Lost Girl - Decision on whether Season 3 will be 13 or 22 episodes expected this month

2 Mar 2012

A decision is expected sometime this month on whether Lost Girl season 3 will be 13 or 22 episodes so the season arc can be mapped out according to the length of the season.
The new character Tamsin will also be a regular in Season 3 and Vex may also be promoted to a regular.

  1. Does not matter to me, I have already left the show..the sidekick is just way to stupid and annoying.

  2. interesting opinion she seems to be most people's favourite character

  3. Please make it 13. This season has been all over the place because of the 22 episodes and the writers clearly can't map out 22 episodes successfully. I'd rather have 13 tight episodes. Oh and hell yeah on Vex being a regular!

  4. yeah but this season they planned the season for 13 episodes then suddenly got a back 9 and had a messy transition. It might work out better if they know they have 22 from the start
Personally hate long Lost Girl hiatuses so hoping for 22

  5. Crossing my fingers for 13.
The show didn't have the strongest season arc even when it was 13 episodes and has stumbled significantly trying to stretch it out to 22 this season. I prefer tighter scripts with stronger mythology over more episodes.

  6. She is definitely most people's favourite.

  7. Ha, I typed almost the exact same message as you without even realizing it. I'm not sure about Vex though. He's one of those over-the-top characters that is great as a recurring but when they try to force someone in, it sometimes takes away the fun.

  8. Way too many regular characters. We've had 6 for 2 seasons and they've barely had any development (other than Bo). I'm all for 22 episodes if it is known while they are still in pre-production.

  9. Interesting considering she might just be the most popular character on the show.

  10. I REALLY hope it's 22. I like long seasons. I'm not pleased with the fact that Vex might become a regular. He's

  11. She's ONE of the most popular but the most popular is by far Lauren/Zoie Palmer.

  12. I know, that is the beauty of having so many shows to pick from, life is just to short to watch what I call stupid. lol

  13. WTF. I enjoy watching VEX but I don't expect him to be a regular character. Now they want to add Tasmin too. My gosh too many characters of the shows, this may kill the fun.

  14. How far did you get into the series? I didn't like her at first, but after a few episodes, they really find the character.

  15. I'm hoping for 22 with more planning. I won't say that the back nine haven't been a little shaky, but no reason not to support more Lost Girl rather than less. A 13-episode season is a long, long time without any new Lost Girl. Heck, just this last week has been hard for me.

It would be a huge loss of confidence decision if we go from a 22-episode season 2 to only a 13-episode season 3. I for one still have faith that the whole production team can pull together a great season 3 (I think the last couple of episodes are going to redeem season 2 also).

  16. Maybe they will flesh him out and make him less of a kinky puppetmaster caricature?

    ReplyDelete
  17. The last one I watched was where they were bitten by the spider and even dying she is up meddling.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I hope they will go with 22 eps. If they will make the decision sooner than last year, everything should be ok :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I recommend you give it another shot :P
    Kensi grows on you :P

  20. I think you are confusing the spider one and the foot soup one. Regardless, if you don't like Kenzi by now, you probably never will. I'd suggest you might come to tolerate her as comic relief, but it sounds like you don't like the show. The characters mellow out in season 2--they are more comfortable in their skin--so you might consider picking it up again later.

    ReplyDelete
  21.  Didn't she win a Gemini for her portrayal of Kenzi?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'll go with 13 episodes,please!

  23. Although the prospect of Vex becoming a regular is good to see, I'm not sure I'm in favor of another 22 episode season if we're going to get more filler episodes similar to this season's "Mirror, Mirror."

    ReplyDelete
  24. Gasp!! Harsh harsh.

    1) Mirror Mirror was awesome--haven't you ever played a rousing game of frying pan to the head?
    2) It wasn't filler. It was the episode that reconciled Bo/Kenzi with Dyson. Which I think was pretty important.
    3) If we are ditching silly go nowhere episodes I'm voting for Table for Fae

  25. LOL, what like a wart. ;)   I have been reading about it and the Vex character looks like someone I would like.  Did not know it had been on 3 years, it just started in USA and I got thru ep 7.  Will give this week a shot and she has a looooong way to go for me to like her, but I do enjoy everyone else and that is the only reason I stayed with it.  Maybe I can get converted.

    ReplyDelete
  26.  I almost completely about "Table for Fae" (the Kenzi / Morrigan conversation was good) but I remain unchanged about "Mirror, Mirror."  The Bo/Kenzi/Dyson subplot may have been somewhat important but I don't prioritize importance over entertainment value.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I like the show, just not that character, but am going to give Vex a shot this week, he should interesting.  Does she get any less annoying, her character is just to stupid to be in the gene pool. ;)  They spend most of their time trying to save her.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh differences of opinion! Mirror Mirror is one of my favorite season 2 episodes, on pure entertainment value and mad Kenzi love. Did you not like Original Skin either?

    ReplyDelete
  29.  For a filler episode, Original Skin was great.  Both Solo and KHR were great in their consciousness swapping roles.  The weak performance in that episode was probably Anna Silk and her terrible southern accent.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well plot-wise someone needs saving in most every episode and odds are it is going to be one of the team with Kenzi or Bo taking the lion's share of slip ups. Sidekicks usually get the "silly mistake" problems and main characters get the "in over your head" problems.

Kenzi is the streetwise one, she's warier than Bo who trusts too easily, and she is good with figuring out criminal-type mysteries. She doesn't really loose her boundary issues, so if that is something you don't like about her, I don't think she'll grow on you. She is the little sister character and a lot of traits go along with that.

Vex definitely has his moments. And this week's episode is most people's favorite of the whole series (and Kenzi doesn't need saving once).

    ReplyDelete
  31. LOL, maybe that is why I did not like Buffy's sister either, but at least she was not needing saving every eps and so far that is all I am seeing thru 7 eps.   I will try and see her as a little sis and see if that works.  thanks because I do like all the rest of the show.

  32. I would much prefer 13 episodes in Season 3!

Season 2 was filled with meaningless and sub-par episodes, half of which could have been eliminated to make a fairly tight and more meaningful 13-episode Season 2. If they have learned from their mistakes maybe a 22-episode Season 3 could be good. Seriously though, when have TV executives ever learned from their mistakes?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Mirror, Mirror was terrible.. .agreed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm not a Kenzi fan either, she tries to hard to be quirky and cool. The exact type of person I try to avoid in my life....

That said, I still watch the show and enjoy it for the most part. It certainly is no longer on my Must Watch List though.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lauren is my least favorite by far honestly. Never got the love for her...

Good to know I don't fall in line with the majority's opinion... I would be worried if I did! XD

    ReplyDelete
  36. She went from being fun and quirky to me to being tiresome and annoying in Season 2.

Then again I rarely like the annoying comic-relief sidekicks on any show.

    ReplyDelete
  37.  I don't mind filler episodes if they adhere to my one rule:

Filler episodes that don't advance a show's mythology or ongoing plot should be heavily character based.  The episode should be used to deepen an individual character's backstory or the audience's understanding of said character.  Very few Lost Girl filler episodes have done that.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'd like to see the team back together again and if that takes 22 eps I'm k w/ that.

    ReplyDelete
  39.  Thanks for the reality check, Mandav.  With so many shows on the bubble and getting canceled lately it probably seems a bit silly to nitpick over how many episodes we get.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think you're right that character-based filler episodes are the best and actually add something to the series.

I'm just not sure we need so many character-based episode to fill out a 22-episode season. I'd rather have maybe 2 or 3 well executed filler episodes in a 13-episode season than 10 or more in a 22-episode season.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Your "less is more" preference is completely understandable.  I will, however, paraphrase what I mentioned to Mandav in my post below and say that considering all the bubble shows and impending cancellations I'm a little less inclined to nitpick the size of series pickups and just be grateful a show I watch received one.

  42. I think it is a fallacy to assume that if the season were only 13 episodes every one would be a winner and there wouldn't be any COTW/filler episodes. The first 13 of season 2 had plenty of filler, and if that's all there was, we'd be waiting until September to see our favorite characters and find out what happens. The first half didn't even scratch the surface of the season's big bad. They only thought they were going to have a 13-episode season, so that is what you could expect for a 13-episode season 3. Having a 13-episode season doesn't mean that they will only produce and air the ones that you really like. It does mean that if there are a few ones you don't like thrown in, they take up a larger percentage of the season.

The sophomore season is hard for most shows. Hopefully they will get their feet back under them and have a more structured plan for season 3. If they know ahead of time that they have ~22 hours to work with instead of ~13, maybe they can create a complex and detailed mythology to develop.

  43. LOL I agree. I thought her eyes were going to pop out of her head. But I'd be wary of saying it, her face base is very protective. xD

  44. I though "Mask" was a filler for an episode, but brought something new for the characters. If I was a series writer I would prob experiment with new ideas till they all eventually evolved into the characters final showdown. At least in my reading I notice many successful authors evolve some great cliffhangers into a greatly written finale. Notice the second season for LG took ideas from the previous and furthered the cliffhangers. Hopefully the new characters will be just as creative and interesting in the third season.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Good luck! Try not to picture Dawn though, Kenzi will be tried and executed by association. xD

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am going to try a couple more eps, but it has never been on my Must Watch.  I really only have a few of those, SPN, TVD, Revenge & Person of Interest.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 1.08 is an amazing episode and actually kinda Kenzi light

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anna SIlk's perfomance was totally made up for by Michael Cram playing "Bo" though.  And if we're going with meh, filler episodes I'd say "Fae Gone Wild" (with the exception of finding out what was in the box

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yeah, as I recall that was one of the things KHR said was the problem with the Dyson/Bo storyline.  The writers had only panned for 13 episodes and then it got changed on them so they had to scramble.

    ReplyDelete
  50. But then it won't be Vex.....kidding.  I actually wouldn't mind him becoming one of thse characters you hate but you still have to work with.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love Vex. He is a bit cheeky underneath the creepy giggles. Plus I love his haircut =)

    ReplyDelete
  52. That is good, will give it a try.  I spent the last few eps just saying don't save her, let her die. lol  Then I find out it is in the 3rd season, so wasted thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think once they started pairing Hale and Kensi up (not in relationship) Kensi started becoming more bareable, and one day I realised I didn't hate her character anymore xD
Now days I actually enjoy her though her interactions with Dyson, Bo, Hale, Trick etc.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Proof Hale makes everything better.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Another reason not to kill him or send him away!

    ReplyDelete
  56. OK, I give up, y'all have talked me into it and I WILL keep an open mind where she is concerned. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Maybe I don't understand how we are defining "filler." Is it any episode that doesn't develop the "big bad" plot? Because Mask was pretty important on the saving Nadia front and setting up Lauren for a continued life of servitude and pissing Bo off enough for her to go after Lachlan.

But filler or overarching plot line episode doesn't guarantee that it is good. The genie/lamp one wasn't my fave, but it was important.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I guess that ep left the typical ep formula for LG and had a D&D quest feel to it. I think they could have introduced Nadia earlier in season w/o the quest, but the ep brought some new ideas to the characters.

  59. I totally agree!!!!!!!!!! :)
