"In previous seasons, Matt may have felt less essential to the show, but Zach says that these days, he feels more integral to the series and he's not necessarily looking for Matt to get in on the vampire action."
Sorry, but Matt is still a non-essential, expendable character. I'm actually surprised he made it this far.
"For Caroline, like with Elena, Matt is a tie to who she was and who she wants to remain, when she was a human. Matt's a constant reminder to all these people of who they really are."
THIS. And disagree, he's one of the few characters who aren't over the top, not to mention that he's a reminder that there are sane and normal people living in that town. Matt ftw.
They can speak eloquently about Matt's place in the show all they want, but if they want him to be an integral character they need to write him like an integral character, which they most certainly do not.
I really want to disagree with you but, with the exception of the return of his sister, none of Matt's scenes have driven the story forward. They've all be character moments...for the major characters. Which, in one sense is essential but...when it comes to the big stories...not so much
" will keep showing us that part of Matt that, screentime be damned, is one of the fundamentally most important characters in the show, in what he represents, in that he is that guy who is just trying to get through life, and maybe get out of this town one day, and maybe have a normal life" Julie Plec
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

I can't believe they haven't killed off Matt yet.. honestly.. he's more useless than Chace Crawford on Gossip Girl, and not as pretty.
ReplyDeleteMatt should just give in and ask Caroline to turn him that might make he important again
