Angela Bassett and Julian McMahon cast in Fox spy pilot

Angela Bassett and Julian McMahon are in final negotiations to star in FOX's untitled Karyn Usher drama pilot.
This pilot is the most buzzed about of the five drama pilots at FOX currently (that could change once the pilots are actually filmed of course) written by Usher and directed by Brett Ratner, the project centers on Jane Forsythe (Saxon Sharbino), the orphaned 14-year-old daughter of a CIA operative who encounters a mysterious rogue agent (McMahon) who serves as her surrogate father and professional mentor in the spy world. Bassett will play the calculating and political director of the CIA who takes Jane under her wing.

    This spy pilot is starting too look a lot more interesting than the other FOX spy pilot from Josh Friedman.

    I'm kinda hesitant about a 14 year old spy, it kinda feels a bit too much Nickelodeon for my taste. But I love Julian McMahon. I'm hoping this show is a lot more action/edgier than "14 year old girl plays at being a spy".

    Does the Kevin Williamson project have a script yet? If not I can definitely see this one as having the most potential right now. Fox may just have 2 new shows for me to watch next season.

    Sidney wasn't an orphan though, she was working for the bad guys/then CIA and yeah, she was over 18. Since there's no way the CIA will hire someone who is 14, I think this girl will be rogue for a while. I just have a huge problem with her being 14. I think 16 would have been a better age...

    This actually sounds really good and love both Angela and Julian. But the most important casting to get right is probably the 14 year old girl whom I'm unfamiliar with. Need a good spy drama (unfortunately Nikita doesn't look like it will survive).

    We hadn't heard any news for this pilot in a while, so I was starting to wonder if it was still a go or not.
    But what great news did we get!? I adore them both so even though this pilot was that was on my radar since it was announced, it actually got bumped up in my list... (I still believe though that the consept won't really work on FOX... sounds a bit too tweeny for them)

    If they focus on  her tragic past and the realities of a 14 year in the spy world, over making it fluffy, it would avoid being "tweeny". Of course, it's written by Usher and directed by Ratner so I really don't know what the tone will be. If Rush Hour, they should just ship it straight to ABC Family or CW instead.
