Glee - Whitney Houston Tribute In The Works

Mar 9, 2012

Glee is currently shooting a tribute episode to Whitney Houston that will include eight songs from the late great musical icon, sources confirm to us exclusively.

Unlike the previous tribute last month (Amber Riley performed "I Will Always Love You" and producers added in a dedication card), this Whitney episode was planned after Houston's death, and according to a reliable show source, will "not be a typical tribute"...

"It's using Whitney's music as a way to say goodbye," the source reveals. "A way to respectfully say thank you for her music."

I'm told that unlike the show's Madonna and Michael Jackson episodes, the Whitney tribute is more of a "character piece" that focuses on Glee's graduating seniors having a real hard time letting go.

Earlier today, Lea Michele herself tweeted: "Starting a new episode today. A very special tribute to one of the worlds most amazing singers. Very excited about this one."

As are we! In fact, this Whitney episode has all the makings of one of the series' most emotionally gripping to date. So count us in. (With a ginormous crate of Kleenex on stand by, just in case!)

Glee's next new episode airs April 10 on Fox. No date has been set yet for the Whitney tribute.

  1. This is just vile.  Like I can't.  Not even a little bit.  Using this woman's death to make money is just gross. The measures this bald-headed troll will go to make money is just... so effing greedy.  Making money of the dead, de-gaying characters (Sam Evans) because Darren Cri$$'s single sold well.  Like if this weren't a show that's platform was "we care!!!,"it'd be one thing but it is.  I hope people boycott this episode because THIS IS NOT ABOUT HONORING HER, IT'S ABOUT MAKING MONEY OFF OF HER DEATH.

  2. it makes since to do a Whitney tribute for a show like Glee, but considering it just happened i just hope its done properly and respectfully.
It wasn't in the original plans of this season I worry that it will be rushed and wont flow w/ the tone of this season.  But i will keep an open mind.

Will this episode be in spite of another episode or is this an extra bonus we get this season?

  3. As long as they make a hefty paycheck, they don't care about quality.  They'll put out crap, but make millions on iTunes and get record ratings.  And that's all they care about.

  4. I swear someone said they weren't going to do as many tribute episodes this season to "focus more one the main stories". Does anyone know what the hell Ryan Murphy is doing? Does Ryan Murphy even know what Ryan Murphy is doing?

  5. very very true, exploitation at its finest. W/ that said i want to hope against hope that some sort of dignity will be implemented in this episode.
I understand the business of capitalizing on a situation but only if its done properly
I look at the MJ tribute which didnt come out till this season 2 yrs removed from his death.

Now iam wondering y r they rushing to this tribute? damn it lol u got me thinking lol

  6. This is a very nice way and respectfull way of saying goodbye to Whitney so even though I would have liked to have seen more of the Original cast as the season winds down but this could be good for one of the final episodes.

  7. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet.. I'm sure they'll do their best to be respectful, but I think that they could have left it with Mercedes' version of "I Will Always Love You".  It was beautifully sung, though I hated the way that they used it in the plot.

  9. this is shit. sorry but every time glee does one of these they promise it'll be different and unique and germane to the story but they all turn into the same steaming pile of shit as usual. anyone recall the christmas episode and what a treat that was? pay respects to a musical legend by all means but dont use her recent passing as an excuse to concoct an hour long whitney housten music video that serves no purpose to the storyline of the show

  10. not to mention amber's performance in the last episode and how it wasn't planned. the timing and coincidence alone made it into a near perfect tribute to recent events. now you wanna degrade the meaning of that with an hour long special?

  11. "that will include eight songs from the late great musical icon"
whatever happened to less songs per episode in season 3? XD
