Alaric seems to have a thing for people controlling him xD First Klaus, now this. That being said, I don't know if it is controlling him, or just making him crazy (like Meredith said).
And I'm loving the brothers relationship now, they seem to be getting back to being what they were before Katherine (though they'll never get completely there)
Wow, looks like Elena has 3 hunky guys and Matt liking her. Would be very interesting to get a Ric/Elena thing going. lol This is the first time I have even come close to liking Matt, nice job tonight.
Love Damon still trying to get Stefan on the right path, drink, don't kill.
Good return, and nice twist with the ring driving Ric batty... with the news that Matt Davis was cast in the lead of another show for CW, I wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Alaric....
Amazing episode! No Bonnie and I didn't miss her at all! Love the Elena and Matt scenes and was totally hoping it was Torrey Devitto who was the crazy lady. Rick =( that means Jeremy better get back to town cause he has died also a couple times (though not as many as Alaric). Also even though Julie Plec says no to Alaric/Elena (and so do I) I kind of picked up on some tension lol, he isn't just Uncle Alaric.
Is it too much to ask to get a Salvatore brother hug?! When the Winchesters hug it is so awesome (then again they ARE busy saving the world). Also wouldnt mind a Damon and Alaric hug but really we don't see Damon hug anyone.
I hope not because I really love Alaric and I want to see him continue to play Alaric until the series ends.
But at the same time he's a really good actor and I can understand that he would want to the opportunity to play the lead on his own show. I know I would definitely tune in. I just hope that they wait to see if the show actually gets picked up for the fall first before killing off his character and that if they do kill off his character that they write it well.
The one thing that I really liked was Elena's explanation to Matt for why she chose to be with Stefan because he would always love her and would never die like her parents did. And also how her feelings for Damon had just sort of snuck up on her and she couldn't get rid of them.
To me that just explained a whole lot more about her character and made the fact that she never shied away from Stefan even though he vampire (and all the issues and problems that came with him being a vampire) make a lot more sense.
Episodes like this make me question on why I am even sticking with this show till now.
The episode was pointless and mediocre. The only real purpose of it was to retcon out the rings(that have been the worst plot device for two seasons and there's not a person in fanbase who likes it) and introduce Sage(who is a major letdown).
Otherwise it was 40 minutes of Bella Elena Swan Gilbert strutting around alongside a bit cardboard box, doing absolutely nothing and being as personality-less as only Elena can be.
Brothers moments were decent but even they pretty much fellt very flatly written, giving us no new outlook into it all and just being used to fill the time.
What was the point of this episode? What has been the point of this season? I guess we will never know.
As the season of the fillers continues, I continue to weep for the lost potential of this show it had in its first season.
I think the reason that I usually vote for Dean over Damon is because he is human and has the faults we all have, but fights thru it. Dean so tough, but breaks my heart when a tear falls, but then I sobbed so much when Damon killed Rose.
Loved the episode. So glad the hiatus is over. I loved the Damon/Stefan scenes this time. And the talk between Matt and Elena, but I still don't think they work together as loveinterest at all. The Rick/Elena scenes was also my favorites. They way they trust each other is very cool. I am really looking forward to next episode
I agree. I'm usually quite hard on her in this regard - because I feel like Elena is way too desensitized. So her explanation did redeem her in my eyes. Although, I still don't feel like she admitted to any particular feelings for Damon. Is she in love or is she talking about platonic love?
However, I still take issue with how the scene came right after her seeing them terrorize an innocent woman.
Other that this scene, what a letdown. The episode was booooring. I saw "the twist" a mile away. The flashbacks were dull as dishwater too and the introduction of Sage underwhelming. Probably because they had already shown all her scenes in the promos!
I thought the episode was boring as hell too! Thankfully, I didn't buy into the hype so my expectations weren't high. And it still fell short, lol.
Usually, I agree that Stefan/Damon scenes are better than when Elena is part of the equation but in this case, I disagree. I'm honestly tired of Damon being on Stefan's case regarding blood. We SAW that Stefan had it under control before Klaus got him totally hooked, so why this whole "moderation" crap? And why test it out on humans when they've been pilfering the blood banks for ages? It only served the purpose of making Damon the "good guy" or "bad guy" depending on how you want to view it. Is he the good brother just trying to help his brother out? Or is he the bad brother who got his brother hooked on blood. Again. And of course, Elena had to see it. Once again, it becomes a ploy to drive the triangle. I honestly wish they would stop writing plot devices just to serve the damn triangle - and instead let the triangle organically be the result/consequences of the plots. In short, I wish Stefan's blood lust was about Stefan and not just a plot device for Stelena/Delena.
Finally getting around to watching! I love the parallels that they drew to 1912 with the council member killings. And it's always so strange to see Damon as the one that resents who he is, even if that did kind of change when Sage came into the picture. It's easy to forget that Stefan is on some level responsible for the person Damon has become. They had some great brother moments in this episode, though :)
At least they tried to make Matt matter this week by letting him play super sleuth with Elena. Poor kid. I wonder if it's too little too late? Will he be one of the fatalities by the end of the season?
I kind of love that Damon's back to being an ass haha.. I missed his snark! It was tainted or something while he was mooning after Elena. I'm also glad he didn't revert to massacring the town or something - they talked about how his character was going to regress, but I'm glad it wasn't to the extreme.
I think I expected them to spend more time in 1912. I know there was stuff to deal with in the present, but I guess I went in with different expectations. Loved Cassidy Freeman, though!
I figure I'm likely in the minority but I really enjoyed he Matt/Elena scenes; just them being friends. However, my huge Huge HUGE question. Do the teens of the 21st Century NOT watch mysteries and spy movies? You break into someone's place, find info that needs perusing and...instead of taking it to read someplace safe, or using your, ever present, cell to snap pictures so you can take the stuff and READ IT SOMEPLACE SAFE. They just *sit* there...like they've received notice that the person is on another continent for a few weeks and there's no rush. Sigh. I thought it as bad when the kid on Teen Wolf kept taking the time to do google searches while "sneakily" investigating stuff. The one saving grace of the moment was the Sheriff acknowledging that she couldn't use any of the information because it was illegally obtained.
Honestly, I could have done with out the flashbacks. Sorry. I just didn't feel like they got as much use out of them as they could have. It felt like we could have gotten all that info (which really only came down to...'hi my name is Sage', 'oh hey the Gilbert chick had been killed before she confessed maybe she had the family ring' and Damon's 'I have to help you now because I didn't help you then' speech) in about half the time those scenes took up.
The 'why are you helping me' beat would have worked for me in season one but now, after the the wound that speech referred to has been healed since season two when Stefan finally apologized. This just fell flat.
I liked Sage's introduction (not so much the vampire philosophy) but just the fact that she's in a boxing ring and so completely NOT a 1912 kinda gal.
I hope the ring/insanity story heralds the return of Jeremy. Speaking of which....that reveal....was both a tad dorky (I love soaps and split personality stories run rampant...and I dorkily love them) and kinda awesome! I just loved it....:-D so...yeah...this ring keeps you from dying a supernatural death but, you use it to much it'll start hurting more...and if that hint doesn't get you to move to that town Jeremy's living in now...it'll turn you into a serial killer. Weeee!
I guess Alaric going crazy probably all started when he took forever to come back to life after he got run over...I was wondering why that seemed so different
Excellent point, though I think it's more possession then crazy, as both times this has happened, Council members have been murdered. Shows a pattern/motive.
I sort of think the point about Damon getting him to drink human blood was more about showing him he can do it without going all "ripper" and killing every time. I do agree about how it shouldn't be a plot device for the different ships.
I liked the episode, even when I expected something more shocking after the hiatus. The characters that were absent were very much missed, specially Caroline and Klaus, all the originals brother really.
Its interesting that the ring has its "consequences" but I am sad that this plot can kill Alaric. I love the Damon/Ric bromance too much. And LOL at Sage having a thing for Finn! :P Does it mean he is gonna come back? I know he is the less loved original brother, but I think it would be interesting to know him better and his background.
Uh, way too sappy for me. No real main story and too many characters sitting around talking about their feelings. At least the final 5 minutes were interesting.
"Dear Diary, a squirrel asked me my name today, I said Joe, that lie will haunt me for the rest of my life." LMFAO Damon had me cracking up!!! Then Stefan with his 'ok, i'm freaking out, I wanna eat the entire wait staff" Hahahahahaha, too funny!!!! Awww man both those scenes made my stomach hurt.....okkk now about the episode, 10 10 10!!!! I loved it!!! Loved the flashbacks! I was very pleased with Stefan's first Decapitation scene, I didn't think they'd show that. I already knew Meredith was to be trusted (books hello) BUT I still wanted to punch her when she was talking to Elena like that, lol. From beginning to end this episode had a more serious tone and and I loved that. Matt and Elena bonding getting down to business, Elena using her "smarts" to find the skeleton in the closet, and let's give it up for Matt Donovan!! The man who is never afraid to say what he thinks and feels, hitting Elena like a ton of bricks with "ONCE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN EVER SHAKE THEM" YES YES YES!!! I SMILED LIKE A FOOL!!! IDC that she didn't agree, of course she won't it's not time yet, but just the fact that she sat there and thought about what Matt said is good enough for me!! (My delena heart) And then Damon's Confession with Stefan, thud!! Heart melted!! I'm not Team Salvatore but I thought that was a real nice moment, reminded me of the books and let me add that Damon did absolutely NOTHING wrong 2nite with trying to help Stefan Detox!! Actually Elena pissed me off with her "Shocked" reaction, wtf was that?? Really Elena??? Ugh!!! Moving on.....ok onto Alaric, Honestly I can't say i'm completely surprised by it, i'm very interested in the ring more, and as soon as Meredith revealed it was Alaric my first thought was O shit!!! WHAT ABOUT JEREMY?? NEXT WEEK LOOKS REAL FREAKING GOODDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!! Can we get my Delena back on track please before this season is over??? Damn do I love this show!!!
I agree with this. Season had been pretty aimless so far, with no consistent flow to tie up the plot lines. It's as if the writers just threw all of the ideas together, filmed it all and hoped something will impress the viewers.
As for Damon, you're right that she didn't seem to admit to any particular feelings for Damon, but I think that the reason for that is that she doesn't even know what her feelings are for him at this point. I think that her lingering feelings for Stefan-as well as Damon's immoral past actions and other behavior, as well as her knowledge of his feelings for her-have delayed her from sifting through her feelings and figuring out exactly how she feels about him now.
And I think that Elena might not have been able to have been so honest with herself if she hadn't seen them terrorizing an innocent woman. If Matt had asked at another time it might have been easier to just look at the good memories of Stefan or Damon, but with such a visceral example of what exactly vampires are and what they do right before Matt asked, I think that it forced Elena to be honest with her about why she feelings for Stefan and possibly Damon.

Epic! So happy that the hiatus is over! =)
ReplyDeleteNext episode should be really interesting. Let the crazy possession begin!
ReplyDeleteAlaric seems to have a thing for people controlling him xD

I also was waiting for that brother hug.
AHHHH, speak for yourself, I do like the rings. If I am bored with a show, Bones, The River, Terra Nova, I stopped watching them.

Nice twist with Alaric. Great bonding scenes for the brothers. I really thought there are going to be more flashbacks.
