Thanks to darq for the heads up.

When Universal Pictures said no to making three feature films and two limited-run TV series from Stephen King’s mammoth post-apocalyptic Western The Dark Tower, the partners in the film all pledged they were going to find a way to get a movie made. Well, I hear that Warner Bros is now very close to a deal that will give Ron Howard the chance to direct at least the first feature, potentially with Javier Bardem starring as gunslinger Roland Deschain. And Akiva Goldsman (who wrote the script) is producing with Brian Grazer and the author.

  1. Javier Bardem??? Idon't think so. Even the best choice would be Clint Eastwood (twenty years ago), I think Viggo Mortensen would be a better Roland... dunno.

  2. I'd like to see it finally put to rest. I don't believe any adaptation can do it justice.

  3. So does this go against the alleged reports that HBO was going to adapt the TV series part of it?

Even though the project is massive given King's extent of the Dark Tower, I still would like to see an attempt. We finally have cable networks in which we wouldn't have to severely water the work down. It could be something special.

  6.  Just posted a comment about that.
I would sacrifice my favorite teaddy-bear to the gods of tv if that could help HBO being part of the project.
Think about games of throne adaptation and just imagine what they could do with the dark tower!

  7. Are they still doing the same release strategy though? With three or four movies, and a season on TV in between each movie?

I was hoping HBO would pick up Preacher and adapt that...

  8. It really needs to be more than 3 movies, in fact I'd rather it was just a TV series on HBO. I adore these books, I hope one day they get the treatment they deserve
