I don't think anyone would have expected that before it aired, it was considered DOA, not a fan of it myself but good to see a genre show get past its first season, rare these days
I don't know what to think of this show. I'd like to give it a try but It seems like supernatural without the brothers, the metallicar ands the awkard angel.
Is it just a monster of the week show or does it have some mythology?
The procedural model is pretty strong, but there's some slow-and-steady mythology-building happening. I think they'll be getting into more in the rest of this season.
Really? I do watch but I did not really expect a second season. Cool I guess (although I do wish Nick would learn some fighting skills or something for next season.)
YAY for Grimm,Yay for NBC,that is one way to start climbing out of that dark hole they have been in.Lets hope we have more quality shows coming to NBC...
I really tried getting into this show but just couldn't keep watching - which is odd because it's really my type of show. I'm going to give it another chance now that it's been renewed.
There is not a lot of week to week serialized story elements, but each week we learn more about this world the lead character Nick is just discovering. It is mostly a procedural taking place in a world that consists of the shows mythology. If that makes sense.
Good news for fans i think. I only care about Awake, Parks And Recreation and Community from this channel. Tried to get into it, but darn, Grimm has one of the most boring male leads ever in a series. It`s like they got him out of a catalouge or a factory something.
I thought it would be better than most thought going in, but still considered it unlikely to be renewed. After watching it I was surprised that it was actually better than I expected and I thought it might have a chance.
I'm glad NBC chose to renew it. Not because I love the series or I think its numbers will improve i na second season. Mostly because I think NBC needs to have a core of "solid" shows they can renew for a year or two that will allow them to concentrate on less pilots of a higher quality.
Hopefully Harry's Law is next to be renewed despite skewing old.
Really happy to see this. It has room for improvement but it's a show that's grown every week and with a second season I have a hunch it'll find its stride. Far too often freshman shows are never given a chance to get that first year of finding their feet. I almost wish pilot contracts would include a 2-year airing agreement short of abysmal ratings.
I think it is definitely a monster of the week show with some mythology elements. They've been extremely light handed with the mythology of the show (but for some reason their pacing isn't as annoying for me as Alcatraz.)
Actually, now that you've put Supernatural in my head...I recall that Supernatural's first season was heavily monster of the week and really light sprinkles of the mythology. They didn't really start to get into their mythology until near the end of heir first season. Perhaps this is what we can expect from Grimm?
Gotta give thanks for Fox giving fringe a six week from November 25th to January 13th then a current 3 week hiatus which ends today for fringe returns next week with a new episode while grimm returns on the 30th.
If it wasnt for the six week hiatus and current three week hiatus grimm wouldnt of had a slim chance of renewal.
Fox you make lots of stupid choice like cancelling good shows like 24 and Terra Nova but you sure helped grimm getting its renewal from fringes hiatus which i hate them for doing that and now cant wait for the remaining 8 episodes to air back to back
You're right about SPN having a lot of MOTW in his first season. The core of SPN mythology was there from the beginning, but, as a recall, it wasn't heavy-handed.
SPN had the advantage of having two charismatic and gorgeous lead actors though ... not to mention the handsome missing dad ;-)
What is also very specific to SPN is the fact that Dean and Sam are ordinary lower class people.
I think it would have been a more interesting premise if Grimm heroes had to struggle to fulfill his special role without the advantage of being a cop. A lot of tv shows have already cops or doctors or lawyers for heroes ... Sometimes I wonder if they are others jobs in the USA :-D
I must be way out of touch with television right now and what people like and don't like. I lasted at least 8 episodes and found the main character to be quite boring, without a clue and generally the storyline was dull and for this to be given a second season means that I have completely lost touch with reality or is it fantasy? Either way I am shocked and disappointed. There are other shows out there that I would have liked to be renewed in advance of this show. Oh well obviously I'm in the minority.
Loved 24 but It had run its course. IMO, Terra Nova was simply not good enough. The characters were one-dimensional. The main vilain was cartoon like, and the plot was predictible. The writing team failed on that one. Pity the premise of the show was great.
"Sometimes I wonder if they are others jobs in the USA :-D"
You LOL....I have variations on this riff that I was spare you. But...you made me laugh.
I'm okay with Nick being a cop. It's an element of the show that allows him to approach his job as Grimm in a very different way than his forefathers. And that seems like an element that will carry more importance deeper in the mythology we get. Plus we get to avoid a couple of cliches. (i.e. the hero accused of murder when it was the hero's only just choice but they can't reveal the truth.)
Speaking of cliches... given that he is a cop, I find it refreshing that Nick works with the his partner rather than sneaking off alone all the time. He's not making up ridiculous lies so he can go Grimvestigate. He just doesn't hand out unnecessary details. We don't have those annoying scenes where Nick is contorting himself to protect a partner who gets into trouble because he doesn't have all the facts.
Whoohoo!!! I'm so so so so happy to hear that Grimm is renewed for a 2nd season !!! :D After Supernatural, Grimm is one of the best shows i watch these days! ( well Grimm and Once Upon A Time :P) So yeah...*happy dance* People you should def give it a chance!

ReplyDeleteI wonder if NBC will renew more shows, soon. I'm glad the networks are finally starting the early renewal process!

Anyway, renewal is good news for Grimm fans :-)

ReplyDeleteHooray for Grimm fans, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteReally? I do watch but I did not really expect a second season. Cool I guess (although I do wish Nick would learn some fighting skills or something for next season.)
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic news. Grimm is definitely one of my new favorite shows!
ReplyDeleteWow. That was a quick answer. Thanks :-)
ReplyDeleteI think I will keep that one for the summer hiatus.
yeah
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!!!!!!! It is one of the few shows my hubby and I get a chance to sit and watch together these days:)
ReplyDeleteYAY for Grimm,Yay for NBC,that is one way to start climbing out of that dark hole they have been in.Lets hope we have more quality shows coming to NBC...

ReplyDeleteI was too way about if it would be too simmilar to SPN, but it really isn't!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear as I've been enjoying the show thus far, but it could use some tightening up but it's a decent show.
ReplyDeleteWHOOO! :D

fingers crossed for Awake, the best new show on tv
ReplyDeleteI hope Awake gets renewal. I thought it was walking dead from its inception, no matter how good it turned out to be - and it is great!

Every week Fringe and Grimm aired at the same time, the numbers proved that they did not cannibalize each other's audiences.
ReplyDeleteGrimm succeeded on it's own, get over it.
I am pleasantly surprised that this show got renewed. I like it so far so I guess it deserves a second season.
ReplyDeleteGrimm had a nice uptick in ratings when Fringe and Supernatural were both on repeats. How could those audiences not overlap?
ReplyDeleteGood to hear, I really enjoy the show.
ReplyDeletethat's great news, it's def. one of the good shows made this season..

Unsurprising if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteIt performs solidly for NBC on Fridays and to be fair it's a very decent show. Not appointment TV but certainly enjoyable.

First of the shows I watch is getting picked up. That's good news indeed.

ReplyDeleteNo surprise, the show is doing really well for Friday night for NBC.
ReplyDeleteIt's coming along... he just has to get in touch with his inner self... wait a few episodes and you might get what I mean
