Casting is already underway for Season 5 of The Mentalist. They are casting a new recurring female role who will be a potential love interest for Patrick Jane called Loralei

    I love the idea.
    Discovering how Jane act in a romantic relationship will be fun. Plus he will be all angst and culpability because in his head, he is still married to his dead wife.
    A lot of mentalist fans are Jane/lisbon shipper; there are not going to be happy. Don't fera shippers, it wont last long. I don't see Jane having a happy romantic life until Red John is dead. Or maybe red john will take care of the lady. He is quite obsessive about jane.

    Actualy I'm glad that maybe isn't his first real try after his wife.  He needs to find his romantic feet again and I think that Lisbon is end game, not the rebound.  Even if the rebound is approximately 9 years after the death of his wife.

    Disagree. I'm a shipper (a big shipper!) and I'm happy about the news. It's about time for Jane moving on. With Lisbon or some other woman doesn't matter. Honestly? Lisbon and Jane are friends for 9 years now and I don't think that's going to change (if it will ever change) until both of them get a new insight of their friendly relationship and what's better with a new love interest (and please, I don't mean jealousy, that would be too much of a cliche). But sometimes you "see" things differently when you take a step back.

    If his love interest is able to push Jane to be more open and see things about his wife or widower life with different eyes then she will be more than welcome in season 5. I hope Jane will be able to close some chapters in his life with or without Red John still in the backgroud.

    The name is AWFUL. Otherwise, I'm open-minded. As long as she isn't a killer like Erica Flynn or a shriveled spinster like Kristina Frye- I'm good.

    I'm okay with it but I so hoped and wished that in season 5 it would be finally Lisbon who got more than a one night stand. Instead I assume she will be "the jealous one". :(

    The only thing not cool with this spoiler is people harassing with threats the writers. 

    Shipping.. could be a great thing if done with caution.. but it also could lead to a spectacular sinking and could take away the original fun that one had of the show  :/

    As long as she isn't annoying like the previous "love interests" and doesn't steal all the screen time, I'm ok with this. I think...

    I'm more worried what they're going to do with Lisbon. I'll punch something if they make her act "jealous" again. She's the only one of the team who doesn't have any kind of own storyline. Even Van Pelt had the O'Laughlin thing...

    Also, some speculation :D Loralei=Lorelei from the legend? Who killed herself and who's spirit seeks revenge against her lover and lures men with her singing/beauty to their death? Nice.

    Finally! I love Jane and Lisbon but I knew that Jane needed another love interest at some point. It's the whole "moving on" thing.

    I wish they would give Lisbon a real boyfriend, I'm shocked Jane is getting a real love interest before her to be honest.

    BTW, my comment about the shippers wasn't in any way derogative, I hope you didn't take it bad.
    The way I see it, Lisbon could be in love with Jane, but Jane just see her as a friend; and Lisbon is repressing her feelings so hard. I don't see that relationship evolving in a near future.
    And Yes, please no jealousy. I'm sick of that attitude.Jealousy has nothing to do with love. Jealousy has to do with possessiveness and lack of self-confidence.

     I don't know- personally I wouldn't drown the writers in tweets, but I don't share the opinion that fans who tell the authors what they think about the show are harassing anybody- even if their opinion is extremely emotional. Those are professionals, for god's sake, so they should well be able to suck it up if people don't like what they're doing.
    For every shipper, there is one who hates any shipping, for every J/L-fanatic who writes 40 tweets about Jane's big bad love interest, there is someone who has to write 40 answering tweets in which he says how absolutely WONDERFUL and infallible the genius writers are, just so they don't feel harassed...both is annoying. We had it all with 4.15.
    We're all fans of the same show, and we shouldn't battle each other when we like different aspects of what we're watching. In the end, the writers will do what they feel is right...and no matter what they're doing, there will always be people who don't agree with them. That's normal. It's not harassement. It's called "different opinions", and professional (screen)writers deal with it every day.
    Sorry if I'm rambling, but I'm fed up with the shipper/non-shipper-war...it takes grotesque dimensions sometimes...

    I'm sorry too. I didn't want to offend you. Sometimes I'm overreacting when I think all the non-shipper put us shippers in the same pot and we have to be unhappy seeing Jane with another woman than Lisbon. I apologize.

    I don't think Lisbon is in love with Jane (or maybe she don't know it) but it's cleary not a brother/sister relationship. After so many years without being with a partner on both sides (I don't count 1 one-night-stand in 9 years) they are too focused on each that a little break will do them good.
    And I'm the same opinion that there is no relationship in a near future (and I'm not going to cry/scream if it will never happen.. maybe I will be a little sad :) that's all)
    After all its still a "potential" love interest. Frye too was a "potential" love interest *urg*. I didn't saw any sparks between them. Hope we see something more this time.
    But WHAT the hell... Loralei... really?  What have they been drinking. Whiskey while discussing her name? :-)

    I understand and agree that the writers ARE professionals and have to handle every opinion there is, however, that doesn't excuse someone from being rude or disrespectful, and I've seen both, several times, in several languages (btw, insulting the writers in a language people *know* the writers don't speak, it's even worse, I'm not talking fans speaking among themselves in diff languages, fans purposely insulting them not in English O.O). You can disagree and show your "different opinion" without have to be a troll, but then maybe even ALL THIS we're talking is a matter opinion as well, lol! we might not agree. That's OK :)
    Ohh you are right, shippers wars ARE unbelievable! It happens in every frigging fandom.. Don't have to be sorry, rant all you want, I'm fed up as well with the shipper/non-shipper, every extreme is sometimes unreasonable, that's why in this particular fandom I decided not to be on one of those sides and not participate as much. If you're neutral, you enjoy if they get together as well as if they don't. Simple. And I *know*, because I've been in both side of the fences and it CAN take away the original enjoyment you have of the show.

    I was indeed generalizing and I am usually careful not to do that as I
    hate it.

    About Fry; I Didn't saw spark either, but I loved her character and the episodes she was in.
    First, in season one, Jane butting head with her because she was reminding him of his own past.
    Then Patrick crumbling in the restaurant restroom. A reminder that he was still very traumatized by his family murder.

    And finally, Red John kidnapping and the deliciously cruel and
    innovative way he dealt with her. And Jane rage and impotence when he
    understood what RJ did.
    Loved those episodes.
    She is like a walking dead now (minus the need of eating flesh thing) ;-)

     Agree, the fandom come in many flavor.

    My favorite mentalist dessert is "non-shipper,/love RJ arc with a good dose of Jane angst" mixed flavors :-)

    But I'm totally ok with the shippers or the fans who want RJ out of the show ...

    If you like red and I like blue; what would be the point of arguing? If I  tried to convince you that  "loving blue is way better"; or that "the only logical choice is blue" or saying "why in hell do you hate blue ..." That would be totally stupid :-D
    It's of course a metaphor of the shipper/non-shipper war. I put both of them in the same "stupid" basket.

     Maybe it will progress nonetheless- Loralei won't be there forever, and maybe their relationship changes something between Jane and Lisbon...maybe the affair with Loralei ends bad? Everything is pretty much open here...

    If Jane get a lover....she's probably sent from Red John.

    I think his breakdown is a trap to catch Red John, if they fail the show will continue with another season.
    If they do catch him...well, it was a good show =)

    it's not like the producers can have Jane and Lisbon together until near the end of the show, so they'll probably wait until the episode where Red John is killed or 1/2 episodes previous to that for Jisbon
