    Something I just now recognized when John said it, the father and son theme is a J. J. favorite (as in, Lost).

    it could be one of two things 1. his father sucks and he just needs to be a little better than his father to succeed, or 2. his father was awesome and now he has to live up to his fathers expectations, and if he becomes a better man than his father then he is truly a better human being.
