Awesome episode. Not quite as great as the pilot, but I would have been fine with this episode serving as this season's finale (because if the show doesn't get renewed, Rex's good-bye message serves as the perfect emotional bookend to the series (at least for his character) and his world, and it actually made me feel okay about the possibility of Rex's world being the dream world).
I thought the episode was okay. The solution was too easy, with parallel situations in both worlds, and the fact that RedCooper knew about the place in the desert and how quickly Michael's former partner was caught felt rushed to me. I was also expecting at least some progression on the big reveal about Captain Harper last week, but this was a pure stand alone episode. Entertaining enough, but not what I expect from this show.
Despite figuring out that Michael's ex partner was the killer really early on I still liked the episode, it handles the relationships so well. In some shows you can dread the at home family scenes but they are my favourite parts of Awake
I figured out the "mystery" pretty quick but it didn't bug me. Over all great episode.
I have to be honest: Objectivelly speaking I think all the signs point to the "Red" world being real, especially with how the stories are set up and resolved. But, personally, I still quite desperatelly want the "Green" to be the actual reality.
Nice solid episode, but as Starg8fans says it was pretty much purely standalone.
I'm not convinced 'red' is the 'real' world any more than 'blue' is. I'm still attracted to the idea that there is a third world where both Rex and Hannah (and maybe even Britten himself) are dead.
Not much really jumped out at me this week. I didn't catch any more instances of 611, but then I forgot to look. The only thing that really got me thinking this week was when Jim(?) said "none of this is real". It felt slightly off. I know he was just trying to suggest that Britten was not thinking straight due to losing his son and having to see a shrink, but even so, it felt kind of out of place. As though he knows something about whatever it was that Harper was referring to in episode 2.
Can't wait to see how that all pans out.
I liked the way there was actually a direct relation between the cases this week*. I find it much more realistic than the previous episodes where there hadn't really been any suggestion that the same cases/crimes exist in both worlds, when of course they should. And if he solves a case in one world, he should at least tip-off the people dealing with the same crime in the other world, even if he's on a different case in that world.
*although that might well just be because the Cooper case directly invloves Britten.
I think that what is an awesome concept would have featured much better as a film as opposed to a TV series. The first episode was excellent as the psychologists really got you thinking about what was happening to him, which reality was real etc.
With the end of the second episode, it's all a conspiracy and so a lot of the psychological aspects that were so fascinating now seem null and void.
And the procedural crime-solving element isn't doing it for me.
I'll keep watching for a couple of episodes more, but I'm finding it a bit repetitive and boring now that its lost that edge.
I'm the other way round. I'm not really too fussed about the psychologists. (They are each assuming theirs is the real world and that the other world is a dream - so either one or both of them is wrong) and I really want to see more of the conspiracy side of things. That is where things could start getting juicy, theory-wise.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I thought Rex was going to be as obnoxious as Jack Shephard's David, but this episode changed my mind. Ah, a rounded teenage boy character.
ReplyDeleteOverall, a fantastic episode.

ReplyDeleteI love the twist of the show!
