-Ratings Breakdown:
Despite airing repeats, CBS led in the Tuesday overnights with a 115 percent advantage over the distant No. 2 network, NBC. Next was ABC, followed by Fox and lowly The CW. Just two-tenths of a rating point separated NBC, ABC and Fox, which did not benefit from a revamped line-up of four live-action comedies.
Sophomore Raising Hope on Fox moved to 8 p.m. and finished fourth with a 3.3 rating/5 share. Comparably, that was 62 percent below the first-half of Glee on the year-ago evening (8.7/14 on 3/08/11). Next was the return of fall entry I Hate My Teenage Daughter, which dipped to a mere (and also fourth-place) 2.5/ 4 at 8:30 p.m. Compared to Raising Hope, that was a loss of 24 percent (in the higher HUT level time period, no less). New Girl rebounded with a second-place 4.3/ 7 at 9 p.m., but that was below average, and the second season-premiere of Breaking In did not breakout with a fourth-place 2.6/ 4 in the overnights at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, this was 10 percent below failed year-ago occupant Traffic Light (2.9/ 5 on 3/08/11).
Although New Girl is poised for time period dominance among adults 18-49, the rest of Fox’s new Tuesday line-up did not deliver.
The off-network value of the CBS crime solvers was apparent last night with encore telecasts of NCIS (8.6/14 - #1 for the evening), spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (7.5/12) and on the fence Unforgettable (5.9/10) first in each of the six half-hours. Had Unforgettable been on another network, chances of a second season would be greater.
Tired The Biggest Loser on NBC, which needs to be paired down to one hour next season, slid by 20 percent from the year-ago evening (5.1/ 8 on 3/08/11). The Biggest Loser averaged a 4.1/ 7 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows:
The Biggest Loser (NBC)
8:00 p.m.: 4.1/ 7 (#2)
8:30 p.m.: 4.0/ 6 (#2)
9:00 p.m.: 4.0/ 6 (#3)
9:30 p.m.: 4.3/ 7 (#2)
That led into 10 p.m. special, Decision 2012: Super Tuesday at a not so super 2.1/ 3 at 10 p.m. Needless to say, the news special finished a distant third in the time period.
Over at ABC, Cougar Town (#3: 3.2/ 5 at 8:30 p.m.) out of a repeat of Last man Standing (#3: 3.9/ 6 at 8 p.m.) had better retention this week at 82 percent. And it beat aforementioned I Hate My Teenage Daughter on Fox (#4: 2.5/ 4) by 28 percent. But week five of drama The River dropped to a 2.8/ 4 (#4) at 9 p.m., which was 22 percent below year-ago occupant V (3.6/ 6 on 3/08/11). A repeat of sophomore Body of Proof capped off the evening for ABC with a second-place 3.5/ 6 at 10 p.m.
As usual, The CW had nothing positive to report with its combination of 90210 (#5: 1.1/ 2) and freshman Ringer (#5: 1.0/ 2), which both should be concluding this spring.

Crap about The River and Raising Hope. Wonder how Cougar Town did.
ReplyDeleteAt least for the CW its +25% from last year.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty much everything except NCIS repeats were loosers? That's really kind of sad.
ReplyDeleteThat's hardly anything to be proud about.
ReplyDeleteI only watched New Girl and Breaking In at 9pm, I love New Girl but don't love Breaking In I only watched it cause of Megan Mulluly she was great and does crazy!funny really well lol. I don't really care about Raising Hope and Katy Perry made me dislike the show more. However, I caught the repeats of Last Man Standing and NCIS LA but was too tired to stay up for Body Of Proof.
ReplyDeleteHe shouldn't include CW shows in his commentary, given how they don't have the same kind of reach/audience as the other shows.
ReplyDeleteThis time last year CW was in repeats which delivered a 0.4 for OTH and 0.5 for Hellcats.
ReplyDeleteGoodbye Ringer, IHMTD, Breaking In, The River, BOP, Cougar Town, Unforgettable.
ReplyDelete:( to Raising Hope and Cougar Town damn
ReplyDeleteWish Raising Hope was doing better.
