American Horror Story - Season 2 - Spoilers about Jessica Lange's role

But she won’t reprise her memorable role in the new season, which resumes production in late July for a mid-October return to FX. She’ll play someone entirely new, promises Murphy.

“We have designed the second season of American Horror Story completely around her character,” Murphy told EW exclusively. “Last year Jessica came in with Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott. This will really be the Jessica Lange show so I’m very excited about it. We are designing this amazing new opposite of the Constance character for her. She and I have spoken about different things. She has a lot of ideas, and has a lot of input into her character. She told me some things she has always wanted to play as an actress. She’s a great collaborator and a great friend.”

“I really sweated this negotiation,” continues Murphy, “so I’m glad she is firmly on board.”

Lange is not the only actor from season 1 who will return for a second year. Murphy said he signed three more, but won’t reveal their identities until Friday when he and the AHS cast members participate in the annual PaleyFest in Beverly Hills. (

AHS season 2 will take place on the East Coast and will involve a horror institution. Regrettably, that’s all we can get from Murphy.

  1. This sounds awesome! And I can't wait for Paley to find out the others returning.

    And yay, horror institution!

  2. As awesome news as this is, I'm afraid it may be a bit disorienting at first, especially for people who don't realize AHS is an anthology show.

After hearing that some actors from Season 1 would return, I expected their parts to be relatively minor in comparison the newcomers to the series.

  3. Friday as in tomorrow?
But yes for Lange, the best thing about season 1 so I'm excited

  4. Boo. The anthology thing I didn't really mind;  but if they're bringing back Jessica it should be as Constance. They can't leave the whole Antichrist-grandson thing unresolved.

  5. "AHS season 2 will take place on the East Coast and will involve a horror institution"

On the East Coast we can find the Waverly Hills' Sanatorium in Louisville
    (Kentucky) as an horror institution.

It could be a great place.

Yess, please do. Coz Murphy sucked at characterization for his main characters, just saying. So excited for the new season!!!!

  7. I honestly don't mind that season 2 is going to be a whole new show with completely new characters and a new story. I can't see how they could ahve done a second season based on the story from season 1 and not have it turn into rather dull same-old story.   I am looking forward to seeing where they take tings in seaosn 2 and hopefully to another awesome self contained 12 episode story.
