The competition continues today with the Semi Finals, where we will continue to find out which Best Picture Oscar nominee STV fans think is the greatest since the year 2000. We have eight polls for you to choose your favourite film from, and the winner will progress into the next round and still stand a chance of winning the overall competition.

I'm rooting for a LOTR 1 vs. Inception final... but I'd be happy with a LOTR 3 vs. Up final, so let's see what happens!

LotR3 and Inception. I would love if Inception won the whole thing, but losing to LotR3, in my opinion the best of the trilogy, would be fine too.

I actually forgot it was John Noble who played Denethor when I've started watching Fringe in S1, I really hated him (Denethor, not John) in LOTR3, but I love Walter now, that's how good John is.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny; when I watched the Fringe pilot in September 2008, the first time I saw John, I said "Hey, that's the guy from Lord Of The Rings!".
ReplyDeleteInception because when I got out of the theater I wanted to watch again :D. LOTR I watched them once a long time ago but don't really remember them so can't vote there...need to watch the movies again.

LOTR 3 and Inception \o/
ReplyDeleteYeah, when Fringe started I was like "OH great, it's that crazy suicidal son of a bitch" and about 2 episodes into Fringe I was like "Denethor who?"
ReplyDeleteUntil this moment I've had all 3 LOTR films on the same level because they're all perfect for what they were for (each part of the story), but I give the edge (by the world's smallest margin) to Fellowship of the Ring... It's probably because it's the only one that I've also read in the series all the way through, but I just adore the setup for the rest of the story... It had a tone of innocence and pure fantastical beauty... and the balrog scene in the Mines of Moria is one of my favorite scenes of anything, ever. The 3rd one (especially the extended version--OMG!!!!) is absolutely perfect to me as well, I even love the never-ending sequence of scenes at the end that make you wonder when it's actually going to end. (I remember watching it in theaters, thinking it was over, and then seeing another scene after and thinking YES, it's not over yet! I Don't EVER want it to end!") But, I will say that I will give Fellowship my vote this one time, because I just can't overstate how impeccable the first leg of the trilogy set up everything...

Inception, even if I really loved Up as well. Both are incredible films with unbelievably talented cast and crew working behind them!
Fellowship was the only one that stayed pretty close to the books. By the time they got to Return of the King they'd gone all wonky adding new stuff to try to make up for the problems they created deleting things from the book. So, as big and great as Return of the King was, I'm too loyal to the books and their excellent pacing and characters, and language (I never forgave the movie for cutting the "at the end of all things" moment with Samwise) to vote it the best of the trilogy.

ReplyDeleteMy god, Inception's slaughtering Up. Have no idea why Inception gets all the love it does. Probably my least favourite Nolan film. Up's overrated too but the beginning of that alone is far better than 90% of films imo,

ReplyDeleteI voted for Up mainly because I know of it, but actually know very little about Inception. I own the extended versions of all three LOTR movies. by far "The Return of the King" is the best. I would follow that with LOTR 1
ReplyDeleteYeah, he hated his younger son. HE almost killed him and did kill himself. He was good at it though.

ReplyDeleteAs a typical LOTR fan (the books), I read it through about eight times. Now I just follow the fellowship from book 1 through the end. I don't read Frodo, Sam, and Gollum after that. I have talked to a lot of fans and they do the same thing. lol
ReplyDeleteI did too. Maybe it's just in the extended versions. I do not think ROTK was that far off. What bothered in the movies was the removal of an elven prince who was searching for the nine and putting Elrond's daughter on a horse as a warrior and have her actually surprise Strider. Come on. He's half elven, and he lives in the wild. She lived with Elrond in his home. She was not a warrior. That bothered me.

ReplyDeleteInception is a complete mind trip. For me it's like the first Matrix, before they sucked, in that you spend half of the time figuring out what world you are in and the other half just letting it ride while thinking, "This is so cool." I loved it and I could count the number of movies I really enjoyed on one hand this year.
ReplyDeleteIt and Deathly Hallows are the only 2 movies I saw more than once this year. Inception was cool the first time and even better the second time when I could enjoy the story instead of figuring out the story as I went.
ReplyDeleteI watched DH part 1 twice but haven't gotten around to seeing part 2 again. I have such a long list of movies I want to see for the first time that it's hard to find time to re-watch movies =P
