I find them really annoying
Actually it seems designed to stir up page hits regardless of the strife.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite surprised Cas got more vote than Sam.
ReplyDeleteI suspect Castiel got a lot of vote for the reason you mention. As a farewell from the fans who will miss him.
So you only watch and enjoy a show if your favourite character is on it?
ReplyDeleteWell, then I'm relly glad for you that Sam or Dean are your favourites, I personally watch the show for more than my favourite character which right now is Cas, but it's really a tie between Dean and Cas most of the time. Plus, picking up a favourite doesn't mean you don't love the rest of the characters and enjoy his journey, so I don't see why it would be so difficult to understand someone having a favourite who's not Sam and Dean. And seriously, in most shows the supporting characters are not truly safe either and they don't necesarily appear in every episode. It's not really a matter of screen time sometimes and more about which character you feel more connected to or interested in.
And also, you talk like Cas has only been in a couple of episodes, when really he's been there for 3 seasons and some episodes on S7, and in that time he's got almost as much episodes as Bobby who's there since S1, so he's still pretty major, not a minor a character. Would i like him to be in every single episode? hell yeah! but I understand he's not the protagonist, and I love Sam and Dean too, so yeah I think it's possible for me enjoy the show without him... With him I just love it even more, that's all lol.
Your post is a wonderful declaration of love for the show.
ReplyDeleteI like every single word of it.
I find your comment about Dean
personifying the problems of men and their masculinity very accurate.
I'm sooo on the same page as you about Cas. To comfort myself, I try to remember that we were lucky to have him for so long. Except for Sam and Dean, of course, no other character had as much developpement as Cas. We were lucky indeed :-)
Thanks for sharing your love for those three awesome characters.
I miss his little "You make no sense to me, silly humans" head tilt
ReplyDeleteFantastic way to describe all three characters and it's like you read my mind and write down why I love each one of them. Totally agree!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm a little naive, but I think we could have different opinions, defend them and still be respectful of each other's.
ReplyDeleteWhat would the point of exchanging our thoughts if we all have exactly the same view of the show?
Diversity is a plus, not something to fight off.
This is the first poll I don't want to answer. Not because I'm offended or have anything against it...I just don'er have a desire to choose. :-D
ReplyDeleteSam's definitely my favorite. Probably Castiel next cause he's annoyed me less than Dean has.
ReplyDeleteI so agree. I voted for Sam although it is close between him and Dean. I know Dean usually wins these things, so I went with my heart and threw my love Sam's way.
ReplyDeleteI do wish there had been a Sam and Dean equally option, or a Sam and Dean together. It would have accommodated those of us who love BOTH brothers instead of having to choose.
ReplyDeleteHey! I'm for Castiel, but I did not voted against PCA. I always support SPN.
ReplyDeleteI hit the "I like" in every SPN related post and make comment to help our show being on the most popular on spoiler tv, and I vote in favor of SPN when I'm aware there is a poll somewhere on the web.
I buy the dvd and recommend SPN to anyone who ask me about good tv shows.
I may not be an obsessive fan, but I consider myself a loyal SPN fan.
Please do not put every Cas fan in the same box. It is unfair and I'm sure it hurt some people as it hurt me.
I respect you and do not assume you're a bad fan because you have a different opinion. May I ask the same courtesy from you?
Dean gets my vote but I confess that Castiel is a very close second. I did almost vote for him because the haters bash him so incessantly, but in the end, my loyalty always lies with Dean.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree: Daddy Winchester is the hottest, both young and old versions.
ReplyDeleteI was so disappointed when the boys found their father at the end of season 1 only to see him killed a few episodes later.
I miss "sir" :-)
I liked souless Sam. To see Sam so out of character made me remember what I like in him. It was fun and it gave Jared some new material to work.
I'm quite tired with hallucifer though. As you said, it would be more interesting if we got more into Sam psyche and had more talking about it between the brothers.
About the poll, I like it. don't think the poll is mean per se. It's some fans reaction to it which is mean.
As I said in another post, couldn't we share our opinions and be respectful of people who think differently?
Faithfull to your first SPN love. That's so cute.
ReplyDeleteDon't ever change ;-)
I have to admit that I don't relate to Sam at all because he is always tied to the supernatural and always presented as such a victim. It's why I have always identified more with Dean. He is very human in his flaws and failures and there are no supernatural excuses to let him off the hook. The guy owns his mistakes and takes responsibility for them without looking for anyone or anything else to blame. I just wish the show would celebrate his humanity instead constantly presenting it as helpless in order to celebrate Sam's supernatural connections. Or Cas' for that matter. I think the message of the show has gotten severely muddled since the middle of season 5.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Not really.
ReplyDeleteSAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletePoll or not poll, SPN fandom has always been passionate.
ReplyDeletePosting the promotional photo concerning the controversial return of a
certain character generated 467 comments. I was eager to read, but I
quickly stopped and refrained from commenting because of the tone of
some post :-/
But I wouldn't be so harsh as you. The stirring and disrespect come from a few.
Fortunately, most of the fans on spoiler tv remain courteous.
I understand what you are saying and what you want. But there are a group of fans that spoils it. I think a lot of fans can respect someone else's opinion and view. I have seen and be a part of some really interesting conversations with very different views from my own. It's wonderful to participate in when everyone is respectful. But as wonderful as it is to be respect for your thoughts, the bashing of actors and personal views matches it in misery.
ReplyDeleteA lot of times, polls like this brings it out bashing and not the respect. People get very defensive when it comes to a favorite character. Most fans love more than one character. I do think it's important to have a different view and create diversity. But this is more of a popularity contest than a difference of opinion or an attempt to have exchange of thoughts.
I didn't think my comment expressed any type of sentiment towards censoring the exchange of different ideas. Mainly, I was stating my displeasure with having a poll that encourages favoritism, division, and fighting. It's gets too nasty too quickly because fans like to use something like this to prove their point or bully someone around. It doesn't get people talking about the show. Mostly, it gets people annoyed that once again something is going to potentially stir up trouble or it causes trouble. It's always tense during the breaks between episodes, so it's bad timing too.
I always have a preference for the older brother on every show I watch...
ReplyDeleteBobby FTW!
ReplyDeleteI hate these polls. The brothers are my favorite (Sam #1), but because it killed me when he died, I would probably vote for Bobby!
ReplyDeleteDean and Dean only (my overall favorite is Future!Dean though). Not really interested in Castiel but I'll choose him over Super Special Snowflake Sammy Sue any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
ReplyDeleteAgree so much with you! It's so unnecessary, and at a time when flames are high.
ReplyDeleteSam!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am, and always have been, a Sam girl. The other guys are AWESOME too! But my loyalty lies with Jared for some reason. (I think it's the dimples ;)
ReplyDeleteWhoa that was harsh. Personally I prefer characters to actually have a personality.
ReplyDeleteIs this really necessity for you to make a nasty comment about Sam to say Dean is your favorite? This is why I hate these kinds of polls.
ReplyDeleteCastiel's my favorite. I find his story the most interesting of pretty much any TV character I've ever seen. He's very admirable and adorable. I bawled my eyes out when I found out he wasn't going to magically be intact within the next few episodes after walking into that lake.
ReplyDeleteDean would be my second favorite. Admittedly a close second, but I know more about Dean and I want to know more about Castiel, so Cas is first in my heart at the moment. I enjoy his emotional turmoil and humor and sometimes he makes me want to cry too.
Sam I like as well, especially when he was soulless and lately when he's utterly badass. Sometimes I miss the bratty know-it-all from the beginning, but I like the mature version more.
In short I like them all and definitely prefer it when Supernatural has all three of them.
I agree. If Castiel is on it, others should be as well... Such as BOBBY!!!, and John (he has tons of fans). Also, some people enjoy the bad guys as much as the good guys. I love, love, love Lucifer, Alistair, and Crowley. Although for me it is always Sam & Dean.... and I mean Sam & Dean together. When I have just Sam or just Dean the episode has the impact of nearly any episode where the guys are together. Even when they are fighting I am riveted.
ReplyDeleteWell, seeing how that show has decades on SPN... *Cough*
ReplyDelete"Hello, boyssshh." lol
ReplyDeleteI respectfully disagree with you. SpoilerTV was once a haven for Supernatural fans who were tired of brothers wars and other divisive fandom issues. It was a pleasant place where all opinions, while not always shared, were at least tolerated. However, in the last 7 months we have seen robust discourse on SpoilerTV's SPN threads turn into flame wars, repetitive/constant complaining, and hate spewing time and time again. This is especially true any time there is a hiatus, which unfortunately is a lot. It's tiring and unfortunate because SpoilerTV was one of the last vestiges of calm and rational discussion for SPN fans on the internet.
ReplyDeleteDean Winchester all the way What that man does to me well don't think I can say it here Isn't this site rated PG??? let's just say he can kick his boots under my bed anytime!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's because the CW closed their boards? Honestly I see it everywhere I go and it's really frustrating. Do we have to bring down one character to elevate our favorite?
ReplyDeleteNo disrespect but this poll is a bad idea, it encourages a fandom that's already at war to fight more. I used to come here because this site was "safe", people got along regardless of who they liked in the show but not anymore. No wonder people are leaving, looking for greener - safer - pastures, as the poll hits prove. It's sad.
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree with you. I think that Sam has owned up to his mistakes--just because poor writing/story plots have twisted it to be something other then it is doesn't mean that he hasn't owned up to them and taken responsibility. Yes, Dean is human and flawed but so is Sam--and honestly besides the demon blood which is more like an addiction and the soulessness--Sam hasn't been so supernatural. I really loved S1 with Sam's visions which made him uniquely supernatural and since S2 there hasn't been any indication of Sam's innate supernaturalness...discounting the whole stupid vessel SL. For the past two seasons at least Sam has been as human as Dean.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that the show's message got muddled up since S5-- I would say that that was the season where the writers got ahead of themselves and forgot about the characters in the grand scheme of the story. I think that S7 is being used to changed that back to what it used to be.
Dahne I can not agree more with your comment! I love it! I regret that Supernatural discussions have turned at times into a warzone about the show. The show has been great and is due to ALL the characters not just one or two.
ReplyDeleteI voted Sam. He's been my favorite since season 2 and although he's not been given good material to work with since season 4, I still think he's got plenty of potential.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm going to get the hell out of this poll, because I know it's just really going to be between Dean and Cas and I kinda hate that a little bit.
CW closing their board certainly could explain the disturbance in the force experienced posters like Dahne sense here ;-)
ReplyDelete"Do we have to bring down one character to elevate our favorite?"
That my friend is the crux of the problem.
People should be able to express their love in a positive way.
And It would really help if some fans weren't so defensive and understood that saying "that character is my favorite" doesn't mean "I hate the others"
I'm all for an open discussion, and I sometimes tend to be a little blunt in my opinions, but I've been posting here for about a year and a half now, and I'll concede that this fandom does have a habit get stuck in never-ending character wars that if unmonitored, can drown out all other discussion. It's best not to encourage it. The intent of the people who suggested this poll seems to be to prove that one character is more loved than another. There's just nothing good that can come out of that.
ReplyDeleteRepetitive complaints are indeed quite tiresome, I certainly agree with
ReplyDeleteyou on that. Personally, I have a hard time understanding fans who bash
an episode even before it aired just by reading the press release. I
don't think they are bad fans or something. It just irritate me. I deal
with it.
I suppose it's also a matter
of perspective.
I rarely venture on others spn communities, but from what I saw elsewhere, spoiler tv
is still a pleasant place to be. Also, I'm not an experienced poster as
you are so what I see now is the norm for me.
I think you're right on the fact that it wasn't the good time for such a poll tough, with the hellatus getting on fan nerves and Cas return stirring very opposites reactions.
Thanks to your post, I nuanced my point of view, but I (respectfully) still think it would be sad to censure ourselves to avoid fan war. . This poll generated some negative comment, but also some great
answers. Check MarissaAO awesome post for example.
SPN fandom can be very passionate. Our fandom major strenght is also its major weakness. I guess you can't have one without the other.
Maybe someone should suggest a poll on a subject who unite fan? Or a poll about the best way to avoid fan war?
On another thread, I suggested a poll about Sam hairs (I was joking) but now, I'm afraid it would be too controversial (still joking)
;-)
Avoid the thread if it irritates you is very wise.
ReplyDeleteI'm more a Cas fan (a spn fan really) and I voted for him, but I'm sad it hurt a fellow fan feelings. My apologies for that.
I do hope the next poll will be one who recall us how awesome and united SPN fandom can be too.
See you soon!
First a disclaimer - I'm not happy with the way Sam's Hell storyline has been sidelined throughout most of this season, and if the writers drop the momentum again in the next episode, and Sam's breakdown takes a back seat for the first three quarters of the episode, I'm going to be vocal about it after the episode airs.
ReplyDeleteBut with that said, I'm getting annoyed with the repetitive comments as well. Most everyone who posts a lot tends to get repetitive. For a while there was a bug with SpoilerTV's mobile site, and all the comments looked like they were posted by Dark. I was playing a game of trying to identify who wrote the comment just by what they said. There were a few regulars here who I could recognize immediately.
I think it's a fine line deciding which topics are OK to be repetitive about and which are not. Is repeating "the angels need to go" 20 times any better than repeating "we're not seeing Sam's POV" 20 times? Both are legitimate points of view, but both can come across as hostile to someone on the other side when the point is made over and over again.
What I'd like to see is people trying harder to stay on topic. For example, if the post is a spoiler is about John, don't post a long diatribe about how much you hate Cas. And if you read a post like that, don't "agree" with it and encourage more of the same. Maybe staying on topic is something the moderators could watch? There aren't too many posts like these last two that encourage flame wars, so if people only repeated these opinions on appropriate posts, the repetition should go down.
Repeatedly bashing Cas to build up Sam fits in that category.
ReplyDeleteI bow to your expertise. I'm not a regular poster and I'm quite new here.
ReplyDeleteI'm just a sucker for polls :-)
But reading some thought-out comments about this poll make me reconsidering my POV.
Also I just answered to a Sam fan who seemed hurted by the result. The last thing I want is to hurt my fellow spn fans :-/
I abstain from this poll. In fact, I think I abstain from SpoilerTV for a while. I've been avoiding reading the comments section here since just before Christmas as the negativity (and in some cases a downright lack of respect: anyone who saw the war perpetrated on the last poll re: Castiel's return will know what I'm talking about) was driving me up the wall, and the posting of this poll is the final straw, it practically invites people to be argumentative. While there are a core group of people who have been here long-term whose opinions I have missed and will miss reading, for the sake of my sanity I'm taking a break. I accept that other people are entitled to their opinions, but I am entitled to not want to read them, so with that in mind: bye bye SpoilerTV! I'll try again in six months or so.
ReplyDeleteYavemiel.
"I didn't think my comment expressed any type of sentiment towards censoring the exchange of different ideas."
ReplyDeleteNot at all. My deepest apologies if my post implicated that. English
isn't my native tongue and sometimes I cannot express finely-shaded opinionslike I would in french.
As I replied to chris684, reading some
thought-out comments about this poll made also me reconsider my POV. I
love polls and I like to exchange different opinions, but if fellow fans feelings are hurt, it's not worth it.
Thanks for your answer.
Dean!!!
ReplyDeleteJared is such a fun and easy guy. He's always smiling, it's hard not to love him :-)
ReplyDeleteOf course they're both awesome! But Sam's my favourite!! I really think he's the most "human" of the show, no matter what happened or what could happen next.
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe Bobby is really dead.
ReplyDeleteDid the PTB stated that he was gone for good or is it a "spn-death"?
After all, Dean,Sam and Cas have all been dead at some point and each of one is back and pretty*
*I meant healthy, back and healthy ;-D
I hate this poll! :-( It´s like saying who´s your favourite from your own kids! :-(
ReplyDeleteMaybe doing a poll about our favorite villain would be less controversial?
ReplyDeleteWe could also do a separate post/poll about or favorite scene for each character, or what scene represent the quintessence of what we love in that character?
The rule being : in the Sam post/poll we talk about Sam favorite scene; in the dean post/poll we talk about dean favorite scene, etc..
People who don't like a character simply could avoid that character thread. This way we could share our love and avoid bashing.
I would suggest doing that for Dean, Sam, Cas and Bobby as many Fan expressed their regret he was not part of this poll.
What do you people think?
How does the poll thing work anyway and who decide about it?
I can't vote in this, it is like asking a mom who is your favorite child. I love all of them and even though Cas is not a member of the family, he belongs with them. This show is about family that just happens to hunt things that go bump in the night and they all matter. Pick a favorite, I just can't do it.
ReplyDeleteI may print this out and frame it, every word was perfect. Damn I love this show.
ReplyDeleteRepetitive complaints started to permeate this board before December. It is sad because I like Spoiler TV. I voted in the poll above, keeping my choice to myself. The complaints have always been the same since season 1 and will never go away. All fans can do is ignore the things that irritate us and support the show overall...because flame and hate will never ever go away.
ReplyDeletehehe, that's what I mean XD When you have 11 main roles, all playing the same character, and hundreds upon hundreds of supporting actors it really does get quite nasty at times :(
ReplyDeleteWhy does it matter if their opinion differs to yours? It's only an opinion, not the truth at the end of the day :s
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but I think this poll was a big mistake and a really bad idea. As you can see spoilertv, many fans are not pleased you made this poll. It's just dividing the fandom even more and causes more drama. But maybe that's what spoilertv wanted. Why do fans have to choose sides is it not allowed to love and appreciate all characters? Not to mention it makes one of the characters or fanbase feel left out and inferior when it's so far behind the other characters. Please don't do polls like this again.
ReplyDeleteIt's okay. I'm struggling to pass French! So, I understand what it's like not be able to express yourself the way you normally would.
ReplyDeleteI don't care if the opinion is different. If don't care who someone's favorite is whether Dean, Sam, Castiel, Bobby, or the guy who got killed last episode.
ReplyDeleteBut I do have a problem being nasty and saying uncalled for things to justify why you didn't vote for someone. Why couldn't the opinion be given in such a way it doesn't have to tear down other favorites? It doesn't matter whether or not it's true, because it's an opinion, but being respectful to characters you don't like doesn't take much. And being disrespectful doesn't make your favorite better. It just upsets others. If Dean's your favorite, you don't need any other reason than that to vote for him.
Argh, how can you do this to me?! What a choice... *sigh* Castiel, definitely not. As I've stated before, I cannot stand him. But to choose between Sam and Dean!! I love them both so much. In the end, I chose Sam, because with the way Dean has been acting lately, I've been pushed farther and farther towards Sam. I consider myself bi-bro, because I love both boys. But, if I have to choose, then Sam. *pokes Dean* I still love you too, honest!
ReplyDeleteUm okay don't really see where you're going with that.
ReplyDeleteSorry that it effects you like that :( I just ignore any trollish comments, they don't matter to me, it's just someone's opinion.
ReplyDeleteI think when you reach the point in which most of your comments, and most of the comments that you've "liked" on this board, are about disliking a certain character, then yes, you are bashing the character.
ReplyDeleteAs I understood it, he really is dead, but could come back as a ghost sometimes.
ReplyDeleteNever as a human though.
I haven't been part of the SPN fandom since season 1, but I'm sure some of those issues are still around.
ReplyDeleteI feel like there are two different things here. There's repetitive criticisms of a storyline or show direction, and then there's repeated character bashing. Examples of the repetitive criticisms last year were about soulless Sam (hating him or not wanting him replaced by souled Sam because of the predicted emo/angst), about the angels (Cas included) needing to go, about Dean or Sam not having much of a story. This year it's again about the quality of Sam or Dean's stories, and about the death or return of Cas. There's nothing wrong with discussion on these topics, but if the same thing is repeated over and over, then it gets hard to listen to by people who are on the opposite side of the issue.
The second thing is the character bashing. This to me is more frustrating because it just goes around in vicious circle. Some Dean fans bash Sam because they're jealous of Sam's mytharc storyline. Some Sam fans bash Cas because they see him as a threat. Some Cas fans retaliate by bashing Sam. Some Sam fans bash Dean because they see Dean getting all of POV in the story.
But you're right, in both cases, all you can do is ignore what bugs you try to be self-aware about your own behavior.
I'm not happy this poll was made either. I find it frustrating how divided the Supernatural fanbase is, and this is just adding fuel to the fire.
ReplyDeleteNo more "idjit"? That's sad.
ReplyDeleteJohn, Ellen, Jo, Gabriel/the trickster, Rufus ... It's getting a little cramped in spn good guys paradise :-/
Hello DarkUfo,
ReplyDeleteI post this again by responding to you as you seem to be the person behind all spoiler tv polls (thanks for that, I'm a sucker for polls)
I think spn spoilertv fandom need a poll generating positive answers.
PS: I don't know how the poll thing work so I hope I'm not saying something stupid, unrealistic or inappropriate
Maybe doing a poll about our favorite villain would be less controversial?
We could also have a separate post/poll about or favorite scene for
each character, or what scene represent the quintessence of what we love
in that character?
The point being: in the Sam post/poll we talk about Sam favorite scene; in the dean post/poll we talk about dean favorite scene, etc.
People who don't like a character simply could avoid that character thread. This way we could share our love and avoid hurtful comment.
I would suggest doing that for Dean, Sam, Cas and Bobby as many fans expressed their regret he was not part of this poll.
What do you people think?
I think there is a difference between someone stating their opinion once in 9 different threads and stating their opinion 9 times in the same thread, especially if that person then states their opinion 9 times in the next one. Otherwise, I think you are right that if everyone stuck to the topic at hand instead of going off on overplayed tangents it would make things a lot better. Then people would know which threads to avoid instead of having to avoid Supernatural or SpoilerTV altogether.
ReplyDeleteWe usually have a wide variety of polls for Supernatural over the summer hellatus. Right now we will, with Andy's permission of course, be doing the ultimate episode bracket contest as well as a best song and best song-to-scene match. The last two had nomination rounds during the winter hiatus. As soon as season seven is finished, we will finish or nominations for best episode. I will add these suggestions to the list of polls the SpoilerTV SPN family would like to see.
ReplyDeleteYou may have a point. I'll add it to the list of grievances Supernatural fans have with the CW. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe did favorite one-shot villain last year, but we could do favorite villain overall this summer if you would like. Basically every midseason and summer hiatus, we do polls. Already we have done:
ReplyDeleteBest visceral death
Best emotional death
Best gory death
Ultimate death
Best 1-shot PiP
Best 1-shot antagonist
Favorite episode
Favorite angel (not including Castiel)
Favorite demon
Favorite human (not including Dean, Sam, or Bobby)
Favorite object (not including Metallicar)
Favorite other character
Favorite recurring character (not including Dean, Sam, Castiel, or Bobby)
----all the exceptions were to avoid character wars which make things unpleasant for everyone. Well, the Impala one was to keep it from being a landslide. And yes, that was the most controversial poll I've run so far.
We've also spotlighted fan vids, fan art, and fan fic. We've had guess who is going to die polls, polls about favorite scenes in specific episodes, and a poll asking about the demographics of SpoilerTV Supernatural fans. Last year we did a series of polls based on where an episode fell in the series, so all the premieres together, all the second episodes, etc. Since someone rightly pointed out that we couldn't come up with a true ultimate episode this way, we are re-running this poll next summer with a few major tweaks.
Basically, I have a list of SPN poll suggestions people have made and we run them during any major hiatus except when Adam is running a major whole site poll like the Best TV Show contest and the Favorite Character contest, both of which usually happen mid-summer. There will be no shortage of polls happening during hiatus, with Andy's permission of course (and probably other fun things too - looking at you Wilson for more urban legend updates).
I am always looking for more poll ideas because hellatus gets long and cranky if we don't have something to look forward to. Please feel free to add your suggestions for other poll ideas when we have our nominating polls. This way I won't miss any of your great ideas.
I love polls also, but the problem will be that for a Dean poll, some will complain that Dean gets every thing and then the same thing for each poll. Face it some people are just complainers.
ReplyDeleteI would have a hard time picking out a scene with just one of the characters in it.
I did not vote in this one today, I love them all.
Not looking forward to the season being over, but the polls will be fun.
ReplyDeleteNot fair, I did not find y'all in time for most of those polls, going into a corner to pout. ;)
ReplyDeleteWere we go again to this kind of polls. What is Spoiler Tv trying to prove? That Sam W is the character less loved? That If Jared P would leave the series and was replaced by Castiel that the generality of the fans would be happy? I never understood this lack of love for Sam and the SamHate! It's something that is way beyound me. Its saddens me to see Sam is 3rd place. The usual, but sad ...
ReplyDeleteHe should at least be in second. But at least most of the people who voted like Sam he's just not their favorite. I'm used to him not getting as much love which is kinda sad. He's WAY more interesting than Cas in my opinion. Sadly some of them do think Cas should replace Sam but they'll never get their wish. The Dean and Cas show would never work.
ReplyDeleteI am watching season one again and just noticed in Something Wicked that Sam's sideburns look just like they do today. I don't know what makes them look so different now, maybe because his hair is back and does not cover them up as much. Back then his hair was wavy and in his eyes, which I love, BTW.
ReplyDeleteDeanand Sam Than everyone else
ReplyDeleteI'm with numer0six! I joined the fandom just in time to vote for the PCAs and vote I did in between sobbing for Castiel, so whatever to you shadowhund. Stop bashing your fellow fans! :( It's not our fault Sam isn't getting the attention you want him to have.
ReplyDeleteDean ... What can I do is it but :D by too little and I don't see supernatural without the brothers, this doesn't exist. :(
ReplyDeleteELLEN HARVELLE.
ReplyDelete" Why couldn't the opinion be given in such a way it doesn't have to tear down other favorites"
ReplyDeleteBecause the Internet doesn't work that way.
I do think its sad the character deserves better. For me with all due respect to Dean and Castiel he is the best of the lot of them. The biggest heart , he doesnt hold grudges, stands up when he makes mistakes and had to live with a destiny he never asked for. I dont understand the fuss of Castiel and I certainly dont regard him as necessary to the show. The show is Sam and Dean with a few nice side dishes added now and again example Castiel but when they have had their time I expect them to move on. I am the same with whatever show I follow .This poll was designed to be what it was and the sentiments behind it are what they are.I dont find polls a yardstick to how a whole fandom feels just who bothers to vote. I think Sam deserves respect it wasnt his fault the sl,s he got given that was down to Eric and the writers.
ReplyDeleteCastiel with respect to him highlights more than any other character that has been on the show the hypocrisy and double standards in parts of the fandom who want fanfic to become canon on the show.
likewise :-D
ReplyDeleteImpressive work you do here. I didn't know that.
ReplyDeleteIt could be fun the do again some of the older polls. They are newcomers on the spoiler tv spn family like me, and it would be interesting to see if people opinion remain the same over time
I'm going to keep an eye on the polls threads from now on.
Thanks for your enlightening answer
I refuse to vote for this.
ReplyDeleteAt this moment, I love all the characters equally. Before I would have said Dean during most of the show, then Castiel during the last episodes of Season 6. But now I feel no extreme emotions for any character. I love them all the same.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I voted Castiel.
Why? Because people hate him. Gotta counteract the hate.
" Why do fans have to choose sides is it not allowed to love and appreciate all characters?"
ReplyDeleteThat just seems like a really ironic comment given how Casfans are being slammed in some of the replies here. We are allowed to have our favourite without being accused of being 'not proper fans'.
"The Dean and Cas show would never work."
ReplyDeleteIt would work fine for me.
I voted for Cas – which, by the way, doesn't make me 'not a true fan of the show'. But I think this poll is a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteThis "people" does not hate Cas, I am a huge fan of any of Misha's characters on SPN. Glad he will be coming back, hopefully to stay. Not only would it make me very happy, but just might keep the show around longer, if it can let my favorite brothers have a little break.
ReplyDeleteMany, many Casfans voted for the show to help get its TV Guide cover.
ReplyDeleteI voted against SPN in the PCA awards because I didn't think the show deserved the award on the strength of season 6 or the current season. The Walking Dead and Fringe were far more deserving in my opinion.
It doesn't always come down to what people think is 'wrong' with Supernatural – sometimes it is what people think other shows are doing *right* that makes the difference.
And again: I find your comment very ironic and disingenuous considering that on page 1 you say this:
ReplyDelete"is it not allowed to love and appreciate all characters?"
Yes it *is* allowed. That's precisely why some of us are voting for Castiel.
"Supporting characters on SN only show up for a handful of episodes "
ReplyDeleteCastiel was in three seasons of the show, meaning he was far more than just a supporting character who showed up for a handful of episodes. He also played an important role in the mytharc, which means he was far more than just a supporting character.
I think the fans hate Sam even more. This poll seems to prove that.
ReplyDeleteI did go ahead and vote for Castiel. He is my favorite character, and I'm so excited about his return. I love Sam and Dean a lot too though, and the show for me is better with all three of them, and Bobby who I also miss terribly.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am sure one of the nicest actors in the business who has given 7 yrs to this show would appreciate your sentiment Jared Padalecki.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Okay so we'll have Jensen playing off the non existent emotions of Castiel who is completely and utterly useless without his special powers. Cas doesn't even have a personality. Not to mention the fact that he's not a hunter and doesn't even have any compassion for humanity. Especially since all the Sam fans, bi bros and anti-Cas fans will stop watching probably not even leaving the show with less than a million viewers.
ReplyDeleteDean. Only watched the first 4 seasons though.
ReplyDeleteThe Supernatural fandom sickens me. I guess Dean is kind of understandable (tho I still like Sam more) but fucking Castiel?! FUCK YOU ALL.
ReplyDeleteCastiel is my favorite
ReplyDeleteSam!
ReplyDeleteI've been in love with Dean from the start, so he's always gonna be my #1, but I truly, entirely love Sammy as well, what would Dean be without Sam anyway? Sam is a huge part of why I love Dean to start with. Dean is a huge part of why I love Sam. They're only them when they're together. There is no one without the other. End of story.
ReplyDeleteBobby and Cas have been/were great additions to it, but it's always been about Sam and Dean.
sam and dean!! ...KILL CASTIEL (AGAIN) SAVE THE WORLD!!
ReplyDeleteMy Sammyboy :) Can´t understand he is behind Castiel!
ReplyDeleteSAM!
ReplyDeleteFolks, the results of this poll don't show that any of the characters are hated. It asks you to give votes to your favourite, not take votes from the one you hate the most.
ReplyDelete
